Anyone have an understanding of what's wrong with the current state of the base-game scopes? Somethings been off with my gameplay so I went to Hirschfeld and on my .243 and .270 the Ascent clearly shoots 2+ inches to the right on 100 yard target. I have to hold on the very left edge of the red ten-ring to hit center. Similar with the Hyperion, at full zoom 100 yards I can only center shots using the right edge of the thick vertical crosshair plus a couple pixels. Seems odd the guns don't shoot straight in an otherwise immersive hunting game.

Ok if you're herd managing you leave the smallest of the animals like for reds you leave lvl 2s and 3s mayyybe 4s whitetail you leave the 1s/minimum weight estimate males black bears you leave 1s 2s and 3s at least

And you try to get as many of those in zones you don't primarily hunt

Like you have the 16 zones you hunt you try to get all the others to have as many small animals as possible

That's if you're trying to do hardcore herd management

Took some digging but I found posts explaining that the scopes and gun models aren't aligned with the center of the screen. The bullets originate from the center of the screen. For whatever reason all the scopes and guns are misaligned to the left. Some people have said it's been this way for years. So now I'm confused as to whether I somehow missed this when I played before, mistakenly blaming it on missing perks and imagining the hold-breath mechanic was way more complex than it actually is. Super bizarre error given the game is based on shooting things accurately. Now I'm wondering how they managed to develop themselves into this weird corner that they're unable to fix.

The frustrating part is that I kept telling myself, "well, you need to aim more left" when looking at my shots on x-ray, but not making the connection that it's my sights, so I started crawling closer and not taking more challenging shots since I was missing many by an inexplicable amount.

much easier to draw a line from your viewport's center rather than the scope's center which exists in world space not screen space. world space is hard to align to screen space in real time, that is why games like Counter Strike has a screen space decal for scopes when aiming down and not the actual model.

I just hold a bit higher. I practice at the range and get a sense of how many inches/cm higher I need to aim. Be cautious with using the perk. It gives you another way to mess up your shot when the rifles shoot very flat to 150 m.

When you get that perk, you need to be committed to using it.

If you don't have emerald coast I recommend. I have barely played on it and already have a rare Croc, rare goose, two rare sambar, a rare rusa, a rare fox, a dime hog deer and 4 dime banteng. Have had 1 troll Croc, and 2 troll sambar also. Te, srp, vurhonga and rev are great too.

Hey all, I've got a strange issue on PC. The game refuses to save my progress when I exit the game and go back in. The other day I lost progress for about 3 completed lategame missions on Hirschfelden reserve and they were bloody annoying ones at that..

I did some searching and the only thing I can find that people tout as a solution is to check the AntiVirus settings and the folder settings, but I've tried every remedy and it's still not working. I've tried disabling/enabling steam cloud, I've run it with Windows Defender deactivated, I've added the process as an exclusion under Windows Defender

If anyone can help with a bugged game I would be greatly appreciative. I cannot switch between ammo types, scopes, shoot my guns. I have plenty of ammo and 83 hours of playtime. I've reinstalled 2 times, verified files, reset to default settings. I purchased the treestand DLC yesterday it worked for a few hours and then my game bugged out. Animals where dead or moving but stuck. I brain shot a bear but it was on the ground but alive and highlight able. Im not sure what to do. Mainly the ammo and scope issue. I cant shoot because my guns are stuck on none for ammo category. Calls work fine.

I found I can manually equip a single ammo type by going into pause, inventory, ammo, then choosing a type and selecting it to the correct weapon. Then i can shoot. Scopes work with this method as well. So the bug appears to be with the hot wheel perhaps.

How to check if you have a corrupted save file:
Step 1: Disable cloud syncing if it is not already disabled
Step 2: Locate your save folder. it should be in this file path:

Documents/Avalanche Studios/COTW/Saves
NOTE: On the Epic Games version , the save folder will be in a different folder titled something like “Epic Games”
Step 3: cut/paste your save folder somewhere you will remember it.
Step 4: Launch the game. If the game launches successfully, one or more files in your original save was corrupted

If you have a case of save file corruption, it is still possible to recover some of your original save data, however, I cannot guarantee that any specific part of your save can be recovered, as it all depends on which file got corrupted.

First, we need to figure out which file got corrupted.
Step 1: Copy a file from your original save, delete the file that the game generated when you successfully launched the game, and paste the original file
Step 2: Launch the game
Repeat this process until the game fails to launch.

(It is possible to expedite this process by re-introducing the old files in batches of 3-5. Once you have a batch that results in a failure to launch, test each file in the batch individually to see which specific file was corrupted)

Once you find the corrupt file, delete it, then copy all the other files from your original save game back to the game’s save folder, then launch the game.
Lastly, re-enable cloud syncing if it was disabled at the beginning of this process

I highly recommend making manual backups of your save game as while file corruption is rare, it can be potentially devastating. You can never be too careful.

Hm, well my game launches fine but nothing saves when I exit (issue previously mentioned which I brought to the support email). The reason I think it's my save that's the problem is that I moved (backed up) my save and start the game from scratch and completed a few missions, exitted the game, and it saved fine

But for some reason when I place back my normal save it doesn't save loadout, last reserve played on, money, mission progress, anything

Really don't want to lose this 150 hr playtime save 😦

Yea honestly I work in software and specifically in cybersecurity and I find most/all AV pretty much a huge scam. The only time I recommend it is for seniors who for some reason cannot grasp the idea of not downloading random files sent to their emails etc.

The only "AV" I use and mostly in a "cleanup" capacity is MalwareBytes, but never just having an AV running constantly and eating up a bunch of CPU cycles 😛

Yep it's very common since they tend to use a private database managed by the company running the AV, which has all of the signatures and hashes of known malicious programs. But usually the real ransomware attacks and viruses that are not just scammers downloading malware to make a quick buck are not going to be in any database, and are going to be developed for a specific purpose.

And also not to mention that the very first problem to solve when writing malicious software is "how do we get around AVs" and it's usually pretty simple

That's one reason why MalwareBytes and a couple of others are still decently useful, they at least use a more community-based database of malicious software but also vulnerabilities. So instead of Norton's database that gets updated maybe once every month, community based databases can be updated constantly as soon as something new is discovered.

I'm a returning player, had 300-400 hours but haven't played since summer 2021 and I'm having a lot of trouble with fallow deer and my hands disappearing

No fallow deer on hirsh at any water source during drinking times, I'm good for wind and quiet

And I've missed a few kills from my hands disappearing and not being able to get anything in them without fast traveling

Any help on either of these?

For the hands thing try pressing or holding h i think, also animals mostly appear like an hour and half after their drink time starts

Multiplayer is entirely peer-to-peer, so it relies on both the host and the other people in the server.

COTW was also not coded with multiplayer in mind. Multiplayer was only added because enough people wanted it.
