+1 cool stat
i thought ||shingles weren't damaged by rain||.
Roof tiles are not.
darn
just use devcommands on another character
thats my best character
then don't.
rise and grind krell
I just sorted a Magic build out, got my Blood magic to 50, gonna try get my Elemental to around the same using Frost against the golem method, Is magic viable to kill the queen? I never fought her before.
its kinda late where i am andi dont feel tho go 30min to swamp and then mountain biome and i asked becouse someone dont mind
can the staff of protection kill you? like if you use it if your below 40% does it let you do it and kill yourself or does it say you cannot do that
you can't, it's -40% of your current hp
ohh okay thanks
You can kill it with magic
does fire frighten boars?
Yes
not tames
Yeah that
no I ask because I'm trying to tame one. will a tamed one frighten a wild one? will two wild ones frighten each other if in the same pen?
is there a certain distance I need to be from them to tame them? I know if I go too far they just get unloaded
Fire frightens it, tamed boars do not
will they attack tamed boars?
Depends on how loud and visible you are
No
that's good to know thank you
That would make taming even worse
Although ||asksvin|| can hurt each other since they deal friendly fire, which happens if they are close to each other and trying to attack building structures.
Yeah but they wont fight each other
No
single star wolves can be tamed even though they're night spawns, then, right?
Before mistlands, all mobs have the same rules for 1 and 2 stars i think
I dont understand what you mean. Both 1 and 2 star wolves can be tamed at night
If they hit 1% taming the despawn and fear at day will go away
ok.
i was worried night wolves were like raid wolves and were guarunteed angry as long as they exist
No if that was the case you couldn't tame them
Early 2021 night wolves would despawn even if tamed, so you couldnt leave them during the day before you bred them
gotcha.
have a good day
Queen Kate is going to be Queen of the Wolves
hey guys im a returning player to valheim (played the game at launch) and im completely lost and wanted to know if anyone has any guides they reccomend to help newcomers either YT videos or even steam forum guides?
Yeah, they don't target each others but can target structures near them, which can hurt each other in process.
Best guide is Hugin.
Indeed
Dyingđ
And the messages of new unlocks top left when you pick up new items
ive managed to get myself a basic house or two and just got to the black forest but im struggling to figure out how to progress as everything in the black forest just makes me feel like im too under leveled and under geared
What do you have atm, we can give pointers
Make a bow, kill a troll, make troll armor and repeat the process
i havent seen a single troll yet
Than get a torch and a flint axe and kill a bear
killed elkdeer like 7 times
you killed elder 7 times before you saw a troll??
what does a torch do to a bear
Have you killed the first boss yet?
and yeah i havent seen a single troll
The big guy is scared of torches so he doesn't attack you
read the runestones they reveal helpful hints
yes ive killed the first boss about 7-8 times
Eikthyr? Once would be enough.
Have you crafted metal weapons and tools?
But, you need to make pickaxe and start looking for materials to mine.
im trying to but im struggling to enter the black forest
ive made a kiln but ive only found 1 dungeon
*Eikthyr
Trolls are weak to arrows and spears, skeletons to torches and clubs, bears to axes and swords
every time i take 1 step into the forest either i get absolutely shit rolled by a huge pack of wolves or i get caught between a bear and a horde of gob witches
dawg wolves in the bf??
Huh, wolves are residents in mountains which is later biome to enter.
q,q ive managed to build a house right outside the black forest but its under constant attack from roaming gob packs
Goblin packs??
Greydwarves probably.
Or greydwarves
aparently my world gen has the black forest and mountains really close together
go find another bf
oof
Wolves are too annoying to deal with early on before getting an atgeir
Stay away from the mountakn, unless to use the wolves to kill the others
any tips to handle wolves?
atgeir works the best on them
Run away
Or you can parry with a shield but that's harder
ive tried to out run them but they seem faster
Hard for someone with a low skill level and stamina in that stage
You are on second biome, wolves are 4th biome. Run to black forest enemies and let the wolves kill them
Or just don't go to that area in general and find a new bf
Valheim is an exploration game for a reason
Yeah thats probably smart
You can get payback on those wolvves afterwards
as far as copper goes im only just getting my first copper
how do i turn it into tools?
Mining near mountain can attract wolves.
You need to make it into bronze which you aslo need tin for
You need to find tin along the water
2 copper, 1 tin = 1 bronze
2 copper*
oops yeah
my base is luckily right next to 2 huge copper veins on the surface
Also never make bronze armor
Smelter is required to smelt ores to metal bars.
