but he literally stood still, i moved abit and no reaction, only after his hp is down to like 10% i went close and he started attacking again

I've got an apparent server incompatibility issue. When I run the dedicated server's (PC) update commandline ("C:\SteamCMD\steamcmd.exe" +login anonymous +app_update 896660 -beta none +quit) it doesn't think there's any updates. The server is on version 0.218.15 but the latest (Steam) client version is 0.219.16 ... so my players can't play.
Is it because the game's Steam appID is actually 892970 while my update script is pulling 896660? That's always worked in the past.
Update: Changed my update script and that seems to have worked.
"C:\SteamCMD\steamcmd.exe" +login anonymous +force_install_dir C:\Valheim +app_update 896660 validate +exit
Actually it fussed at me for using force_install_dir after the login, so here's a better commandline:

The Quadro is turned off because I don't need performances right now, but when I launch a game like Valheim I turn it on of course.
Anyway, don't know who is in charge of compatibility but thanks him/her for the job : being able to play good games without need to "tinker" a bit each time is a precious gift 🙂

Anyone noticing items being placed under the ground more frequently this patch, e.g. metals vanishing? First run 7 metal bars went missing, second run a box ended up in the water despite there being land there. only reason it shows is because a water wave is letting it show. it later popped up properly, had to look at the replay to see this. Was searching for bronze nails for a good 10 minutes x) no mods.

Now fixed bug was responsible for upgrade bonuses as well.
Equipped fishing baits do not stack in a container (when holding E or clicking Place Stacks button).

found a bug where going through a portal, if u spam a food item, itll use it and youll still have the same amount, meaning basically unlimited food.
Is it a bug that when crafting arrows at X20 that if the crafting skill activates you only get X21 Instead of a doubled X40?

thats horrible, wish they would get rid of it for arrows then in which case I'm a bit ocd and hate having uneven stacks of arrows
same. It's even worse for food.
I collect just enough mats to make the food i need, and just enough for full stacks of food, then cooking and farming skills mess it up.

I'm getting more advanced raids than I should on my single player world where only Eikthyr has been killed. I've gotten surtling and the troll raids. I am on an old character from another playthrough, but I don't have the player-based raids modifier turned on, so this shouldn't matter, right?

I can't produce a mead for troll strength even though I have the resources. I think it's because I have one "quality one" troll fish and another "quality two" troll fish
correct, since higher tiered fish are worth more raw fish than t1 fish, the potion recipes can only use t1 fish

This response is outright incorrect as I have just used higher tier fish for potions
Ah, apologies, after very quickly testing it does seem like it will only count fish of the same tier for the requirements. Oddly enough, it will then mix tiers freely when actually crafting

Hello, in my game on Steam, I have gotten the carrot seeds and bronze plates, I have unlocked the level 3 forge but I don't get the cultivator's revette. am I missing something?

is there any known bug where a friend you play with one day can't connect to a server you been playing in for a bit? Keeps saying failed to connect for him. All vanilla same version and i host the sever with the start sever option.
If all of your teammates are on Steam, disable crossplay before starting the server.

there is a known issue even on the PTB that this can happen in multiplayer. but it's very specific conditions 🤔

Hi, a player on my server is having an issue where they just stand on top of their bed rather than sleeping in it, they also cant interact with ships, and now do not respawn at their bed. they have tried claiming a new bed, verifying files once, and still has not fixed. help please

Anyone else has problems with mouse input stop working while playing Valheim? I have to unplug-plug to make it work again (mouse lights are still on and PC recognizes mouse when bug happens I think so that's weird). I've noticed it's only when playing Valheim and I think alt tabbing might cause it but I'm not sure, it looks so random.

