As someone who liked official server a lot up until the rex/allo patch I would very much recommend going to unofficial servers. Mixpackers and hackers have completely taken over official servers its not even worth playing on them anymore. Mettas Den is pretty much officials but without mixpacking and overpacking and they will regrow you if you die to rulebreak or hackers

I respectfully warn everybody to never play in EU1. Just spawned as my almost adult rex, haven't played from a week, in the first 5 minutes saw a stego, went to try and sneak on him but then i saw he was in a "pack" with 4 adult allos. @wanton portal Since you're a beginner, my recommendations for starting the game are to catch Gallimimus, Dryo, or Hypsi. After you manage to grow all three, if you want to try starting with a carnivore, begin by using Troodon.

The current difficulty for carnivores compared to herbivores in the game is at least tripled, for 3 reasons:

1- Your food runs away from you.
2- When bots are encountered, many defend themselves; for smaller bots, there aren't any easier ones to get food from, like the suggested troodon.
3- If your food is another player, it will defend itself and probably kill you if you don't assess the situation before attacking.

Therefore, implementing something in the game like feeding on insects and other small creatures for smaller carnivores is being considered.

It's really not all that realistic.
I would say the game is actually rather on par with PoT in terms of realism with it's dinosaurs. The appeal was never the realism, it's just the depth of the combat and movement. That's honestly the main thing setting it apart.

Pretty much everything in the game feels like it's filtering you into a more combat focused mindset, there is barely anything to ground it to survival, and there is even less to tie you to realistic behaviors. Because the game only really has it's combat going for it, it is 100% not a surprise that realism servers just aren't a focus.

Ironically, PoT is the better game for roleplay almost specifically because it has less robust combat.

I feel like this was a lot more right before elders, yeah the elder system needs some work but players are a lot more careful and survival oriented now depending on which entombment they are on and if they plan to entomb at all. You see players opting to scavenge over taking a fight thats right in front of them, actual corpse contests rather then fighting over it and general hesitance over combar since so much more is on the line. And yeah the isle isn't exactly realistic but its not really unrealistic either, combat is far more punishing then any of its competition as well as just general failure to be competent. This is server specific of course, I play on petits with no Ai so mistakes can genuinely cost you.

I disagree, I think boiling things down to that will leave you with a PoT realism situation. They all blend together as holding the same weight and yet naturally people will gravitate towards the apexes because a lot of people just want the notion of being at the top.

There should be incentives to playing certain creatures over others, I want to play a creature because of a desirable advantage in competition over others, because I like the feel of the creature, or because I am particularly good at it. Removing distinct advantages behind each playable is just removing a potentially interesting facet of the game with pretty much no return.

Elders didn't really remove the emphasis on combat as much as it just obscured it. People are more focused on survival temporarily for the combat advantages in the long run, getting to entomb once you start getting weaker would offer far greater returns than being guaranteed to lose a fight at frail. This hasn't meaningfully shifted the game away from combat, the only thing it did was delay it or add conditions to it.

Players still rush to Prime, fight as long as they can to get the most of it, then wait through the cooldown that is growth... and do it all over again. The mentality hasn't shifted, even though the behavior has, and I think that is far more important. The game is still designed in a way that creates that mentality, regardless of a mitigating factor like elders.

That is true, people do naturally go towards the apexs because “stronger dino”. Things like growth should def be an incentive towards playing smaller animals. They grow faster and so you don’t have nearly as long of a wait. Whereas larger dinosaurs have a longer growth and require more investment/should be harder to grow in general (not just based on time)

What I more so meant with not wanting too many incentives towards specific playables is stuff like (and I’m pulling this outta nowhere btw) “I’m playing a low population playable so I receive extra growth & regen stats” or even something like giving extra mutations to low population dinosaurs. Silly arbitrary stuff like that is what I don’t want to dive into when it comes to incentives

Again, the end goal hasn't changed, the path to reach that goal has, the reason it hasn't shifted the game away from combat is because that is still essentially the only thing on a players mind when they engage with those mechanics. Just because they are doing survival focused behaviors doesn't mean they are motivated by survival. They aren't surviving because surviving is fun, they are surviving because that means they can get to the part they really find fun, the combat. The game itself doesn't test the players survival skills, it's just testing their patience.

If you want to guarantee yourself a win, it is best to entomb a few times or just wait for prime elder. There is no more permanent adult phase, but all that has done is shift the focus from surviving just one phase (Growth to adult) to surviving multiple phases over a longer period of time (Elders.) the actual principle hasn't changed at all, the mentality hasn't shifted either, the only difference is players are forced to do it a little more.

yes this is very true. while I understand the reason behind removing nesting at 100% it took away from one of the few gameplay loops because finding a player randomly in the wild that wants to nest in the aloted time frames can be stressful.

the self nest mut bugs out once you entomb it states its not a nestable mutation but entombing breaks it & it disappears so while I would of been very tempted to get this im not wasting several slots just to nest when I can be getting muts to help me survive.

the other elephant in the room is, no incentive to keep entombing once you max your muts out. nothing to do & if you choose to stay old you have nothing to do but die anyways.

Which is a little sad to me because there's many aspects of the game that have through the discord been communicated thusly, like how humans are planned to shadow drop so that "You log in one day and just hear a gunshot in the distance" or "one day you'll log in and (cannibal with the weird legs) will be broadcasting from one of the facilities" and while in concept that sounds haunting and cool, isn't what I feel is thematically appropriate for how The Isle feels currently.

It's like the biomechanical plants and stuff feel jarring, it feels very Sci-FI rather than SCI-fi; it feels like I was sold one product and bought one that will change to something different.

Like, I like the concepts in isolation, but if I bought, let's say, I dunno, helldivers, and suddenly literal demons from The Bible™ showed up; the concepts are fine but the execution in setting would have to be VERY compelling for me to feel alright with their inclusion, especially since almost NO marketing or traffic about this game via word of mouth or youtube discusses any of this

Even tutorial websites and videos are constantly outdated, unfinished, not comunicated correctly. Core mechanics are just never elaborated upon, things like brightness sliders aren't in settings but there's very in depth mechanics for all these different things and echosystem symbiosis and diet and primes and elders and nesting and all that, but it seems like there's no genuine concensus and I am just supposed to "figure it out" when this sort of game is hostile to that inheritly as the whole point is you cannot trust anyone even of your own species as it stands. How do you learn the game? Well, you go to sanctuaries. I wouldn't have known they existed unless I found out via crossreferencing multiple guide websites and videos. And then they all say different things. Oh, but they're camped by predators, so they're actually some of the least safe places, etc.

Steam advertises Legacy, and even legacy didn't really push much of this mutant human aspect from anything I could see. I am all for surprise reveals and not "showing the monster too early" as is the horror media fau-pas, but it genuinely is a little jarring to be told the the entire vibe of the game is drastically different because something not even eluded to in game right now is the basis for the entire setting of the game, if that makes sense.