You can if you want to but armor increase is negligible and you will be slower
bronze armor is fine if you are incapable of killing large mobs for their hides without more armor, which they might be
Bears literally don't attack you if you have a torch, they are easier to kill than boars at that point
Trolls are weak to pierce so a bow and arrow can kill it safely from a distance
Oh btw bears and regular greydwarves are also afraid of fire
They still throw stone tho annoyingly
got one of those
i got 6 copper bars so far
been farming wood turning it into charcoal on campfires and making bars
that's just a painfull process, go find more cores and make a Kilin
You can swap between charcoal kiln and smelter btw
Deconstruct and build the other until you have 10 cores
yes but they seem confused about what to do and are fighting wolves for some reason id give different advice to different people
oh no the bear advice is extremely useful info
i have like 3 bears that live/roam near my house gotta do alot of sneaking to get past them when i go out hunting for food
I heard some people trap thrm between 4 walls on top of campfires lol
Way too advanced for a new player
Yeah lol
Although it does work really well
Just gotta hope that other stuff doesn't interfere beforehand
Anyway, play it careful, play the factions against one another. Use club, axe and bow depending on the enemy
Look for carrot seeds and dungeons
ooo yes carrot seets are very important
Stay away from the mpuntain unless chased by many enemies
It's just gambling at that point
Will the wolves kill you, will the bf kill you or will they kill each other
Do you have the dual axes? They can be found in 2 different buildings in meadows
sure, that they fear fire is great advice, but their advice is kill them for armor instead of bronze armor, but i gather youâre much closer to having bronze than lots of bear hide i just wanted to amend them saying never make bronze armor
dual axes? havent found those yet
Only if Odin blesses them with all his might can those things be found early onđ
2 different axesheads that can be found in meadows building chests and can be combined
You need the curious axe head and the mysterious axe head to craft an early axe
i found 1 axe head
If you find another one, you'll aquire the strongest early game weapon
do you have the curious axe head?
nope havent found one of those
Find both and youll have a really good weapon
mhm
You wont need to make brlnze axe
wtf... i legit dont find any trolls in almost 5 hours of gameplay but now i say i havent found any and i INSTANTLY get attacked by one
pffffft
free hides, get a bow and kill it
i did i murderfied that boxtroll
theyâre scary but just learn their attack, theyâre pretty limited and predictable. vulnerable to spear and bow
i just ran it around a tree and shot its kneecaps
sweet, you just got mats
for a 6 armor piece of your choice
he used to be a troll... till he took 100 arrows to the knees
also what do i do with a troll trophie
also im in meadows glade vc if anyone wants to hop in and look at my scuffed setup
They take extra damage in the face lol
Good morning
I have a question about home base defenses
What's a better defense for a base? A moat, earthen walls, or a combo of both?
Both would be best/overkill, nowadays I make either moat or raised ground for base area.
Last night, while I was playing, I was tending to my base in the Dark Forest when I suddenly saw a blue giant troll. It's the first time I've seen something like that
both work well depends on the terrain like if you are near water an earth wall is better since you cant dig deep
Make friends w it
Luckily, I had my moat in place, and I was able to pick it off slowly with wooden arrows
The next night, I was caught off guard in the woods, and another giant troll attacked me
I ran as fast as I could back to base, and accidentally fell into my moat
damnnn
well, the giant troll fell in, but I was able to get out of my moat and into my base
I thought the moat was deep enough for the troll NOT to get out of
But then all of a sudden, he starts swinging this huge log WHILE IN THE MOAT and destroys my outer palisade walls
and then somehow gets himself out of the moat and into the perimeter
Is there a better way to Level elemental Magic, or is Ice Golem in a Pit just the way to go, or is it better just running around plains setting Fuelings on fire?
It feels really really slow
and just starts killing me over and over and over
Golem + ice is still best pretty much, afaik
There's gotta be a better way to defend than to start grind-digging
You could shoot at T.W.I.G.
Yeah I used TWIG for Blood Magic, that ws really effective, level 50 in a couple hours
Totally afk, I didn't wanna go higher, cause it felt cheesy, I just wanna get Elemental to 50 too
You can also level up elemental magic skill on it.
Is fire staff 1xp per enemy hit? so If I hit 3 twigs I get 3 exp?
who has some extra silver or iron
Spawn iron 200 p
Not sure the exact xp per hit, but it doesnât matter how many enemies you hit. One fireball will give same xp whether you hit 1 or 10 enemies with it
And 0 xp if you donât hit anyone
Same xp per hit no matter how many targets.
Are you at Ashlands yet?
i tried but doesnt work
Are you on on console or keyboard+mouse?
Go to settings, on first page "enable console" then in game press F5, type devcommands and then spawn iron 10
Right click properties in steam library valheim type -console in the startup options I think its called
Not needed as of CtA update đ now you have option in settings
But the start up option does take priority before the in-game setting
Had no idea ty
No problem, glad that helped!
