Phasmophobia's greatest weakness is what makes it it's strongest selling point.
If it was strictly a solo game, it could be incredibly compelling. Write a basic "Madlibs" style code generation to make a bullshit backstory about the ghost you're looking at, add a little more model variance and map (layouts can stay the same, but change up the furniture placements) and you could have a REALLY good horror game.

My last lengthy go I built some pretty cool mega structures and bridges connecting my large area with my various-purpose buildings and opened up some portals into an Eldritch realm and warped all of my stuff to work around basically being a pillaging planeswalker since the Eldritch realm had portals to all the others, including mod realms.
Would drag in dragons and other things to loose upon the dark plane to help keep the...inhabitants in check.

Minecraft is a game that needs a goal in mind when you get into it. "Kill the Ender Dragon" is too nebulous. Make a thing, go somewhere, do a weird bit.
My first 'Goal' any time I get to a server is to find the 4 points layout of a Chunk and dig it to bedrock. All the materials found in that single chunk will fuel my next endeavor - build a 'Monstrosity'. Through ground to skybox, usually out of stone - smooth, cobble, and bricked.

To expand on this, a fun thing you can do with you friends is go to a public server and complete the following;
Dig out a vast capacity. 75-100 blocks on a side, from bedrock to just below the surface. Light it 'enough' for grass to grow by leaving glass at the surface - it'll produce enough light during the day, glowstone or torches every 8 paces by night. Fill it with jungle trees. Fill it with bushes. Build a cottage. Replace the outer edges (the 'walls') with cobblestone bricks. Add accented pieces.
Now never tell anyone you did that and go somewhere else and wait for someone to be confused.
