I like going after bigger targets; moose, red deer, bears so I find that the poly tips really get in on the lungs and hearts of those guys if I use bullets. (I really prefer the bows, tbh for bear and moose)
I have tried soft points before with bear and - for me (and it could be operator error, here) more often than not, I just damaged it and it ran off angry.

For me at closer ranges less than 150m, the soft points seem to do well . But the poly tips work at short as well as long ranges and the lower price of the soft points just isn't enough to offset the versatility of the poly tips. Perhaps when you are just getting started out the lower cost of the soft tips is a bigger trade off. Especially when you have a weaker scope that wont allow you to reach out and touch much beyond 150m

yeah ya gotta level him up, give treats, pet him, praise him, shake hands. he gets better with time. my dog Blunt is max level he finds everything, its well worth the 4 bucks for the dlc. kill a bunch then go to the kill area indicated by the ppurple hunting pressure on your map, tell him to track, then move 50 m and do it again, he finds blood within 50m of where he is

if he gets on a track where the animal is not going down in health just tell him heel and go to next area bc that animal got away and wont die, will stop bleeding, if bleed rate is low and no vitals hit

birds are different and will die likw every time its hit eventually

For some reason, I'm having issues with my animal outlines and track brightness.

To start with animal spotting, when I use my binos and spot an animal, no outline will appear around it. It's a major annoyance to play with, especially when I'm hunting in the early morning zones.

As well, my track brightness is way too dim. It makes it really hard for me to see. I have my brightness up to the max on my monitor and I keep reviewing the settings in-game but to no avail. Any suggestions?

What the fuck you can outline your targets with the binoculars?

the medal ranking is based on the trophy score. which with animals like deer, basically means rack size. it will say in the "trophy type" antlers, body weight, skull. that tells you how the trophy is judged. if you hit a 250 red deer its a diamond (9 difficulty) if you hit a level 1 diffulty (doe) its going to be a 0. different fur types can also be in play. albinos, melonistic, piebald etc

As far as what to do, the missions will give you a story mode that will show you a lot of the reservation you are on and also give you tips and tricks in the form of banter with NPCs. while you are walking around. look for grass beds on the grown, this shows a "need zone". Need zones are water, food and sleep. they will tell you what time of day animals frequent that area. then you shoot em. coast lines are a great place to find these

Can anyone give me some advice? I spend hours and hours in the game as i'm new and i've gotten like 3 kills total and scared off animals over 260 times through sound. Even though i walk slowly (middle bar on the audio gauge) and use binoculars often. When i hear calls i use the same species call but nothing shows up. Also i have really bad problems with tracking.

this is my "go to strategy" until i start finding need zones and good places to set up shop. walk along coastlines. check your binos every few minutes. Ive noticed on my game animals render in about 400 yards. also while you are walking along coast lines, look for drinking zones. that usually helps me get started on a new reserve

Hello guys! Need help in understanding my situation with ammo.

So I hunted a black bear which is class 7.
Gun used: Eckers .30-07
Bullet: .30-06 Polymer-Tip Bullet (Class 4-8)

But when I hunted the Black Bear it says Improper Ammo

I know there were some updates on trophy rating because this is a new account I made to start all over again.
But I'm not understanding, search on reddit and some said that if an animal isn't down quickly when using a polymer tip, it will be classified as improper ammo?

to your bottom right corner you also have a compass, the green cone is where your sent is going so if you have it going towards the animals they'll most likely to get spooked. Also I'd recommend finding more open spaces to scout out to begin with, you'll unlock more skills later which makes it easier as you level up 😁

Anyone else experiencing an issue where you’re online and connected to an Apex Connect account but the Easter cosmetic pack isn’t unlocking in the Hunt Club Beta menu?

some short advice:

1. watch some youtube beginner videos
2. disregard tracks. They're just useful as hint what's around. If you see different looking tracks - bushes, carcasses, etc. - you can inspect them for need zones, but don't try to follow them to catch an animal, it just doesn't work because of reasons that aren't short.
3. try doing missions and exploring the green icons on the map while looking out for animals in a distance
4. if you hear a warning call, fall flat to the ground and look for a place to hide. Then look for the animal. Later you'll have callers and lures for that situation
5. all sorts of blinds to watch over good spots
6. watch some youtube beginner videos

As well, if you did indeed buy all the reserves, I really suggest hunting in Yukon Valley. Harrison River Basin is great for Caribou, quick way to make money especially if you’re new because the Ranger supports 2-6.

What do people do when they say they grind for GO's in this game? Must be a painfully slow process no?

