Here is a list of steps to attempt to fix the file unknown line:868 error:

1. Go to The Isle install directory, then manually delete everything in the install directory.
2. Verify integrity of game files to redownload the game.
3. Make sure to do a clean installation of the latest GFX card drivers for your card. (Make sure to restart PC afterward)
4. In your windows search bar, type in cmd and right click command prompt and open as administrator.
5. In command prompt, type "sfc /scannow" without quotes. Wait for scan to complete. (Restart your PC afterward)
6. Go to the microsoft directx end-user runtime web installer page and download the installer.
7. Run the installer and follow the onscreen prompts. (After installation, restart PC)
8. Press "Windows key + r", then type in %localappdata%
9. Manually delete "TheIsle" folder, "D3DSCache" folder, and "UnrealEngine" folder.

These are the steps I have attempted and have had moderate success. The line:868 fatal error is still an issue, however this seems to minimize how often it happens. As it stands currently, there is no true solution to the line:868 fatal error. We will have to wait for the Dev team to release an update to fix this issue.

I feel your pain @vernal bramble. I've been dealing with this since the launch of 6.5 myself. I would recommend that everyone that is having this issue submit a bug report, so that the Dev's know how widespread of an issue this is across the community. Hopefully they can get it resolved soon.

yesterday i bought the isle but every time i tried to join a server (either official or unofficial) the game would crash with no error message. itd simply vanish
today i checked for windows updates, did the one that popped up and checked some of my drivers which said they had the best possible versions already installed. after that i went to the isle and i was able to play for a while.
however, after leaving the server ive been playing on and trying to join another one the error returned and im once again unable to play

Can somebody explain how the heck i can run this game.
I click in steam PLAY Button, 3 sec later game doesnt run , then i click again play and getting app running failure.
So i open task manager close steam, isle
I restart PC
Then again same thing.
Then i do "windows + r " and i type %appdata%
i delete The isle folder i try again. Still nothing..

I need to uinstall game and install every god damn day i want play ?

@merry obsidian I've came across this issue too, it usually happens when I join a server which is full and the game crashes, after I restart the game I get this message once. You friend should try to use the EAC Setup tho (YourPath\Steam\steamapps\common\The Isle\EasyAntiCheat -> EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup)

My friend has a problem that his game crashes out of nowhere. There is no error message just nothing.

He have, i9 13900 and rtx 4090

We are currently trying our luck with the solutions from the upper crashes. But if someone knows a solution please bring it on. I will keep you up to date.

He describes it like:

everytime i got to center of map i crash automatically
thats it theres no error message or anything and when i try to rejoin, it says easyanticheat is not loaded in integrity or someting.
He join server after crash, then see the anti cheat, and see his croc 1 sec, then die out of nowhere. Then hes in menu of game