Except mouse and keyboard, do you have any other input devices plugged in?
Your mouse issue could be related to recent updates for Windows 11. Reportedly it broke mouse behaviour for many users.
Although if you are using a wireless mouse, it's probably just losing connection while playing Valheim due to game using more power than you previous games.
Only mouse and keyboard + headshet with mic included, all of them are wired
i got stuck in fader and died, i think after he kinda stands on his hind legs than goes down you can get stuck in the middle of his hitbox and you have to roll a couple of times to get unstuck
that has been fixed in the PTB

Using big picture mode and using the steam keyboard for signs or portals breaks the game
I found them name for example valheim.exe.18716 in the crashdumbs folder(in Local).
But when i open one of them it s unreadable ( stange character etc)

with the player log i crashed when a couple of mob spawner but when i spawned them with command i don t crashed, so i guess this is when i generated Force generating hmap (256.00, 0.00, 5888.00) , because in the old and recent playerLog i crashed at this moment

We had some issue with virtual keyboards, which have been fixed on the patch released 1.5 hours ago.
After picking up the two bows from a stand, i got this bug. Cant do anything with them, they are just stuck and after some time they drop off when running 😂
Also you cant press "e" to pick them up and get them in inventory

sometimes, items becomes wierd when people log out and it takes up to 30 seconds for the game to "unlock" things

This is my first time experiencing this bug. It don't bother me, and it might be a rare bug that don't need bug fixing
Using mods? Can you deconstruct items in single-player? If not, try resetting controls first.
This can happen due to network issues. Hard to guess if related to server, the area you were in, or your connection, in cases when you are the only one on the server.
So this is a server that im hosting from a Norwegian provider, might be a server side issue
But its not a big deal. As long no one else is experiencing this, its all fine
I’ve been struggling with the vine berries we can plant. I just played 2 hours in game and got 12 berries, wow. Something defiantly wrong here. I planted them facing the south thought they would need sunlight directly which they get every single day. Doesn’t seem to matter…. What am I doing wrong?

Askvin Cape bug: Hmmmm I've been testing this for 30 min and the cape doesn't give bonus speed in the wind anymore!
(Same time running from point A to point B in the wind and against the wind)
Also the berries get deleted when you log out, I thought that was gonna be fixed a while back but still an issue. Seems like maybe the timer gets reset also so then it just takes so long to grow them if that’s the case

Anyone else experiencing this bug? I have a charcoal kiln that takes wood but deletes it instead of making charcoal out of it. Also I can't destroy it by any means.

He refused to come down and didnt move - so I just killed him with a spear
But a spawn collision check is probably needed... the white dots were leading to the tree for the spawn i.e. it wasnt him trying to spawn on the ground and he ended up in the tree - the game decided he was spawning up there.
He is just afraid of you

You are letting that fulling win, don't do it, they will think they can just hide from you in stone and they'll keep doing it.
How old is what world?
We are waiting for Steam to make few adjustments.
Meanwhile you can enable proton compatibility mode for Valheim in its steam library properties, which will allow you to use crossplay.
Be sure to wait for entire proton compatibility tools to be installed completely before playing.
Run the game in Vulkan after for performance.

Hey! This Dverg Excavation Site was fulled by Dvergs. When the Dvergs died I mined the Giant Remains and the Black Marble that I couldn't pick up, was in the hole. I placed a portal inside the zone too, breaking the Ward.
The ingame day after that, my portal was disconnected, so I went to the site to see what happened and, after fighting against some seekers, I found that my materials disappeared.
Before report the bug I asked to my friend if he took the materials, since I'm playing in Coop, but no, my portal materials and the remaining Black Marble just disappear.
I play vanilla server, without any mod.
Do you know the seed and location of this?

Doubt they would have any bearing on this, but I play with the following mods: Advize_PlantEasily, AzuCraftyBoxes,MyLittleUI, and SmartContainers
So what happened with the portal, was still there just disconnected?
Yes. It disconnected and the materials to rebuild it disappeared
So when you arrived at location, neither portal was there, nor were portal materials?
Generally when we say portal disconnected, it means that portal is still standing, just that it doesn't have an active connection to another portal
Yes. I thought the seekers I found in the zone could break it, but when I defeat them, I couldn't find the materials to rebuild it

There're only sap that I collected and the materials dropped by the Seekers
What probably happened is that portal got destroyed when the last person was leaving the scene.
All items in Valheim despawn after 1h of gamplay if no other player base building element is near the items.

