So, usually the second map of the year comes out on December 7th ... recently they've been dropping the announcement trailer (teaser) about a month before the release, so if that continues, the announcement should be on either November 7 or latest November 14th. Starting next week's live stream, expect for Jaxy dropping the hints. I swear, it better be this map, this post was active ALL of 2023!

It's still very early and the previous update does not seem to have introduced general changes that serve as clues for an upcoming map...
If I had to guess based on updates to date I would say that the map below is one of Europe, since there were changes to the Hirschfelden animals that were (apparently) used as a model for the Australian animals.

Personally I want it to be the Arctic but I suppose a European map like France or UK wouldn't bother me since they were always on the list of "possible maps" in every survey

Fallow Deer and Red Deer received new fur and (Apparently) the Australian animals are reskin of Roe Deer, Fallow Deer/Red Deer, Bison and Canada Goose, they have the same movements and behavior and from time to time they make a call that corresponds to one of them

I agree with you I can't wait to play this map. However I will be shocked if we get this in December with how big of an update we just had with Emerald Coast. I'm thinking more likely for June release for this amazing map. It has 15 new species so that is a ton of work. If we was to get a certain British Columbia map with a Great One Elk first that number could drop to 12 new species and be less work for the Devs to do by June. Just saying 🤣😂🤣

If we get a proper Asian map there is a good chance it is going to be Central Asia simply due to the Argali sheep being iconic, plus depending on where in Central Asia it winds up being we could either get Urial/Markhor (Tajikistan) or Wapiti/Gazelles (Mongolia) alongside wolves, chukars, marmots, wild boar and snowcocks

Since the last update, I have noticed changes in the sound of the wind inside the structures, lodge and tents, the sound has increased and improved, can anyone confirm this?
I want to rule out that it is not just a detail of the FxSound Booster program

The sound of the wind at the top of the Medved Taiga lookout points is also not excessive as before and you can hear from which direction the wind is blowing through the headphones xD

The current dog is great, it gives a touch of extra difficulty to the game (Because his steps make noise and you must learn to differentiate them from those of other animals and he constantly needs commands and to keep him sitting to hear other steps) and a touch of ease to stalk animals and find them after shooting them down, sometimes when I am on my way to pick up an animal and I shoot another I lose the trail but the dog He finds it again for me, or he goes straight to the prey, it's great

I contributed to the whiterime ridge wilderness suggestion which has over 1000 comments and 300 likes I just wanted to update my contribution a bit, and hopefully make this a bit better

Reserve & story: Seen in photos above the reserve could be really beautiful. Northern lights, pine forests, mountains with big valleys and grass. All would make for interesting gameplay and look really nice as well. There is really good room for story, especially involving indigenous people hunting seal being a very important part of their lifestyle. The hunter could hunt to give food to locals, and help out with missing hunters and more.

Species: My personal favourite species are ones that are unique gameplay and/or visually. These following species all are visually interesting, or have some interesting gameplay mechanics to them.

New species, brackets show interesting elements to species: (Bold is species I heard people in community especially want)** Arctic wolf**, **arctic hare (Will hide when spooked, hunter will have to look carefully),**snow goose, Canadian lynx, tundra swan, ringed seal (Dives in water when spooked, similar to alligators), arctic fox (when feeding they dive headfirst into snow to catch lemmings), Snowy owl, Dall sheep, polar bear, and Canadian Musk Ox

Old species which would fit: (Ones in bold are especially liked in community) Moose, Gray wolves, bison, red fox, elk, bighorn ram (maybe), caribou/reindeer

So overall, the map could be very visually interesting and beautiful, there are many amazing old and new unique species options which I have heard would be wanted among the community, and there is great possibility for a relevant and interesting story. I would be really interested in seeing this come to life and on this page I can see multiple other people talking about wanting a reserve similar to this as well. I think it would be something me and the community as a whole would appreciate. Thanks!

