Even though we say all the time that any and everything is subject to change, it would only serve to disappoint you in that event. So we usually refrain.

Here I’ll try to not be biased and just talk about the game. The isle is an early access game which means it is still being developed with bugs and balance issues but will change and get updates as time goes on. The devs aren’t money hungry and will probably never have pay to win. It is a very demanding game where you have to be okay with death even from stupid reasons like glitches, lag, or balance issues. But with that being said the game can be really fun if you can fight the bad and move on

Tbf yes they “started from scratch” but that doesn’t mean what a lot of people think it means. they most def reused a lot of functions from legacy, would be silly not to as most of it is basic, reusable stuff like eating, drinking, night vision, scent, etc. I still know of a very specific bug that has been in the game since 2016 and is still in evrima :,D a lot of it was still pretty similar when Evrima dropped. the biggest upgrade was movement and extra combat abilities of course, but most of the other stuff has the same bones I’d say. even deino didn’t change much and he was originally going to get released in legacy lol

I think your stance on the game will vary depending on a lot of different factors. But at the end of the day something that is needed is a bit of leniency.

The Isle Evrima has been in development for 7 years, if we go by their announcement in March 2019. Within that time they have been predominantly focused on incremental updates, with each update adding either a creature, new playstyle, or core mechanic. Occasionally all at once. They are a small team, that develops slowly for a multitude of reasons, but they aren't going to stop development partway through if that is a concern. Money isn't much of an issue, they just seem content with their slow pace. Early Access isn't really an accurate term, but that's what it's labeled as. With that, there will be bugs and performance issues, sometimes you'll crash, sometimes you'll get stuck, sometimes a bs mechanic will grab you from a mile away... stuff like that. Obviously that can be frustrating, but at this point it's just kinda to be expected.

Hacking and cheating are an issue, but not nearly as much as years prior, in recent years they've added a lot of server checks to prevent outright cheating. At this point the only remaining damage hack is with Triceratops and Diabloceratops.

If you are looking for a challenging game, I can't really say this game is for you... sorry. It's very inaccessible and unintuitive, and when you don't know how the game works, it feels hard, key examples of this include every single survival mechanic, AI, the elder quests being completely hidden from the player, creature mechanics never being explained, no tutorial, and even accessing Evrima requires you to opt into the beta. It is also extremely punishing, often a momentary mistake will result in losing hours of progress, aforementioned bugs and general instability do not help with that. But that's just kinda how the game is. Once you learn it, it's easy, extremely easy. So once you get over that hump, you'll be left with the combat.

The combat overall has very good foundations, movement feels significantly better than PoT, all the creatures are responsive, turning, drifting, and all of that feel very natural. Stamina takes some getting used to but it rewards careful resource management. Every creature being melee is interesting as always... but a lot of the core creature mechanics, at least in recent updates have very heavily dictated the flow of combat. Rarely will you engage with the combat in a deep way, as much as you'll just use your ability, and secure the kill. Which works well in some scenarios, and seeing it in action can be quite satisfying, but honestly its up to the individual.

Ultimately, you have a few different outlets for enjoyment. If you are into survival, there isn't much for you. But if you are into a completionist mentality, or otherwise want to engage with progression, Elders have a lot of options for long term goals, you can entomb 4 times and stock up 16 upgraded mutations, which can feel surprisingly rewarding. If you just want to exist as a creature, The Isle is more than satisfactory, you can just walk around, nest, and sit in a vc with your friends, and have a grand ol time. If you are into the competitive side of the game... or actually want to measure your investment in relation to others, your outlet is combat. Most of the time combat is something you opt into, there isn't much reason to fight other than just for fun. But if you do get enjoyment from that, and the high risk involved, you will enjoy The Isle, and seek out the combat.

The game has a fairly well rounded roster, you can have a good time with just about any of them, and more creatures are just around the corner. At this point the core mechanics, although messy, are here. So I'd say if you try it for a bit, and enjoy what you see, you'll probably get a lot out of it, because it's only going to expand on these foundations. If you don't enjoy those foundations however, the game might not be for you.

This is innacurate, the systems Deinosuchus uses were not being worked on in Legacy, scent, movement, growth, etc. were all remade from scratch, and we can, to a certain extent track that.

We also know they couldn't have just pulled code straight from legacy since the dev kit was destroyed. It was made from scratch out of necessity.

Ok can you help me figure this out? All I wanna do is experience prime elder Maia and for some reason I haven’t gotten it a single time. Things I’ve tried:

First ~4 runs I played how I normally do, thinking it would be a breeze.

After 4th grow I decided to have a strat because frail elder Maia is INSANELY SLOW and sucks lol

Runs 4 to ~20 I made sure to

• have a perfect diet 100% of the time

-visited a sanctuary for a min of 10 min

-traveled to as many inactive/active zones as possible, and took the advice of others and made sure plants were spawned in

• never threw up, infertile, injured

• never nested, since i couldn’t find other maias

• a few times I took the advice of some peeps here and visited 2 specific areas on the map “guaranteed for prime”

Any ideas why I can’t achieve prime Maia?

Isle optimization hasnt always been the best tbh, but it can also be due to the server as well and the AI, i get more than that usually, oh and he also has low graphic settings too.

Idk either and ive regrown Maia 20 some times because I love Maia and frail sucks… ive asked around but no one really knows. Some peeps said they also had trouble getting to prime as Maia but yeah idk. I just gave up for now until someone knows for sure. Thanks for the help tho

oh this game is on Unreal Engine...they need to ditch Lumen. Look at Arc Raiders - all baked in lightining, no lumen

They kinda need to use dynamic lighting and vsm with how the game is. Baked lighting wouldn't really work for em.

I don't think it would.
If you recall there was already a server with proxy chat implemented, and playing on it felt fine aside from the jank. Tie the sounds to a per creature basis and have the sound be present in the game itself and it'll be fine.

Plus you could just have it be a toggle for unofficials. But ah... most unofficials just emulate the official experience so it would probably just stay enabled.

I usually just enter a zone for a minute, leave it for a minute, re enter it, and repeat for a while and that tends to work fine for me.
