To be able to “claim” the open air shelter camp sites, you must get close to the fireplace. This is not obvious if you have POI icons turned OFF, and thus do not have a hut icon (hovering over the fire). It took me a good long while, before it dawned on me.

Hey, quite new, lvl 18 currently, wondering if there is a gun like the 7mm, that holds more than 1 bullet? I’m open to getting DLC

there is no gun like the 7mm in terms of the breadth of classes it shoots, but there are better guns than the 7mm for 7-9 animals if that helps. Best in slot is the .300 Canning Magnum which comes with the Yukon map

and for 4-8 classes the favorites would be the M-1 from Smoking Barrels DLC (my personal fav) or the new .308 in modern rifles DLC

That's tough to cover with one gun. Most guns which can do class 1s (other than shotguns) don't do anything else. The .22H Kullman can do 1-2. The .243 Ranger default weapon is probably BIS for 2-3

If I'm out hunting class 1s usually have to carry inventory dedicated to them. Other than a bow which can cover all classes which I carry all the time just in case. usually I will carry nothing for Class 1s and focus the other classes

It’s based on the trophy rating range, at least from what I was able to derive myself. So take this with a grain of salt

Let’s take mtn lions as an example

Minimum is 30, silver is 32, gold is 36, diamond is 39, max is 40

So you're taking the difference from the max TR and min TR, and of that range add a certain ammount of %

so 40-30 is 10. and 32-30 is 2. 2/10 are 20%. And 20% and above is silber.

Basically yeah. This is also where we get the commonly quoted “1% of animals have a diamond trophy rating” thing. If we assume trophy ratings are normally distributed, and the entire trophy rating range is 3 standard deviations (with the mean being the middle of the trophy rating range), then diamond scoring trophy ratings are about 2.4 standard deviations above mean, or roughly the 99th percentile.

Probably took me 9 months or so before I got my first diamond. You have to start to do all the hunting stuff that isn't the shooting without thinking about it. You also need to have built up a stack of money so that if you see something decent but not a diamond, you can feel OK about walking on by. After that, you've got more bandwidth for learning what trophy scores and weights make diamond and you'll find you cover more ground, faster. Last tip: mountain lions or pumas (or predators in general - high-level predators seem to be more common). Pick one and go at them relentlessly. My first one was a puma. I set up tents and stands at my 5 best drinking zones on Parque and in 3 evenings, I found one. I still remember it like it was yesterday - a 228m shot across the lake with the caplock for a double lung. There's still a picture of the harvest screen on the wall in my study... Good luck! 😊

They require lead, much as they would in real life. The only thing you can do is practice, but I'm regularly taking down ducks at 50-70m (and sometimes out to 100) with the 16 gauge now I've got the hang of it. Unlike real life, one pellet, anywhere, will kill them. You need a lot of lead though - I'm talking 0.5 sec for the shot to get there sorta distance. But it's probably the most fun I've ever had on COTW. Oh and I'm only using callers to get them near-ish, not decoys.

You can follow tracks much easier which is useful if the animal is running in a circle or something, but the dog can spook animals

If you make it lay down it won't though unless they're on top of it

Basically the dog will track animals you've shot for you so you don't have to do anything

bows in general require skill but the recurve takes TONS of patience and practice to get a accurate shot- there is a guide on how to be more accurate with the recurve but i dont remember what channel it was from
