Preallocating means that it's reserving the space on your harddrive for the game files so that you don't accidentally say fill up your harddrive before the game finishes downloading

@chilly snow find the file in the pinned message my Amarok and find the Texture Quality setting in that file. You can either manually set it from there, or you can delete the file and then verify game files (or just start the game and it should rebuild the file I think) and it could fix it. 0 is low, 1 medium, 2 High, etc...

@tough arch Jump to Amarok's pinned message and then scroll down a little following his conversation. He talks about what to do if you're missing certain key bindings.

i get same error & ive tried uninstalling game, re-installing, verifying game files, and more & still have same problem: ive also done GPU updates windows updates n all other possible fixes with issue still occuring. If it doesnt just freeze up my computer I also get a werid pattern on my screen before returning to desktop with that error message

nothing and everything. its goes on almost all the time. it is more obvious when moving fast tho as the stop is so quickly over slow movement is not affected so much

It's a general server issue. You're not the only one. Fixes will be put in place soon ☺️. If you're able to restart your router that tends to help sometimes.

if you are trying to change the texture quality to be higher or lower, look in pins. the top pin explains what to do. if you are unable to see appdata then click view at the top of file explorer and check the box next to hidden items and the box next to filename extensions. 0=low, 1=medium, 2=high, 3=epic, and 4=cinematic. But this is not the case for the texture quality setting. For texture quality, 2=low, 3=high, and 4=cinematic. setting a number lower than 2 for texture quality will just be set to 2 automatically upon entering the game

Idk if anyone else has had this issue but I've hopped on and my camera is stuck underneath my dinosaur and is constantly spinning. The only time I can get it to stop is by typing in the chat box, once I leave it, it goes right back to spinning. I have logged out, exited the game and come back in but nothing changes.

Your keyboard doesn't affect your camera anyways so that doesn't make much sense. He's asking if you have a controller connected to your PC at all. If you have a controller connected at all, sometimes it may be set in a position that makes the analog stick tilt and would cause the camera movement. You may be playing with the mouse and keyboard, but any controller still being plugged in will add input whether you're using it or not

If you do have a controller plugged in, try unplugging it to see if that fixes it. If you don't have a controller plugged in at all, try switching out your mouse to see if that fixes the issue, as your mouse could also be funky and would be the only other thing causing that sort of camera issue.

There's a sort of health locking mechanic in place where if you take damage, your total max health is reduced for a time until you can heal it off. If you took enough damage to get you near death, it'll take some time to fully heal it off.

May just have to wait tell game is fully develop cuz with new releases will always come with bugs but as people are announcing these bugs allows devs to dig into and find out and fix the issue.
I just started last night but haven't been able to do anything cause of audio is distorted and fps is low I just now uninstalled and reinstalled which just finished and I'll see if that fixed my issue if not so far lowing graphics and updates haven't worked so far but we will soon find out

i know someone who can't join any servers Evrima/Legacy. And i have no idea how he has the same problem on the 2 versions. He tried everything, unistall-download, change the version and going back to the other, he still have the same problem. still getting a huge decline in FPS over time. i start out at 120 fps ish and over 10-15 minutes decline to 20 fps until i relog. then start over at 120 and decline again back to 20 over 10-15 mintues.

Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
Select View > Options > Change folder and search options.
Select the View tab and, in Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and OK.
Afterwards, at the bottom left of your taskbar there should be a white search bar. Type %APPDATA% in there and open your %APPDATA% folder.
At the top you'll see the filepath, click "Appdata" to go back to the actual Appdata folder, then to local > TheIsle > delete the "Saved" folder.

@high marlin yes, i can. Evrima is somehow interacting with the old legacy data. you have multiple options to solve the problem.

First to clean install, erase the isle order and clean up your system. Clean reinstall evrima now.

Second would be in case you got both, evrima and legacy installed, run legacy, set all graphics to epic, save, start up evrima and enjoy your epic textures.

Third would be a change of install location to another harddrive to split the path clearly.

I, for me, deleted legacy. No issues with evrima graphic settings anymore.

I tested that out. Could not save graphic settings on evrima, but had same settings in legacy. Changed and saved in legacy amd had same settings on evrima.

