It's not so much hitbox as very generous client-side hit registration. On their screen you were in a different spot and on their screen they got a legit hit so the server lets them have it

It's also part of how the long range bite stuff works

Nobody wants to solve mix packing there should be a mechanic to make it a hinderance rather than a boon. Not everyone wants to play unofficial servers for multitude of reasons. Can’t the community just accept that mix packing is lame and not do it?
