yeah I'm well aware that in order to get the trophy, you need 100%, but this game doesn't make it clear enough to display penalty in score to earn diamond at a qualify point

Okay so; the harvest check has to meet the following requirements in order to keep its original rating.

1. Use the correct ammo class. (Bullet icon)
2. Only shoot the animal a maximum of 2 times. (Crosshair icon)
3. Hit a vital organ. (Heart icon)
4. Do not damage the trophy organ. (Antler icon)

If any of these requirements are NOT met (ie. Animals dies after being struck in the stomach but no other organ, animal is shot with the wrong ammo) then the trophy rating is bumped down, and it’s respective icon turns red; so a guaranteed diamond would go down to gold, a gold would go down to silver, etc. For certain in-game birds theres a 5th harvest check requirement that means you have to shoot the bird while it’s flying in order to even get a trophy rating at all, such as the ring necked pheasant.

The scores only tell you what the rating of the animal may be, but it does not guarantee that specific rating unless you meet all 4 harvest check requirements.

So if you shoot a… diamond wolf in the brain for example? It gets bumped down to gold no matter what its score is, because its trophy organ is the skull.

Same thing for a bronze rated animal, because of the bumping down thing; its rating would just change to “none”. Make sense?

There is a perk/skill in the game that allows you to see the range score on the animal so you can better pinpoint what the rating will be when harvested, and there’s an app called COTW Companion that tells you what the score has to be to make those ratings.

The grind makes it feel like you're in a high-fence trophy region and the deer are all fatted up, ripe and ready for the shooting

That’s purely luck in that case. Afaik wolves aren’t affected by it that we know of, yet
