I did quite like the beast though. I watched all the games with playthoughs. The beast felt fresh compared to the second game. I enjoyed the story and getting to see returning characters was really cool but it did not feel forced. Plus the potential team up for the next game I feel will be hype. If they let you control 2 characters and switch between them to do stuff around the world would be peak. Or even just built in multiplayer.

one idea i had was a fetch quest (i know these have a bad reputation) but for each strain there is an item on the map you must find, and once you find it you can become a strain. the way this system keeps it rare is there would be like 600 hiding spots for these items and 1 of the spots has it. that way, even if you know the hiding spots, you can’t possibly search them all. it’s essentially random who gets it but also not

In my opinion the elder system and growing old and weak should be more tied to combat, such as if your dino has been in very few fights in its elder stage and kept eating healthy your stats should decrease at a minuscule rate, but the more you get into combat and get injured the more those "scars" stack up and affect your dino negatively thus promoting you to entomb when your dino is too frail. Your stats will still degrade naturally but the rate it decreases depends on how well you take care of your dino in its last stage of life.

Also because there’s a lot of different “designs” for the gen1/tribal/cannibal/whatever, but most of them are still basic humanoid proportions and could honestly just be visual customization. We already have the two versions of gen1 with one being “blind attack on titan” and one being “weird orc”, so adding a few more shouldn’t be a problem
