It will take a little longer for that second part as we currently have the game running on two platforms, the farming saving issue is happening on the xbox, and the world itself is saved on a different windows pc that is hosting the server (both within the home)

We believe the issue is a possible overheating problem as whenever it crashes there is a lot of heat coming off the top of the console.

Yes, only the xbox crashes and the other two pc's stay connected.

Every time we are farming and the game saves while farmg, usually the xbox player is alone and the other two are out in the world somewhere.

Try to first turn off your console, then physically unplug it from power for 30 sec, then plug the power cable back in, turn it on, launch Valheim, open manage saves menu, select this save below and this the restore button:

Also, do you happen to have a PC as well? Would be a good idea to make use of it to backup your current backups manually

Hey, so I had this problem before. I launch the game from the xbox app and I just get stuck in a black screen with the sword cursor. I've check the c:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts and the services have the start up type on automatic. What do I do now?

Although it's probably your system files that are broken, I would also recommend doing a CGNAT test, like I described here:
#xbox-bugs-discussion message which might tell us if you have some restriction posed by your Internet service provider.

Seems like you are behind double NAT, which might be the source of problems.
Have you double checked that you indeed don't have any mention of VPN in the network adapters list in device manager?
Do you have multiple routers in your home?

When you go to start → type reliability history → do you see any errors there?

And after that, I would take mobile phone, disable WiFi on it, enable Mobile Internet data, temporarily turn off your home router, connect your mobile phone to PC via USB, enable USB tethering on your phone, which will allow your PC to connect to the Internet through your phone, thus avoiding the potentially double NAT that you are behind.

my game dont save my boat, idk why, but every time i make a boat (Karva one or something like that) and i save the game having it in my world or being in it, and i load this save, thr boat just dissappears, my character is now in the middle of the ocean having no chance of going to land or surviving that, help

By saving your are not creating a manual save. Saving only overwrites the previous save.
Saves are also separate when it comes to world and characters. So if you want to restore prevous save, you have to restore two saves, both character and world.

Hello everyone. I have Valheim on Xbox console and also on PC(Steam). On PC I can select Ukrainian language, but on Xbox I can't. Is there anyway to enable it on Xbox console?

Microsoft only allows professionally translated languages to be shown in games. Some languages on PC as community translated and have errors, and why they are not available on Xbox, yet.

I understand that, but AFAIK Ukrainian is not a community translation. Also this language is available on version from Microsoft Store on PC, not only on Steam.
Check it on screenshots: Ukrainian language (1st pic) doesn't have a * Community Translation note, while Svenska(2nd pic) for example does

PC versions have all community translated languages. Xbox is the only one which requires official translations.
Markers that indicate which translation is official or not, are not correct.
You can look at Italian language for example, which is official, available on Xbox, but still labeled as community translated on PC.
Labeling correctly what is official and what not is low priority issue. It will anyway be corrected on 1.0 when most languages will have to be official.

Be sure that you are playing on separate Xbox and MS accounts. Each device has to have their own.

hi, so when my bf tries to load into his server it doesnt load in anything but the land. theres no trees, rocks, animals, nothing.

I started a new seed a week or so ago while playing online and connected to my WiFi. I played this seed for few days, but I started having an issue where my Xbox wouldn’t connect to WiFi. I am lazy and don’t care that much about online play, and the game still worked fine, so I kept playing offline. This past Saturday, I decided to figure out my WiFi problem, and I had to reset my Xbox to fix it. The problem was fixed and I was able to connect to WiFi. But now my Valheim server and progress is reset back to how it was when I first started this seed (when I had WiFi). All the progress I made offline is gone.

Am I screwed? Is there anyway I can get that progress back?

Do they have a disconnect icon in top left corner of the screen when worlds loads empty or is it their world so loads empty even in singleplayer?

In the latter case they will have to restore an earlier backup of their world (manage saves button in the main menu, expland backup list for the world, try top most backups first)

Did you notice any confirmation box once you hot online as to which save file you would like to choose? Local or Cloud save file?
You can probably also choose an backup that should have some of the latest progress present. Same thing, starting menu → manage saves button → expland backup list for your world → take a photo of it via phone and post it to this channel, so I can say which backup you should most likely be restoring

I tried looking at the “Manage Saves” menu, but the only saves are cloud saves that take me back to Day 3 in my world (I was around Day 100 offline). I did not see an option to choose a local or cloud file, but I do think if I could figure out how to do that it could solve my problem.

