your rhetoric is fundamentally fallacious youre using debunked reasoning. smithsonian literally states they have bacteria which has also been debunked long ago. but the most relevant thing here is I and my sources present actual reasoning while smithsonian appeals to mr fry's study which is what Im debunking your reaoning is basically circular.

I wasn’t trying to sound annoyed or anything, but have fun, lots of people go into the game just wanting to play a cowboy and then come out of the game with a completely different view. The most important thing is that you enjoy it

Not in a exact order, but Horizon series, Armored core, Batman Arkham series, little nightmares series, and Ghost of Tsushima

First Animal species of the day (280) :
Mainland Clouded leopard

#

The clouded leopard (Neofelis nebulosa), also called mainland clouded leopard, is a wild cat inhabiting dense forests from the foothills of the Himalayas through Northeast India and Bhutan to mainland Southeast Asia into South China. It was first described in 1821 on the basis of a skin of an individual from China. The clouded leopard has large dusky-grey blotches and irregular spots and stripes reminiscent of clouds. Its head-and-body length ranges from 68.6 to 108 cm (27.0 to 42.5 in) with a 61 to 91 cm (24 to 36 in) long tail. It uses its tail for balancing when moving in trees and is able to climb down vertical tree trunks head first. It rests in trees during the day and hunts by night on the forest floor.

#

The clouded leopard is the sister taxon to other pantherine cats, having genetically diverged 9.32 to 4.47 million years ago. Today, the clouded leopard is locally extinct in Singapore, Taiwan, and possibly also in Hainan Island and Vietnam. The wild population is believed to be in decline with fewer than 10,000 adults and no more than 1,000 in each subpopulation. It has therefore been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 2008. The population is threatened by large–scale deforestation and commercial poaching for the wildlife trade. Its body parts are offered for decoration and clothing, though it is legally protected in most range countries.
The clouded leopard has been kept in zoological gardens since the early 20th century. Captive breeding programs were initiated in the 1980s. In captivity, the clouded leopard has an average lifespan of 11 years.

#

The clouded leopard's fur is of a dark grey or ochreous ground-color, often largely obliterated by black and dark dusky-grey blotched pattern. There are black spots on the head, and the ears are black. Partly fused or broken-up stripes run from the corner of the eyes over the cheek, from the corner of the mouth to the neck, and along the nape to the shoulders. Elongated blotches continue down the spine and form a single median stripe on the loins. Two large blotches of dark dusky-grey hair on the side of the shoulders are each emphasized posteriorly by a dark stripe, which passes on to the foreleg and breaks up into irregular spots. The flanks are marked by dark dusky-grey irregular blotches bordered behind by long, oblique, irregularly curved or looped stripes. These blotches yielding the clouded pattern suggest the English name of the cat. The underparts and legs are spotted, and the tail is marked by large, irregular, paired spots. Its legs are short and stout, and paws broad. Females are slightly smaller than males

#

The clouded leopard occurs from the Himalayan foothills in Nepal, Bhutan and India to Myanmar, southeastern Bangladesh, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and to south of the Yangtze River in China. It is locally extinct in Singapore and Taiwan

#

The clouded leopard is a solitary cat. Early accounts depict it as a rare, secretive, arboreal, and nocturnal inhabitant of dense primary forest.[18]
It is one of the most talented climbers among the cats. Captive clouded leopards have been observed to climb down vertical tree trunks head first, and hang on to branches with their hind paws bent around branchings of tree limbs.[13] They are capable of supination and can hang down from branches only by bending their hind paws and their tail around them. They can jump up to 1.2 m (3 ft 11 in) high.[13] They use trees as daytime rest sites, but also spend time on the ground when hunting at night. Captive clouded leopards have been observed to scent mark by spraying urine and rubbing their heads on prominent objects.[19] Their vocalisations include a short high-pitched meow call, a loud crying call, both emitted when a cat is trying to locate another one over a long or short distance; they prusten and raise their muzzle when meeting each other in a friendly manner; when aggressive, they growl with a low-pitched sound and hiss with exposed teeth and wrinkled nose

#isle-discussion message

@weak spire (sorry about the ping, btw)

From everything I can tell, this is untrue. (Though I could be wrong and would love to be as having pet Caracals is icky. If you have more information, I'd love it)

From everything I've been able to find, that's a pet caracal named Pumba. What I'm mainly finding concerning (other than them owning a caracal) is how overweight it is and how often they provoke it while eating in their videos.

