They have the same amount of animals, it is just harder to find them on Hirschfelden, and lots of people haven’t put in the effort to find them so a myth that Hirschfelden has the least animals has emerged, but that myth could not be further from the truth.

The population is more spread out, but they are there and most of the animals blend into the environment so they are not as easy to spot compared to other reserves

ok - so on a related note - does the population reset for red deer in the recent update mean that all the need zones will have changed? I have this spot (see below) which is my go-to spot for red deer in Hirsch - always 20+ female red deer there 0500-0900 and 1700-2100, sometimes some males too, but I've checked for 3 game days running now and nothing, nada. They've vanished, so I'mnow increasingly annoyed by the mission "find 5 red deer tracks" as I thought that would be simple in this spot and there isn't a deer in sight...

(in fact, I haven't seen a red deer anywhere near the canyon since the update, come to think of it. Nearest one was roughly where it says "need zone" in the orange border, bottom-right of the SS)

All of the tracks from the animal you track will be the active color, even older tracks. You should be trying to look for the blood spots to track where it went after shooting it

This is one of the things the dog is best at, picking out the blood trail when there are a ton of tracks around

Heart and brain shots would be the best way to get it to drop instantly, though brain shots will destroy the skull, which is almost always a trophy organ, so don't do that on anything you care about keeping. Otherwise, you did good with getting a vital (lung, liver, and neck vertebrae in addition to heart/brain). The best thing is to use a bigger gun, though. Killing a class 4 with the 7mm will drop a lot faster than with the .243

If your hunting foxes and other small game I say yes, I use it all the time

it isn’t a waste of money if you like it and if you are good with it (it is probably the hardest rifle to be effective with in the game), and it only takes 6 Red Fox/Coyote then you have your money back, so not a total waste of money. But yeah unfortunately most people don’t seem to know that it is a good rifle.

Saving an animal keeps it available to taxidermy later, but you are limited in how many you can save (I think it's 10). If you save more than that, you'll start losing them. If you taxidermy them, they are permanently stored in your trophy manager. If you don't have a lodge, you can't do anything with them, but you can save them until you do get a lodge DLC

Anything placable can have a chance of getting that message

The 7mm is the next best weapon you can get early one and be able to take down big game like black bear and moose

When you see the geese flying use your binos to spot them to check if they're real. Sometimes you get fake geese flying by as decoration. If they're real use your goose caller to lure them over. Make sure you're in an open field and using lots of geese decoys. You can get the decoys from the goose dlc.

There is no fake geese. If there is a flock you can hunt them. To do that you need to break the flock. Usually it's easier if you have decoys put down. Basically then the flocks always land