Hey a new bug in xbox, the deadzone on the controllers are changed so when you enter menu or crafting menu your ”cursor” will scroll trough and it happens everytime same with the aim (never had stickdrift in other games) problem started with latest bug update that came the 22th

Known issue. Should be fixed via hotfix. Use the Dpad until then to navigate though the menu, but be aware that if you using console1 and 2 layouts, dpad↓ will also initiate sitting animation (another issue).

Can anyone recommend a method of accessing my server files and editing them via mobile? My PC is pretty much bricked. Just trying to update my server with a seed or hopefully a world save to transfer my progress.

Was told to ask for help here, if it's possible haha. I may have to begrudgingly use my laptop but would really like to avoid it if possible. (Long startup times, bogs down intermittently) I figured there'd be a way to just access the config to see what seed I'm running and possibly change it. I'm not trying to mod mobile or anything lol

You can't change the world seed on a already existing save file.
You can potentially create a new save file with a specified seed, but that can't be done via vanilla dedicated server app.

You mean the valheim world generator? If you wish to upload your world file there, you will either need a FTP program or check if your 3rd party hosting website offers you an option to download world files (most of them do).

Crossplay is unfortunately more sensitive to Moderate NAT. I would attempt to call your ISP and ask if they could remove you from NAT or tweak it so that it's less restrictive. That usually goes well for players. Second solution would be to port forward certain ports on Xbox according to Microsoft guide:

Also be aware that if you are playing on Live version of Valheim ,there is a bug where the owner of the world has to kill their Valheim app and restart it every time they want to host a server.

It all depends on Microsoft and Apple authentication process, so not really possible to estimate due to it being in 3rd party control. Due to this, the game version with this issue might even have to be pushed to LIVE, and then a hot fix will follow as soon as possible. Best scenario would be a LIVE version goes tomorrow with the fix, but it can all be delayed and LIVE version might come without the immediate fix.

The current LIVE version with the issue has already been approved by them like a week ago, and it had to be released sooner.

Being told pc key bindings are fine and Xbox is all screwed up. It stops for a minute or two if you change controller settings to something you’re not used to like classic or console 2.

@frosty lily Use Dpad↓ as workaround until patches via hotfix. Works well on classing controller layout, but on console layouts (1 and 2, it's a bit problematic as it will make you go into sitting animation (another bug).

Current work around is destroy portal. Re build portal. Name tag portal immediately. Usually sticks on 2nd try. Has worked on 3rd try. Does not work for re tagging a portal. Must be from blank.

Mixed. Quality allowed renaming on first try tagging. Then stopped functioning on other portals.

Performance allowed renaming on portals after 2-3 tries. On multiple portals.

Other bug I’ve noticed, but may be related to the controller menu bug, is when I face a iron fireplace//bonfire it gives me the “you’re out of wood” yellow subtitle prompt, without any button or input from me to trigger that prompt.

That was Xbox Series X, controller, no keyboard, on all graphic quality settings.

😭😭😭 Lost my Flametal armor. I played last night and had my flametal armor on. After the update, I lunched the game and my character was naked with the cape I had yesterday. I entered the world and it’s all gone. I needed to craft a new one. I’m not 100% sure but I think I also lost all my raw flametal that was in a chest because it’s now empty. Not mentioning the crazy d-pad in inventory menu that also makes me sit down for no reason. I hope it’ll be patched soon.

I plugged a keyboard and mouse into my Xbox and tried to play. It works, I just suck with keyboard and mouse! It’s a cheap wireless mouse though which is likely the key reason I’m sucking.
Plus it’s hard to throw my spear.

Joined the server to see if anyone was having this issue, so far I've been able to work around this by holding the left stick perfectly in the middle and just using the D-pad since the menu sensitivity seems to be like a krillion percent which means that the mildest stick drift makes it go berserk, got a pro controller and even increasing the diameter of the dead-zone on the left stick doesn't change it so it's overriding it somehow(?)

In your settings, under graphics, there are three modes. Quality, which prioritizes graphics over fps, performance, which prioritizes FPS over graphics and a balanced mode that goes in between.

Struggling to name signs. Performance mode seems more reliable to name the signs. Balanced mode didn’t seem to work. On xbox, using controller with hotfix update.

