#Artemis I Mission

i wish
i want 4 SLS's per year
roll them out like they starship prototypes
i mean 2 would be good, one crew SLS and one cargo SLS
SLS block 1 cargo
crew SLS for, well, crew
cargo SLS (block 1b or 2 ofc) for expanding a lunar base or expanding gateway or even way down the line, sending cargo to Mars.
Ah then it’s more a fixed production timeline
three years per core no matter how many cores we’re doing, yeah?
do you reckon we will get an SLS per year?
Maybe
Not now
Maybe like 2027
2028 is when they start ramping up
Launching Artemis IV then Artemis V
Yeah, I’d put it a couple years after Artemis iii
So could this thread just be changed to "Artemis Program" or something now?
And renamed again whenever Artemis II launches I guess
I'd want that
Me too
@final arch
Yep?
Vanessa Wyche, director of Johnson Space Center, says the current plan is to name the crew of Artemis II in early 2023.

How in the world hasn’t this been sent here yet lmao, nearly 24 hours now
🤷♀️
We will leave it as it is since there are still many things and news from Artemis I to be discussed and soon I will create the one for Artemis II, before the announcement of the crew.
Makes sense
canada balls?
I believe the announcement will be after the Core Stage arrives at KSC.
I mean, it would be incredible if the crew announces themselves and behind them is the Core Stage II and the Orion ship from Artemis I.
i do think having a generalized artemis channel or forum might be good, similar to the starship testing one. seperate from the actual A2 mission thread.
Great idea

NASA’s Sean Fuller says at the Artemis Accords event that NASA is in “active negotiations” with a potential new partner to contribute an airlock module for the lunar Gateway, hope to announce something in a “handful of months.”
163
Maybe… JAXA
North Korean Airlock Module
Brazil
Real
Well….
It looks like it could be 🇦🇪
"women not allowed in the airlock"
Well
It'll definitely be Italy
I can't see another Artemis country working on the airlock other than Italy
Japan
Thank god
The Artemis program is becoming too woke
No woman has ever been an astronaut
damn i love this post
Check the list of forums 👀
Why does there need to be two different forums channels when there's basically nothing happening
Cope
Just rename this one Artemis Program and delete the other one
W orion in port
This forum will be closed soon
But it will be saved
What's the point?
We have a Starship Testing and Starlink Launches thread for long term / ongoing things
Shouldn't there just be one Artemis Program one
It will be a while between Artemis I and II, so the Artemis stuff will be discussed in the new forum.
If one forum for all issues, that's what the new forum is for.
it really feels like KSP
ayooo the cropping
oh well
ploopy
Not confirmed
UAE airlock?
Correct but it's plausible and not Italy
NASA's Orion capsule has arrived at the San Diego Naval Station aboard the USS Portland after the Artemis I mission around the moon.

Can't wait to see UAE contracts Thales to build it

holy shit Orion did the thing
Artemis 1 completed its mission with 0 issues
Incredibly impressive
@long flume you're insulting the SLS???
I'll have you know my dad works for the ULA
no one insults sls
And he can drop an Antares on your neighborhood!!!
That sucks. My condolences
What was that verse in the bible
During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.
Same applies to SLS
Anne McClain doubly disallowed for being a gay woman
I thought McClain probably wasn't gonna fly again because of the tax fraud accusation thing?
I'm aware it was false but they still don't usually fly astronauts who have been in major controversies again do they
it would be fair to punish her for having a crazy ex
ye
It wouldn't, but I was under the impression NASA astronauts could get grounded for sneezing in the wrong direction
True
i doubt the rest of the corps would be happy
Yeah
that’s a really nasty precedent
Glad to be wrong then
SLS the best

We are going!