Why did you move from general to roleplay bot here?
Haha, I'm not sure what you mean! I'm just being myself.
Who wants to figth elder the secon boss with me i want to fight it but i am litle scared because its my first time i dont have the spaning things but it would be fun triyng to get them
You want iron and silver but havenât beat 2nd boss yet?
my friend givet me
your friend give a man a fish
WELL I KILLED MY FIRST BEAR!!!!!
and it was basically just a tankier boar once i knew the torch trick
nice, there are even more tricks to killing them too. their lunging 1 paw swipe is very very weak and you can parry it very easily if you're interested in killing them quicker
You need to enable pvp. open your menu (tab on PC) and click the swords to cross them.
why bother though?
he escaped his pen
Has no one else had problems with severe lags on their dedicated server when playing multiplayer? (dathost)
Its unplayable
Which is the strongest material (from mistland or ashland) to stabilize roofs?
Iron beams or flametal beams, they have the same stability
Copper walls too
And iron cage walls đ
anyone knows how to fix sudden fps drops in valheim? like my game runs smoothly and then for a couple of second my fps goes to 3-5
if you mean during auto save no, same thing happens to everyone i think
if it should say somewhere on the screen that its autosaving then no its not that
Auto saves happen in the morning, do the drops also happen at certain times or are they random?
literally random, like every 5 or so minutes just drops from 60 to 5 for 5-10 seconds n back to normal
and no it doesnt happen in specific places, happens everywhere
got pretty much all settings on low/turned off
That is quite strange, i would check any tasks running in the background first. Might be something usurping the PC resources not even related to the game.
Is it when you are traveling? Could be loading new areas
Holy moly Magic is very strong
It is indeed
Many would say OP
when will bows be strong đ„ș
Tbh I doubt it will ever happen. Devs seem unconcerned that theyre OP, probably wonât be nerfed to be strong
Tbh, they could half the damage of all bows, and it'd still be strong.
Ranged is very advantageous in Valheim.
All it would cost from that point is more time and materials.
like seriously?
I barely does much damage compared to my tanking friends, I am out of stamina and feathers all the time đ
Is this even about help?
đ€· They asked when will bows be strong
Running out of stamina and feathers isn't easy to do, there's stamina powers, mead, trinkets, skills lower stamina usage, and some set bonuses help with stamina.
Feathers are a farmable resource as well, you can hunt down birds endlessly with wooden arrows, chop down trees which are plant-able, or breed chickens en masse.
Vilebone armor set and Wolf sight makes bows even more OP.
About feathers, fair point. I didn't get to utilize chickens until after ashlands. Before that however, I struggled to get birds to spawn, and I could chop trees for an in-game day to get like half a stack of feathers. Was I just unlucky?
I regret choosing to main bow early instead of melee. Feel free to point out I am using bows wrong, but I am not doing anything too complicated. I stay a distance away, charge my bow until it is fully charged, and release. If there is no tank, I have to expend my stamina to keep distance, which means I can't attack and also means I have less stamina to charge the bow. It has been a while so I can only remember the ashlands stage. I remember I tried to take on a 2-star warlock (I forgor name, the mage/summoner) with ash fang and frost arrows, and I spent most of my time running in circle and barely scratched the main target or its summons. And then my mage friend who came late obliterated the whole horde in under 10 seconds, whilst I danced around uselessly alone for 5 minutes. Stamina meads helped but I felt like I wasted them as barely any of the regained stamina went into bows
My point being, feathers I should have farmed more, and I suck at managing stamina for bow specifically and in general
I never get enough adrenaline to activate wolf sight if I only just use bows
Like what am I to do to gain adrenaline fast? My adrenaline is already dropping when I am charging a shot
Shooting everything on sight. Staggering shots grant even more adrenaline.
Bows are generally good because they allow you to stay at a safe range
But also good because they have have insane damage, BUT ONLY once you get decent bow skill going. Bow skill 0 vs bow skill 100 is something like a 500-600% increase in DPS
And early on you donât need feathers much, just use wooden arrows and save your feathers. By the time youâre in mistlands you definitely want to use frost arrows though
Also in Ashlands I imagine bows are a little less good, but if you have frost arrows you shouldnât need much stamina for running. Just walk backwards and slow the enemy with your shots. Can also jump shoot to avoid slowing down while charging an arrow
You donât need much distance either. Just need to be out of melee range
what should I firstly craft from black cores
Black forge.
Depends...
You WILL want the ||feather cape||. I have no idea how spoiler tags work... đ
You need to put || on each side
Thanks.