Still get occasional build menu haywire scroll. Inventory menu works consistently.

Microsoft removed it from game pass on their own accord.
It's not a file, rather 16MB file chunks that Steam can't read, so it can't be read by Steam, unless you manage to launch the game and move the save file from Cloud to Local, after which Steam will be able to read it.

I got the update, logged in, yes I see the problem with naming the portals—the building inventory, character inventory, and chest inventory is “somewhat” fixed (but 100x better then before) —pressing down on d-pad when in building is fixed

Also I’m noticing if your characters running mechanic is a little weird it gets a bit better with “auto-run” off—I will also mention if you have your crafting skill at 100 it still crafts like you have it at zero which brings the question of how many other skills are screwed up and which ones.

Yeah, controller scrolling is still occurring with me. It is not as bad, but now it's included not only in my invsntory/build menu/you get the point; my character slides all over now. Not too badly, but it's noticeable. Tested and updated controller, same result.

You most likely have a stick on controller that is not centered. Can you try re-calibrating deadzones on Xbox device settings?

I can't change the name of any tamed creatures, portal tags, or change signs. My controller works fine, been playing another game all day. Alright I got ahold of a controller with no deadzone issues. The problem with Valheim persists. (Being more in-depth here just for the bug discussion). Both joysticks are in good condition with no drift and as proven, are calibrated properly and not off centre. New video with different character/world, same version (ss-0 219.14). For maybe unnecessary clarification, I'm on series s (as the game version identifies.)

It's still quite bad and I still do slightly drift when character walking (just didn't catch it in video, my apologies.), though not as much as with my previous controller.

Fyi several xbox people are having their powers go off all the time, over and over again. It never stops.
Also I get notices for things that need refills even when I didn't click on them, but rather just walked past them. (Like getting notices of "you have no resin") after passing a torch.

Also fly mode in console commands (xbox) instantly forces the player into a raise position and you have to hit raise twice to make it stop. This is not normal.

Oh and portals renaming is semi broken. I typed in 11 several times and finally it stuck, but it took at least 15 tries.

I've since now confirmed it's 100% Valheim by using different controllers, connecting them to my Xbox in different ways, configuring/testing my controller for drift/off center calibration in device settings, and playing other games where I experience no drift and no problem whatsoever. I mentioned to you why already. You have a controller that has off centre sticks or sticks that don't return to centre when you stop using them. That is however not the main issue. Valheim is the main issue, as it should be able to accommodate even those controller with issues, just like other games do that don't require deadzones being set close to 0. Valheim is not competitive rocket league that requires precise controller sens on low dead zones.

I don't have issues on Xbox SS controller, but have major issues on Xbox 360 controller on PC, which is one of the most notorious controllers when it comes to sticks not returning to the center that I ever used for Rocket League. Even new controller can have this issues if sticks become unclean. That same Xbox 360 controller don't have issues on pre Bog Witch update, nor in other games that are not sensitive.

Depends on the controller. New clean controllers are generally fine. Some controller that have a sticks that don't return to the center still have issues.

Yeah, there are some known issues with Egypt blocking PlayFab services that Valheim uses for multiplayer. They don't block Steam servers, but since you bought the game on Xbox PC app, you don't have access to Steam servers. Reportedly hideallip VPN works well to bypass these issues. Who's your ISP in Egypt?

It's a known issue. You might need a couple of tried for portal to regiser name changes, try both perfromance graphics mode and quality mode to see in which one the game registers the changes better, until this gets fixed.

The inventory issue was well known, but after the "fix" I can't be the only one who's valheim feels much more flighty than it used to be. My right stick feels like it drifts and I've noticed the cross hair drifting. This happens with all directions so I don't believe it to be my controller (which is basically brand new)

The most effective steps seem to be... open prompt, hit delete, open guide, close guide with xbox button, hit delete at least 11 times, enter text and exit like usual. And you'll need to cycle through controller layouts if you noticed the keyboard binding when looking at the portal

Pain in the ass and definitely not gonna be good for laying down escape portals in a pinch

Just when at the base she will have me put stuff away because her inventory will entirely fuck off at times and be a scroll fest. Sometimes relogging helps for a few minutes. Agreed. It’s not your controller. Last time it was impossible to play the game. Now It’s easier to make the drift stop when it happens but it’s not completely gone. Also the waking/running. it’ll sometimes make you just keep sprinting without touching the controller and walking a smidge to the right or left. Which makes it very difficult if you were on a mountain or fighting enemies.

