but yeah basically this game used to work like fortnite seasons
when Rundown 2 came out, it replaced Rundown 1, Rundown 3 replaced Rundown 2 and so on, everytime a new rundown came the old one got eliminated, and each one had some new guns some new missions n stuff
and on Rundown 7, the devs decided to bring the old rundowns back, and they did it the ALT://Rundowns, the old rundowns but slightly changed and optimized
and with those they added the guns back and now all of em are permanent

I'm not sure neither Phoenix Point nor this game count for that. Both games hilariously seem to experience issues with correctly loading save states and variety of bugs happening as a result after loading.

I've played quite a few unity games and haven't really experienced many bugs like that
from what limited exposure I've had to the innards of unity, it seems like they started from a pretty decent foundation (entity-component-system etc)

but it seems like some of the features have pretty basic implementations, and you see documentation for more elaborate implementations that have been abandoned (e.g. networking, they had a lockstep/rollback implementation in the works but it appears to be dead)

so maybe devs who work largely within the confines of the frameworks unity defines can be expected to put out games with some pretty basic limitations
whereas competent engineers can use what works and re-engineer stuff that doesn't
10cc appears to be founded by some really strong graphics guys, but it doesn't seem like their netcode chops are that great
so we get stunning game (for an indie dev) with poor, possibly out-of-the-box netplay
Netcode seems to be universally just something everyone struggles with
nah, there's a proud tradition of FPS netcode being done right
Pretty much all FromSoft games are heavily burdened by online features that barely work with variety of exploits

not to say it's easy, but for a dev whose game is online real-time multiplayer by default it should be bread-and-butter to get netcode into a good place
again there are issues in pvp shooters which are basically impossible to solve, you're eating a rollback
the flipside is a player getting shot while they're around a corner
with non-negligible ping you will always have some mix of both problems in a pvp shooter
but in pve, the game should know where enemies are pathing to well in advance and be able to apply prediction accordingly

Craig told me to tell you to try typing in LIST ZONE_??? (replacing ??? with a zone number, like the one you're currently in)
usually displayed on the terminal screen when you first interact with it. If not, just type in the "PING" command with no arguments, and it will give you some text with your current zone number
or you could search everywhere like a real gamer would
there's also a few environmental cues (signs, door numbers, etc.) that indicate your current zone

to me the sledgehammer should be a big alpha damage weapon, but difficult to use after the first swing

But yeah the design idea behind each of the melees was probably:
- Hammer -> the basic choice that's good at everything.
- Spear -> precision-based sidegrade to the hammer (can kill stuff further away, more potential single-hit damage if you can hit the weakpoint, but more punishing when swarmed/you fail to kill in one hit)
- Bat -> attempting to turn the pre-rework Autopistol into a melee weapon (less damage, apparently more stagger)
- Knife -> obligatory stealth-oriented high-risk high-reward weapon (at the cost of being rather crap outside of stealth)
Ultimately, I'd say that the problem is that the non-hammer melees don't do a very good job of filling the niches that they were clearly designed to fill - leading to the absence of drawbacks offered by the hammer making it the optimal choice.

it's odd to be that the hammer's chosen as the all-rounder, bat feels like it would fulfill that role better while a heavy-duty sledgehammer is more for giants

the spear's extended reach was probably intended for making giants easier (can hit the head from further away)
also, seeing as the hammers were already the melee weapons of GTFO prior to the change - it's like hammer = GTFO mario = obvious choice or something along those lines

It will stop extraction from spawning so you need to get out of it at some point

When all players are dead there is a clock that starts this can get you out of some loops so if you rezed someone when going down you will stay alive and get out of the loop
It is a death tick update
It also is the reason why you have the funny instant death screen
Because that clock is the clock that needs to tick up to like 20 for the level to be over
