does anybody know if the "herd management" technique works for species that dont have great ones? Because I wanna know if this works with helping get mutations and diamonds more often.

Like he said, the .375 is good, but the .300 magnum and .338 are also good choices, and some have flatter trajectories than .375 and potentially better long range energy retention. .375 is probably the best regardless, but it’s a matter of choice to a degree.

The .577/450 Gandhare rifle is also tremendously powerful and can be unlocked for free if you have the Nepal DLC, and performs better than .375 under certain conditions at the cost of only having iron sights and slow rate of fire without reload perks.

The free .454 Casull revolver is just absolutely ridiculous, even with its default hollow point ammo it is very easily capable of killing bison at 200m, but unlocking its best hard nose ammo requires a lot of pistol XP and it really benefits, but doesn’t explicitly require, having a pistol scope. It is by far the best free big game gun and is available from the start.

You get up to 100% increase on base XP for the consecutive harvest bonus of having actually harvested the last 5 things you’ve killed

It seems to be pretty difficult to lose the bonus as well, though you can lose it

Unsure what you mean by "struggle to hit". Shooting and missing?

Hunting pressure isn't built up unless you kill an animal, so no amount of shooting without killing can disrupt a zone. And until the zone is blown (dead zone), the animals will return.

For HM to promote an increase in overall quality of shooters, take down all lvl 2 and 3 males and leave the lvl 1s alone.

If you're trying for G1 specifically, though, shoot all males.

Consider treestands as an alternative, they can be placed much higher up than Tripods and potentially give you a better vantage point, though you'll have to scout for a good tree.

i understand that dead zone means animals will avoid an area, does high pressure mean that there will be less animals in that area or is it always the same as if there was no pressure but its telling you its getting closer to a dead zone?

Pressure has no effect until it reaches Dead Zone.

It also doesn't actually prevent animals from being called into or traveling through the zone, it just deletes need zones and forces them to spawn elsewhere.

So you can call animals into dead zones and continue to hunt them. If they're within hearing range of the caller.

Pain and suffering. Run around like an idiot until you spook a coyote. Mark where it spooked and what time. Setup a hunt for it there, using a caller. Reset the time to around when it was spooked and pray.

That's the worst damn mission in the game.

Geese are worth more than double that of ducks, and if you have a map that allows you to call in 2 species at once (such as Salzwiesen Park), you can rack up more money with Geese than any other species. They sell for $1,000+ each.

Shame they don't work in MP though.

Okay, so if you're not online and the geese are flying overhead, the likely issue is your tent being too close. Try moving it 100m from the E-Caller, and make sure your hunting structure is 50m from the caller and decoys as well. Also, make sure you're in the structure at all times. Just crouched or lying down in a field isn't enough, they have fantastic eyesight.

My setup looks something like this.

The E-Caller typically sits between those two Tripods, right in the middle of that dead zone.

I've also got it set up within 300m of numerous need zones.

Yeah should be damn near every one that lands, if the flocks flying overhead are the same species that you're attracting.

No you can't, not until they actually spawn in. If your decoys/caller works they'll spawn in and you'll hear a mating call. That's when they become shootable. At that point they're coming in to land, and will make a few wide circles, losing altitude as they do, before finally landing within a few meters of whatever attracted them.

Geese don't need to be in the air to shoot them, so you can wait for numerous flocks to pile up and then genocide them.

The method I used was with herd management. If you just wanna shoot for the G1, just take out all of the male boars you can. If you want to try and pick up some extra diamonds and maybe a super rare with it, focus on your high weight estimate 2s, all 3s, and low weight estimate 4s to progressively split them up. Then just go crazy on 3 and up.

You're wiping out your zones? Do you mean you're just getting them down to 1s and 2s before moving on, all females, or deadzoning it?

Aaah. Okay so the weird thing with wild boar is they like to bounce around quite a bit between zones. There's a good chance you've got some who didn't come in for any of your cycles but are still in those previous areas. I recommend picking 3-4 stable zones where you see the most coming in and using your others as your flex to manage down so you can keep an eye on them in case the boar do shenanigans

Hi Im doing a GO fox grind and using the island method on salz. I have done pair swapping in an attempt to get lone females off the island.

However, nothing respawned in their place. I've done runs across the island multiple times and zoomed across my tents to check if anything new appeared, but nothing did. It's been 2 days now. Did the lone females' unit get deleted off the island? I'm not sure if that's even possible since guides say the foxes stay there.

also yes I am confident the male and female in Zone#3 weren't a pair. I have monitored them and they did not approach the drink zone together. When the drink zone was over, they parted seperate ways.