Once again, if I am wrong, I'm sorry, and if you know any more information about the video, I'd be interested in knowing it. :)

# winter marten https://discord.com/channels/401464048610312193/855527844670865438/1234991111018...

I think i got it confused with another caracal im ngl but if it makes you feel better this caracal wasnt illegally bought it seems to have been taken in as a baby from what ive seen, (i cant find any other social media besides the store page and youtube)
also in some of the videos ive seen the animal is friendly it just doesnt like cameras i think or the man in the video cause with the woman it cuddles up (still scary)
they also seem to live somewhere up near russia from the language they speak in some videos, so im unfamilar with the laws of exotic pets there, but it seems to have a good family and is probably happy where it is, also in russia MANY people own caracals its more of a house cat there, but u know what they do with animals in russia, if its furry its a pet.

TLDR, Its loved in its home and its a russian house cat, many people own them in russia

winter marten
weak spire
#

apparently many russian familys also own lynx cats

#

not to get confused with a sphinx

#

ive seen bears in russian livings rooms they can tame anything with enough alcohol

winter marten
weak spire
#

and from a news report medeledev had to rewrite a law that let people take bears into apartment buildings

weak spire
winter marten
#

Yeah their laws got better in 2019

weak spire
#

too many people started buying bears

#

so they had to change the law for it specifically

#

u can still own one u just need to be able to to house it

winter marten
weak spire
#

its not like in a movie where they throw it in the back of a truck and drive it across the border

winter marten
weak spire
#

the animals arent taken from the wild willy nilly they are being removed cause they are rapidly breeding, the regular problem with exotic pet trade is that it takes the native species and causes them to go extinct but these creatures are doing more than thriving and to stop them from being killed to maintain the enviroment they instead sell them to zoos and people who could own them like how in russia its legal same with lynxes

#

people also eat them in the areas they breed alot

#

even across the world in southern africa they are hunted as pests cause they pray on livestock so its not a far fetch to say they come from there too

#

just cause its part of an exotic pet trade doesnt make it a bad thing

#

they are doing them a favor of atleast not killing them and giving them a chance to go someplace else

#

dont blame the trade blame the owners who give these pets a bad life but in this case its the opposite

#

the caracal is happy

#

also the caracal is on the Least concern in terms of conservation status

silent cargo
winter marten
# weak spire also the caracal is on the Least concern in terms of conservation status

Caracals are at risk of being classified as endangered in parts of their range, specifically Asia and North Africa. It's very important to stress that the listing of an animal as LC by the IUCN is only a reflection of the species overall, not the full story of their ranges.

Before I actually talk about this, I want to clarify that they hiss a lot in general, which is a major part of their communication. The issue I had is related to when the caracal was being pet and its weight.

Caracals can weigh up to 40 pounds (20 - 40) and have an even stronger hunting instinct than a domestic cat with the muscle to do damage, which is evident when considering the overlap between caracal attacks and captive caracals. They also need suitable space for activities, which a house without modifications cannot provide. I assume this requirement isn't being met in the video due to the animal clearly being obese. Though that issue could be dietary.

The trade of caracals doesn't suddenly become healthy for their populations just because they are classified as least concern. It's a depleting factor, much like habitat fragmentation or poaching. I don't want to imply that they're declining in most of their range (central and southern Africa), but again, that doesn't mean none of their range is declining.

Caracals, servals, ocelots, and other wild cats simply aren't suitable as pets. The promotion of them as such, as with Pumba, is detrimental and irresponsible.

(Also, sorry, this took me five years to write. I'm dyslexic and was trying to fix my spelling, lol.)

#

Oh also I should mention they are doing was worse in Asia than they are in North Africa, should've mentioned that for clarification woops.

First Animal species of the day (281) :
Giant oarfish

#

The giant oarfish (Regalecus glesne) is a species of oarfish of the family Regalecidae. It is an oceanodromous species with a worldwide distribution, excluding polar regions. Other common names include Pacific oarfish, king of herrings, ribbonfish, and streamer fish

#

R. glesne is the world's longest ray-finned fish. Its shape is ribbon-like, narrow laterally, with a dorsal fin along its entire length, stubby pectoral fins, and long, oar-shaped pelvic fins, from which its common name is derived.[4] Its coloration is silver and blue with spots of dark pigmentation, and its fins are crimson.[5] Its physical characteristics and undulating mode of swimming have led to speculation that it might be the source of many "sea serpent" sightings