Hey good morning. Looking at events, I'm assuming the 40m range for base items is a spherical radius. Does anyone have any evidence to the contrary? I want to make sure that building campfires i.e. in a dungeon won't trigger raids at the entrance.
You need to make ||eitr refinery|| first even then
Going to be same concept as you went through in black forest. Start with ||black forge|| for weapons and armor, destroy it and build an ||eitr refinery|| to get ||refined eitr|| then build a ||galdr table|| for the ||feather cape||.
Cape first, everything else next. At least IMHO.
It's a gamechanger in regards to traversing the Mistlands.
With those first five cores, I build the ||Eitr refinery||, make as much ||Eitr|| as I can get, then make the ||Galdr table to craft the feather cape||, then make the forge for all the rest of the stuff.
whats best mist tier weapon
It depends, some can be little more effective against seekers, especially those with partial elemental damage.
ok thanks
If you like swords, Mistwalker is effective.
Mistwalker is so good, it is perfect for Ashlands.
What are the "Ancient Cave Markings" for ? :/
They don't serve a practical purpose just decoration
Oh ok, thank you đ
When are we gonna get a new eta for D.N. I know this year. But like what quarter, I kmow its gonna be in December but I just want to have confirmation
Was Deep North this year confirmed while I wasn't looking? I know there's a port or two happening this year.
Deep North hasn't gotten ETA yet, but both PS5 and Switch 2 releases are upcoming this year.
how to get corewood
If you mean corewood, gotta chop down pine trees in Black Forest (theyre usually in the middle of the forest)
why one youtuber just cutdown a oakwood
Because oak trees are in Valheim?
i dont play in english the big tree that you see in meadows
You can plant those trees, they give you much wood
but why did he get corewood from it
does gjall destroy wood wall instantly? and does ballistas kill gjall fast?
is it safe to build wooden 3rd floor on my mist base
Oak and birch trees drop finewood. Corewood drops from cutting pine trees at black forest (the next biome).
thaks
Does anyone know how close I have to be to a surtling spawner/fire geyser for the surtlings to spawn?
Iirc i think it's a 20m radius
Thanks!
It is not confirmed for this year, and definitely not confirmed for December. Not that it couldn't be, but nothing has been confirmed
well i know that nothing is confirmed, but i know if it is gonna happen this year, its gonna ve near the end,\
Remains to be seen.
I also think it'll probably be this year but it could easily be next year
Depends on the scope of the update
mabe they are just waiting for my birthday :)
well, they have said they want to add a lot to earlier biomes
i think call to arms was a small taste of what that could be
best way to cheat myself building supplies while flying?
âno build costâ in world modifiers
does any character that enters that world get cheater status
dont know, if i had to guess that tag is only triggered by enabling devcommands
if youâre using fly, you already have the cheater tag tho
wondering if my dedicated chara can visit that world for some tomfoolery without blemish
i really wouldnt think world modifiers apply cheater, but maybe disable some future steam achievement? who could know
Okay, I feel like a newb asking this. When player raids are active on a server, how does that affect what merchants sell? Like, is their inventory still controlled by a global key or what's set per player?
not entirely sure what youâre asking, but the trader inventories are determined by which bosses have been beaten and which chest quests are completed, and the server itself is effected regardless of which player is in the server or raid settings or any settings i can think of
Right. I'm wondering if that changes at all on servers that use player raids rather than server wide ones. What I'm wondering is if Haldor's store will be different for someone that only fought against the Elder when another player has already defeated the Queen.
Maybe it's more appropriate to say, player driven vendors? Set per character progress rather than the whole server.
can someone look at my predicament in #screenshots and reply to me here in this channel about a solution
Build a ladder up and hit it and it should explode
it worked, thanks
Rock on
Rock... fell
Rockafella?
the vendor inventory is the same for everyone on the server and their inventory is according to what has happened on that specific server regardless of the players in it
Any tricks to leveling ground properly? Tried to build a platform and the raise / lower while on it but it was leveling to the ground instead of the character
yeah thats how the hoe works it raises or lowers depending on the level your character is standing
It wasnt though. That was why i was asking
oh gotcha, then also you can âraise groundâ which costs stone to raise it higher than youâre standing
and the other function attempts to make sort of a slope but its more complicated than i can explain well atm
Ill just try watching some vids. Does the copy function do anything on the hoe?
I assume thats for different types of paths or something like that
idk what you mean by copy function. but ya its a tricky thing to master hard to just describe with words but once you understand it it works good
Hoe has a "level to the level you are pointing at" mode when you hold shift, but thats pretty much the only alternative function it has.
Super well made to hold the same button as sprint while you try to make a decent slope đ
hah i never thought about that, i insta change my sprint and every other key every game i play so my sprint is R
R ? Damn, whats your pinky for then ?
