It would be different if the faces didn't look veryyyy similar, bumps and all.

I also am fine with using refrences and poses, etc. However, if you follow it too closely, it gets a bit vague on where your own talent starts and someone else's begins.

This one is very on the fence to me because there is quite a lot of differences between the two. Often times the same creature in a similar pose will look very similar. It’s the same creature after all. What real major difference is the body isn’t actually rotated the same in both images, giving you more view of the leg.

Yeah! There’s lots of common poses with big theropods, I hate to see people insinuate that they traced or have to track down what “ref” they used, when they may have no used one at all!

it's much more common with theropods too, I draw a dynamic pose with a theropod without a reference and from memory, it usually looks like a common pose used by others

there’s only so many poses a dinosaur or any animal can really have, especially off the top of your head, I usually just find pictures of like real life animals and base any paleo art I do off of those poses

Hey guys I'm trying to get in to digital art and I wonder what the best program/graphic tablet is to get for a beginner like me?

For beginners I'd suggest first trying digital art through free apps such as Ibis paint on phone or a normal tablet. You'd only need to buy a pen and see if digital art is your thing to go to ^^ It was my first drawing app for over 2 years before I decide to switch to a proper graphic tablet and photoshop

When it comes to " feeling" what stylus pen would you suggest that is comfortable to work with

And shading etc do the Apps work sensetive enough compared to a graphic tablet

I do not know exactly, I had some of the cheapest but got used to them pretty easily, as long as they are touch screen and eventually with different kinds of tips to fit your tastes. For the app it has everything needed in my opinion to start and do advanced works, the only hiccup would be adds poping here and there and the "unlock more pens for 8h if you watch this add"

Just to be clear it is only my opinions since I started with this app but can always be different and nothing stops you from going to the top directly with Procreate on an ipads or get a cheap/expensive graphic tablet ^^

Or you can use Sketchbook, or Medibang. Those two are both ones I used and they work like a charm. No ads on Sketchbook. Dunno about Medibang though. Both on PC and mobile

I have a 4090 and a 5800x3d with 32 gigs of ram, but the real savior is using a multi resolution modifier so it can switch subdivision levels on the fly I made most of it on a 1660 with a 3600 so it can be done lmao

Even though it's a figure, it's quite accurate. I'd reference something along those lines

They're more boxy on the snout, and it doesn't slope as much. Lips will help as well (unless you don't want to add them)

I personally lay the flats first after lining aka the base colours, and after that I will be focusing on the light direction points, like from where it is coming from.
Then for the shadows and start to blend them in however I want them to look and after that I go in with the highlights and more details

I am not the most refined painter but God I love layer settings like overlay, multiply etc and with those I make even more highlights and or shadow points

It's a process. But the best part is that there has never been a better or easier time in history to learn more about the things you take interest in. There's so many resources available. Seek them out and you'll improve by leaps and bounds.

Definitely, the only real obstacle at this point is time. That and filtering out the good tutorials from the bad ones, doesn’t help to learn a “quick and easy” method that only works for one thing when I need to learn the basics.

Well the good part animation wise is that the principles of animation are well established and haven't changed much. Even the software has barely changed by comparison to what you can do modeling wise etc. Learn the animation principles and apply them and your animations will improve.

@upbeat spruce I typically just draw bird feet, starting with the toe pads, and working back towards the center of the foot (Rough sketch because I suck at art, but this has helped me with small works in the past)

But bird feet combined with the cat's spread of how the foot looks when pressed down is typically how I try to do stuff when I make the rare stab at art

For just dinos in general I try to look at a ton of paleoart references and bird/crocodile references for visualizing how the scales work, and how the soft tissue adds extra thickness around the bones and joints

@safe sage Hi there! Loved the saddled allosaurus art. You asked for pointers so as someone who rides horses, here’s my take - breast collars generally have a loop around the base of neck to hold it in place. It’s attached to the center piece by a metal ring that id also attached to the straps that buckle to the saddle. If you need a reference just look up a horse breast collar. Some of them blend in well but you’ll see what I mean. Besides that it looks amazing! Absolutely love the added floof on the girth/cinch.
