Medved has probably more locations to find them at but is also nearly completely shoreline that you can walk 300 yards away from and spot all the way along and mostly ponds and small lakes

I’m still opening up areas of Mississippi and I have seen plenty of alligators in the water at night but I have yet to see one on the banks basking in the morning sun. I expected to see 1-2 here, 2-3 there but nada so far.

Am I just not in the right spots? I have gone to the places I’ve spotted them at night and there’s none to be found in the morning.

12-20 is a good time to hunt since that’s got whitetail drink time from 12-16 and blacktail drink time from 16-20.
You may wanna start a bit later than 12:00 tho to give the animals time to migrate to their drink zones. I usually recommend an hour or an hour and a half into the zone time

That said, recovering teekon forest, 0700-1500 where they rest all over the place. Don't bother wih night hunting - much slower. Also, chase them. Try to follow them out of the need zones and pick them off. It's somewhat faster than travelling between tents, although the risk is obv that you shoot them too close together and lose the zone.

Is it normal getting spotted by the animals by more than 300m away when crouch walking and lots of bush blocking the animals sight?

As an example on vurhonga I got a notification of a scrub hare detecting me when I was more than 300m away and I was crouch walking with lots of bush blocking my and the hares line of sight.
And wildebeest/all the animals are seeing me when I'm crouch walking and covered by more than 100m or more of thick bush. I don't remember the animals being this skittish before or am I doing something wrong.

Hey guys is anyone willing to explain the “zero in” skill? Sadly I’ve never hunted before and I can’t wrap my head around what it actually does…? Say a whitetail is 100 yards out…you set it to zero in on 50 yards then hold the sight on the 1st dot just below the crosshairs?

Its essentially adjusting the scope. So if you zero a gun for 150 meters. You'll be able to hit an animal at 150 using the middle of that crosshair

best thing to do is to go the rifle range on Hirschfelden and practice with it at various distances. Generally if you are with in 50 meters of what the zeroing is set for, you'll be fine unless it is a really small animal

yes, it works for all weapons. Bows are a bit more problematic as the heaver arrows can make things work in ways you don't expect, and wind can be a factor

I find with bows, it is best to be within 50 meters at the most, and pref. less

Regarding say the photo missions in Hirschfelden there's some talk over att the steam forums and reddit saying that these have been made easier. The first one where one must photograph a fallow deer didn't seem to complete even when I had a deer fill the frame regardless if zoomed in or fully out (middle of a fleeing herd so tried to avoid getting trampled). Finally zoomed in on a solitary grazing buck and managed to tick it off.

As for the save the cornfields mission, before I remembered one had to travel to the location and harvest the animal in question when at the location. Now I got the second fallow deer that ran off (left the mission location) but was shot in the vitals when at the Petershein cornfields so even though it was harvested outside the zone apparently this will satisfy the mission requirements (can it be now than one only need to get to a location like say the later Red Deer canyon mission and then can harvest anywhere?).

Any tips for the current state of the the "Deer and the Sea" mission? Photo-op of a fallow deer with Königsberg lake in the background?

So kinda new to COTW, I found some european rabbit burrows. Do they work like the ones in Classic? Where the rabbits will run back and hide in their burrows when scared and eventually pop back out? I have a tree stand set up watching them from fairly close, do I need to move a bit away with the treestand or just wait? (There's no rabbit tracks around the burrows, but it does say the burrows were used very recently... I shot a fallow nearby then found them.)

They have set times they will pop out, I think one of them is 9, if they go back in they will pop out again within 5 mins

General question, I’ve played the game off and on since it’s release, and I have yet to harvest a diamond rated animal of any species. Is there a way to improve my chances outside of simply killing everything I see and hoping for a respawn? Please @ me or respond directly so I can get a notification. Thx!!!

I've been playing a year and just got my first diamond today. I recommend choosing a species and farming their need zones. Kill the males for most species. I got mine at a feeding zone today after 5 days of grinding for it

furthermore since an update last year they'll scoot back to the burrow when spooked or attacked, before they'd just linger or take off in random directions. Now it's a lot harder to get more than one or a few as they all "return to base" when in danger

Can confirm that the mission to photograph fallow deer with the body of water in the background has been simplified, got a herd drinking at the shore and photographed from afar, at first did a voice track state something along the lines of "sorry but you need to get closer than than, dont shoot the messenger please" and immidiately after then the voice line saying that the mission was completed played.

Noticed later on that after the side mission Jäger4 (photograph fallow deer within 50m) it the the following mission Jäger5 is unlocked and makes a reference to the missing boy Erik (a main mission) even though it might be incomplete

Means that no animal has used it recently

There’s a zone, but until whichever animal sleeps there, no particles will show up

The animal rest zone doesn’t have to be exactly under the icon, it may be nearby. Try searching.

If you are on PC, there’s a file that you can edit to reset all the missions. I am not sure how or what exactly you need to do, but it is possible

It's ultimately up to you, but unless you want people seeing you as a cheater, I'd just reset the missions.

Depends on where you are heading out though you are expirenced in cotw , you know that certian areas just dont have zones and animals so why check and he maybe like lets go look

listening for calls and looking for tracks is key when just wandering around. It’ll take some time but you will get to know the map better over time and get more experienced, and it’ll get easier the more experienced you are.

I’d recommend starting out wandering the east side of the reserve, that has more animals than the west, but when you feel comfortable enough to explore the west side then you should totally do it, but only when you feel you’re experienced enough.

I'm not sure how much animals i can kill one some purple area, and when i have to stop hunting there. I mean in some cases all special areas was killed inside the purple zone. So mostly i kill 1-3 and then going away from there until the purple zone is gone.

yeah, avoid killing any more than 3 animals at one spot, then animals will be less likely to want to move through those spots until the hunting pressure (as it’s called) goes away, and you get it to go away by creating hunting pressure elsewhere on the map
