The .243 is more than capable of killed red deer and caribou/reindeer, but if you are having trouble try unlocking the .270

The .270 is a pretty easy gun to get your hands on very early in the game and is decent power increase from the .243, should make getting those vital shots a little easier

My biggest issue is, if animals are gonna spook at 250m, but most rifles are effective at 150m, how are we supposed to get good shots and quick downs? Even if you get a lung shot with a good penetration round, at 250m you're stuck with 1 lung versus double and they don't bleed out as quick

The symbol just shows a general area. Especially for feed and rest zones, they can be a decent distance from the symbol on the map. Drink zones are a little more accurate but still won't always be right on the zone.

But it should be close enough for you to still see the animals that use it. (Barring sight obstructions).
