I mean “pinned and killed whenever someone feels like it” is a bit of an exaggeration because A: there’s like 3 Dino’s who have a pin (Deino grab too I guess, and troodon barely counts). There are very few encounters where animals have little control over if they get pinned or not. Which tbh is just trike & Dibble because they are designed to sit there and fight whatever comes at them and don’t have the luxury to avoid things as easily, and because they are intended to struggle against groups it often gets the best of them

Cerato has arguably one of the easiest grows. Because it has nearly everything on its diet, can eat everything regardless of decay ontop of bones and has like a bajillion things good about it

Frankly the only downside to Cerato is that it’s slow for a good chunk of its life. But once you hit adult you are golden

1: players are supposed to figure out requirements through gameplay, the argument of “being chopped without prime” could be made for like 10 different animals so idk what Cerato is any different and I’m not saying the elder system is perfect. I’d def like to see some changes

2: “it loses most matchups” is vague and doesn’t reflect that there are different animals in the game. Obviously a Cerato isn’t gonna fight a Maia or Dibble by itself because it’s smaller. Allo it has a solid chance while on a corpse. Teno, Carno, raptors, dilos, pachys are all reasonable for ceratos to kill and if it’s on a corpse it hardly ever goes down easily. Granted player skill comes into play but Generally speaking it’s not a pushover. Cerato was the #1 played Carnivore prior to allo & Rex for a reason

3: This argument can yet again be made for any animal under 1.4T, what actually one taps a Cerato? Elder Maia, Trike, Rex, Deino that’s it. Raptors require wearing you down or a large group to pin you, same with Allo to a lesser degree so no it’s not instant

Point 4 & 6 can yet again be said for just about anything

5: Cannibalism is yet again another source of food. Which to add on to the diet statement, it’s not about how easy or hard the diet system is. It’s that Cerato has the ability to consume just about anything for nutrition which is what things like Carno & Allo wish they had. Granted natural cannibalism does force you to be weary of your own species more than you normally would and sure I can see that as a valid point

that's what i think. depends on how the profiles will be written for the server, but generally yeah? Carnivores shouldn't be assiting herbis and vice versa or their direct competitiors. (For example in the wild, lions, hyenas, cheetahs and leopards all share a biome but directly compete with each other for resources so they aren't friendly to each other)

If my dream could be fulfilled, the RP is built off real stakes, natural ones. I talked about before how Deino's existance promotes the need to actually have to consider water sources and migrate being an example of this. Or how things like Beipi or Austro leaving water are signs if danger. Or how cera's attract to corpses.

We also have signs of clear territory ownership like talked earlier when you see something clearly larger than you in the area either eating up food or killing you for it. We need so much more of these elements to just naturally have players rely on their instincts (audio, sight, scent) to develop realism unintentionally. We'll have that RP when we have ecosystem synergy working like that but until then.... dino battle royale sim :')

back then, Dibble and Stego would form massive herds in the swamps, constantly broadcasting their 1calls, and Tenno would often group up in the delta.

If you are a 8 ton animal you can still use your weight to fight back against a 12 ton animal.

Your weight DOES NOT disappear because of the fact the opponent is larger.

This is how it works in physical sports. Larger fighters don’t instantly win. Weight goes BOTH ways. I can use my weight to deliver a powerful attack to a stronger foe. My weight doesn’t stop being a thing.