Never really had a problem with it, since you kind of want to be precise when making smooth slopes so you should not try to walk (or run in this situation) anyway đ
Thought you had to walk slowly (like when planting seeds) while holding shift to make a good slope đ
Nope đ
Meh đ
i watched a couple youtube videos saying that the flamemetal will stop sinking if you go into a portal, is that true? i just did a flamemetal node and it sank all the way even though i jumped into a portal
one good trick i use is walk sideways up/down a slop once ive kind of made it to make it more consistent
You used to be able to stop it sinking when unloading the area either via portal or logging off from the world.
Not sure if it entirely stopped the sinking making you hit the dice roll for it to start sinking again or if it just reset the sinking timer.
Might have or might have not been patched i am really not sure.
that was my understanding, or log out, same behavior as krakken in the ocean, tho i cant say ive gone through a portal while a krakken was sinking XD
highest tier foods that last 15 minutes?
right now i've identified raw onions and cloudberries
I heard there is a mod that creates a unique aventure in valheim with 1k hours, where can I get more info?
Probably in #mods-discussion
I imagine there's multiple of those
greetings gentlemen, there was a problem with the bear trophy on the current patch, the wiki says that the chance of getting 10%, my brother and I killed a total of 40 pieces, 0 trophies came up, this is simply statistically incredible
Sadly RNG giveth and RNG taketh i am afraid
is there a command to get all the build blocks
Yep, press F5, type devcommands, type debugmode and press B
There will be vegs in Ashlands with that duration.
I have 259 hide, 4 trophies
deosnt work
What doesent work?
depugmode
You cant open the console?
no the command
are you playing on a server or hosting from your game?
That ^
my own game
What does it say when you try to type it?
can you post a screenshot of console in #screenshots ?
look
go look
you had already enabled devcommands
and you typoed a ton
but you disabled devcommands
i typed help'
dev commands on
now type debugmode correctly
i guess my question then is what's the highest 15 min B or H food
Iirc 2 of the Ashlands vegs grant 30 HP and stamina and have 15 minutes duration.
But why exactly?
sorry
for filling stomach for a short period before eating a feast
Anyone have any good graphic settings for maximize fps without impacting the graphic a lot?
No need to be sorry, I was just curious.
anyone knows how much xp you gain when you attack with special move from battleaxe? Is it still 1.5 or it's less?
Allegedly this is very good (if it wonât load, itâs in pins for this channel too. Yt vid guide)
Ive been curious about that one myself
Both for woodcutting and axe skill
i was sorry for being late đ€
It is the same IIRC.
so u skill the fastest by spamming the secondary attack i assume?
1.5xp for every hit, so the fastest hitting axe you have is the best one to train it with, the more hits in the least amount of time you can do is better.
Either a handed or a 2 handed axe doesn't matter its all under the axes skill.
Berserkir axes being the best axes to lvl the axes skill with.
i see, i see, thanks
Thanks a lot
Well dual axes in general should be equally good for levelling
But it sounds like battleaxe secondary wouldnât be too far behind
Just wondering if theres a way to get glowing signs. I know you can use some formatting to change colors and size and whatnot but not sure how to get the glow
Lighting helps. Use a hue picker to find a better color
nvm comment says they dont glow anymore
Im 3 years late to that party I guess đą
Been very slow to see any gains from hitting twig
Is there any bonus to xp when hitting tougher enemies?
if anything attack lots of graydwarves since they're tiny and grant equal xp gain
deep north is coming đĄïž
Was diving planned?
@tired root should i dm you about that non-DN Polaris seed?
thank you for being open
đ great appreciation
Also, one interesting trick: If you click that Pin Map Center button and then click Random you get different seed with same map base.
wow
can you connect a stone portal to a regular portal?
can anyone help me flat this terrain. the edges are like messed up one side is fine but this other side i cant fix.
idk if this is what you're talking about, but in valheim you can terraform straight and not zig-zaggy dirt walls in line with the cardinal directions only, otherwise ur always gonna get ziggy zags
i showed you in dms
yeah i think thats what im talking about, see if you can pickaxe that wall exactly perpendicular to the wall that's straight
i mean it looks straight to me
straight or perpendicular?
both
huh. weird idk then
Hi, looking for help around browsing building tips and screenshots while trying to grill cheese and endin up burning it a bit cause itâs too interesting.
how do I quickly make a troll inside a troll cave de-aggro so I can use the sneak attack again?