And if you have completed all missions then you kind of set your own goals. Maybe your first Diamond or trying to set up and get your first G1. Yes you pick them up. Because you have stacked lvl 9s in your main zones, the exteriors should start spawning small deer. The theory is that when you have large animals on your map (your stacked 9s) the game wants to start balancing the populations out by spawning small deer. You may not get small deer instantly but keep shooting your exteriors until you have 5s or smaller

Usually it's good to choose 8 zones to be the main grind zones that you will do your rotations on and the other ones are considered exteriors. 10 lvl9s is good and you can have all those 10 zones as mains if you want, but usually people do 8 since you can have 16 tents on a map and if every zone has a tent for fast travelling to the zone + a pickup tent, that's 8.

All the zones you don't have lvl 9s on, you shoot down (plus those 2 zones with 9s if you want to have 8 main zones). When that's done, you only shoot the main zones. You don't need to shoot them ever again even if the g1 doesn't spawn soon since that's all rng and herd management is more for spawning diamonds and large rares

Honestly? Any kind of murder-spree setup works great for cash. Decoys for ducks, feeders for deer, etc. If you've got the DLCs to support it, it's by far one of the most effective ways to earn money without any danger to yourself

Hey everyone, setting up HM for the first time and I have a question. On a lot of my moose drink zones on medved, there is multiple need zones per drink zone icon, ie 2 with 1 moose and 1 with 3 moose, do I treat them all as one group or by their individual need zones?

I think hunting structures have either been updated or have been misunderstood, I set up a waterfowl blind 60 meters from my feeder, for bow hunting, and I can crawl into it without spooking anything. I was under the assumption that getting into any structure would potentially spook within 100m, but it seems to be limited only to placing them. I'm going to change it out for various other structures to see if any of them make noise.

Oh yeah you can get in and out of them, but being able to run up to them without spooking is 150m out as a standard

For grinds that's the approach taken because it's the fastest method to cover multiple areas. 150m out from zone is the stand, 50m out from that is the tent. No spook. Only fast pew pew

Yeah, I was just under the assumption that 150m was the safe distance to prevent the 'entering x structure' sound from spooking. I typically hunt from 200m or more so it's never really been relevant for me to actually test, until I decided to set up a bow culling zone.

Currently farming Canada geese, is it possible to get multiple birds with one shot?

I’m using the starter shotgun with 12ga birdshot and each shot is only getting a single goose with only 2 shots available to shoot each time

Saltwater crocodile hunting during fox and banteng drink time is pretty good but if you don't have emerald coast go for geese, any species use decoys or callers and you can get a ton of geese, each pay around 600

crocs on emerald coast, beach on the right, also any sort of waterfowl is a great way to get passive income with the e-caller & decoys setup.

well the pointer dog does locate small prey but just be aware the smaller the animal, the smaller the range he will look for. (large animals they have a much larger range they will search.)

for things like rabbits you can use the feeders or hop on the quad and they start to do warning taps which you can use to locate them

there also is the hazel grouse caller, which i think is the only caller for any of the land birds

Started my first G1 grind for wolves on medved I’m doing the 8 zone rotation like lady legend does and at one of my zones there was an egg white female so I shot it since it’s a rare, should I have shot it being a female?

That's likely it. If you aren't using the zeroing perk your crosshairs will only hit directly on target at 150m

If you want to hit 200-270m you have to aim higher than where you want to hit

You can infer their locations if you run around and pay enough attention to where you see them. While you don't have to find all the zones, it's recommended still so you know where everything is hiding

Every specific animal has their own drink zone. Not every animal of that type share one drink zone

Each zone holds a different amount of that animal which you can see when you interact with the zone - it'll say a number like 1-9 to indicate how many of that species are tied to that zone

The reason you have to find all the drink zones is so you can shoot down all the high level stuff everywhere but where you’ll be grinding.(the lakes you pick).

Shooting down everything in your main zones(the lakes you watch) forces high levels to only spawn where youre shooting things

Yep! Fox females can be high levels as well so you have to shoot both but there’s a science to it basically I haven’t fully figured out.

Every animal has a specific time they drink. I use the COTW companion app to see when. Foxes are 17-20. I like to start a few minutes after 17 and start scouting lakes for foxes. This unlocks drink zones

It’s almost impossible to watch over every spot foxes drink and the more high levels you have on the map the less more high levels are to spawn