It would be unlikely Snow Leopard gets added. While they are listed as Vunerable on the ICUN Redlist, they are protected in all countries they live in (Mongolia used to allow for Snow Leopard to be hunted but that was well over 40 years at this point and snow leopard hunting in Kyrgyzstan has been prohibited since the 50s)

The only reason the "Whiterime" area on the map is so detailed is because I took a screenshot of the map while on a different reserve in Classic then inserted it onto the piece, shrunk it down till it fit in a corner, edited it a bit and worked off from their. Also just realized that #1184642607196946482 is going to be very necessary if we get both the Barren-ground Caribou (The Caribou from Yukon Valley) and Woodland Caribou given their physical differences (Woodland apparently have longer heads and legs then Barren-ground and are just generaly the bigger caribou).

Yes woodlands are more slender but weigh way less also genetically their racks don't flare out laterally as much they tend to stay directly in line with their skull not exactly but there's a noticable difference

I have heard that woodland caribou were always the heavier ones but that barren-grounds had the larger antlers, then again I live in a part of Canada that caribou no longer live in

Dam that sucks we.got boreal forest caribou like a hour north of where I'm at definitively and compared to the Newfie caribou they are more large in terms of height but they aren't filled out as much and as mentioned the antlers are different which i guess makes more sense as they are bobbing and weaving between pines and spruce and balsam trees

The closest herds to my area all live in Jasper National Park and they are all Mountain Caribou

Ah I'm in the Nipissing district of Ontario and they are found for sure around cobalt Ontario but you can find them more south than that but it's considered out of the natural range

I’m looking at Caribou herds for my province (Alberta) and most of our caribou are Woodland (12 herds), it just happens to be that the herds closest to where I am are Mountain Caribou (5 herds in total)

And Caribou did historically live in places like Minnesota and Maine

I think Polar Bears should be the first animal added to the game that tracks down and attempts to actively hunt the player. The wolves sort of do that currently but only as an alternative to spooking.

Imagine how terrifying it would be to accidentally get upwind of a massive Polar Bear, see it stand up on its hind legs and sniff the air, and then it starts to slowly stalk closer and closer to you before charging in at in you in hopes of making you its next meal. Not many things in this game give me goosebumps, but that definitely would.

Long story short a couple dozen polar bears showed up and started jacking people up even breaking into some homes. Then there was a winter storm so power went out so they eventually had to call the army in to evac people and kill a few bears so polar bears hunting people would have to be in the game if they are added

I’m not entirely dismissing maps because of a single species, as long as a White-tail or Red Deer map introduces a good amount of new species I can look past it

Emerald Coast might have Red Deer but all the brand new species meant I could look past it

When I hunt on Cuatro I mainly target Ibex, Mouflon and Wolf

Mississippi has white-tails yet I look at it as the Alligator Map

Revontouli has white-tail yet also has some awesome bird hunting on it, especially with friends

Te Awaroa has a good number of species on it that I like to hunt like Sika Deer and Feral Goat, and its a fun map to hunt with friends

And I wouldn’t be entirely opposed to a UK map if it focused on Small Game and Birds

Plus a map with Tropical White-tail like Mexico or somewhere in South America would be worth it

As of right now, I think the next map will be either Arctic or Asia since that's what the signs so far are pointing toward. I don't think they would give us Africa 2.0 when Australia (a very highly requested one) was the last new map we got. I also don't think they'd give us another U.S. or Europe map again since Revontuli and NEM were in those particular regions of the globe, so it really doesn't make sense to revisit those two again so soon. Or maybe they'll throw us a curve ball somehow.

Personally I won't complain either way as long as we get a new map with some new animals on it.

If this is the next map coming to the game could a reason why it’s been taking so long because they are introducing swimming mechanics to large mammals, just to think on it seals, walrus and polar bears have to swim to navigate across the arctic ocean so could they be trying to implement this into the game and other species such as moose and water buffalo.

I will not be adding Sitka Deer, they are pretty exclusive to the Pacific Northwest of Alaska (Alexander Archipelago, Kodiak, Prince William Sound) and British Columbia (North & Central Coast & Haida Gwaii Archipelago)

Plus I always thought it was a bit weird that Sitka Deer were added to such a cold and rather open map in Classic given that they prefer more dense temperate rainforest

I’m not sure if this has been talked about but: I can’t find a picture, typically when people go seal/walrus hunting,they will put a white sheet infront of their boat to make the seals think it’s a sheet of ice floating,perhaps boats would make for a great addition on this map.

