This screenshot is still throwing me big time. Because... it looks pretty solid overall.

It perplexes me.
Because, this build has more (better) fog, better view distance, its actually reflecting the clouds, and the areas not in reflection dont look horrid. The body doesnt have the jarring black shadows on it, and the colors arent completely washed out, that, and its hard to get a good look at the shadows, and the grass color looks a tad nicer.

Honestly I think most of this can be attributed to the weather, mainly just the lower intensity lighting creating better colors, and some changes to the clouds and fog that look really nice.

Anyways, yeah, it might be a little better but I think that just came with the generally better atmospherics. The intensity of the sun still seems almost identical, and at its worst the lighting still looks just as blown out as it does now.

As stated, the screenshot Xeno posted captures it well. Note the sky looks completely white, all the otherwise saturated greens are dulled, even the shadows have a strange glow to them, and it just looks too intense.

Some screenshots look really solid but I think if they decreased the intensity of the sun with clear skies, and brought in more perpetual fog. It would look much better overall.

Yeah I know thats what the camera effect is called but in UE5 its split into two effects. Auto exposure and Eye adaptation. Eye adaptation tried to emulate the effect of walking from a dark area into a light area.

Its not very good at it, but it does try.

The game shouldnt need to rely on things like lumen or nanite to look good, the game looked great back in previous updates without those features... and I think most of that game down to style and presentation.

Even if the vibe it achieved wasn't the best for the game, versions like Updates 3 and 4 still had a noticeable vibe and atmosphere. As it stands the lighting evokes no such feelings from me.

I dont believe its nostalgia either, even taking a new player who had never played Update 4 back in the day to those old versions quickly observed a massive difference in impression.

It might not need a change in direction, but I think that is something the game would massively benefit from.

It doesnt really need upgrades to fidelity beyond making what we have actually functional and non disruptive though.

Jedi Survivor falls short of realism in a lot of ways but it more than makes up for it with a beautiful art style. I am never taken out of the game even though its not fully realistic, because of how its portrayed.

You can have an art style within realism, the two are not mutually exclusive.

I only take issue when one tries to achieve realism without an art style to define it. Because then, all of its shortcomings become massive faults.

Okay question, I personally ran into three kinds of mix packers and I found that I was actually okay with one of them. Omivores are kind of in this weird place where they can coexist quite nicely with carnivores and herbivores. I dont like herbivores and carnivores working together because the immersion and balance are ruined imo but what do people think about omnivores being diplomatic and working with either side?

The thing is that omnivores can harvest food that only omivores and carnivores can eat, so it would make sense to not kill them as carnivores but work with them to have that trickle of food otherwise unobtainable. Its not like gally and beipis are feeding the herbivores compies and frogs and crabs, no they are feeding themselves and even carnivores.

The problem I have with mix packing is that its only for PVP gain, but omnivores can legitimately add to the ecosystem without pvp

Okay deino may be a bad example, but what about beipi and troodon or gally and herrera? The smaller carnivores could really benefit from working with the omnivores.

I just feel like mix packing is always this thing people do specially for pvp gain. Like what does herbivores and carnivores get out of sticking together? Its just bullying over players. But omnivores can actually fit into carnivore ecosystems without breaking immersion or interfering with pvp balance.

I just think the foraging mechanic is almost designed to feed some of these carnivores that cant do it themselves. One omnivore has almost no reason to forage around herbivores when they can just migrate and eat plants with them.

I think so. The only times I’ve felt extremely upset with mix packing is herbivore/carnivore. it would never happen out in the wild like players use it, and its kind of just BS for pvp.

The troodons dont kill the beipi and just leave it as a third party that they help defend if other predators are around. Not because of malicious advantages but more so dangerous predators that may go for them next. Especially because they are nesting.

For me, the beipi here is only helping feed the troodons in a non destructive way to the server as its basically making something out of nothing, and in return it creates an interesting setting at north lake.
