So you need to setup on more zones

So you dont have many pickups

And you end UP needing to waste a Lot of time picking Them up

To find their tracks, you must either be there during their active hour or after. The tracks at the need zones remain for 6 hours after the active hour, and the tracks between the zones remain for 3 hours.
At night, you must turn on your headlamp or use your night vision binoculars to see the tracks.

best thing i can say is choose a spot about 150m away from a water source (a need zone) that they go to on the map of choice you prefer (if youre new than id do one of the starter ones) the layton lake district on google there is some maps that show need zones 🙂 dont let your stand be in direct line of them and make sure to pack some scent cover so they dont smell you- i personally do not play the game with others as i am a lot more solo styled but i can still give tips and pointers

Anyone know why my geese are taking ages to come in? For me it usually only takes a few minutes till I have flocks coming back in, even solos, but it’s taking more then 10! Brand new spot so only a tiny bit of hunting pressure but hunting people doesnt affect birds I was told. When I do eventually get something coming in it’s only ever one single flock or they just fly right by! Using decoys and the electric caller, set up in a tree stand about 70 meters away.

Even when I leave and come back, it still takes ages for only a single flock to arrive.

The "flocks" of geese you see flying by i believe are just There ti give skies wildlife. Theyw ill never come

How does herd management function?

each species has an set average for the entire population of that species, as you harvest animals and the game shoots out respawns, the respawns are affected by what is left on your map, so if you have a lot of big animals on your map, the game will shoot out more small animals to try to stay near the average & vice versa, if you have small animals on your map, the zones that you hunt will produce more high levels.

herd management is setting up on 8-10 zones (16 tents is max, 2 tents per zone at to claim after hm.)

so what you do is set up on 8 main zones and 8 exterior zones, any zone that isn’t your main is an exterior. the goal is to shoot rotate on both main and exterior zones, leaving the max level males in the main zones & the small males in the exterior zones. Once the males in the exterior zone are small, you pick up your setup and move to another zone until all the exteriors are managed down.

then you can setup on your 8 main zones with the big deer, shoot them & set pickup tents to speed up the process

making sure to go back every now and then and check for males that have respawned in other zones (bouncers)

can someone please help me lol. I got CotW like last year and it ran perfectly fine. Now it runs good at a high fps on any settings. But when I shoot my Rifle of Bow it cuts out then crashes. I'm on steam With an i5 12600K, 32 gigs of ram, and a RTX 4060Ti. The solutions I've tried are... Verify the integrity of the files on steam, Lowered the ingame settings, updated graphics and audio drivers, completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game and on different hard drives/ SSD's and I even started a new save file to no avail. but just to be extra sure, there are two different numbers that ordinarily go from 1 to 9

there's the class, which is the ammo type determinator, and then there's the actual level

the actual level is your gauge for where on the bronze-to-diamond scale the animal is going to score

most animals max out at 5

things like rabbits and birds (with the exception of geese) go up to 3. Whitetail also max at 3

as do musk deer and roe deer

things that go up to 9 are reserved for predators, the three murderbuffalo (don't quote me when it comes to the yak because I refuse to touch that map without an aggression rework), and red deer

quick tip for red deer specifically, if you ever see a lvl 9 that has a rack that looks like 🦀 claws, it will not make diamond.

Animals won't always show up at their zones at the exact times marked. Sometimes they skip that zone entirely that cycle. Persist, or try and track them down to where they really are. Need zones are guides, not absolute

That would be because the skull is a trophy organ on a majority of animals. Damaged trophy organ is a failed harvest check and incurs a score rank penalty

Then what’s the point of needs zones if the animals aren’t in that spot at least 15 minutes after zone time. For example wolf Yukon 00:00-3:00 you gotta set time to 1:30 to even get them to spawn in. That literally takes half of your zone time you get to hunt them. Animals spawns at needs zones need reworked.

Animals don’t spawn at need zones. They are walking from the last zone to the next zone. They usually leave their zone at the end of the timeframe. It may take some time to arrive in the next zone, depending on the way they have to walk.

This is a different story. If you skip the time, then the game has to simulate this period somehow. And if you mean this game needs to have a more consistent simulation of this time. Then this point I will give you.

If they are truly walking from zone to zone. Then each herds sleep feed and drinks zones shouldn’t be so far apart that they can’t make it on time. Not saying it has to be exact time but no later then 15-20 minutes after zone start time.

It depends on factors that you aren't considering. Have they been spooked off their base path? Are they shifting/rotating zones? Also paths are not locked and never should be. That would make the game far to predictable and unnatural. A group getting to a spot to engage in a specific behavior based on the peak time they do that behavior is a more natural flow.

Ok, then the herds should never be at the same zones. Herds should just show up at whatever need zone is closest at that time. That’s why great one grinding is a thing. The same animals at the same zones is that not predictable??.

You're far too annoyed by a very reasonable mechanic imo lol. There's more to it than just X creature to zones A, B, and C and repeat - that's just a very basic view of the process. Hunting in the game - just like real life - can cause pattern shifts which will always have the ability to effect the time animals arrive at zones. To do otherwise would be boring AF.

That’s literally all there is to it. If you could truly cause pattern changes then after you blast 100 plus animals off a zone rotation after rotation while grinding, then them animals would just never come back to that area. The Animal AI isn’t that complex like you are thinking.

can someone please help me lol. I got CotW like last year and it ran perfectly fine. Now it runs good at a high fps on any settings. But when I shoot my Rifle of Bow it cuts out then crashes. I'm on steam With an i5 12600K, 32 gigs of ram, and a RTX 4060Ti. The solutions I've tried are... Verify the integrity of the files on steam, Lowered the ingame settings, updated graphics and audio drivers, completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game and on different hard drives/ SSD's and I even started a new save file to no avail. In the bottom right in your compass, there is a cone. The small part the center of the compass is you, and the wide part of the cone represents the wind's direction and width. If the wind is blowing in it's direction, it will detect you well in advance. You can use olfactory camouflage.
Also, take the time to learn about Skills and Perks; they will help you a great deal.
