A handgun isn’t necessary

But if you can fit a handgun in your loadout without replacing any of the other weapons then do it if you want to

Cape buffalo are a big game species. They give ~$1200 per kill, which is really good right? However, you need to use ammunition which can cost more than $950 per ten rounds.
Whereas rock or willow ptarmigan give about $1000-1100 per kill, but the ammo you need to hunt them (birdshot) is less than $200 per ten rounds, effectively giving you a better payout than hunting Cape buffalo

I had my shot at a Lvl 9 - Legendary Red Deer earlier today, I shot at it from around 280m over a river, it would have gone by the time I got round there! I hit it, but hit no organs and it went on to tracking prey. I lost the tracks for it when the crossed with some other Red Deer tracks and I got confused. Will it still be on the reserve when I reload the game again or will it despawn and I have to wait for a new one to spawn? I don't know how all the spawning of the animals work in the game!!

I was hunting a bear and after my resurrection I went back to retrieve it,,, but the tracks stopped and the blood trails kept saying 75%-100%. What happened?

Morning all, any tips for sneaking up on Black Bears? I’m trying to take two photos for the mission but none of the ones I’ve taken from a distance have counted - nor pictures of ones I’ve shot. I’ve tried sneaking into their rest zones trying to find one asleep but find it’s a lot easier for them to hear me coming than it is for me to find them lying down in the undergrowth

So what I have seen people say works is.to put a tent down within a safe distance of the zone, like 100 meters or so, change the time to right before they get to the zone

and then either: creep on them til you're within 75m of the bear

or!

run like a nutter with your camera out, full speed at the bear, taking photos the entire time

but the consensus is: you need to be within 75 meters for it to register for the quest

It really comes down to personal preference between the Argus and Hyperion. I like the Hyperion more because my field of view when ADSing is higher compared to the Argus, but the Argus has far higher magnification which makes those 300+ meter shots easier

You'd be better off seeking the zones around that lake yourself - as the animals aren't static player to player. What might exist on my map isn't necessarily going to be there for yours

Hey guys, Is there anyone here that is colour blind? I've been playing the game now for several months now struggling with the colours, especially when it comes to tracking the animals. I've tried all the colour options available and found the best one for me is the bright green one, but even that one I struggle with on some reserves. I'm constantly having to adjust the settings of the game in order to track animals and it's costing me time! I was wondering how other colour blind players managed?

Unfortunately there isn't a colour blind setting. Nvidia do game overlay setting for some games. There is along with about 20 other filters a colour blind filter for the game Planet Zoo which helps me so much, but the only filter there is for cotw is a sharpening one!!

I'm not sure, I think there's 4 types. But I'm a real awkward ......... as I have different colour blindness in each eye!! My left eye which I'm slowly going blind in, is the worst and struggles with greens, whereas my right eye struggles with reds. Because of that I see the bright green better than any other when following tracks, but it's not so much the colour I'm follow. I'm following the brightness of it. If the other colours where brighter it would help me.

Yeah I get a lot of that when I go. The hospital where I go for my check ups on my eyes is a training hospital, so when ever I go I get all the trainee Drs come and take a look at my eyes, cos 'apparently' my left eye is very unusual!

If there is hunting pressure then you killed it and its gone. If not, it will be there again.

Reset the time 1 hour into the zonetime and quit to main menu. Then slowly make your way back there and take care of the wind. You will find it at his zone. Sometimes they just need time to get there, even with time reset and quitting to menu. Good luck

the default .243 does really well for that and the little vamps definitely won't sense you from that far out either

It's because you're using the wrong ammo type. The harvest checks are proper ammo, shot twice or less, undamaged trophy organ (skull), and vital organ hit

If you fail any of those checks, the medal rating does down a level

Yes like your in game settings. If you play on essentially minecraft graphics I'm not sure you'll get the same render as someone playing on 4k