And obviously before the bogwitch update even came out, it was not like this. My controller was absolutely fine with zero problems. That’s why I know for 100% it’s not the controller

This issue will probably be resolves along with others, but what worries me that it might be a separate issue, as it's the only one I can't reproduce. On which console, which controller, and on which controller layout is your friend playing? Can you ask them if they can check if the issue happens when they switch to classic controller layout? (e.g. they can enter their own world, switch to classic controller layout (doesn't activate powers via sticks), then they can open console via LT+LB+start, and type devcommands and then type setpower GP_eikthyr to refresh their bosspower).

Any update on when the inventory scroll bug will be fixed? It got better on xbox series s but it does still happen in any place that has lag. Even swapping weapons it'll happen. It's bad in the ashlands and home base especially but will happen in other biomes aswell. All settings are on low and even relogging doesn't help.

i just came here to ask that question. what has happed is the hotfix turn the sensitivity back down (not quite enough though) but before the hotfit the bug was only in menus, after the hotfix the movement and camera are way too sensitive. i have almost a brand new controller and its not effecting me much. but this game shouldnt require a brand new controller and the most sensitive inputs ive ever seen

The fix is being tested. The issue stemp from a larger issue related the Unity engine, so it takes some time. Not likely that the patch will arrive this week, but still possible.

Got a work around for the portals. Hit prompt to open the text box like naming it normally, press x, press xbox button, press again to close xbox menu, re open prompt to name your portal press x 11 times, input your name and close text box like normal. Your portal should accept it's new name after that. If not, repeat and it should stick the second time

They are aware and working on it. It's an engine issue with unity so takes some time to get it ironed out. The inventory scroll bug is still around aswell which they're aware of aswell. Fingers crossed that they get it soon. Until then some people somewhat found a work around but nothing is concrete. Spin around twice, do 5 jumping Jacks, A,B,A,B, start type stuff lol.

No, chetes don't need your permisson to cheat. If you have a weak password, someone might uninvited might be doing this.
I suggest that you first vising your installation directory, keep it opened and don't close it.
Alt-tab and uninstall the game, while keeping that installation folder opened.
Revisit you installation directory and manually delete leftover files if there are any.

Change your password.
f this continues to happen, you will have to tell your friends one by one to leave the server until you figure out who causes this issues.

I got a simpler variation of this to work. Hit X to rename. Press B, hopefully it closes the Xbox keyboard but leaves the Valheim rename dialog up. If not, repeat until it does. Then hit the Xbox button to open the Xbox menu, then close the Xbox menu. Now hit A in the Valheim rename dialog to get the Xbox keyboard to open again. You can now successfully rename.

A couple issues I’ve had on Xbox. There’s still some quick jumps in the menus when navigating but better since the patch. Portal naming is hit or miss, have to try a number of times. Can’t seem to name any tamed animals, assuming the same issues as portal naming.

Same issues for me but havent bothered taming anything. Also. Boat auto turning to the right. Character continues to move after i stop especially after moving to the right (no stick drift brand new controller). Auto interactions with things like stones one ground or fully grown crops however it only takes them into a state where i can pick them up and wont pick them up if i look at them even tho its the same button (fixable by just pressing the button). Switching from character inventory to chest inventory sometimes takes a few tries before it works. Will update with anything else i remember or notice

I play on Xbox series X and I am currently on day 450 in my world. I went to load the game and when I enter the map there is nothing left. No trees, no enemies, no buildings, nothing. I loaded 4 other previous save files, all the same.. nothing. Is there a way to fix this?? I have spent many many many hours building and gathering resources for my base and if there’s no fix I’m afraid this will be the last time I play valheim☹️

It might be then related to the fact that you've built those pieces on the edge of the loading zone.

Or by opening a performance view (L1+L2+select), you can see the instance count above, which always resets when you cross a loading cell boarder.
Try passing underneath the roof pieces that get destroyed, to see if that instance count resets.

@twin steeple I didn't notice any big change in instances. But also the roof would have to cross several of those lines yes? As the issue happens in different parts of the house. Right now I'm happy with it either way, as it doesn't break them just damages them a little one time. Never more than the little bit. I will keep on eye on them to see if they ever get more damaged or physically break over time.
Plus if those lines were the issue wouldn't that damage my walls and floors in that spot as well?

