the base maps are good to start with. everyone will answer differently alot has to do with personal preference. there are some really fun small to medium game maps but if you are more interested in hunting exoctic animals there are maps that have that or if you are more interested in larger game like elk, moose, and bear there are maps for them too

i enjoy the kangroo hunting and stubble quail. emerald also has red deer and fallow dee and red fox if you are a great one chaser. emerald has a pretty good diverse species list with 14 total on map

Hello. Im fairly new to COTW and i have set up a great one grind for Mule Deer on Askiy Ridge. I only have around 9 mixed herds on my map, but most guides says that you should have 8 main herds and 8 exterior herds, but i only have 9? Is there something im missing. Please help 😄

Usually I’d suggest at least one diamond per zone. But, also, ya can test this for yourself lol
Just leave your stacked ones and go shoot some exteriors. See what they come back as. If they’re still coming back far too large, leave them alone and stack some more. Repeat until you see the results you want.

You’d know.

If you don’t notice anything “weird” and your game isn’t telling you it’s corrupted, then you’re likely fine.

If you start spawning a bunch of G1s out the wazoo in your singleplayer without trying, or every kill is a rare/diamond, etc, animals are constantly frozen, your level/stats are wildly abnormal, then it would be time to start worrying.

when you join a multiplayer session, first thing you do is check the player list, make sure no one is above level 60, watch the harvest list from the chat & make sure there’s not a lot of diamonds being claimed, if you see a ton of diamonds, rares or g1s get out of there.

Odd. Sounds like your save reverted but not really. Usually ya see that kinda bug when folks get corrupted data and/or mod. I don’t believe there’s a fix unfortunately, unless you can try to restore your cloud data

I'm gonna ask a stupid question, and I never ask (stupid) questions: would the pointer be useful in helping to find diamonds, specifically for upland birds and rabbits? The rabbits I can set up feeders for, so not a real big issue for that one, but these grouse, pheasants and ptarmigan are slow going trying to get them

Pointers def help in locating birds, but they don't affect what things respawn as, if that's what you're asking

They also don't prioritize higher levels. What the dog locks onto is basically random

it would be awesome if you could get pointers to point out higher leveled things but that is not the case currently. pointers when max leveled can be taught/trained to highlight what they are pointing. i have found this very useful my dog has highlighted many mountain loins and fox hiding in tall grass

you’re shooting animals too big for your weapon

if you’re using the .243, especially with soft points, the biggest animal you want to shoot is a class 4, anything bigger will take too long to die, even with a vital hit. unless it’s neck or heart

The weapons you get as a beginner aren't strong. You need to go for perfect shots and be weary of the animal class. The bullets you shoot must fit the animals you shoot. Moose for example are big game, at the beginning you don't have a weapon for big game.

My advice is: Go for deer drinking zones and try to get perfect shots. Save your money until you can buy the 7mm Rifle. And if you buy bullets, make sure you never buy the soft point bullets, those are trash

I can't tell you what not to buy, but I wouldn't go modern. Hunter's Choice has the best 7-9 gun in the game (.375), Pump Flip & Fire has the Frost .257 which is like a really good option for 2-6, probably the best for 2-4 and weapon pack one has the 22 Virant, 10 round class 1 gun.

Modern rifles 308 is okay, but 303 is slightly better, 223 is not very good and recoil may be better on 22 but you lose out on those 5 extra rounds. But do whatever you wish, DLC's on sale anyways lol

If you're just finding drink zones and not hunting, go at the end of drink time to make sure you get all of them that use it - you can place tents or ride ATVs, doesn't matter, just find those zones

Salzwiesen is great for ducks, try to scout out areas before hunting though and look for need areas

I’d suggest checking XCK’s maps. It’ll show you the better hotspots to call in ducks. Especially if you have the fox caller.

Depends if you’re wanting to get the dog to retrieve them or I think one of the dogs can flush birds as well.

The dog will only really retrieve out to about 100m.

Big thing is that if you’re going after any bird species is that you won’t get respawns until the whole flock is gone.

the score doesn’t change, the only way a score can be different based on score is on certain bird species that you need to shoot in air, otherwise it will have no score.

They do lol all animals have to. In their case they have “active” times which function as sort of their eating time. That’s usually when they come out of the burrows.

Is the high tech hunting pack good? I have the nv scope from cross air pack.

I know the NV can be a bit finicky in foggy condition. The only thing that I found interesting is the range finder bow scope. But for bow hunting I mainly use the crossbow since it have zoom.

most people just turn up the in game brightness and use the regular gear tho

Turning brightness up just makes everything bright and washed out as hell though doesn’t it?

With binoculars at least you can see more color difference and contrast

One is free to do but the other is more preferable imo provided you can afford it

Lol, the idea to turn up the brightness haven't occur to me, but I am currently using the nv from cross air pack to compensate for the lack of NV binoculars.

But from your experience the NV binoculars is a good QoL improvement for night hunting?

The bow sight is an interesting bonus for me.

There are exeptions. Thats why you need to look at what the ammo’s say for that weopon

But it’s good to double check the actual zone

Yeah. Picking up only takes more time. Thats why i didnt do it because i dont have that much time to play

And always can grind for red deer so i got money. So i will never run out of money that way. But if money is a problem you can do 1 run without picking up and 1 with picking up. So your money stays the same

To level 4. On the beginning its easier to spawn level 4s. You can always leave like 10 level 5s in the end. I have the same, and have a 1/10 dimerate and a 1/7 level 9 spawnrate