#

The giant oarfish has a worldwide distribution, having been found as far north as 72°N and as far south as 52°S, but is most commonly found in the tropics to middle latitudes.[8] It has been categorized as oceanodromous, following its primary food source.[9] It is thought to inhabit the sunlit epipelagic to dimly lit mesopelagic zones, ranging as deeply as 1,000 m (3,300 ft) below the surface

#

This species is the world's longest bony fish, reaching a record length of 17 m (56 ft).[11] It is commonly measured to 3 m (9.8 ft) in total length.[12]
Few R. glesne larvae have been identified and described in situ. These larvae exhibit an elongated body with rays extending from the occipital crest and a long pelvic fin.[13] Unlike the adult form of the species, the skin of the larvae is almost entirely transparent with intermittent spots of dark coloration along the organism's dorsum.[13] Additionally, the larvae possess a caudal fin with four fin rays, which is a trait not present in the adult form of the species.[13] Observations of larvae specimen of Regalecus glesne captured off the Island coast of Palagruža analyzed the size of these specimens. The larvae specimen was measured to be 103.4 mm with a body height of around 7 mm.

#

Much of what is known about the juvenile life cycle of R. glesne comes from artificial insemination work done in a laboratory setting.[18] This work was performed in 2020 and was the first time that the progression from fertilized eggs to larvae was observed. Post-fertilization, the eggs took 18 days to hatch into larvae. They noted that the larvae appeared similar to other lampridiform larvae, facing downward with pectoral fins. The larvae then died four days later, so this study spanned only the early life cycle of the species

#

Little is known about oarfish behavior. It has been observed swimming by means of its dorsal fin, and also swimming in a vertical position.[10] In 2010, scientists filmed a giant oarfish in the Gulf of Mexico swimming in the mesopelagic layer, the first footage of a reliably identified R. glesne in its natural setting. The footage was caught during a survey, using an ROV in the vicinity of Thunder Horse PDQ, and shows the fish swimming in a columnar orientation, tail downward.

First Animal species of the day (282) :
Japanese spider crab

#

The Japanese spider crab (Macrocheira kaempferi) is a species of marine crab and is the biggest one that lives in the waters around Japan. It has the largest known leg-span of any arthropod around 3.7 meters. The Japanese name for this species is taka-ashi-gani, (Japanese: たかあしがに), literally translating to “tall legs crab”. It goes through three main larval stages along with a prezoeal stage to grow to its great size

#

The Japanese spider crab has the greatest leg span of any known arthropod, reaching up to 3.7 m (12.1 ft) from claw to claw.[6] The body may grow to 40 cm (16 in) in carapace width and the whole crab can weigh up to 19 kg (42 lb)[7]—second in mass only to the American lobster among all living arthropod species. The males have the longer chelipeds;[4] females have much shorter chelipeds, which are shorter than the following pair of legs.[3]
Apart from its outstanding size, the Japanese spider crab differs from other crabs in a number of ways. The first pleopods of males are unusually twisted, and the larvae appear primitive.[1] The crab is orange with white spots along the legs.[8] It is reported to have a gentle disposition despite its ferocious appearance.[8] The Japanese Spider Crab also has a unique molting behavior that occurs for about 100 minutes, in which the crab loses its mobility and starts molting its carapace rear and ends with molting its walking legs

#

The Japanese Spider Crab has an armored exoskeleton that helps protect it from larger predators such as octopodes, but also uses camouflage. The crab's bumpy carapace blends into the rocky ocean floor. To further the deception, a spider crab adorns its shell with sponges and other animals

#

Japanese spider crabs are mostly found off the southern coasts of the Japanese island of Honshū, from Tokyo Bay to Kagoshima Prefecture. Outlying populations have been found in Iwate Prefecture and off Su-ao in Taiwan.[3] Adults are found at depths between 50 and 600 m (160 and 1,970 ft).[3] They like to inhabit vents and holes in the deeper parts of the ocean.[12] The temperature preference of adults is unknown, but the species is regular at a depth of 300 metres (980 ft) in Suruga Bay, where the water generally is about 10 °C (50 °F).[13] Based on results from public aquaria, Japanese spider crabs tolerate temperatures between 6 and 16 °C (43 and 61 °F), but are typically maintained at 10–13 °C (50–55 °F)

#

Female crabs carry the fertilized eggs attached to their abdominal appendages until they hatch into tiny planktonic larvae.[12] They can lay up to 1.5 million eggs per season, and these eggs hatch in 10 days on average.[5] Once hatched, these larvae undergo four stages of development before they mature into adulthood

First Animal species of the day (283) :
Rhinoceros hornbill

#

The rhinoceros hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros) is a large species of forest hornbill (Bucerotidae). In captivity it can live for up to 35 years. It is found in lowland and montane, tropical and subtropical climates and in mountain rain forests up to 1,400 metres in Borneo, Sumatra, Java, the Malay Peninsula, Singapore, and southern Thailand.