Oh, right, if you see damage then it's not that issue.
Those lines are usually responsible for objects losing structural integrity due to loading at different times, and when that happens, they just crumble as opposed to get damaged.
How old is your base and have you played in multiplayer around it?

This is a new world that i started maybe two weeks ago. I didn't start building anything till a few days ago though. So probably no more than 7 days at best. But in game I think it's 60 days. And not yet but will eventually.
I was on my friends world and she also has ashwood beams on her roof and we noticed the same issue. Hers is a bit older... maybe a month or so. But again they took damage, showed the sparks, but never broke. We never saw it again until we repaired it.
And it was her. Me and another friend together the first time, then just me and her the second time after repairing.

-3 players (2 on Xbox, 1 on PC) = Everything runs perfectly.

-Add one more Xbox player, and suddenly everyone except the host (on Xbox) experiences major lag and disconnects.

Hello, I just bought Valheim for a friend Via Microsoft Store. He pays for XBox Live Gold subscription so he does have multiplayer. I bought him Valheim (Game Preview) for 20 USD, and he can only play the game solo. Everytime he attempts to click on the "Join Server" page, or the "Start Server" checkbox, it prompts him to buy Xbox Gamepass Subscription, which he does not own. What's going on here?

Valheim is not available for download on gamepass anymore, but that doesn't mean it can't be plaued in multiplayer. The game has to be bought + you have to have appropriate subscription. Multiplayer works perfectly fine for my Ultimate subscription.

Turn off the console and unplug the power cable after for 30s. Then on next load wait longer for game to load, until it loads.

Ceramic plated don't float, so probably on the bottom of ocean. If you haven't picked them up in 2 in-game days, they probably despawned.

Xbox One has some issues with save management due to lack of RAM memory. 14MB save should be fine tho, so make sure to keep the RAM usage low.
You do that by not manually saving, and I would also recommend to completely restart the game every 1h30min of playing (close the game completely though Xbox menu) and then restart it.

I just had something strange happen. Playing a no map no portal run and earlier in the day I had sailed back to my main base from a swamp farm. I was growing crops and planning my next trip. Logged out. Logged back in and now I’m back in the swamp, but my boat is gone! And some inventory items are missing as well, but I’m in the swamp in terms of progression and just earlier when at my main base cooked wolf meat for the first time and I have it in my inventory (though no other food).

I’ve come across a weird bug recently where the graphics in game will not register properly and look more pixilated and less smooth. Is this due to quick save? Restarting the game will fix this.

I'm also on xbox; this game (and a lot of others) really don't like "quick resume". Exiting the game fully (guide button, highlight game, start button, "quit game") solves most issues on console.

Any fixes for the empty world bug? Here are our circumstances and when it's happening in case it helps:

• World is saved on an Xbox X/S
• Multiplayer world that is crossplatform- one on Xbox X/S, one on PC via Steam
• When loading into world for first time of the day, it loads in completely empty. All items, housing, trees, bushes, enemies everything is gone and its just empty land. Trying to load an old world save sometimes works, but often times even the next most recent save is corrupted as well so we have to go back even further. This is especially an issue since we keep losing hours and hours of playtime having to keep going back farther in our save.

Quit the game entirely after finishing playing to avoid it from happening (Xbox menu → Valheim → Quit)

Also don't save spam. E.g. logging out will initiate a save anyway, so no reason to save before logging out.

You would need to log in with your Xbox account into Xbox PC app, install Valheim there, launch it and access the in-game manage saves menu. There you can move a save from Cloud to Local, grab the save file and do what ever you want with it. Not possible to grab a save without the PC if you only have access to the console.

You'll need to restart the console. Best to do a power cycle. Logout, quit the game from Xbox menu, turn off console, unplug from power cable for 30 sec, boot everything up again.

It is 100% a quick resume issue. Just about any game w a large world space does not get along w quick resume. I really wish there was an option to turn it off on a game by game basis instead of all or nothing.

Your Valheim saves should still be in Xbox Cloud, so if you buy the game on Xbox, they should be available.
There's no info on whether Microsoft is thinking about putting Valheim back on gamepass or not.

You still have mods installed. To delete mods you manually have to wipe the installation folder from modded files.

