It really depends on the piece, though I usually take about 3-5 hours depending on complexity and detail of the piece. Sometimes most of the time I spend drawing the scales haha
And I usually start sketching out the dinosaur and then the environment. But I always put the background in place before starting lineart and polishing since the character should fit into the environment! :D

Ai art in a whole is kind of a controversial subject right now in the art community….but it’s getting so out of hand. The program in itself steps across so many boundaries when it comes to learning off of existing artists and their work…..most cases stealing really…..it’s so much worse when people use the program and try to pass it off as work done by their own hands….

I’ve had to leave a lot of my social media art groups, because they’re being overrun by artists claiming they’ve painted these fantastical pieces. Some you can clearly see it was made by Ai…..but they’ll typically lie through their teeth that it’s legitimate. And no one ever seems to question it.

The less people question it and want Ai art to be called what it is……the more rampant Ai users seem to get.

So thank you for keeping real artists in mind. ❤️ They work so hard to perfect their skills over the course of years of practice.

I'm a bit confused. I had put up in the fan art section, something I drew, and it was taken down. It was low quality from MS Paint, and it was a teno wearing a bandit mask, a cape, boots, gloves and a mustache. I don't know what's bad about that. Is anyone able to explain to me why it was taken down?

I remember seeing that, and it looked great Gallus! But I have heard before that they take anything down that's humanized, and having a teno with human clothes and a mustache is relating it to a person. That's the only thing I could think of, sad to see it taken down though.

Thank you for the suggestion! I actually DO have gimp but my computer is slow and it takes a long time to load it up, and my motivation for art has been very lacking lately, so while I had the idea I opted for the fastest way to get the idea out ^^' But, as I play more isle and have stories to tell, maybe I'll have more quality drawings to make of them.

I’ve found that each piece is different for me and can take any length of time. Depending on the subject and how experienced I am drawing it.

I’ve drawn full pieces of art in a day’s timeframe if I’m focused, other times it takes days of slow but steady working. I know some of this is very likely due to my ADHD and how well it’s treating me on any given day. 😂

My app Procreate has a statistics section that gives me the total time spent on a canvas (idle time is included so I keep that in mind).

yes! as someone who used krita in the past it very much is

on average 5 hours for a finished colored piece with no complex back ground. but while learning some pieces that were challenging would easily take 10+ hours, but over time with more experience that time shortens because you learn

I would say 6-12 hours is quite average for a nice digital art piece + background depending on art style. The breaks and research refs not counted.
It depends what technique one use, experience, program (3D stuff), what u are drawing and how much free time u got.
Freelance artists can take 1-6 months to finish a commision I've seen, they are usually of high quality tho.
But since u are looking for average, yeah personally 6-12 hours. 24+ hours to 5 days for more advanced quality, unless ur skilled u can do extreme quality under less time lol.
And yes if u count in breaks and research it can take weeks to months if u want to get it right.

Krita is great for drawing! There's a ton of videos on YouTube and you can download brushes and make your own too. One of the best completely free drawing programs imo

haven't used medibang, but krita is generally viewed as one of the better free programs and a great free alternative to photoshop. i used it before i switched to procreate and yes it was very good!
photoshop will still always be the industry standard though, but if you're a hobbyist that doesn't matter much

it's hard to tell from this stance because in order to hold this position, he needs to have one of his legs forward (as he does in your reference). In this position, it looks like he's about to topple over, so the muscles would be strained and awkward to reflect this. This one does look better than the first knee one you posted though.

When you look at other bipedal animals, the hip usually lines up with the foot in a straight downward line. Otherwise you end up with a loon that can't really walk and is only meant to be a torpedo in the water

Round it out a bit more or shorten the length.

Round your knee more or add more muscle mass to the top area

Think of the skeleton first, then build the muscles under it. If there's no muscles there, they can't bring their legs forward faster when running

Typing skeletal after a dinosaurs name brings up good results for bones and sometimes muscles. For example in google images “tenontosaurus skeletal”

right now where the chest connects to the arms/shoulders looks a little strange because its all kind of melting together. I think adding definition where the arm should be removed from the chest would help the front view of the chest look just a little better. the arms from the side view look great and I think working on the sculpt having it face you could help a little with fixing where the anatomy looks a bit off. overall the sculpt is looking great so far keep up the good work!

I think you're making the legs a little too short in comparison to the length of the torso. Using the Vitruvean Man by Leonardo DaVinci could help, but usually I just go by the head rule.

Generally, the body is about 7-8 times the length of the head (meaning however big you draw your head, you need 7-8 more heads of space for the rest of the body), the legs are 4×, the torso is 3×, etc.

Also, really simple tip, but keeping common proportions in mind is harder than you think but will reward you well. For example, fingertips fall (generally) at about the halfway point on your thigh. You were almost there with the first one, but I feel like you forgot to pay attention to that relationship on the middle one. Best of luck with your artistic journey!

Do you guys have any tips on making your main center of focus, like a dinosaur or figure in general actually fit into the background and just doing backgrounds in general? I wanted to do a whole scene with this but just could not make it work and even now it just feels off.

mine are pretty exaggerated but contrast and a color palette. Maybe make the center of focus a different color to stand out from the background, and dont use too many colors for the background or else you may not know what to focus on.

this might just be perspective, but those wings look very thick

Pterosaur wings are very thin things top to bottom, especially near the end of the wing finger. Besides that, the beak should be longer and taller on the top than the bottom. The overall body shape is recognizeable a Quetz tho, so it's pretty solid

the fur shader you are using for the pycnofibers [or ptero fuzz] (or feathers) might be a bit on the long side as well, but that could just be stylization

The long feathers do give it a neat shaggy look, only thing I'd change on em, given they are intentionally that long, is to potentially make them thinner on the wing

you generally want to avoid drag, so areas like here would probably have more form fitting feathers to reduce drag

I'm looking to get back into drawing dinosaurs again, and this would be the perfect place to start. Do I have any references to show you guys? No, I have lots of other art that isn't dinosaurs but I don't think that I'm allowed to post that type of art here.

So for the next 24hrs I will have 3 dinosaur headshots available, the chance of them being rendered is about 70%. I will not do any humanoid or anthropomorphic dinosaurs, I would like them to be full on dinosaur so I could post them in #isle-fan-art, I'd like to show off my art here, but since I do not have any dinosaur art, I have nothing to post, (however I have drawn dinosaurs in the past, just nothing is saved.) Hence why I am doing this. If you need examples of my art, I can show you in DMs.

I personally think ptera stam is fine, the only problem I have is the night vision, but thats about it

they could shorten the stam regen time by like 30 seconds and I think that'll be perfect along with better night vision

its easy to travel across the map and still have a ton of stam left, just start flying from a high point and dont sprint fly

I've never flown with a shift, actually. But most of my chicks die in childhood because they appear in the field at night with an empty stomach. By the time I reach the water without a sprint, I'm starving. With it - I'm dying on the ground next to the water\ drowning in the river without stam xD

You can use eyebrows on a dinosaur, especially if you make it semi cartoony. You can also focus on the eyelid and mouth shape if you don’t want to give them eyebrows.
