Mel I had my herds constantly moving around the map. I would clear a lake after a week of no spawns thinking it had moved on to another spot as they sorta do then I go back again and they are there. That GO I got was at a lake I hadnt been back to for a week as I hadnt had a moose zone there for about a month but today I was going over every single zone as nothing was spawning it seemed.

The amount of times had to pack up and move my damn tents I was going insane. Then finding out they could drink in the centre of the Mir crater added another 1 lol

On average it seems a great one spawns every 2000 kills for me

Whitetail are easiest and the most fun, then moose, then red deer but it depends on your personal preference
