Welcome to the game!

For deer specifically, there are a lot of great options that will depend on your hunting preferences.

As far as rifles go, the
.7mm is a great deer rifle and shoots extremely flat, even out to 400m you barely need to adjust (assuming you have unlocked the zeroing perk and can zero to 300m, that is), and it can ethically harvest classes 4 through 9, covering all but the smallest deer species.

For equipment, range finder binoculars are great, as are the various callers for deer, they're all effective, especially if you pair them with hunting structure to reduce your hunting pressure on kills significantly, allowing 15 kills in the same area.

Finally, the Bloodhound is my favorite for large game, as it can effortlessly track any animal you shoot and ensure those botched shots don't end up a waste. You can track blood and trials yourself, but the dog does it better, and at higher levels will often skip the blood trail entirely and beeline directly for the target.

Yep, it's a hunting game, and unless you put specific focus into making money and speedrunning missions, your progress will be slow. But that's the great thing about this game, there are no time limits!

Ducks will hang out in various spots along the river as well as most of the ponds dotting the map. You can call them in while sitting on a tripod or other hunting structure and wipe them out by the dozen.

Nice elk! The .7mm shoots really flat and is a great first upgrade from the .243. I do wish it was better at penetration at long range though. It can't effectively kill crocs past 300m.

It's a lever action 30-30, And the 30-30 caliber is only slightly better at large-game performance than the .243. You won't notice a difference unless you regularly hunt beyond 200m.

If you're primarily hunting class 4, you won't notice a difference at all.

The .338 is a good choice for long range, large game, but I wouldn't really compare it to the .7mm, since the .7mm has a much wider range of species it can ethically target, making it the better all-rounder, but the .338 will put down class 8 and 9 game faster than the .7mm, and more reliably at long range.

Hey! I spend probably 80% of my hunting time on small game specifically. If you want to find small game like Mink, look for their tracks, follow them and find their need zones. From there you can set up an area to ambush them during active hours. Actually visibly seeing them as you walk around is purely luck, no matter what anyone tells you. Spotting them before they spot you, without the pointer, will require foreknowledge of their need zones or pure luck, either seeing one in an open field while scanning with binoculars/scope or flushing one out as you walk a trail.

The pointer is helpful for reducing the surprise encounters and turning them to your favor, and between the 3 dogs, it's the best passive skill by far imo. Nothing small enough for the retriever ever goes far enough from where it's shot to be troublesome. I like the Pointer/Bloodhound combo skill to aid in tracking at the start and finish of any hunt.

Seeing them while drinking is the easiest method to find their drinking zone, but you can also just walk along the waterline and examine the tracks you see. This is more arduous but can help you find zones you haven't seen. It's also possible that one zone is actually shared by more than one herd, you can examine the zone directly and one herd will light up. If you see more tracks indicating a drinking zone that aren't lit, that's a 2nd herd using the same zone. I don't see this happen often, though, overlap seems somewhat rare for me.

It's possible they were in the zone from 1400-1600. I typically check zones 1hr after they are active, so 1500, and wait for 2hrs to be certain. They aren't particularly punctual, animals.

One simple method to remove hunting pressure from zones you care about, is to set up a waterfowl hunt zone somewhere on the map that is irrelevant to you. A hunting structure and a caller is all you need. Call in ducks/geese etc and shoot them as they come in. Hunting Pressure around the map will fade as you build pressure in your bird setup.

Best part? Hunting Pressure doesn't affect called-in birds, so you never have to relocate it.

No, but it is possible that your respawns are hanging if you've only killed a few animals! As my understanding goes, respawns are based on both time and animals killed, so you need to both play on a map for a minimum of 15ish minutes, and also hunt a certain number of animals, to trigger a respawn. How many that animals is, I don't know. I typically just hammer out geese or ducks to ensure my Fox and Pheasants return.

And I downloaded it and I got on the next morning.

Feeders essentially create feed zones spots for different species depending on the feeder and the feed used. You place them down within range of where the species you want wanders/travels (iirc its like 400m range) and they'll start coming into that spot during their cycle more often than not

As realistically it will never be a diamond for most zpecies along with rare fur types

Also what about diamond hunting, if an animal is diamond and we don't use ethical gun does it lose its trophy? I know our trophy rating lowers but when we put it in lodge it will still show as diamond no?

Just put an animal in the lodge and see for yourself

And in the new trophy dlc you can do plaques and mounts that show the medal without inspecting a specific animal