I reported a couple of date ago a Bug: Bonfire placed on swamp crypt roof affects the fire effect to whole swamp crypt inside area, which is actually way too big to have active effect if bonfire would've built inside the crypt.
Actually there were another crypt on same swamp where the fire effect was on also, when bonfire was on roof of different crypt.
Shelter + fire is quite OP because fast health regen and ongoing rested buff.
Vanilla multiplayer and single player. Tried on 3 different world.
Everything Black metal is two words now, except the bolt, thank you.

There were few fixes related to locations that we hopped would fix this, seems not.
It's not really about the world seed, but a player.log player-prev.log would help if you have it.

dungeon interiors are a few thousand meters up in the sky, after an admittedly pretty long fall, you would've been back on the ground

I think the crafting skill is not applied to stamina potions crafted 40 never had it light up once. I have 39 points in crafting

using the fermenter should not be tied to any skills though

Was the ability to get extra mead bases removed with the latest update? I have level 93 cooking and have crafted over 100 mead bases since the update and not a single extra. but I was getting them about once every 4-5 crafts previously
Yes, there's a chance now to get an extra item when crafting (except armour and weapons). This came in the Bog Witch patch.
it's not crafting tho. .it's cooking.. my understanding is that they removed the ability to get extra armor and weapons when crafting (understandable) but I didn't see anything about mead bases not being able to get extra

Hildir questline is bugged not leading to correct locations this is suppose to be Howling Cavern. Checked all around area no luck, checked under map again no luck.
Was this marked on your map pre-Bog Witch update? As that will have moved POIs around.

right, so with 93 cooking skill, I haven't gotten a single extra when making mead bases in almost 150 crafts now...
crafting food does seem to be working fine..
so I was just curious if I was doing something wrong.. or if others were seeing anything similar
Are you able to check if preparing mead bases gives cooking xp?
You indeed can't get extra yield from crafting meads. Probably unintentional.
Bonus yield has to tweaked in general, as at this moment multi craft can provide too much for stackable items (e.g. +15 Feasts when multi-crafting Feasts).
I'm even thinking bonus yield should be disabled for Feasts and Meads atm, until a better solution is found (e.g. getting extra mead when interacting with Fermenter). Not sure what would be best for Feasts, maybe tweak bonus yield chance.

i feel that, if Valheim recalculates POIs on "patches" - then those patches should be removing the old POIs, knowing they are wrong now

Given that non of this is relevant come 1.0 it's not really necessary to add to the game.
then perhaps a note in patch notes:
"Warning; this patch will result in previous POIs not yet visited to no longer be valid"

It results in me losing all progress made in my world at any given time and I am constantly having to restore backups, losing hours of work in the process
well it's not as simply implemented as it sounds since the marker isn't retroactively tied to the poi - it's just a marker on your map that was placed by a poi based on the current position of another poi
yeah, fair. So maybe just something in patch notes when it would trigger areas been recalulated - so people know? Anyway - just a thought

What do you mean by steam world files not saving?
When you save, a world save file is first stored to your disk, and then when you close the game it gets uploaded to the Steam Cloud.
Regardless of it uploading or not, you should still be able to play on the world save file, even if it didn't fully upload to Steam Cloud.
I don't see how restoring a backup would help you in any way if you have a problem with world save file not saving, so it's confusing what your problem really is. Can you clarify it?
Everytime I close out of Valheim, I get a Steam cloud error. Whenever I try to log back in to Valheim, I get the “your cloud isn’t synced properly” message before opening, and I have to choose to open anyway since the game will not load if I don’t. Once I load in, I select my character, which all of the progress is still there on, select my world, and once I load in to the world, I’m set back at the world spawn with all of my builds and progress in that world deleted

While doing that, I think I fixed it. There was a rogue file in Valheim's local files that totally wasn't meant to be there. I deleted it and it started updating to the cloud again
Now how that file got there is a totally different can of worms that I don't want to open
How did the file look like?
It was titled "world-worldname-backup-auto.db"
So I'm not sure if it was like a corrupted backup, or if something just didn't save right and broke everything or what
Have you ever crashed while saving or shutdown the PC while upload to Steam Cloud was taking place?
Ever tried downloading your saves from the Steam Cluod directly? (those usually have worlds_worldname name formats.