#

The rhinoceros hornbill is the state bird of the Malaysian state of Sarawak and the country's national bird.[3] Some Dayak people, especially the Ibanic groups, believe it to be the chief of worldly birds or the supreme worldly bird, and its statue is used to welcome the god of the augural birds, Sengalang Burong, to the feasts and celebrations of humankind. Contrary to some misunderstandings, the rhinoceros hornbill does not represent their war god, who is represented in this world by the brahminy kite.[4][5] It is featured on the reverse of the 5 Malaysian ringgit bill.

#

modest isle
#

The rhinoceros hornbill was formally described by the Swedish naturalist Carl Linnaeus in 1758 in the tenth edition of his Systema Naturae. He placed it with the great hornbill in the genus Buceros and coined the binomial name Buceros rhinoceros. Linnaeus specified the location as China.[6] The genus name is from Latin becerus meaning "horned like an ox" which in turn is from the Ancient Greek boukerōs which combines bous meaning "ox" with kerōs meaning "horn". The specific rhinoceros is Latin for "rhinoceros"

#

The rhinoceros hornbill is a large arboreal hornbill, 80 to 90 cm (31–35 in) long. The weight varies by sex, with males weighing around 2,465 to 2,960 g (87.0–104.4 oz) and the females 2,040 to 2,330 g (72–82 oz). The plumage is predominantly black, with white legs and vent and a white tail with a black band. The huge bill and casque are orange and red, the colour coming from preen oil rubbed on from the preen gland above the tail. The eyes of the male are red with black rims, and white with red rims in the female

#

The diet of the rhinoceros hornbill is dominated by fruit, but it will take any insect, small reptile, rodent, and smaller birds that it can catch

First Animal species of the day (284) :
Koala

#

The koala (Phascolarctos cinereus), sometimes called the koala bear, is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to Australia. It is the only extant representative of the family Phascolarctidae and its closest living relatives are the wombats. The koala is found in coastal areas of the mainland's eastern and southern regions, inhabiting Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. It is easily recognisable by its stout, tailless body and large head with round, fluffy ears and large, dark nose. The koala has a body length of 60–85 cm (24–33 in) and weighs 4–15 kg (9–33 lb). Fur colour ranges from silver grey to chocolate brown. Koalas from the northern populations are typically smaller and lighter in colour than their counterparts further south. These populations possibly are separate subspecies, but this is disputed.

digital sleet
#

I’d eat that animal

modest isle
#

Koalas typically inhabit open Eucalyptus woodland, as the leaves of these trees make up most of their diet. This eucalypt diet has low nutritional and caloric content and contains toxic compounds that deter most other mammals from feeding on it. Koalas are largely sedentary and sleep up to twenty hours a day. They are asocial animals, and bonding exists only between mothers and dependent offspring. Adult males communicate with loud bellows that intimidate rivals and attract mates. Males mark their presence with secretions from scent glands located on their chests. Being marsupials, koalas give birth to underdeveloped young that crawl into their mothers' pouches, where they stay for the first six to seven months of their lives. These young koalas, known as joeys, are fully weaned around a year old. Koalas have few natural predators and parasites, but are threatened by various pathogens, such as Chlamydiaceae bacteria and koala retrovirus.

modest isle
#

The koala is a robust animal with a large head and vestigial or non-existent tail.[9]: 1 [28] It has a body length of 60–85 cm (24–33 in) and a weight of 4–15 kg (9–33 lb),[28] making it among the largest arboreal marsupials.[29] Koalas from Victoria are twice as heavy as those from Queensland.[21]: 7  The species is sexually dimorphic, with males 50% larger than females. Males are further distinguished from females by their more curved noses[29] and the presence of chest glands, which are visible as bald patches.[21]: 55  The female's pouch opening is secured by a sphincter which holds the young in

