Gotta pay irl money for an ATV which is loud and scares animals a LOT but fast and useful.

It’s not strictly necessary and as I said, scares animals—once you’ve unlocked a cabin (or placed a tent, that’s dlc too) you can fast travel to it by clicking on it on the map

You can just hoof it from cabin to cabin for the first time and fast travel afterwards, but most people prefer to do the first exploration on ATV

Some cabins are PoIs marked on your map from the start but some are hidden until you get close. Pretty much all of them, however, exist on roadways or paths which are always visible on the map, so it’s relatively easy to figure out where to go to find one.

You may also figure out their location via the observation towers, perhaps?

For class 2/3 the absolute strongest is the .45 Colt revolver for raw power or the .45 air rifle because it’s practically silenced. Neither are easy guns to use, and there are numerous other, easier options like the quist reaper or .257 or the .243.

For ONLY class 3, .44 magnum is better than .45 Colt—both are extremely damaging vs animals that small, but .44 magnum
has a flatter trajectory than .45 Colt and is easier to shoot.

idk about outposts but i place tents 230-250 m away from my drink zones. afaik the spook distance for tents at least is 180 m but animals can be anywhere around 50 m from their need zones, hence 230-250m

No worries, fyi I place my tents+tripod 270m from any zone PROVIDED I can see more than half of the zone, otherwise I risk it and place my tent 200m and play around exiting the game when I spook animals.

Set tents 250m from need zones to ensure you don't spook the ones that wander a bit from their need zones. The zone itself may be 250m away but animals will loiter around that zone in a pretty wide radius.

Getting into Tripods or Blinds is much quieter, I set my crossbow tripod up 150m from need zones.

you can actually combine the two if you do it right

no tents needed

start 2pm has to be 2pm at the bottom right outpost. you will hear see banteng just run slaughter the way they are running going. you will get multiple herds

then when done with them you fast travel to top right outpost walk forward follow banteng shooting them

all way to coast then finish on crocs

I think there are a few reasons, but the most common one is that squeakers dominate multiplayer and have a tendency to ruin managed maps and beg for dimes, etc. Most established players don't want to play MP when the most likely result is someone else taking your trophies.

I have maps specifically for hosting MP and will join others to help set up grinds and such, but 90% of my play is solo.

A pack of wolves is not that easy to deal with (well most will just scare away) but still

I think hunting specific species in groups for safety is more an exception than a rule. If you're hunting something in a group because you're otherwise more likely to die, that doesn't really carry over to hunting other game.

True but if an area has good herds and enough animals, there's no detriment to group hunting I guess.

I have never tried crossbow or bow hunting irl, in my opinion i feel like i would just wound the animal for no reason. I guess it takes more practice than a rifle.

But then again, im not an actual hunter irl, but most of my families were (or vets) so i saw lots of it

Bow hunting is something you need to have a real passion for to make confident shots. And it requires a lot of practice. I used to build my own Recurve bows but lost them all in a flood in 2016. Haven't shot a bow since.