I'm trying to fix the "optional parameters" steam error following the guide in pinned messages, but after following the steps, "compatibility mode" and "run this program as an administrator" are both already unchecked, as the guide says they should be, but i still get the "optional parameters" message when i launch the game. is there anything else i can try?

No matter what server I'm on, the server always crashes every so often. I'll be playing fine beforehand and then itll randomly kick me out of the server and return me to the main menu. I dont know what's causing this, but I'm currently verifying the files to see if that helps at all. If anyone has any idea what could be causing this let me know.

I don't know if non-in-game bug reports/troubleshooting is allowed here, but this happens whenever I try to open the game (I hit the game's icon on the desktop or using the play button in Steam, then it says preparing to launch, then goes out for about 5 whole minutes before finally bringing this up)

More of a bug report than troubleshooting, but I had trouble safelogging. I'm attaching a screenshot that shows that it stayed at 0 on the timer for a while. I was able to change positions and successfully log out, though. (Maybe my Utah was just uncomfy)

I just bought this computer a year ago and I'm nowhere near financially stable enough to get a new one. This computer meets the requirements to play The Isle and can on Epic settings, it only lags this bad when I stream. I'm looking into other streaming software options and will consider upgrading my graphics card when I can afford it.

@median widget @spare island @eager fjord you need to reset your settings. If it don't work ingame you need to delete your save files manually.

Open your explorer and type this:

%localappdata%

Search for TheIsle folder and delete it. (It will delete all your save files)

Start your game and set all your settings.

Find this file: C:/users/youruser/AppData/Local/TheIsle/Saved/Config/WindowsClient/GameUserSettings.txt
(or use shortcut %localappdata% in the address bar then navigate to TheIsle/Saved/Config/WindowsClient/GameUserSettings.txt)

And then look for the [ScalabilityGroups] section, and what should be the first thing in that list, sg.ResolutionQuality=100.000000

Just set that to 100.0 if it's not. If you don't see it at all, you can add it in the appropriate section and it'll work

Update: Updatin Nvidia drivers, uptimizing the Isle in GeForce experience and updating PhysX settings to use GPU and restarting helped
Update 2: Make sure you don't have "Cinematic" selected anywhere, changing all cinematic settings to epic doubled the FPS 🙂

No, it's optimized, just not for 4k and cinematic settings. Playing at 1080p with epic settings had a solid 60fps on a pretty nice rig. Try bringing the settings down to those, and then slowly bringing the settings that you want back up. If you notice that one setting in particular is what drops the performance exponentially, then you can just exclude bumping up that setting and continue on until you're back to where you want it. More or less anyways.

Ive played Evrima since its initial release to the public, and since the earliest stages of whats now called "Legacy". Ive had no issues with FPS till now. Last few weeks Ive has solid 60+fps at all times even in the swamp. Today, I suddenly get just 20....

You say you play on max settings, does that mean cinematic or epic?

Ignore that actually because switching what you can to cinematic in Evrima doesn't make a difference even for me. So it's probably the fact that you're playing in 4k. I understand you may have been able to play it fine before, but an update changes things and this last one could have done something that caused the 4k to suddenly perform worse. Just try adjusting the resolution down and see if the issue persists. If you get down to 1080p and you're still having problems, then it's an actual issue. If you're performing fine at that and even a little above then you just need to change your settings a bit to adjust for the update.

Normally I can tolerate 30 FPS, but it makes this game look so awful and makes processing visual information so hard I'm not sure I'd be able to keep playing until the situation is amended

But when I opened up Evrima just now, I find this; no servers are showing up and most of the buttons and icons to the right are not even showing up. If you want to change your texture setting for now, you'll have to find your local config file and manually change it in there. Typing %localappdata% into the file explorer address bar and then going into TheIsle\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\ and then finding the GameUserSettings.ini file will lead you to it. You find the [ScalabilityGroups] section, and find the sg.TextureQuality= part. Setting the number on that will change the setting. 0 is low, 4 is cinematic.

so i have no clue if this is a bug, but I have two friends experiencing a rough time during the isle. so #1 I have a freind to where whenver he puts in an input like to move- there is atleast a secondish delay before the input goes through, and whenever he enters a command like holding E, it constantly resets the animtion instead of actually cycling through. he could sleep, jump, and attack- but these all were delayed.