Go to a different cave, maybe itâs on a timer also, not sure never tried lol
don't think you can do that, if you wait a while it will maybe de-aggro not guaranteed but it will also gain health back in that time
for troll caves its ideal if you are good at dodge rolling or powerful enough to parry them
Nothing offensive, but I did see your preview showing LoTR
anyone know about stabilizing stone blocks? i have a screenshot of an outpost im making an the stone walls are too high (in the plains) and beginning to crumble
Needs iron wood touching it
can meadows spawn right next to mist?
Itâs possible yeah, donât see it much tho.
Meadows go up to 5000m from spawn, and mistlands from like 5900+ so u can get a little band between of something else ⊠so âcloseâ
No it can't.
Yeah, lowest biome I have seen next to mist is BF.
can someone explain why it happened , i could not interact with chests and then all of sudden literally every chest destroyed and few structure by itself
Do you use any mods? Are you in current PTB version?
plains tier knife?
what is it?
It's made by the metal found in plains.
I don't understand why they implemented "Wooden" weapons, such a troll đ
works great against T.W.I.G. No damage.
What's the point ?
Hitting T.W.I.G. counts as an attack so you improve your skills for free.
can wood iron beams go up... forever, but not the stone they support?
nevermind, i reached the max height just now
my altitude is 67
isn't it 5 beams vertical before lack of stability ?
these are wood iron
single best early game stability beams
They don't go forever
But very very high. Probably much higher than you'll need
Similar questionable that. If I wanted to connect too land masses with a wood bridge, can the iron poles go in accross the gap without a bottom support? Cause when it gets too deep idk how to support it
So yes, to a point. Extending ironwood beams horizontally needs more support than vertically. You'll have to come in from both sides and see if you have enough support to meet in the middle.
Training skills without killing your enemy and having to go find a new punchingbag
IMO making skill gain a farmable thing rather than something you pick up from just playing is silly tho
Yeah, that's a fair point. It kinda takes the fun out of it when it becomes a chore.
You can raise the "ground" while walking down the water, keep it low enough for a good look, but at least you can put some fundations
How do you guys handle a height difference when making a roof ? I mean the front of my house is lower than the back, but i'm struggling to connect them
When a CORNER is involved* sorry missed the main part of the question
do night spawned creatures not eat food if its day time? I lost aggro on what I assume is a night askvin and it refuses to eat the food near it. Will I have to wait until nightfall to avoid it despawning?
you have to wait.
usually you have to get creative with outside and inside corner pieces. Sometimes it just doesn't work.
Try offsetting the corner pieces by 1m. that often works to fix joins.
Mmm... by offsetting, you mean ? đ
either up half a step or in half a step from the end of the next piece.
Like this ? #screenshots message
Np, thanks đ
@thorn spire Finally closed everything đ the hard thing is that my house is asymmetric, either in eight and width (yeah why make it simple when you can go hardmode đ
Thanks for the tips anyway đ
Itâs very satisfying when you figure out how to snap it together. I very rarely need to free place a roof piece any longer
Tried to not free placing, i know it'll end up badly đ
Im off for now I'll make screenshot tomorrow you'll understand better the struggle i had đ
Can anyone help me recover my stuff? Iâve got a teleport to where I died, just in a bad spot in a populated orc villa
It's okay I ask about dev commands here right?
ye
Whats the order of biome progression? Meadows -> BF -> Swamp -> ?
||meadow, bf, swamp, mountain, plains, mistlands, ashlands||
||MTN b4 plains?|| Noted thanks
Im just scouting for a home base and I cannot find a nice flat coastal area to save my life. Found an island with the first 5 all together but the coast is garbage
What's the dev command to spawn a trophy? Accidentally deleted a trophy. Spawn trophyserpent doesn't work
I'm not totally sure on the exact syntax for that one, sorry! You might need to check the wiki or ask around in the Valheim communities, they'd probably know better than me.
Did you type devcommands first?
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Item_IDs#Trophies
Enable the console - F5 - devcommands - spawn TrophySerpent
I enabled dev commands yes
I have -console on steam already, I enabled dev commands, but it won't do that command unless it's case sensitive
I spawn serpent scales as a test and it worked fine
You should be able to cycle trough the available things with tab.
Are you on a server?
I did, that's how I found the trophyserpent but it didn't work.
I had a server enabled at the time
But not dedicated server?
If you were the host then there is no problem, but you cant use commands on dedicated servers so i asked đ
Not dedicated, and I was host
Maybe it's case sensitive for some reason. That's the only reason I can see for it telling me that I can't do that right now
Can you screenshot your console and put it in #screenshots ?
Yeah next time I'm on I will @frosty frost
Nah, commands are not case sensitive
You could try spawning in serpents and keep killing them till you get a new trophy, throw all the stuff you don't want to keep deep into the ocean.
That's fair. Be even funnier to spawn one on land
Absolutely, dig a hole big enough, stand at the right spot and summon one in there and go ham.