If you are all playing on steam, tell your friends to disable crossplay option before pressing start server button.

Hi I'm having a weird bug with a hearth where it places, I put wood in it, the fire starts up for a few seconds and then dies and it won't burn. In meadows, dry conditions, well ventilated...another hearth in the same structure (which is a mirror image) behaves just fine, the chimneys for both are identical mirrors of each other, and this behavior was evident even before any chimney or surrounding structure was in place yet. Have destructed and rebuilt it and the behavior continues. Help?

Undid the mods and no change. Here's a screenshot of the house...like I said this behavior started when it was a flat floor without walls, the far (west) hearth has always worked but the near (east) hearth never has. They currently have chimneys that are identical mirrors of each other, the far one burns happily but the near one will never stay lit
the ground is level and just below the wood floor, the hearths are not destroying for lack of ground support, just this one won't stay lit. I only have four hearths and one campfire in the entire save file. I've destroyed and rebuilt the hearth multiple times and it always does the same thing.

anyone know how to fix portals breaking, my friends portal keeps stopping working, both sides are still the same name, one side stays active but the other deactivates, keep having to break the portal and rename it
I've done that multiple times, but I think I just figured it out. The ground must be a TINY bit higher at that location so when I build it flush in the floor, it builds but won't stay lit. When I set it so the bottom of the hearth snaps to the floor instead of the top of the hearth, it stays lit

Try breaking both portals offline and reconstruct them.
portal seems fine now, but now some chests wont open, all started when a raid occured
It might break in the future again, so regardless of it working now, reconstruct both.
Chests are network related issue.
You should do one important test tho to check if your base is corrupt in general:
- Play with friend
- Both of you go far away from the base by using a portal
- Both of you press F2 to see the instance count and have stopwatch ready
- One of you should pass through the portal and measure how fast the base loads for them by looking at the instance count in the F2 menu.
- After the base finishes loading for them, that player should stay in the base, and the other player should now pass through the portal to the base, while measuring the base loading time on their stopwatch.
Report back on the load times.
should have mentioned but its on a server, seems a restart had fixed it, the chests were unbreakable through hammer, not sure amount physical damage

If you were doing a lot of animal breading between nov2023 to aug2024 near that base, I recommend to do this test sooner, as a large discrepancy in base loading times would allude that you might have been affected by the bug, which would then explain a lot of weird things.

Had a strange thing happen. Was working on a portal place for my Bog witch portal. The had a skele surprise. All the skele's seem more interested in the Hut then me. Is that normal? Is it the broom? Kinda confused on this.

In my game, the mobs was much more interested in the Broom then me, when I was around the Hut. Even if the Broom wasn't hostile, or had been as long as I was in the cell.
Can we change the auto-save frequency of the game ?
Yesterday my game just crashed for the 1st in +450h of playing and when I relogged on a unmodded server and game my character spawned in a swamp i was litteray 3h ago, without the stuff and xp I took since but with the one I had at this time
My steamcloud and saves are connected, and after some researches I found that you could try to put a more recent local autosave in your Steamcloud saves, which I did but the most recent one was still 1h ago the crash occured.

What are your system specs?
If you move your saves from Cloud to Local, you will have one additional backup save to restore which will be 30min behind. It has extension .old. After experiencing a crash, you should backuo that save before loading the game. Save interval can only be tweaked on dedicated servers.

Yes I found out that Valheim is still saving on local too, that's how I could find a more recent backup, even with cloud backup in parralel
So, as you suggested, I backup this autosave on my steamcloud sync, but it was still 30 minutes before my crash occured and I thnk it related to what @gilded sluice suggested : Steam bugged and Valheim couldnt save so it crashed, and the last local autosave was this 30 minutes late save. Don't know if it's clear
If your save is labeled as cloud in the ingame manged saves menu, a local .old save won't be created. Save has to be moved from Cloud to Local, and then it will stop being syned from disk to cloud, but .old will also be created.

