Another issue is the current workarounds to shooting mobile animals (that aren't Alarmed).

Method 1- the perk that literally does exactly that. Startle Call.

Method 2- shooting near the target with a .22lr or .45 air.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with killing every male in a herd as long as you don't deadzone the zone. Don't shoot 5 not in a stand for example. And as long as you absolutely do not also kill a doe or multiple does.

Great to know. Was just adding emphasis on what you wrote because it's so true. And like yes you can herd manage within herds them self like elk for example. But yeah in most grinds especially g1. There isnt any reason to leave any males out side of what you said 1 down mutiple bucks. Thats rare I don't think I've actually seen that in game. But I'll pay more attention now. And may start removing those actually.

The handgun is better for long range single shots due to it's ability to take a 16x scope, and has the advantage of low weight, but the rifle can make rapid follow-up shots and still manage an 8x scope. Both have their value.

Pointers can actually locate all animals except dangerous predators.

Overkilling a herd will cause potential issues.

If you kill all but 1 animal in a herd, that herd will not spawn until you kill the last member. Then, that herd will spawn somewhere else.

Also, if you kill too many animals in a single spot you'll create a Deadzone, while deletes all need zones within that area. Those need zones will move elsewhere and you'll need to re-locate them.

Killing females will also supposedly cause herds to split or other issues, though personally I have never experienced this. I'll even intentionally shoot a female in one herd and a male in another, to make them swap places on respawn.
