Hey, I have a problem with need zones. Sometimes when i discover an animal at a that for example is drinking, there is no need zone discovered on my map. I also go to the spots and additionally "discover" the steps the animal made in hope to finally get the zone. However it is not working. This is happen really often to me. Is this a bug, or am i doing something wrong?

Yea the score is a diamond but to get a diamond you need to pass the harvest check. If the harvest check isn't passed then it gets taken down a level

Hey so umm I managed to kill the first target the game has me attack in one hit but ever since I've been running around for hours shooting damn moose and deer and the like but one hit doesn't kill them and when I follow blood trails I end up following them for 10 mins at a time and then eventually the cone points me into a never-ending loop where the moose has doubled back and I can't tell where the trail goes. Basically I can't find things to kill after the first shot plus trying to move slowly so as not to spook them is totally impossible because after the first shot it'd take hours to follow the blood trail at such a slow speed if it takes 10 mins or more going full speed and never laying eyes on the thing a 2nd time...

What is the first gun you're using it makes it tough taking any kind of big game you're basically shooting spitballs at a moose with it I recommend trying to go after smaller deer and always try to get perfect broadside lung shots

it's probably not practical with the way the game works. all the save data is stored locally, which is how COTW has been since day 1. apex connect was also only implemented last year, more than 4 years into the game's life

Proper tent placement, stand placement, and a set routine make it better for me. Right now I'm doing a red deer grind. I never walk more than 300m (for first shot choice). I end up walking more but because I have multiple water zones lined up on same lake/river.

i can walk over hours without having one encounter of anything. i do not run, my payload is under 20 having no backpack only whats required, playing the game over years but success is really rare and and ultra short episode, now iam around level 20 but its more like an annoyance of boredom than an experience of hunting ... and its similar at my friends ... i wish we could hunt, but currently it looks like there is no animals in all that maps ... and if u see some in the far (really ultra rare event), in the next second that thing is disappeared ... wow thats magic

I’m sorry to hear this. COTW truly can be quite a fun experience depending on how you wish to play and what maps you prefer. If you are looking for a faster experience I would suggest SRP, Te Awaroa, Vurhonga, or Revontuli. A good tip for having fast success with finding animals would be to use a hotspot map to know where groups of animals will be at and at which time. If you join Pro XCK’s discord you will have access to an entire channel dedicated to updating the hotspot maps for every reserve in the game.

from when I last played the secret to having maps full of animals is to just walk around during key times and find as many drink, feed, and rest zones as possible. Somehow more zones = more animals out and about. Also there are key locations in every map that have more animals congregating than others--usually the lakes

but then again I haven't played in a minute. Don't think that has changed tho

More zones ≠ more animals. The amount of animals is always the same on your map. Finding the zones just gives you an icon on the map to keep track of where the zone was. A good way to earn cash right now is red deer on Te Awaroa. You can also hunt wolves in multiplayer so long as you aren’t the current host of the map. The wolves for whatever reason don’t run away from non host players

Remember that various weapons are effective against varying animal classes. So we'll typically carry a few to hunt various animals - unless you're hunting something specific of course.

So you see your question is too vague, give us some guidelines: what are the options you are considering for instance...

Generally speaking, from the base game, very good guns would be the 7mm (much better than the .470 if you ask me), the rangemaster, the cacciatore shotgun, and the lighter bow.
The lever action rifles are rather short range and underpowered, alas.

Oh, and the 'free' ranger rifle and Sundberg pistol are excellent weapons you don't even need to spend money on. 😛

a rifle for class 1, class 2-3, class 4-6, and class 7-9
the class 1 will be filled by one of the .22LR's or .22H
class 2-3 is almost always the .243
class 4-6 is your choice of 4-8 rifle
class 7-9 is the .300 or .338

there are plenty of ways to mix things up tho

one loadout i experimented with was the .22H (class 1-2), mosin (class 3-7, tho i used it for class 3-6), .300 (class 7-9), and a shotgun for the random birds that fly over me

Don't worry too much about chasing rares, diamonds focus on leveling and unlocking skills and spend your money sparingly, best to save for milestone things like a new weapon that is higher tears so you can hunt more species, tents and tripods etc Also as a beginner I would just run around and shoot everything you see so you can get money faster, but of course if you see a diamond or rare don't shoot unless you have proper weapon and it's a clean shot so you don't ruin the trophy, also with low level skills and optics it's best to try and stealth in on those rarer animals and get as close as you can.

I've been making a good few of these now. Since this is a game and we don't have to recalibrate the scopes or think about humidity, ammo quality etc. It works like a charm.
