large theropod dinosaurs generally have very high eye skull placement, like acro here. my ear is placed wrong but the eye is in the correct spot as is. and the angle would also shorten the skull a bit for perspective, i did not align my nostril correctly so that angle does seem a bit off. but your "fix" does not fix it. next time how about you only critic people asking for it

i think the crest could be lifted and angled more to shorten the jaw a bit more and give it more proper shape, i could also shape the skull out to be more pointy at the end. i'm assuming these things are also throwing it off. i'm not going to mess with this art more though, just note it for my future work

@cloud saddle , i’d say an 9/10. Your understanding of anatomy is imcredible, though. The neck and head seem abit too skinny for an allosaurus (im assuming), the legs and foreclaws are practically perfect, i would say between knowledgable and advanced.

@cloud saddle id say a solid 6/10 on this piece. (My Personal opinion) it looks good and i really like the Details you added. But the head and neck are kinda out of proportion for the body (too small an thin) also i think you kinda placed the eyes too much at the back of the skull. The claws on the feet are a little bit wonky and I feel like the body (torso) is a bit too big. Just as @sonic bolt I see alot of Potential here where just a little more practice would defenitly do its job. Good job so far!

Mods say I shouldn't include long descriptions in the fan art channel, so here it goes instead.

This is work in progress. I got annoyed all the scientifically accurate T-Rex figures are very expensive, so I decided to make my own for my daughter. Well I guess buying a resin 3d printer is more expensive than a T-Rex figure, but I guess I will use it for more projects. 😛

The articulated jaw screenshot is older as I'm working on the details in a separate file, but that's the plan. There will be 4 settings for the jaw - 0 deg (closed), 10 deg open, 20 deg open, 30 deg open.

Also I'm pretty happy with the technical solution (geometry nodes in Blender) I got for scales as they make more sense than any of the models my daughter already owns. They don't require hand sculpting, but follow hexagonal pattern with occasional pentagons and heptagons, not just a messy voronoi texture.

Thanks! I actually need to get rid of some of the detail, because the printer can't print ravines deep enough around the tiny scales and I'm afraid they will all get lost after painting. So the scales will get a bit bigger, but it will still be more detail than you get on figures from Schleich or Papo. 😛 I will post updates to the project, at some point I will probably try to monetize it somehow by selling STL files or/and complete painted figures. That project is a big time investment.

I don't know, I'm very new to this. If it works well after I apply some fixes then I might be selling STLs or just printed figures (and maybe painted, I'm learning, new to painting figures, but not to painting in general). Printed and painted though would probably be rather expensive given the time it needs to finish (printing + painting), so people would be paying for having something rare. You can get some nice and cheaper mass produced figures from Rebor or PNSO.

Lots of practice and, personally for me, watching time-lapse YouTube videos of people drawing using the same program I do.

It helps to have well rounded knowledge of traditional art as the techniques and theories translate well to digital media

I don't draw often anymore and not many dinosaurs, but I shook off some rust and recently did a secret santa art trade for digital media and I think it turned out not bad for trying a new brush and not doing anything serious for years. I watched some timelapses to refresh myself with krita and gain some inspiration for this drawing for example

I recommend following tutorials and watching time-lapses on youtube it can really help you learn those skills, observe how other artists utilize drawing software, and make awesome pictures

im not the best help but i use foreground and little details like grass covering feet so the character doesnt look like its just a sticker on a background. and if you have shadows, use the same color and shading style for both the character and the background. color and contrast help make sure the character stands out but doesnt look awkward

If you're having trouble getting the shape down, try tracing a few cerato heads to help build muscle memory of the unique shapes. Of course, tracing is only for practice not for creating original works.

It's a just really good photoshop skills and figurine use. The hands and the eyes look completely normal, so do the legs, and the proportions, for a spinosaurus, are exactly how figurines were back a few years ago. I do not think it is AI. Do not be so quick to judge.

And not to mention, I highly doubt that AI would be able to make all those very intricate dust particals, and that T-rex head on the ground

Hey. some of you might have seen my work in progress and prototype footage of my printable T.Rex model before (with articulated jaw!), It started as a fun project to make a proper T.Rex model for my daughter, cause she loves dinos and I couldn't find any nice detailed affordable T.Rexes that were not JP-like. I ended up investing hundreds of hours into the project. As many people suggested I should sell STL files, I decided to put some effort into a proper premiere. So what I posted is a frame of the promotional video I'm currently rendering! Also as I'm interested in making more of these (juvenile T.Rex and other dinos). It should all be ready hopefully next weekend or the weekend after that. I hope to do more if people are interested enough. I now I will be doing juvenile T.Rexes as I promised them to my daughter already. But it's quite hard to reach people nowadays, Instagram isn't as easy as it was a few years ago for artists. 😛 Algorithms are brutal for artist that don't do something new every day. And these big projects with proper research require more than some free evenings.

But I guess I can share work in progress pictures rather than new completed piece of art every day. 😉

Theres a few ways, if its very obviously traced by a beginner artist you can try to follow their thought process, like go to google images and search "trex sideview" and usually its one of the top results, people who trace tend to be those who dont know much about whats considered ok and not ok to share, forget to credit, etc. In these cases you could even ask directly what image they used as inspiration and they'll tell you, so you can inform them.
If you're around paleo artists circles you can sometimes also directly identify another artist's style or even specific piece and look through their gallery. You could also post the piece elsewhere and ask someone more experienced if they can tell where it was traced from.
Last resort I use is reverse image search through Google, Bing, Yandex, Baidu, Sogou, TinEye, Shutterstock and Alamy. May or may not work depending on how heavily edited it was, though.

How do you prevent the little clay boogers though when you're creating texture? Your sculpts are so smooth, mine always end up with little crusty bits when I'm trying to give it texture. Works well for making mini breads or cakes but everything else not so much

Is your clay air dry? If that's the case, that could be it. I use super sculpey, it's a polymer clay that hardens when baked. Or if you leave it on a surface that soaks up oil lol

ya I use premo, it's a brand of oven bake polymer clay under the sculpry brand

fun thing I learned about polymer clay on accident, if you let it sit in a plastic cup, like a red solo cup, it'll slowly melt it

With the clay boogers, are you talking about hard bits or slimy bits?

If it's slimy bits it could be residue from something the clay melted. The hard stuff might be crumbs or something similar

I think water messes with the clay too, making it not want to attach to itself

it's the crusty bits of clay you get when you're trying to make all the little lines for furry textures

have to brush em away with a paintbrush but it always ends up so rough not smooth

I don't use water on the clay except at the very end if I need parts to be suuuuper smooth

then rubbing alchohol works better anyway

The little rubber tip tools can be really helpful for smooth textures, i just got into clay stuff myself, got inspired by Krowdrah.

But i was messing around with the tool i got and i noticed the rubber tip ones are really nice for details

It's more if a scraping/pulling motion because if you only press down you get the shape of the tool you're using. I think I'm just going too fast so the material tears instead

Well, you don't want to leave it sitting out too long. It doesn't "dry out" but I've noticed if I let something sit for too long without baking it, it has higher chances of getting cracks

Sometimes with digital stuff, people add "noise" filters to create the illusion of texture too.

Sometimes it's not about creating every single scale but the illusion of with shadow.