@prime grotto it might be possible in the game user settings if you're willing to try.

Changing the scale on both of these to -1.000000 should flip them both. So if you want to set it to where moving the mouse Up would move the camera down, you'd just change the one that says "LookUp" to be that -1 scale

You can find the settings at the very bottom of the GameUserSettings.ini file

Having trouble with strange controls in evrima, if I F call, I cannot F call again for around a minute, if I 1 call or any other call, I am unable to make any noise for around one minute (pressing the buttons does nothing), and if I bite, it stops me from biting for about a minute as well.

I've checked my controls and keybinds and they are all set to what they were before I began having this issue, and I have not changed them yet

Hey, I couldnt find this in the pinned troubleshooting channel, or file of summed up bugs, so maybe anyone can help me here: the game works without any issues mostly, the only problem I have is that my mouse..... body... like my actual mouse trigger is about 3cm lower and to the left than my actual cursor is, i can still click things but it is kinda really annoying :I

Ill post again because I bought the game for christmas for two freinds, one of them had this abyssmal delay across the board on their controls, around 1-3 seconds, but they had 40 ping the entire time. Also experienced animation resetting constantly while eating. Drinking, wallowing.

So I fell through a hole in the map as a hypsi and I just kept on falling until my body just disappeared? I restarted the game, but all I can see is the island from above. How to fix Fatal error: [File:Unknown] [Line: 149]

(1) Right click on the Isle in your steam games list, and click on "Properties"

(2) Click on the tab labeled local files, then click on "BROWSE LOCAL FILES"

(3) This will take you to the game's directory, delete everything in this folder

(4) After deleting, go back to the properties menu and click on "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES"

(5) This will retrieve all of the deleted game files, and reinstall. When you relaunch the game, you should be able to join a server without issue

Hey, I got bugged out on Official EU 2 pouncing as a Utah, I fell through the ground and got forever stuck, everything stop working, I couldn't even die from hunger or thirst. @past rampart I also have the issue. Both Steam and The Isle are set for english. Yet the game menus are not loading correctly. Did either of you find a fix for this? Its not game breaking, but it is annoying.

The Ins menu gets mixed with local language and english.

I really prefer to have it all on english. If there is a fix, please let me know how to do it.

Edit: Yes, I am playing Evrima, the issue above it relates to that. Tks.

Just less people disconnecting, i.e. take TEUTONIC 1; used to be 130, and it'd kick like 40 people out at once at some intervals.

Told them to reduce the count by 30 so now at least its 15 players getting kicked but smaller capacity servers have the same issue.

no this is new. i just got on evrima after about a month away. i had never had any issues previously with DC/desync/teleporting players/server crashes and FPS drop. but yesterday and today ive had all of the above. which is undoubtedly a result of their most recent patch. my FPS was cut by 75%. i usually run at over 100 on cinematic settings and now im at 25-30 on cinematic. lowered my settings. fine, i guess ill compromise. got my fps back up. started playing. every 1-3 minutes me, and my friends were all disconnecting. granted it only takes a few seconds to get back in, but thats just beyond ridiculous. then just casually walking through the game, everyone is teleporting all over the place. evrima is actually performing worse than legacy right now. which is pathetic. I love evrima, ive loved every second since stego was introduced. but whatever the devs did recently has fucked it up badly. to summarize one last time, huge fps drop for everyone. lower end pc cant even play anymore. teleporting everywhere all the time for everyone in sight. server disconnecting every 2-3 minutes.

me and my friends left legacy for good 2 days ago because of the horrendous game breaking teleporting that was introduced in the most recent legacy patch. we did not expect to find evrima even more broken and unplayable than legacy. at least people with lower pc's were able to load in on legacy....

I have experienced none of the above. I mostly play on a server hosted on Ping Perfect of which I am an admin, I have horrible wifi, an above decent PC, play on all epic settings 1080p, and have not needed to ever troubleshoot the game since evrima launched. I've only crashed once when loading into the game randomly on about the second Evrima update, and that was the last and only time the game has crashed or given me any game-breaking issues.

