CITY - CITIZENSHIP - OUTSIDERS

"A quote posed as a question regarding what the city will regarding this topic?"

Two-tier residency| [DRAFT] | tradition

"In order to foster a sense of civic duty, two tiers of residency will be established - citizens, and residents. Residents will be barred from enjoying some city privileges, and will be deprioritised from the remainder. New arrivals will be classified as residents, and in order to become citizens they will be required to go through a period of heightened community service duties, and mandatory integration programmes along with other duties."

  • Increases the effectiveness of community service
By making citizenship something greatly preferable to regular residency, newcomers will be incentivised to take up the pathway to citizenship, thus providing a pool of those who will take up more duties.
  • Tension increases slightly, turning into a decrease overtime
Whilst this system of unequal treatment might cause some discontent from the newcomers at the beginning, overtime this will settle into a greater-integrated society.
  • Population growth increases slightly
While all outsiders will be allowed to enter the city, the downside of either being a resident or having to go through the citizenship process will inevitably make some newcomers decide not to settle in the city instead.

shouldnt that be 'decreases population growth'

wind ice
#

I made it the same as Admit Productive Outsiders

#

but I suppose it could just be a neutral effect

rain moss
#

oh riiight gotcha

#

i do think it deserves a negative since the tension goes to a positive overtime

wind ice
#

decided to just make it neutral

rain moss
#

that or increasing the base tension

#

since it goes down as time goes on

cosmic bison
rain moss
#

true true

#

yea it does make sense when compared to the overall laws, i was just accidentally taking it at its own value

#

you could keep the increase but add a " all outsiders are still allowed" kinda thing to make it clearer

cosmic bison
#

Though I somewhat feel It's more a merit law still
tradition one would demand to work for free in exchange to becoming a citizen after some time

wind ice
#

Oh yeah that is the intention of it

#

I'll restore the slight increase

rain moss
wind ice
cosmic bison
wind ice
#

newcomers have to take on additional community service, get integration courses, etc

#

if they want to do the citizenship

cosmic bison
#

I see no problem in it. Might have consequences, but what doesn't

wind ice
#

many such cases

rain moss
#

outside of that, Eve would be pissed if she saw a law like this being floated

#

she's a frostlander citizen after all, and one that can barely work to boot

cosmic bison
rain moss
#

ah, makes sense

wind ice
#

it would be cool but I don't think we've seen any yet

#

best we've got is different zeitgeist 'outlooks' of factions/organisations I think

rain moss
#

well the DLC and multi-zeitgeist law idea is recent, so i dont expect them to crop up until quite a bit of time has passed

#

would be cool to see the technocrats (and future factions) come up with dedicated multi zeitgeist laws in the future

urban venture
wind ice
#

it turns into a decrease

urban venture
#

I wrote deacrease in the second sentence... thanks autocorrect

rain moss
#

honestly i feel like it should probably be a flat increase, since newcomers are always coming in (even if in small numbers)

urban venture
rain moss
#

and there would definitely be a lingering resentment for some ex-residents even if they become citizens

urban venture
#

Besides, even if you get a better tier, that doesn't automatically makes you like the system

#

I also belive that this law is more merit based rather then tradition based

rain moss
urban venture
#

I get it that you want to add a lot of "integration" into that, but if you take out just one thing - and that's "mandatory integration programes" - and it's just pure merit

mortal yew
rain moss
#

ah, nvm then

#

still excited to see more

mortal yew
#

Very glad to hear! We have over 400+ laws so hopefully they're at least interesting to look at

#

-# me and Shackley have issues with adding laws

mortal yew
#

-# its not an addiction, we swear

urban venture
#

Hoooooly shit

wind ice
mortal yew
#

I will not comment on that at this time.

Frost Radio is my dream FP2, and that means a lot of nuanced content

#

-# the court system, private companies, workplace safety, conscription, diplomacy, you name it, we have it (most of the time)

wind ice
#

ew, private companies

mortal yew
wind ice
#

so much win

wind ice
#

glad that my schizoid rant/argument from yesterday resulted in something

mortal yew
#

City - Citizenship - Newcomers Integration

rain moss
#

we should make rounds 3 laws per so we can pass more laws clueless

mortal yew
#

"How will the approved newcomers be integrated into our city's society"

mortal yew
rain moss
#

great googly moogly

mortal yew
#

I think the average law per topic is 3

wind ice
cosmic bison
mortal yew
#

a single pair, (P v A for example) with an additional middle person (random zeitgeist)

Though there is a sizable amount which range from 4-6 due to zeitgiest combos

#

and then there are the laws that underwent the Mere-Weaze GMVC effect

#

and have over 7

mortal yew

cosmic bison
mortal yew
#

aye, we have tried to abstain from adding more

#

now its me going back over, adding more notes, and sometimes redesigning the topic/laws

cosmic bison
mortal yew
#

realized that this is essentially "How will natrualization be handled" topic

#

love it

#1449343208512426056 Concept redesigned into: Newcomer Residency

#

typing for a bit there, Vin

lucid grove
#

-# I wrote the tradition version thinking of a specific branch to the factions, not that i expect those to happen.

mortal yew
#

Well, both concepts were heavily workshopped

#

specially that reason one lol

lucid grove
#

Lol

#

I guessed as much

#

Weird how the dlc had those culture laws, that were somewhat very similar to the topic

wind ice

-# good game design i guess
