I wouldn't know the actual answer but I can make a couple guesses:

• Unofficials aren't being bombarded by unending join requests when full
• Officials all run on the same specs so if there's an issue all of them have the issue usually
• Unofficials can pour all their resources into having more than enough resources to run a single server whereas that may be very expensive if the officials had excess processing power they don't always need
• Unofficials tend to tweak the server settings to improve performance, officials run 100% vanilla settings

Redwoods need ALOT of water. Specifically from fogs and clouds since they're so tall they can't efficiently transfer water from their roots alllllll the way to the top. That's why the redwoods we currently have grow exclusively in areas that have constant fog, mist, and low clouds so they can collect water from the sky as well as the ground.

So if the island were in a location with the right conditions redwoods could survive there

No point in making you all wait for a biome just because transition areas of the dome kit are still being assembled. The dome will still be just as neat even if you didn't see redwoods for the first time as the interior.
