Yes .338 is adequate, you don't need any other gun for class 7-9. It's a preference thing. The .470 has a highest zero of 150m and it performs best within 100m, but at that effective range it's incomparably more powerful than the .338.

If a cape buffalo is charging you and you shoot it in the shoulder while it's hard quartering at you, it will punch all the way back through to the intestines.

also one last thing that adds to the .470 is that it's a double rifle, so you have a follow up shot immediately at the ready as soon as you're back on target

How do I find animals without them spotting me or hearing me first? Surely crouching around the entire map isn't how I'm supposed to be tracking animals?

they usually have always the upper hand. I'm a newbie so I'm sure people will give you better ideas but when animals make the warning call I stop running and walk/crouch until I see them

Mostly Class 1 ammo, you dont need any heavy weapons

Lots of patience, they're notoriously hard to find ig, your best bet is to find tracks and try and follow em

Yeah so you get all your skill points back and can re-allocate them

For example, if you want to try ambush hunting, you can remove all your tracking abilities and invest in those instead

How can I fix my layton animal population? It's about 95% doe's and females in general and troll-level bronze males.

I have been playing on and off since 2018, never took it upon myself to figure out how to manip the population without mods

When I do find the male that is about 1 out of 50 (I am serious, I dont get why my population is so messed up) and I do find the EXTREMELY rare gold, I kill it hoping for a higher level respawn

also, any ideas how my population got so severely messed up? its fine on other reserves

So with the way respawns work, males only respawn as males and females only respawn as femails (AFAIK). You'll have to look for where all your males went, probably to some random need zone way off your normal hunting areas

So if you kill two males from one zone, they may move to another zone entirely

However, there are NO coyotes at the lake, I have fast travelled a few times, came before the drink zone, nothing.

Hm, weird. Just got back into the game today after some hunts yesterday, on Cuatro again, and for some reason, my map seems to be almost completely empty. Asides from the hay fields and cabbage patches, I don't think I've heard/seen a single animal. Anyone else been experiencing something like this, or is the map just naturally low in animal pop?

I don't think I've made any adjustments to animal pop files, at least not for the last 3-4 weeks after I encountered an odd issue with another map being weirdly empty, but yesterday I was finding animals at least fairly often. Are they just in other areas and I've not found them yet?

(For reference, I've not been on Cuatro that long, about a day or two, so technically just starting out, explored the upper left corner of the map, but just strangely not seeing animals at all after seeing a fairly decent amount over the last few days)

It means that after 50 metres it will slowly start losing penetration

So if you have a target at 150m and the effective range of your weapon is 150m it'll hit center of the cross hair, but if your effective range is 150m and your target is 250m there will be more significant bullet drop
