I’m not worried about being attacked in a predatory manner, rather in a defensive manner. Normally a bear in the fall would at least try and scare away anything that gets too close to their food sources, but that guy didn’t.

Atleast around here humans are basically part of the landscape to them, plus humans usually fight more than most animals so its just not worth it to them

Could’ve been. Who knows though, bears are scarily intelligent animals and he may have just noticed that I wasn’t much of a threat. He was only about 10 miles outside of the nearest town so he had probably had a few run ins with humans, but either way, it’s scary knowing that I wasn’t much that close to an animal that very easily could’ve killed me.

Yeah it was a Black Bear. Big male though, I estimate somewhere in the area of 450 - 500lbs. It was October so he was pretty fattened up for hibernation