Default installation should be at C:\XboxGames\Valheim

Check that one of you is not behind a VPN first. Go to start → type device manager → open it → Under network adapters check if there is any mention of VPN

You connection issues might also be temporary in your region. Both of you can test joining some random server in the community tab to see if you can at least reach a password prompt

Yes you will. Servers that are supposed to matchmake players over crossplay apparently do not work in your region.
It would probably be the same even if you had the game on steam and tried to use crossplay. It's usually gets resolved under 24h
I'm of course saying this under assumption that you ALL indeed tested connecting to random servers and connection to htem fails before password popup.
Steam version of Valheim has additional Steam networking, which is more reliable and would work.

Hey guys and gals, there has been a bug that happens when playing valhiem on a server where it causes voice chats(discord or Xbox party) to be extremely laggy and choppy. after a bunch of trouble shooting and testing and setting changes and WiFi troubleshooting as well as trying it on any other game we have concluded that it’s something to do with the glorious game we love valheim

It has also been discussed on Reddit so it’s not an isolated issue with just us

Valheim sends and receives a lot of data, and which can create problems in voice apps if one's network has buffer bloat (latency increases during upload/download). Here's an example of a player using Discord while not playing Valheim vs playing Valheim.

You can see an large +197ms latency that was causing audio to stutter.

You should identify which teammate of yours has this problem.

Probably an issue with file permission on the disk you installed it, or not all Xbox services not working on your Windows, or just Xbox Cloud being temporarily unavailable due to some issue on Microsoft servers.

Try reinstalling the game on C drive, the default drive first.

Try to see which one from you two can reach a password prompt for some random server in the community server list.
The one who can't has networks problems they would have to solve. If both of you can't reach a password prompt for a random server, then there's probably a temporary crossplay issue in your region. Let me know who from you has issue after you test this.

That indeed looks fine. Where are you from? Some countries can't use crossplay, like Egypt.
There might also be a temporary crossplay issue in your country.
We can also do a trace route test to a google server to find out if your Internet Server provider put you behind some kind of NAT that's blocking crossplay.

To test that you would have to go to start → type cmd and open the black console → type tracert 8.8.8.8 and hit enter so that the test starts.
It usually takes 5min to complete, and after it you will all the routers you are going through when you try to reach a google server.
First IP usually starts with 192, but if other IP after that start with 10, 100, or via 172, it would mean you are behind NAT.

Each game has their own crossplay solution. Valheim uses Microsoft one called PlayFab.

You are basically behind two routers + some more routers we don't get response from because they have a setting to not return ping info + then on top of that you are also behind 5 routers from your Internet service provider (10...). If we compare your trace rouhte to the problematic one above, yours is much worse. Basically before you get a direct access to the internet, instead of there being one rouhter between you and the Internet, you have 11 of them.

You probably won't be able to fix this on your own, rather you can call your ISP (Internet service provider) and ask them why you are behind so many routers, which prevent Valheim from functioning. Do you know how many network devices/routers/modems are in your house?

Hi all. I’ve been playing for about two weeks (LOVE it, great job) but now experiencing game crashes when using one specific set of portals. I’ve destroyed and rebuilt them, even given them a different name, yet using them crashes the game back to Xbox Home Screen.

I was running a server when it first happened but my guests had left. It also happened when I wasn’t running a server, just playing solo.

Connects shoreline meadows/black forest location to Black Forest/mountain location at some distance. I have another portal close by to the same Black Forest/mountain location and it works fine.

It would be of extreme help and much appreciated if you could install the game on the Xbox PC app as well via same Xbox account.
That way you will be able to launch the game without any extra charges. We only need to reach the main menu where a manage saves button becomes available.
Select the world save there and move it from Cloud to Local.
When that is done, you can go back to in-game starting screen where you will see a white button in bottom left corner called "show player.log"
Pressing that button will lead you to a folder where Valheim keeps Local saves, called worlds_local. We would need worldname.db and worldname.fwl file to inspect it, so best would be to copy those two files to some other location, upload it to google drive or something like easyupload.io and send me the link to the files via DM.
After you send the files, you would have to go back into the starting menu on PC and move the save from Local back to Cloud.

Microsoft sync saves whenever they decide to. You will have to keep Xbox app open on PC for some time for them to upload saves to Cloud.

For me it usually takes up to 1h

service called gamingservices.exe is responsible for uploading saves to Xbox Cloud, so if it takes more than an hour to sync them, try repairing that service (start → apps → gaming services → advanced → repair)

It's not possible to not store the Valheim save files on Cloud. You might have been asked which save you want to load, the one in Cloud or the one that was already on Xbox. Are you playing on multiple devices?