The devs are doing what they can for the people who are having problems, have faith in that. The problem is that they can't fix every issue in one update, and it seems like everytime they release a new update, it breaks the game for a different set of people. Just give them time, it'll get fixed eventually.

It being new further strengthens my point. The game is a WIP and these issues are bound to crop up randomly through updates. Fear not though the devs are aware of the issue and are looking into a patch fixing it. Just know this can and will happen with early access games.

after reading the pins, following advice. downloading and uninstalling (full delete of files) the game 3 times on two separate SSD's to attempt playing The Isle. Rolled back drivers to test other versions of the drivers, updated drivers both windows and nvidia to the most up to date ones. I have officially determined i can do no more. I'm unsure of where to go from here, other than to wait for another month or two to play the game.

I am just trying to figure out who to talk with at this point about these issues. I have 700 hours on the Isle and have been away for months, I now can no longer play after days of trying to fix things on my end.

I have seen the manual uninstall and reinstall fix this specific error many times.. its difficult to help you from this point without actually seeing if all of the isles files are being completely deleted from your c and d drives.
If you're 100% positive you have, then assume the developers are in fact working of fixes for these issues. You may have to hold out considering evrima is a beta branch, its a heavy wip and you may have to wait.

@chilly wolf @median crypt if you go to your configuration file you can manually set the frame rate limit here to whatever you want and it should update appropriate in-game when you next start it up. Probably 60 but if you need to set it lower for whatever reason you can. You can search the channel for how to find your config file if you don't know how to.

Hello, I've a small question.
I've been playing Evrima branch for a while on the servers.
The game is running just perfectly for a certain amount of time.
However, I constantly get kicked out of the servers after some time on it.
It just throw me back to the main screen for no reason.
Pretty sure, I followed the rules and also pretty sure my system can handle the game.
Is this a known issue?

List of of my specs

Processor Information:
CPU Vendor: GenuineIntel
CPU Brand: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz

Operating System Version:
Windows 10 (64 bit)

Video Card:
Driver: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Getting booted from servers is not a problem with your PC at all, it's either something to do with your internet connection or the server's connection to you being lost in some other way. Other users are reporting similar problems so a fix will likely come along eventually.

@odd sky It's not an issue with your pc, you can run the game fine. I have better specs than you and also get frequently kicked from servers, as far as I know this is an internal issue that the devs would need to look into.

Anyone know what's up with the gamepad settings? I can't update them with a controller (it either doesn't register the controller at all or does some weird thing where it only seems to register the Dpad Up button). When I press reset there's weird things set as default such as "Look Up = Left Stick Left", so I can't even play with default settings cause those key bindings are all over the place and make the game unplayable (ex. I can't look down at all so at some point the camera is just stuck on top of the dino). Does anyone else have similar issues when trying to play with a controller? I have tried using PS4, PS5 and an XBox Controller and all had the same issues.

Ahhh no it shouldn't have. If you don't see it and you're sure you're in the right config file then you should be able to just add the line yourself and it will work as intended.

I added the FrameRateLimit line and the settings in game shows the number i locked it at (30), but my fps still likes to jump way high (and way low to 8)

@daring nimbus I put in 30 and it's limiting my framerate as expected. If you're using an external software to check the framerate it might not be capturing it that accurately. Occasionally the framerate will jump up but it seems to be whenever it loads something, as idling while standing still doesn't cause the fluctuation

Thats kind of the whole problem. If the Workshop page still existed I could've gone to it went to my Subscribed Items and unsubscribed from them. But its gone. And I dont know of any other way to unsubscribe from Workshop content.

Well.. Thank you! Now I know this has to work! I just need to spend a couple hours preserving my subscriptions. Or going through the whole list. And eventually I will be able to get rid of it.

After using my brain for a moment. I thought that instead of wasting time Saving all 150 pages of content for the various games I am subbed to into collections or adding them all to favourites. I could try my luck and quickly skim through the list, hoping the few Isle mods I ought to be subscribed to wont be burried under everything else. After 37 pages I found them! And unsubscribed! Now I just need to reinstall the game to test and see if any new Workshop download will pop up. Which, it obviously should not.

