I would use Eevee as it has a RayTracing option that basically makes it look like Cycles, but renders in a fraction of the time.

Another thing you can do is to create a plain underneath so that he light refracts off of it. A neat trick you can do as well is to make the plain green to simulate grass below them.

I think the only way to curb it on - official servers anyway - would be to change how people join servers

Rather than choosing which server to join individually, it'd have to be via something like matchmaking, where you select what server zone to join, and you get thrown in one whenever there is a space available.
If you wanted to join with a party, you'd make party lobby, pick a playable, then matchmake in, so it'd be much harder for discord groups to coordinate mixpacking efforts

This would ofcourse make it way harder to just be in a server and switch to different playables whenever you die though, and would need to have animals saved outside of the server