If this was the new map do you guys think we would get wolverine (Yukon revontuli) snowshoe ( Nem Yukon) hare dall sheep (Yukon) and beavers (not sure) backfilled.

Beavers could easily fit on Layton, Yukon and funny enough, Revontouli and Parque
• A population of American Beavers were introduced to Finland in 1937
• American Beavers are also highly invasive to Tierra del Fuego, which affects the Southern Beech Tree, a genus of tree already present in both Tierra del Fuego & Parque Fernando

Wolverines would also fit better on Medved then Revontouli

Australia is still a great map, but acting like it did something revolutionary compared to something like revontuli and Mississippi is not true.

It was certainly nice to move away from Europe and the Americasz. And of course Bantangs and buffalo are diffrent species, however they are still pretty similar in game big cow like things. Kangaroo was cool to see, but camals would have helped with a more fresh roster

We currently only have one map in South America and none in Central America. Personally I'd argue that the polar and tropical regions of the Americas each deserve to get a new map, just as much as Asia or Africa do.

We have a Yukon map, and in total 6 maps in the North American region alone.

Yukon Valley is more based on interior Alaska than the actual Yukon, and is more boreal forest/taiga than actual tundra. A proper arctic tundra map is still missing, and I think that is why so many people are wanting a Canadian Arctic map (myself included).

Honestly, if the next two maps we get are Canadian Arctic followed by any tropical map (since EC was the very first one), I will be just as happy as a pig in mud. Maybe that's only my perspective, but I don't think it is.

Yeah it's called the Grind they essentially round up a large group of smaller whales and then push them into a harbour or small fjord almost and then kill them I don't really know exactly how they do it

Yea one day they killed 2200 whales I think mostly bottlenose dolphins snd pilot whales I have seen both of them close up in the sea but have not good pictures, this is the best I have

Another missing region is the Southern Coastal Plains/Highland Flatwoods of northern Florida, a completely different landscape from the rest of the maps we currently have in the game.

Story time:

I was working in the mines in Nunavut and our miner camp was a bunch of small wooden shacks with minimum insolation and in the winter we were given a small heater for our shack.

In peak winter the temperature was around -40°C and always a whiteout with snow this, we had to shovel the front of the shack door every 10 mins so the snow wouldn't trap us inside. Nonetheless one day we saw fresh polar bear snacks not 10 feet away from our shack during a rare clear sky day. The very next day a guy from a different shack went outside to shovel and got jacked by a polar bear

Because when you add up the number of African map suggestions, Africa was always the most popular ask by a long stretch. Consolidating all those ideas behind one Africa idea (the Big 5) demonstrated that what people really wanted is the biggest African game and they don't care where in Africa that lands up being placed.

I think the biggest problem is the fact that COTW doesn't do subspecies at all take Whitetail Deer for example they have multiple different subspecies with clear differences or sometimes smaller differences but they're always the same damn animal Whitetail Deer in Washington or Maine or New Hampshire are very different from Whitetail Deer in Mexico

I agree man they need more love in which I propose a 2 step change

1. Lower the amount of trolls that occur

2. Make the average rack on bulls larger on average (medium size) for level 2-3 bulls as well should not have near as much differential in the atypical racks looking different sure but some look super far off from the other (diamond rack on one side but a small LVL 4 rack on the other)

Also some new maps with good lines of sight should be fun to see them grazing and herding up

Hence why @orchid nebula's proposal for reindeer being added is also good as it offers better lines of sight this better hunting for them as well

I feel like they could replace some moose spawns in Yukon's Tundra and get a few more good open ground places. Caribou do travel the tundra and Moose much prefer river bottoms and wetlands so the spawns on Yukon are a little weird. Besides, there should just be more caribou than moose in general on any given map, at least where they overlap
