I don't know what the 'chance' value is, it may be a bug. But when you only get 4 done its very inconsistent.

I go on servers that display how many you've done to be prime eligible and when 4/10 are done you are eligible but it's a 50/50.

When you get an extra thing it usually will give you prime.

'worked harder' well the problem is this game is very luck dependant, you may get into a fight where you can't travel to complete all the tasks, get stuck somewhere for a while, etc. the system you propose is heavily luck reliant. i think elders should be slower than adults also, even if just a little bit

well right now you can try to get prime, and if you fail youll be valued as much as someone who afk grew in a bush being fed by a clan the whole time, or someone who was just walked and spoonfed across all of gateway nested in by their huge clan gets prime with no sweat

in my system, you get as much as you work for, its fairer, adds variety to the environment, and gives immersion in seeing individuals of all different healths and sizes

Imagine a herd of maias, you clearly see the different varieties in the strengths and vitalities of all different individuals, carnivores know who to prioritize in a fight to pick off, nothing changes at all really

Yeah The best chance is the main lake. You might get a juvenile that makes a stop before the sanctuary, but you're also more likely to starve waiting there.
You might be able to grab a couple of juvie deinos, but I've only ever spawned in the swamp on the hordetest, so I can't say if Water Access is even a spawn location for them any more.

With my proposal youll clearly see the differences in a person's wisdom of the game, who knew the best routes, who had the best techniques, who survived encounters the best, who knew how to manage the best diet, so many factors that bring life into all the different ways you could find different people

Going to X amount of arbitrary zones is silly because it doesn’t even have to be ones related to you. I’m not really doing anything there other than “I want Prime”. Same for carnivores in sanctuaries (hopefully that changes with sanc Ai hinted in devblog)

The quests and elder checklists do not test your survival skills in the slightest which is not even to go down the rabbit hole of how bad it is that they are hidden from the player.

You would be rewarding clans, and that would be pretty much all it would achieve, varied results of elders are a good concept, but within the current system it would not work, at all.

Okay, if we rework the system in a way that discourages clan behavior, you would still be left with a mechanic that is only really rewarding players with meta or datamined knowledge, it not a learnable mechanic, and it is not a mechanic that tests the player at all. It is a series of binary yes/no checks, that you either accomplish accidentally, or intentionally using knowledge gained from outside sources.

The elder system cannot be a reflection of the player's survival abilities because there are no ways to test the players survival abilities with the game's current mechanics. like I said, having varied outcomes is nice, but only if the game is capable of testing the player. Survival skill means a lot of things, but by no means are you being tested with the current game.

Not necessarily, just depends on what type of experience the game wants to promote.
But either way the mechanic won't promote anything... because the game doesn't tell the player what it wants to do. They could make a potential elder requirement to kill 20 players, and it would not have any effect on the average player's mindset, because they would be unaware of it.

Again, only players with meta knowledge can really take advantage of such a system, and there really isn't anything to change that unless they change how the system works.

Hiding how core mechanics work does not in any way benefit the overall experience. Committing harder to hiding the elder requirements from the player, obscuring it in the game files, and everything else, would not improve the game.

You would be able to accomplish a similar thing by ruining all information availability for the diets system, it would have a similar effect.

The easiest way to do that would be to actually reveal how the game works to the player. Datamining is not done for fun, it's done because the game utterly refuses to be accessible, it refuses to tell the player what to do, so the players dig through the game to find out. If the game actually told the player what it wanted the player to do, there would be zero need, and therefore zero advantage, to datamining.

Not a complete list but some general things I think would make it feel better is

1: grouping with players & growing with them
2: going to the sanctuary (which with sanc ai will give carnivores an actual reason
3: getting perfect diet, and continuing to maintain it, you should never want to neglect a diet
4: repeatedly letting yourself get into starving, malnourished or dehydrated states
5: never getting stuff like glass bones (or any future variations for other statuses)
6: herbivores following their MZ’s and wanting to grow/gain nutrition within them. You shouldn’t be wandering the map to places that don’t involve you. MZ’s & PZ’s need to really be refined
7: carnivores patrolling zones for herbivores
8: healing wounds