#

The koala's geographic range covers roughly 1,000,000 km2 (390,000 sq mi), and 30 ecoregions.[39] It ranges throughout mainland eastern and southeastern Australia, including the states of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. The koala was also introduced to several nearby islands.[1] The population on Magnetic Island represents the northern limit of its range.[39]
Fossil evidence shows that the koala's range stretched as far west as southwestern Western Australia during the late Pleistocene. They were likely driven to extinction in these areas by environmental changes and hunting by Indigenous Australians.[21]: 12–13  Koalas were introduced to Western Australia at Yanchep in 2022.[40] Koalas can be found in both tropical and temperate habitats ranging from dense woodlands to more spaced-out forests.[29] In semi-arid climates, they prefer riparian habitats, where nearby streams and creeks provide refuge during times of drought and extreme heat

#

Koalas are asocial animals and spend just 15 minutes a day on social behaviours. Where there are more koalas and fewer trees, home ranges are smaller and more clumped while the reverse is true for areas with fewer animals and more trees.[9]: 98  Koala society appears to consist of "residents" and "transients", the former being mostly adult females and the latter males. Resident males appear to be territorial and dominant.[46] The territories of dominant males are found near breeding females, while younger males must wait until they reach full size to challenge for breeding rights.[2]: 191  Adult males occasionally venture outside their home ranges; when they do so, dominant ones retain their status.[9]: 99  As a male climbs a new tree, he rubs his chest against it and sometimes dribbles urine. This scent-marking behaviour probably serves as communication, and individuals are known to sniff the bottom of a newly found tree.[21]: 54–56 [47] Chest gland secretions are complex chemical mixtures — about 40 compounds were identified in one analysis — that vary in composition and concentration with the season and the age of the individual.

Second Animal species of the day (285) :
King cobra

#

The king cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) is a venomous snake endemic to Asia. The sole member of the genus Ophiophagus, it is not taxonomically a true cobra, despite its common name and some resemblance. With an average length of 3.18 to 4 m (10.4 to 13.1 ft) and a record length of 5.85 m (19.2 ft),[2] it is the world's longest venomous snake. The species has diversified colouration across habitats, from black with white stripes to unbroken brownish grey. The king cobra is widely distributed albeit not commonly seen, with a range spanning from the Indian Subcontinent through Southeastern Asia to Southern China. It preys chiefly on other snakes, including those of its own kind. This is the only ophidian that constructs an above-ground nest for its eggs, which are purposefully and meticulously gathered and protected by the female throughout the incubation period.

#

The threat display of this elapid includes spreading its neck-flap, raising its head upright, making eye contact, puffing, hissing and occasionally charging. Given the size of the snake, it is capable of striking at a considerable range and height, sometimes sustaining a bite. Envenomation from this species is medically significant and may result in a rapid fatality unless antivenom is administered in time. Despite the species' fearsome reputation, aggression toward humans usually only arises from an individual inadvertently exposing itself or being cornered.

#

The king cobra's skin is olive green with black and white bands on the trunk that converge to the head. The head is covered by 15 drab coloured and black edged shields. The muzzle is rounded, and the tongue black. It has two fangs and 3–5 maxillar teeth in the upper jaw, and two rows of teeth in the lower jaw. The nostrils are between two shields. The large eyes have a golden iris and round pupils. Its hood is oval shaped and covered with olive green smooth scales and two black spots between the two lowest scales. Its cylindrical tail is yellowish green above and marked with black.[4] It has a pair of large occipital scales on top of the head, 17 to 19 rows of smooth oblique scales on the neck, and 15 rows on the body. Juveniles are black with chevron shaped white, yellow or buff bars that point towards the head.[16] Adult king cobras are 3.18 to 4 m (10.4 to 13.1 ft) long. The longest known individual measured 5.85 m (19.2 ft).[2][17] Ventral scales are uniformly oval shaped. Dorsal scales are placed in an oblique arrangement

#

The king cobra is sexually dimorphic, with males being larger and paler in particular during the breeding season. Males captured in Kerala measured up to 3.75 m (12.3 ft) and weighed up to 10 kg (22 lb). Females captured had a maximum length of 2.75 m (9 ft 0 in) and a weight of 5 kg (11 lb).[19] The largest known king cobra was 5.59 m (18 ft 4 in) long and captured in Thailand.[20] It differs from other cobra species by size and hood. It is larger, has a narrower and longer stripe on the neck

#

The king cobra has a wide distribution in South and Southeast Asia. It occurs up to an elevation of 2,000 m (6,600 ft) from the Terai in India and southern Nepal to the Brahmaputra River basin in Bhutan and northeast India, Bangladesh and to Myanmar, southern China, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines

#

Venom of the king cobra, produced by the postorbital venom glands, consists primarily of three-finger toxins (3FTx) and snake venom metalloproteinases (SVMPs).