Pic’s, pic’s and pic’s
last message SLS is so slay
last message, Artemis in general is cool, SLS does not need to be a part of it
Yes, Reaver #3
Miranda when SLS is currently the only vehicle capable of sending Orion, the only human rated deep space capable spacecraft to lunar orbit
yeah but it’s not like it’s that way because it’s the best solution
Never said that?
no but bringing up SLS and Orion’s sole capability is typically done to defend their inclusion rather than show the problem they raise
and you’re doing it here too
I don’t really agree with Miranda that SLS doesn’t need to be a part of Artemis though, there’s no program without pork.
My point is that the way it was crafted, SLS has to happen
we can criticize the thought proceess behind the whole ops
but that ship sailed over a decade ago
and to no ones surprise SLS launches before Starship
if you cut it now, you just leave NASA without a lunar capable spacecraft and rocket and no alternative to replace it
things can still change that haven’t already happened
just because things are the way they are doesn’t mean they have to be forever
Criticising the way things are set up is important to changing them, if you wanted to do that. It’s not pointless at all.
nope never said that
then why say this?
because the sentiment behind such statements is to usually gut sls without an alternative solution
i think y'all take this too seriously anyways
we don't have a say in any of this so I'm just glad its happening at all
and i enjoy the cool pics

Nah, I don’t think so. There are plenty of proposals for alternate solutions, and there’s no technical reason those couldn’t be developed while scaling back SLS work.
yes: money
I believe most who would make such a statement would advocate for an alternative solution rather than not to have anything filling that lunar taxi role
that’s not a technical reason, it’s why I specified in the first place.
That’s a political reason
and politically I do think SLS is necessary to keep Artemis going
It was supposed to launch before FH
and FH was supposed to launch in 2013
I looooooove the mega moon rocket frfr on god

Honestly if they stuck to block 1 they might have been able to
Following the successful splashdown of the #Artemis I mission, @NASAGroundSys teams have successfully removed @NASA_Orion from the USS Portland.
Engineers will conduct initial inspections before transporting the spacecraft back to @NASAKennedy. https://t.co/U6l9HMkgGJ
welcome back 🙂
it's been 1 month since SLS launch 💀

*"Oh Artemis I, our shining star
Your Orion craft, so bright and far
You've journeyed to the moon and back
A feat that leaves us in awe
Your engines roar, your engines flame
You defy the odds and stake your claim
To the stars, to the moon, to the sky
You show us all what we can try
Oh, Artemis I, our lunar love
You soar above and rise above
The limits of what we thought we knew
You show us all the world anew
Your noble mission, your valiant flight
Inspires us all with your might
To explore, to learn, to grow
To take a step, to take a bow
So here's a love poem, just for you
For all the things you've dared to do
You are the pride of NASA's fleet
You are the heartbeat of our human feat."*
I asked an AI to write a love letter to Artemis I

oron
Orion ain’t just a sock yknow
It’s more like harvesting components than reusing a spacecraft
Organ donation
The 27 month gap between A1 and A2 has more to do with going though all the data from A1 with a fine tooth comb and making sure it matches predictions than reuse of certin components
Add in other factors like astronaut training and well... budget and that's how you get that number
You don't rush super heavy launch vehicle development or testing
Hopefully it still launches like planned in 2024
There is this base assumption that it's going to happen in 2025 but honestly I still think 2024 seems likely
Yet again there is this base assumption that Starship is always two milliseconds away from orbital flight
oops
Starships Hls has nothing to do with A2
Other than the fact they are both apart of the Artemis Program
it'll be ready and tested for Artemis III in 2027
A3 is going to be delayed till 2026/2027 no matter what
yeah, plenty of time to work out HLS
HLS engines were apparently being tested i heard
Hot gas-gas, I wouldn't be surprised if they're raptor preburner derived
ohh i see

Orion isn't really the thing holding up AII

Yes, I have several, let me look for them
I have about 10 videos, do you want me to pass you the direct link to the videos, or the link to the publication where you see the video but there is also information about what the video is about?
Well, I'll take advantage of it and leave the videos posted.

Well, I leave several videos of the launch of Artemis I in case you want to see them later or need them, I leave the link, the name (to give you an idea of what is and the duration)

📍The @NASA_Orion spacecraft has returned to Kennedy!
Next steps? Orion will be delivered to the Multi-Payload Processing Facility where payloads and the heat shield will be removed for analysis.

bro why'd they build a sarcophagus
environmental control
NO PIC’S

Inspections are underway 🔍
@NASAKennedy technicians are conducting inspections of @NASA_Orion’s heatshield, which experienced temperatures near 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit as the capsule faced its biggest challenge—reentering the Earth’s atmosphere. https://t.co/la1TbYT6hn
mmm
what the h
Artemis I is completed
yup