But where you should really be focusing, is on fixing the crash cause. List your specs if you continue crashing.
Yea, it's the first time in like +400h of play and it just occures after a steam bug (crash too), and I think it related to it

saves during crashes usually happen due to power spikes
btw. you should check if you game now saves properly, so change something in the world and re-log to see if the change would be there
Sometimes when steam crashes while saving, some leftover files can get left behind and hinder future saving

Hi, just unlocked the blast furnace after killing moder. But my friend who plays in my world (i host it) got the black metal sword recipe, but i dont. I already unlocked linen threads and fine wood ofcourse. So my question is why is the recipe not unlocked and how can i fix it? Maybe with commands?
The recipe is not unlocked by unlocking blast furnace rather by picking up blackmetal bar, along with fine wood and linen threads you already have interacted with.

You'll probably need to reinstall the game and pickup those items again from the ground.

Cooking skill doesn't affect cooking time, only affects crafting time of foods. Is this expected?

It's not intended for cooking skill to affect cooking time in food processing units, so not a bug.
There should be no issues. What kind of issues do you have? Using mods? Double chekc on which game version you are playing on by specifically looking at the game version number in the starting menu.
I was quoted the patch notes and the notes were clear what it did. In-game description is misleading, "Cooking speed, serving tray wear and chance for bonus yields." Should probably be changed to Food crafting time to illustrate it doesn't affect cooking.

I think I have a bug with staff of the wild. It's stopped producing vines. It just says "not strong enough to control more summons" every time I use it.

I had an idea and the staff is fixed now. I think what happened is that I used it at the extreme of the render range and some of the vines didn't de-spawn. When I went to that area of the map later the staff worked again.

The problem is that you should have been able to summon them in plains non the less, but you couldn't.
Do you remember what you did after spamming them after the charred spawner? Loged out? Restarted the game? Used console commands?
I think it was the last thing I did before I logged out and then had the problem the next time I loaded the game.

Did you keep the game running in the main menu, or also closed the game after logging out, or went into another world?

You most likely still have Playfab issue, which is Steam related, and nothing about it was fixed in the recent patch.
Current version of Steam doesn't load PlayFab libraries if you launch it in Soldier runtime.

Hello there! I'm new here, i just wanted to know if the issue about the iron scraps going under the structure when mining it is already fixed? Maybe it was already addresed?
It's just frustrating that every time i mine iron it ends up out of my reach.
If you go outside the crypt, they will probably be around outside. (They fall through the crypt, and fall all the way down to the ground where the crypt is).
But given how many you normally get in a crypt, it’s usually only a couple that seemingly fall through.
so that's where all the iron was going, i knew my math had some unexplainable flaws
I just mined 2 of those clusters in the crypt and i got nothing. It's frustrating, to say the least. Hopefully it did go outside.

To be clear; it’s chance based to drop scrap iron. So another potential is you just got unlucky.
At the time it was 2. Now it's 4 in a row? Jesus, those odds are very low. Or they are getting through the floor under the crypt structure.
Each part is 14% chance to drop. So given each pile has multiple parts, does seem unlucky.
But when I know of scraps falling through, it’s usually like one every now and again. Not all of them.
You running any mods? And secondly maybe make sure you have carry weight and room.

I don't see anything about this in here or in the known bugs list, but it seems like feasts are disappearing when placed on tables after all players log out of a dedicated server. (don't know if it happens in other conditions) Both times it's happened, there were 1-3 portions eaten.

You are most likely crashing due to your CPU being ustable. You would have to go to your motherboard manufacturer site, download the latest BIOS and follow instructions on how to install it. After that Intel default CPU profile has to be set as opposed to motherboard default. 14th gen Intel CPUs are known to have issues.