It took me quite a while and a couple more attempts but I seem to have finally managed to get rid of it all. So thank you David and thank you again Auxiar for your help!

Try checking task manager and just making sure that the Isle isn't running in the background anywhere.

If it's not then a computer restart should fix it. Or you could try exiting and re-entering steam again before that.

For me the game was working better before the hotfix, Now its more laggy and players are teleporting more. Nearly everytime I try pounce as a utah I just go right through them and im getting bitten from players that are a couple of feet away in a chase. Ive been playing evrima since day one, Ive never played lagacy and I have over 600 hours just on evrima... Yes I have no life just a big Isle fan... So I know how the game works more than most and right now I dont want to play it at all. Good luck devs hope things get better 😦

@whole beacon You can change the cloud settings, but the settings do not persist through level changes or closing and reopening the menu. So when you get in a server setting it to something different and applying will change them, however you'll need to do it each time you enter a server until they fix that.

Current bug with the menu. Type this into file explorer's address bar: %localappdata%/TheIsle/Saved/Config/WindowsClient/GameUserSettings.ini find the TextureQuality=3 setting and change it to something 0-4. 0 low, 1 medium, 2 high, 3 epic, 4 cinematic

I love the game but can't play it right now. And its frustrating. All I have as information for other people experiencing that, is to re-download the game, which is for me a temporary fix that makes it playable for an hour then I have to redownload to get rid of the issue...

I fixed the issue! I uninstalled every file related to the isle, then reinstalled it. After reinstalling the isle I downloaded evrima. Once I downloaded evrima, I validated the local files. IT WORKED I CAN HEAR AGAIN!

Make sure the game is closed, put this into file explorer's address bar %localappdata%\TheIsle\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\GameUserSettings.ini and in the opened text file find the lines circled in the image and delete them. Then save the file and try relaunching the game. According to Amarok it will cause a full reset of your bindings, and should bring the missing ones back.

i am experiencing random intervals of lag, its not as if people are jumping around everywhere, its as if it is stuttering... the noises sound like an explosion and not normal sound effects. i dont know if it is just my gpu, but i have 16gb ram and my cpu usage while playing is 47.3

I still don't know how to solve it. But I only see this screen when I try to enter a server that I am hosting on the same machine. (my server on my PC, on the same machine that I'm opening the game). When it's another server. Or my server on another machine, does not have this error.

Well it is not recommended to play on the same machine as the server.
But if it's just for testing. before releasing the server.
I suggest using virtual machine, I recommend virtualbox.

or Hyper-V

Create a virtual machine (I recommend searching on google on how to assemble 1).

install windows (windows server recommended) and then install steamcmd, Visual C ++ Redistributable 2013,
Visual C ++ Redistributable 2015 and 2019. (2019 ir for evrima)

And finally install the server on this virtual machine.

Do not forget to redirect the firewall ports to the virtual machine.

Huh. If that didn't work you can go back to that file and manually add it. Just find it in the list here and add it to yours

No it wouldn't matter if you closed steam. Or at least it shouldn't. If you open the file back up do the changes that you make save or are they missing/overwritten?

I don't see why that wouldn't work. Have you tried doing a complete reinstall of the game? Or you can try deleting the file completely, and then verifiying the files on steam to redownload it.

Ok, you'll need to do the uninstall, and then go to %localappdata% and then delete the whole TheIsle folder. After that's been deleted you can reinstall from steam and it might fix the issue

I believe that the direct connect has always had issues and never really worked. As for not being able to find a specific server, try this from the pinned help doc and see if it helps:

i think i can speak for a lot of People, if not the Main amount if i say hopely the issues getting fixed with upadte 3 or an hotfix before it i mean i want to play Evrima and log into a Server then playing for a few minutes and then it disconnects like sorry but currently even Legacy is better than Evrima at the moment

i believe they mean geforce NOW, the cloud gaming service
evrima no longer works on it for whatever reason since the most recent patch, i believe it's the vcruntime140_1.dll issue so either the devs gotta fix their shit or nvidia has to fix theirs

Developers can opt to not have their game use family sharing. Last I heard anything about it, the Isle quit using family sharing as it was being used more for exploitation than its actual use.
