It would be great to take 2 roles to coop, the tracker and the shooter, that way you can even to roleplay and earn 50%/50% of experience each player.
I could mark the animal and you could take a better position to shoot, and in case od bird hunting i could make birds fly in the shooter direction, stuff like that, It's quite simple, but it allows for the implementation of new mechanics that aren't as complex as loot splitting.
I've had the good fortune to hunt in person, and the best way to do it is always with someone to support you.

For example, my friend will track and spot things for me, or even flush them with their pointer and I’ll do the same for them. Your new friend might not be able to do all of that in return for you but at least you can guide with your skills/perks