There should not be such message on Xbox.
You probably had this one:
Your console has newer or different locally saved data than what’s saved in the cloud, usually after you play offline. Then you are offered a choice to select which saved data to use, the locally saved or the cloud saved version.

Games can't save locally only on Xbox, each save has to be in the Cloud as well.

However if you select the option of choosing locally saved data, then the Cloud save will be overwritten, and be the local save will become the new Cloud save.

If you played offline, the saves were saves locally only, so when you went Online, if you've chosen Cloud save, your latest save probably got replaced by the Cloud one. However you should have some backups to restore.

Just don't do any restoration before rebooting the console properly.

As a general advice, after you finish playing Valheim, always close Valheim app from the Xbox menu and don't keep it in quick resume.

If you already played once togheter, it's probably a temporary issue in your region. Unless you enabled VPN or something.

Generally, to find out who has the issue, both of you should attempt to connect to some random crossplay server in the community tab.
Xbox players anyway only see crossplay servers, but since you are on Steam, you will have to specifically pay attention to test a community server that had intertwined icon next to their name 🔀

Question/statement
Lately every time I log out of my game (no matter which character or world) I get a white circle on the main screen and my character is black. I'm on Xbox series x. If I open the xbox commands the circle goes away. Seems to have no effect on the game itself, but curious why all of a sudden it does that.

We got few reports but not enough info to conclude what's causing it.
Can you share a screenshot/phone pic of your character inventory that was in the menu when this happened?

It's actually the front screen of valheim. But I will take a picture of it and upload.

I know that you are talking about the starting screen.
However the only different between your screen and mine is the character, hence I would like to know what was in your inventory when this happened, as the character will have those things equipped.

Ahhh ok got ya. See how the character slowly loads in and then is there. Again if I hit anything not in relation to valheim it fixes itself.
Now as for my character I hope you can see everything correctly. Mostly all iron stuff, minus the frostner and some potions.

Quality is what it said on main screen, but I run performance most of the time in game.

That's a bit peculiar then, as starting menu setting should be the same as in-world settings.

When you log out, it still says quality?

Yes still showing quality, but I do have to reset it to performance in game every time.

That's probably the cause of the issues, and probably happened due to a clash between how settings worked on earlier Valheim versions compared to the new. I would recommend resetting Valheim settings in general.

I you decide to do it, this is how:
Open Xbox menu, select Valheim, press start button, and choose to quit Valhiem from the Xbox menu. Then press the menu button while selecting Valheim in your Xbox home → goto manage game and add-ons → saves data → delete both reserved spaces. After that do the power cycle of the console (turn off, unplug power cable for 30sec, turn back on).

That seems to have fixed it. No difference in settings now. So far no white screen.

Let me know if you stumble upon it again. There is currently a bug that messes up the setting if one toggles soft particles off and on, so prob avoid that.

Could be a temporary issue, caused by your VPN (NordVPN - service has to be disabled), or could be related to your CGNAT (unlikely if it worked before).

Do you see any VPN installed when you visit start → device manager → network adapters?

Disabled warp? VPNs are generally not compatible with crossplay. They usually have to be tweaked to use specific protocols or setup tunneling for Valheim

I just had it happen twice, that I was suddenly overweight mid-combat. Is there a known bug with auto-pickup or is the bug where buttons jammed still an issue? I am certain that I did not press X and accidentally picked up something myself.

Just tested this. Dunno what you're seeing, but it only counts as 1 for me

Best to go to capture setting and enable recording lenght of 3min. That way when something happens, you can capture last 3 min of gameplay and check what happened. I had suspicions about the same issue happening on my side, then checked the footage and noticed my self picking berries in the middle of combat.

Hmm, im not sure how a recording would help. I guess that greydwarf drops "got picked up" but Im sure that I did not press the X-Button

Something interesting I found is, when I open the Xbox app and play on my computer it is 0.219, and when I’m on my Xbox it is 0.220. I can play on servers just fine with my computer playing through the Xbox app. It must be something with our Xbox’s, what Xbox do you have?

That was it, a while back I had to install insider, because Xbox was behind on updates and pc was ahead by a bit. So for anybody with the problem in the future install insider and update Valheim.