Is there no stone pickaxe through normal play?
Nope first pickaxe is after first boss.
Think I've always just spawned myself the initial tools so i didnt even realize it wasn't craftable lmao
More specifically, made with material dropped from it.
I'm so confused đ€ I had 19 cut and prepped fish, but when I cooked them all, I only got 15 cooked fish back. I thought the ratio was the same?
sometimes I spammed cooking stuff too fast and the game ate them
it feels most noticeable with cooking stations over campfires tbh. When this happened I was in a server my friend hosted, I haven't checked if it can also happen in singleplayer
I never cook while on a server anymore. I do all that on my own, then sign in.
I host the server. So all the mats are there. I have never noticed losing foods as a single player.
So it seems to be a server caused loss to me.
Servers usually miss out on the food anyway
speaking of foods, is there anything (hopefully useful) I can dump a massive amount of seeker meats into? đ
I didn't think I would get overrun by them
Seeker aspic.
only useful for mages / hybrid but for them a really good and cheap food
Yep this, and coal just sits there until you are back later so can make a bunch of em at once on a bunch of racks over some fires.
Guys I need some help, my partners game freezes (Video freezes)
But the audio keeps going, can hear music/people doing stuff, we've updated graphics drivers, changed settings, vsync on/off, enabled FPS limiter, defaulted NVIDIA settings/profiles, reinstalled the game, no mods, no custom anything.. They're on a RTX 3080 & AMD CPU
It's basically identical to this issue, same card and everythnig, but this is over a year later: #steam-bugs-discussion message
my hottub keeps going on and off even though its full of wood, why?
Is it getting proper ventilation?
i did somthing to my mic and it jusrtt will not connect
Isnt it in meat platter?
Seeker meat maybe but not seeker aspic
Yes, but it is quite expensive food otherwise IMO.
seeker meat is rarely the limiting ingredient of aspic or platter
meat platter needs hare right?
My number one enemy...
Hare meat is more limiting ingredient tho.
hare is super limited unless you spend a lot of time in mistlands or have your main base there, an area not spawnproofed with lots of spikes or go hunting with embers regularily
and traps etc
I try and kill every hare I see in the mistlands to build up a good stock of the meat.
How do you get back on the raft from the water
There are small stairs on the back edge.
tips on supporting a huge thatch roof on my stone walls?
corewood beams?
might not quite go wide enough đ„Č
iron beams?? how wide a roof are we talking?
also if height isnt an issue maybe beams that go from the ground straight up to the roof? and/or stone that does the same?
probably what i'm gonna do. đ
36 cubes wide
or 38 end to end
Picture in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202267437647527977 or https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202310893757530142 might help giving advice.
wha??? are you building an indoor baseball field?
if its that wide youâre definitely gonna need to support from the ground
scientifically... how far across should 26 degree corewood beams be able to go?
maybe if i decrease the depth by 3 on each side they'd be enough
like⊠5 or 6 beams worth? definitely not your entire sports field
i found a solution
put two iron beams on each side to slightly reduce how long the corewood has to be
somehow it stays up...
7 beams wide is gucci đ
ok. laptop low on battery, gotta charge it again before i keep valheiming.
one important question.
how long does it take unsupported iron beams to break? i noticed while i was building straight up it took a while for ones that were weak to decay
they dont decay exactly, they either stay up or they dont, if something loses integrity it all crumbles down pretty quickly.
if you try to build in a manner that wont hold it should instantly break. if you remove a support everything that needed that support will start crumbling immediately
it didnt đ
then youâre good
can you teleport friend
portals and commands?
Not as far as i am aware đ€ you can teleport yourself
i think thats only a minecraft thing
Ah, recall command will teleport someone to your location
oh thats awesome. server admin roleplay unlocked, teleport cheaters to ashlands hell prison
so no one else has had wood iron beams decay after a minute?
do you mean their durability? like in the rain? are they not under a roof?
... will they suddenly break in the rain?
not break, but decay to half durability
then the mystery still isn't solved.
ahah!
i think i figured it out
i think it was struck by lightning
not unless you mean from the obliterator, lightning is just a light show
i am pretty new first time and starting swamp biome, where do i pick for my permanent base? i have some portals up but i see that certain materials cant be teleported so how do i go about choosing where to build? i still just have starter base near spawn
A base at the spawn can be good, just make sure you have water near you so you can bring stuff there with a boat
It's pretty common. Sometimes game updates structural support rules immediately, sometimes it takes a couple minutes. It usually only takes minutes for it to do if there are a lot of builds in the area, but sometimes even on small builds it happens.