Grinding involves repeatedly targeting individuals in the same zones to get respawns. Basically, people set it to an animal’s drink time, visit each lake and shoot individuals at those lakes, then reset the time and come back to see what respawned. Rinse and repeat

This process is aided by tents placed near the lakes allowing you to fast travel there and save time + hunting structures like tripods and treestands that reduce the hunting pressure accumulated at the lake to avoid building up too much pressure and deleting zones

Depending on where the animal(s) is/are coming from, it can be a while. We have some folks who don't see animals till 40 minutes in on their need zone.

Before I reset my game a while back, I had a mega herd of red deer (like 35 head) on Hirsch, and they never showed up til almost an hour past their "bedtime"

If the animal is already spooked and you're honking on the horn to summon them, I think I've seen it work once in person

The higher up the animal is in level, the more situational aware it is and has higher self preservation

Is the wind blowing from you to them? No amount of calling will pull an animal into a scent it wants to avoid

Are you just running around honking for them? If there's no known one in the area at the time - you're figuratively wasting your breath

Also, is it the right caller for the predator?

well, i usually go with a weapon set that covers classes 2-9 (usually the .243, the 7mm for 4-7ers and the .338 for 8-9ers), manually changing the callers as needed

Hi! Welcome to the game!
So, first and foremost... while we can't stop modders - it's not supported by the company. It absolutely faceplants the code - and there's no real way to '"fix" the problems it creates.. That said.. Playing multiplayer is fine, and the best advice I could offer you is if you think an animal is hacked, don't touch it. I've heard stories of folks harvesting and taking/taxi'ing a cheated animal and it hurting their solo game in some form. (Wonky animals etc).

You wouldnt get banned for killing those animals, CotW is not quite the same as The Hunter Classic - THC has a way to condemn cheaters from what I recall. CotW does not have that. If you kill the animal and claim the corpse for money (I think it has happened to ANYONE who has played MP at some point or another) I dont think anything would happen to your game. I think issues arose when people saved them to put in their lodges.

Your best tip offs to people hacking:
Super speedy movement by a player
Mass killing of animals, like 10+ in the space of seconds.
if in game you check the online player list, and you see one with a level higher than 60 - they have cheated.
If in game they are crowing about finding diamond after diamond, or rares, or super rares - probably safe to assume they are hacking.

tbh, simulation or not in the end it's still just a video game, if they'd play it right they could add basically any animal, heck even elephants, giraffe, rhinos, zebra or hippos, honestly, i actually expected them on the savanna map, even if hunting them would actually cost ingame cash instead of earning it, it would at least be something unique and not just a pogo-stick roe deer, a reskinned roe deer, a recolored fox, a smaller and a bigger bison version with the only species to actually stick out being the lions 😮‍💨

tbh, i'd even pay for a species DLC like that, even if it would cost like 10 bucks and them donating 3 bucks per sale to actual animal care organisations that protects those very species

Hi, i have done this a few days ago. You have to go through a tunnel to him. I placed a tent right in front of that tunnel. He spawns when you a bit into the tunnel. Run to him to check his lvl and quit to main menu if he is not lvl9. Repeat till sucess. It took me around 40 minutes, so your patience is the only thing that matters. Once he is lvl 9 kill him. There a 2 things that can happen, first he freezes and second he runs to a door in the right corner. There is a gate and he will run against it for like 20 seconds before he glitches through and runs away. Good luck.

Around 250 I'll zero for 300, at 200 I'll zero for 150. Usually won't make too much of a difference unless it's a really small animal

same here, especially since the noticeable drop usually only starts kicking in at max zero, like with the 7mm magnum and the .338 calibers it usually doesn't really change anything when it's zeroed to 150 and you're aiming directly at ranges between 100-250, but zeroing at 300 and aiming at 350 actually requires manual correction

Hello all!! A few QOL questions for you guys. 1: I am on XBOX here and I am having a terrible time "spotting" anything unless I and the animal are both completely motionless. Spotting while I or the animal is walking or running is aggrevating. Why you ask? Because on XBOX the "LOOK" and "SPOT" controls both require the right thumb. You can't do both at same time. I tried to remap the spot to RB or LB so I can do both at same time, but it won't let me change the settings. Is this a bug? 2: Is there a way to adjust the sound effects so I can turn up animal sounds without making all my callers obnoxiously load at same time? I use callers A LOT and they get annoying to hear--so I turned down the SFX, but then I was not able to hear the animals. 3: Is there a way to just see MY structures on the map? I see you can turn POI (this removes MY structures) and zones on and off in the menus, but not JUST MY structures. (Also toggling these on and off while in map mode instead of going to setting menu would be alot nicer)

They were giving out very precise figures such as 4591! it's not even about why bushes conceal you more, i mean that much is actually quite reasonable (at least if done right), it's more about how that doesn't have any effect on hunting pressure while bows and stands are basically insanely buffed 😉
