if you are asking about maps the ones I see recommended the most are Silver Ridge Peaks, Vurhonga Savannah, Emerald Coast, and Revontuli Coast.

High Caliber is centered around the semi-automatic Aryzna .300 magnum. It's like the Canning from Yukon but you don't have to work the bolt. It's made for wiping out swaths of bears.

I still like shooting the Canning though, and it comes with a great map 🗺️

it's really good for both. You're way more likely to see 2-4 big male crocs grouped up than bears, so the semi is handy

Silver Ridge Peaks is best for Black Bears. Lots of lakes with nearby outposts.

If you want Grizzlies you go for Yukon.

If you want Brown Bears go for Revontuli Coast and Medved Taiga. New England Mountains is essentially Revontuli lite with lots of small game and Black Bears instead of Brown Bears.

Chief's other advice is good too, those are all good maps except I haven't tried New England yet. The species list is top notch though.

don't sleep on Layton either, it's not as easy to grind as Silver Ridge but if you like random hunting bear the level design is good for it

It's mostly difficulty level and weight yeah. You can look at the rack too, but it's not totally reliable. There are skills to help with it: Spotting Knowledge 3 gives trophy estimates when you spot, and Tracking Knowledge 3 gives weight estimates when you look at an animal's tracks. Diamonds are almost always max weight category animals.

some animals make gold from lower weights too, a big 70-85kg Whitetail can make gold for example

For whitetail and other animals on the 1-3 scale level 2 will be a mix of silvers and golds, and level 3 is usually diamond but sometimes trolls.

On the 1-5 scale big 3s and most 4s will make gold, and 5 is almost always diamond. On some species (e.g. Banteng) big 4s can make diamond.

On the 1-9 scale 4-5 will be silver, 6-8 will be gold, and 9 usually makes diamond. I think animals on the 1-9 scale can troll more but that's just a guess based on what has happened to me when I play.

a few weeks ago i started playing the missions on layton lake for the second time. because when i started the game several years ago, i missed all the gifted diamond animals.
now i completed nearly all missions, but i dont get the mission "hope - sick papa bear" where i have to shoot mr. black at the high lake.
what do i need to do to trigger that mission? i hunted everything for the last 16 hours and that mission wont get in my list.
all available story- and sidemissions are completed.
is this mission bugged or did it got patched out of the game?

it would be very nice, if someone has informations about that.

Oof... so I've heard others going through issues with missions before.
A lot of the responses (do not take my word for it) that others got was they unfortunately would have to restart their game. You don't lose your trophies if you restart/press New Game but you do start over entirely with guns etc.
This is the only way I heard to fix this issue.. perhaps if there is a way to make a ticket and talk to a dev or so about this? otherwise.. I just know to restart the game if this happens.

Wolves can be another good one

the main thing I look for when hunting for cash is species difficulty >=50% and something about the species that makes it easy to shoot lots of them. With bison/banteng it's because they are slow and in big herds. With crocodiles it's because they are predators with solo zones so they don't care about hunting pressure and you can clear a lot of them quickly.

Wolves have high difficulty and rove in packs, they will even sometimes come up to you and deliver themselves.

You need more drink zones to start your grind imo. You're right about the difficult layout on Layton so you might need to move your tents around at first or visit areas without tents. Once you get things cleaned up you won't get too many exterior respawns, and you can just check them sometimes if you feel the need.

Drink times start when the animal is at it's previous activity. They have to travel to the drink zone, and arrive later. Getting spooked on the way will delay this as well, especially if it is later in the previous location.

Ambushes can be set up to take advantage of a herd when you know the next activity that the group is going to move to and wait for them to move.

Those semis are great if you want to grind or even regular hunting for certain species. High-tech has night vision and good archery kit, Ambusher has the sweetest lever rifle and the e-caller.

Depends which kind of deer you want. I think for Whitetail Revontuli is considered easiest, Red Deer hunters like Te Awaroa or Cuatro, Fallow Deer Te Arawoa, and Moose usually on Medved but okay on all maps.

let me know how it goes. I tried the Moradi on Crocs - also class 8 - and it was okay but I feel like they die more reliably to the Canning. I'm looking at that 70 penetration and thinking I should try again with it though 😄

Moradi 44 + Kullman 22H is a nice 2-gun combo I use on a lot of maps. It has some limitations on range and on class 8 though. I like the Moradi for wolves as long I remember to keep the 1-4x or iron sights on it. It definitely fits in your pocket though

Question about the missions; Some missions on Layton require you to shoot an animal from a Hunting Stand or Ground Blind.

Does that mean you need to use only the green map provided ones or can you use the ones from the DLC?

Never occured to me to try lol.