Try to not eat Feasts are the same time as someone else and see if it continues happening.
Also, where is the base where this happened? Was it build near some pre-existing location and which one?
Check if the Feast is on top of the roof after it "disappears". If it happens consistently, send me your world file.
Could have definitely been eating close to the same time as someone else, but not within say 5 seconds I don't think. Base is in the mountains near Moder altar. Checking roof! It's been 2/2 times now, but I could test with another one.
You should test with a full Feast, as when destroyed it retains 10/10. Feasts that have less than 10 eats remaining disappear upon deconstruction.
Yeah I can do that. Nothing on the roof but there's a bunch of kilns up there so if it ended up inside of one I wouldn't be able to tell. Can get rid of them if you think that would help.

I use r2modman a lot, would you suggest a un/reinstall of both programs (r2 and the Valheim Client)?
remove all mods for now, then clean the entire valheim folder of files that does not belong there, validate the game files, run the game to see it starts as normal
then re-apply updated mods

We have some players reporting crashing when switching to fullscreen on some Linux Distros, but not on Windows.
Are you using any obvious overlay features from some 3rd party software?

The only overlay I can think of would be discord, but i can toggle that

You can open Valheim properties in Stema library, and under BETA tab choose default_prebw
If you are both on Steam, tell your friend to try disabling crossplay option before they start their server.

That took care of the slow frame rates. Unfortunately it's not related to the issue I was originally attempting to resolve before it cropped up, which is the game crashing constantly.
I suspect it's because of higher than recommended graphics or vertical synchronization. I don't see any other solution 😦

I noticed a buttload of unnecessary startup apps, so I culled those.
when you are in the game, you click esc and go to settings, go to graphics and find V-synch items. is to be disabled.
below there will be sliders responsible for the graphics quality, set them to the lowest and watch how the game changes. you can also lock the fps at a certain height, which will reduce the load on the graphics card
The game crashing the computer is not new, but this is the first time I've seen a BSOD happen out of it.

"Blue screen of death," Windows OS system crash screen. Usually before I'd just get a restart of the system.
The issues do not seem to be consistent, but something always does go wrong and fast trying to run this app.
well, they are consistent, in that it is consistently a crash of some sort.
Usually in such moments I leave it alone and wait for updates that might fix it.
Frame rate limiter might be of help, I'll see if it does anything. Valheim stayed alive long enough for me to change that. Render scale as well dropped to 90%.
I also took down all other graphics settings completely. I only roughly Googled my issue, but one result suggested that graphics card stress could indeed be the issue. My frame rate was previously unlimited.

Players and items sink into ground in areas that are between swamp and plains biomes. Known issue.
ah right. it behaves just like if it was ashlands....
At this spot the biome is plains, but it has swamp ground texture (black). There is also a narrow stripe of correct texture, but with no fading to the black. It can be recreated with new world with the seed above.
yea that seems to happen everywhere where plains meet swamps now, seen it myself a while ago, definitely uses the ashlands ground texture, similar to how the border between plains and black forest looks all wet and uses the mistlands rock texture since the mistlands update

Had an abomination I was killing via fire. I died to a silly mistake, and just as the tombstone was fading out, I could see the abomination died from the fire and started its death animation.
When I went back immediately to get my body, no loot from the abomination was there. And neither was abomination. Searched everywhere twice.
Caught it all on video and checked replay. Definitely didn’t spawn the loot, I’m guessing since area wasn’t loaded at the moment loot was meant to spawn…

I seem to have encountered something, idk if its a bug or that my save may be a little corrupted. but:
I have a save with one character on it. I explored some swamp biome looking for surtling spawns. I found some, and put up portals at their locations. i come back to the save only to find the portal gone and the ground around the spawner not mined away (which is what i did) On the map it appears as though i discovered the location allready (no fog) but in the world itself there werent any changes made.
For the record, i obsessively save all my games, while playing and while quitting. i distincly remember logging out next to the spawner, with the ground hoe'd away and a portal up.
Some of them broke but two wont for me. But ok it is a bug then

There is no reason to save before quitting or logging out, as those actions save the game as well.
You should check if your game saves at all now, by changing something in the world, loging out and then going back in to check if change is there.
Are you playing in single-player? Are you often restoring saves?

