Hi, can I ask a question? I'm new and since now i did several runs with Deino, I have been in swamps, rivers, lakes and into the sea and I never ever saw a single fish or bullfrog. I can forage only on corpses but if there are not enough players on sefver it is very difficult to found some. Is it normal? i know food won't be everywhere but is it really THAT rare?

Dilo is a great beginner dino. It gets fast, fast, it grows fast, and the venom mechanics are cool ( you bite them until they glow purple when you sniff then you click rmb to do a "laugh" then on their screen it will summon clones of you that do damage, the bites are boosted at night its really fun but make sure you get a pack cause dilo is a glass cannon )

You need to visit 2 migration zones and 4 patrol zones in your life to get prime elder, doesnt have to be active

You can also smell the sanctuary on your sniff radar its like 2 curly trees

As a carnivore you kind of only want to go there to try and hunt other small animals

Back in 2021, the developers teased a new dinosaur planned for a future update: Deinocheirus. The tease happened on Twitter through a short tweet, where they also shared what looked like a handmade pencil-style concept sketch attached to an image, clearly hinting that the creature was already in development. Since then, however, it feels like almost no information or progress has been shared about it.

I really hope this does not end up being another forgotten dinosaur tease that never actually makes it into the game. At the very least, I hope the original concept evolved or transformed into something else behind the scenes that the community simply has not seen yet. The game has so many exciting ideas, but some of these long periods of silence around teased content can be a little disappointing.

i,e, most animals you'll see will look vaugely default looking... if theyre not using the current skin system bug that lets you get every color under the sun

Thing is dinosaurs were likely more colourful than mammals. Both birds and reptiles display a lot of colours which mammals don't. And likewise they had more types of colour receptor than humans (let alone other mammals), so they could pick up on these colours.

colors tend to dull the larger animals get, crocodilians for example are generally pretty bland (outside of certain exceptions) as are most large bodied ground birds
trying to use a realism angle with things like tropical songbirds and colorful lizards has stable footing on things like, for example, hypsi and herrera, but loses water the larger animals you are trying to justify using those modern examples

you can absolutely have themes that give you access to highly contrasting colors, even just seen here they dont share a range of saturation or brightness (theme 2 is signficantly more saturated and brighter than the default theme for example)
