Hi, I just got the game what pointers tips or advice can you guys give me? is there any tutorials you can recommend?

Do the first few missions on the starter maps use the tutorial section in the codex and kill everything you find and I recommend doing missions to get money and level up pretty fast

And there's a shooting range in the bottom right corner on that little island that looks like it has a road stretching to it on hirsch or you can practice all day for free without having to buy ammo

Some things I wish the game had taught me early:
-Practice patience, seriously, this is a game of patience.
-When you walk around, learn a tendency to go for high ground and to skirt cover, but don't walk/run through noisy grasses (watch that noise meter), crouch-walk through it instead.
-When you hear an animal warning cry, drop to the ground, then gauge the wind to decide if you'll stalk in that direction/crouch towards cover. Animals take ~15 seconds to calm down from 'alert'.
-To kill an animal properly try to shoot it in the lungs. AKA, upper torso, the lower two thirds. (Higher third you may hit shoulderblades). The heart is typically between the 'elbows'. You can try for the cervical spine but it's a harder target.
-It is capital to explore and spot 'need zones', those zones will be how you ambush specific animals and learn which areas of the maps animal hang around in.
-Hunting around lakes is grand, but you gotta learn which lakes have which animals, and their drink times... hang on...

Oh! Another important tip: When you fast travel, animals within 200m of arrival 'vanish'.

Ah yes, I remember that one now, I found a spot on the east coast and... the first time I hid in a bush the deer walks right by me and got spooked before they went drinking. Had to hide elsewhere and wait another hour, haha!

Just spotted a Legendary lynx at 10:30 by a lake in revontuli, didn't carry a suitable gun so had to travel back to an outpost to grab the mosin. Now I can't seem to find the tracks. Is my best bet resetting time to drink time and go to the lake and wait for him?

Are you using the fast crawl, or the slow crawl?
And personally, I have better luck hiding in a handy bush and using a caller to draw -them- closer. That way I can typically get a 15-30m shot

Checklist, cheesecake:
1-Are you using the slow crawl instead of the fast crawl? (which does a bit too much noise for <50m)
2-Are you using a big backpack? Those will make you more visible.
3-Do you have the Soft Feet skill? And maybe improvised blind?

BTW, the ambush skill 'spotting knowledge' at level 3 is really handy to get a better read on how alert an animal is. With it (and tagging the animal) I know to lie low and stay still when they become alert, wait a bit, and advance when they're calm. It's -really- useful for a stalker.

that reminds me. Maybe you already spooked the animal and therefore it is "nervous" which you can see with said skill. In this state its not a good Idea to sneak in.

Heck, on Hirsch I never seem to have a good bush handy, now I just lay on my belly and stay still more often. 😛
One more thing cheesecake: some animals are a lot more perceptive than others. I don't fancy the chances of even a really good hunter to get within 30m of a coyote, say.

Are you going for a quick kill mission or something like that? Because if not I’d just stick with broadside lung shots. If you are trying to get quick kill maybe go for neck shots since there’s less flesh to penetrate through

I think you're trying to get -too- close. Personally I'd favor using a lure while hidden in a perfect bush to get any closer than 30m. You've made it to about 30m to 40m I hope?

Do you have the ''spotting knowledge' skill at level 3? It'll help you better gauge when to stop.

Maybe use the crossbow in the meantime till you get that 'spotting knowledge' skill to really gauge what's happening to the animal's mood.

I have reached the 30 meter mark but the main problem is i want to use the recurve bows and i havent really gauged how well they shoot in the 50-70 meter range so i try to play it safe by getting closer

Just got the game and had some questions about need zones. Does it take a while in game for need zones to generate when you load into a reserve? Do I need to look around during the times that animals are active in their need zones? Do the need zones instantly generate on map load?

Personally I loved having that for the while I couldn't yet get the rangefinder binocs. Once you do have the rangefinder binoculars it loses its usefulness.
Good to know: it doesn't give a precise number, it gives an estimate like 'between 120 and 145m'.

You will need to examine first blood, next footsteps, and finally the sawblade. If you examine the sawblade before the footprints the mission will teleport you to an outpost and will state that all objectives were completed but fails to fully progress. If you are stuck on this mission, go back to the area where the evidence was and explore for all remaining evidence. Once all evidence is examined, the mission should finally successfully complete properly and allow you to move onto the next mission "The Ascent"

They all are useful. Weapon pack one gives you the 22lr which is a beast for class 1. The mosin comes in 2 or 3 and destroys class 3. Smoking barrels comes with the m1, 10 gauge and muzzleloader which all are great when used correctly. MRP is only good for the 308 because the 223 is awful and the 22ar isn’t as good as the LR

They’re the animal rating system. For example, wildebeest score up to 40 (which is max since they don’t have truscore. Also I’ll explain a truscore animal later on) and every score leading up to 40 is rewarded a medal (bronze, silver, gold and diamond). For each medal there is a score requirement that has to be met, for diamond the score is 37.6 I believe. There’s also some more requirements called harvest checks that have to be passed to get the full medal and if any of them aren’t passed then the medal will drop one. The harvest checks are don’t hit the animal in the skull (some species like the gators don’t have this requirement), hit a vital organ (some species also don’t require a vital like the turkeys and duck), can’t shoot an animal more than twice and use the correct ammo.

You can unlock a skill that shows you the score estimate and if that bottom estimate is over the diamond requirement it’ll make it. Also some animals have what’s called big horns or rack which are guaranteed to be diamond. You also have to pass all harvest checks

The safest shot on almost all species is while they’re broadside and right behind the shoulder. Also make sure you’re using the correct weapon cause if you used the 243 on the moose it will take forever to die even with 6 shots because the 243 is the wrong weapon class

When you level up you get skill or perk points (one level you get a perk point ther other you get skill) which you can go to the skill or perk trees and use them to unlock useful upgrades. Since you want to know how to get the zeroing I’ll use that as an example. So the perk tree is split into four different sections which are based off of each weapon type (rifle, shotgun, handgun and bow), so you’ll want to go to rifle to get the zeroing perk. Once you’re in the rifle perk tree it just works like any other upgrade tree where you have to spend points to get farther along

This is a heart shot on a deer species, but the lungs are the big organ just above it. Of you aim for the crease just behind the front shoulder you’ll get the lungs every time. Just be careful with lower-pen guns of the shoulder blade.

And they typically won’t drop from a lung shot, go up to where it was standing and blood trail it to where it dies

Not a problem. That tree has a nice wide open view over the river there, get there at like, 19:50 from the nearby outpost and just chill for awhile, you'll see an opportunity eventually

And after you make a shot.....check the bottom of your tree before you call it quits, you might of actually killed what you shot

Zeroing is when the gun is adjusted so that at a certain distance, the bullet will hit directly in the centre of your reticle, so if you zero for 150 meters and shoot at a target 150 meters away, the bullet will have hit directly at the centre of where your reticle was at when you fired

Same applies for when it’s zeroed for further away or closer to you

Yes. Ingame most rifles zero for 75m, 150m and 300m. If you shoot past that the bullet will still drop, especially when zeroed for 75m. So if you intend on shooting at ranges of 350-400m you should still aim just a tad higher

When you zero for the shortest distance, the bullet is adjusted to fire at a very short range, so it won’t travel as far compared to when you zero for 150/300 meters