If it hasn't been reported yet, Ive been having sunken crypt resources drop onto the main world floor, which is often a good share of my iron into fairly deep swamp water around the crypt where it is difficult to see. On linux using vulkan, only noticed this after bog witch update.

the last update shuffled locations in unexplored areas so any markers you have from before then that you haven't visited yet should now be inacurrate, but thankfully the vegvisirs always point to the current location, so interacting with any again on this verison should give an up-to-date one
that said, it won't delete the old inaccurate marker, that has to be done manually 😅

Deconstruct isn't working for me anymore. No mods, vanilla play.
Either leftover mods or broken controls. If resetting controls doesn't work. Uninstall the game, clean up your installation folder from lefover files, and only then install it again
You should also check if your middle mouse click works outside of the game on mouse testing sites. Also try rebinding the key for deconstruct actions
i have never used mods. And I cannot uninstall, it is not my server. controller is working it happens on and off with both mouse and controller

If this continues to happen a lot, and if everyone on the server is playing on Steam, try asking the server owner to disable crossplay.
You might also ask them how is the server hosted (windows, linux, mac OS,..)

Yes, able to connect, join, and play around for a while before her client freezes and then crashes to desktop with no warning, error/crash message, etc.

I think I do remember doing that recently and it made things sort of smoother, but still the issue was around.
Best to download a new driver if available, and then during installation, chose the custom option and preform clean installation option. You would only have to uninstall current driver if you already have the latest. If you continue crashing after that we can look at scaling issues, G-sync, etc..

- enable no scaling in Nvidia control panel
- set lower resolution than your native resolution in Valheim settings
- select full screen option in Valheim settings
Applied no scaling.
The image you should see, should be blurry and stretched after doing all three
Aaand lowered in-game res to 1280x720, been in full screen as well.
It's not a fix I'm suggesting, rather a driver test.

I would generally recommend using DDU software to clean out old drivers in that case. However you can still try one thing.
Return everything to aspect ration in nvidia control panel
Set normal resolution in game, but set render scale setting to native instead of automatic
See if you crash then, if so, I would recommend using DDU software then
native / automatic doesn't matter for PC users
Exclusive mode disabled every time you mess around with settings. It esentially resets and has to be enabled again.
But you can forget about that. That was done just to test your drivers.

@stark meadow thank you for the response; black screen with sound (although not like up to date sound; the server has clearly crashed). i9 13900k, 4080, Win11Pro, everything is super up to date and even the mobo update to handle the i9 glitch

Black screen with sounds alludes to that being a GPU issue. It's also common for that to happen during dungeon when a GPU has an issue, especially when loading into one. Usually related to GPU not getting enough power. Do you know if your power supply operates in single rail or dual rail setup? Check if it has a switch that can switch between those.
That's some great insight, thank you. I believe it is dual rail but I can double check. Higher end corsair power supply and it runs fine with any other game including something like Cyberpunk maxed at 4k
It usually was just after loading into an instance, but if we got swamped with enemies it'd almost always cause a crash

Valheim is a bit problematic compared to some other games, as it has a lot of sudden power spike scenarios that will happen, which often lead to crashes if the system is slightly unstable. Goes for both CPU and GPU, so it can be a bit problematic to find the stable OC configuration.

I'm one of the people commenting on the bug and I've tried replying multiple times before the site was obsoleted, but my response never got approved my the admin. My answer was that the issue does not go away when disabling steam-overlay.
I've tried reporting it in the new bug-reporting system, but I can't seem to find it there. Not sure if it has been removed or if the report failed somehow (without an error message).
The bug doesn't occur when playing using OpenGL instead of Vulkan, but it does make the Vulkan version completely unplayable after 10-20 minutes.
An issue is that the OpenGL version sometimes refuses to start. It crashes right when entering the menu, I believe it can have to do with pre-compiled shaders.
But it would really be preferable to have the Vulkan version fixed instead of having to resort to running OpenGL.
Do you think there is any chance of the issue ever being fixed? Should I just try to report it again in the new bug-reporting system?

It's not a Valheim issue. Happens in more games and is Steam related.