It's very random
I would recommend putting a base in meadows (because it's safe there), but preferably somewhat near a big swamp so you can easily haul materials back home!
As smily said tho, living near the water is real good
Do all boats move the same speed?
No, raft moves the slowest, second boat moves faster and the last two move fastest
What's the story progress?
Like how to progress the story, I'm new and I don't know what's in the game like if there's copper tools or swords in the game. I would like to know.
Story of the game is to beat each Forsaken for Odin. Progression vise you will gain access to mine materials in next biome by killing the first boss.
There are several different weapon types to choose from, each dealing mainly either slash, pierce or blunt damage.
I have only found mountain biome so far but I haven't entered inside.
Mountain is the 4th biome in order, so don't go there yet.
Meadows is the first biome, right?
Correct.
Like I'm trying to find the crow for tips but I can't find it.
At the starting point you can get the location of the first boss by pressing the red symbolic stone, called vegvisir.
My best tool so far is just my flint spear I don't think I can beat bosses with it.
You can read the previous advice from compendium, which is found above the crafting menu.
Any weapon is good against the first boss. You might want to have shield too, maybe bow and arrows as backup too. You can also hunt animals and make armor before fighting the boss.
You don't need to rush things.
Is it possible to beat the first boss with a flint spear and just a shield, and what do I need to summon the boss?
It is possible, spear is actually good weapon for damage.
If you visit the boss location it can give you hint what to look for to sacrifice.
But for first boss (I put spoiler tag, so look in at your own risk), it is ||2 deer trophies||.
Let me check the location and then I will look the spoiler.
There is some message you can read there and might have other hints too.
I have to try every item if I don't know the sacrife item, or it will be the same category item?
It is an option, but if you look closely you can figure out what the item is related to.
Also, the starting area has those sacrificial stones with hanging hooks, which presents each boss in order and they can also give hint what kind of enemy they are.
Ohhhh.
go slow, stop and read every stone and every bird speech, you will get tips for fighting mobs and all kinds of info, read item descriptions, take note of new recipes unlocked, fight things, gather everything you see, its self-driven exploration
Any boss can be fought and defeated with a weapon crafted in its biome. I once beat the first boss with just a flint knife because I forgot to make a shield. That said, don't assume bosses will be easy; preparation can turn a near-impossible encounter into a much more manageable one.
spear+shield are the best things you can use imo
Spear or knife are both fine
Shield isnt really needed, might as well dodge roll
Shield is easier tho
True. A bit easier in exchange for some stamina and hp loss
Someone explain how this happened and how I can do it again.
#memes-and-clips message
Was playing around with dev commands in public test, spawning likr 100 enemies and lightning axing them. It seems the spark hits an enemy and then has a chance to go to the next, and so on. Maybe it had a 25% chance to go to each of the enemies nearby the initial target? So if thereâs a lot of enemies youâll get multiple lightning bolts sent off, which will then continue sending off more
It felt very consistent / often to me when I fought dozens of enemies clumped together. All about enemy density
In that clip it looks like you got fairly lucky tho
is that what it is? 25% chance to also proc and split doubling the lightning? i feel like it proc'd and split into FOUR lightning bolts at least, it was like a spray of lightning to every green summon
Wiki says: Once triggered, it has an 80% chance of bouncing off nearby enemies or players. If so, each nearby target within 8 meters has a 30% chance of being targeted, up to a maximum of 2â4 targets per bounce (the maximum is chosen at random then targets are processed starting from the nearest). The process repeats indefinitely, centered on each new target, but with the chance of rebound multiplied by 0.75 each time (i.e., 80% â 60% â 45% â 33.75%, etc.).
TLDR: find 10 enemies. Bundle them up. Profit
Lightning gem is for single target dps and AoE clear
Then jade for cc and blood fo- we donât talk about blood
oh wow i never read that, that's for iolite gem in the wiki? ok so i just got lucky. also. i just tested this in another fortress just letting the charred max out then swinging, yeah if there's lots of charred its just a chance to bounce like mad and delete them all. that's crazy
yeah, lightning is even more op than i thought. and blood needs a buff even more
yeah, it's called chain lightning effect or smth
unless i got crazy lucky THREE more times lol i just recreated it 3 more times wiht a huge ball of charred
In my experience the iolite gems proc very consistently
lol i fought and tested it so long my helmet broke and almost my tower shield XD
what's the effect of bloodstones
ive had iolite proc plenty, but never like... literally delete 7 charred ina single swing
I'm guessing that will get nerfed in 1.0.
same, cuz idk how they'er gonna get me to use a different weapon
||more dmg per health points lost||
||0.2% per hit point||
||% max hp?||
||no it's per actual health point, not percentage of max hp, so it's better the more hp you have||
||more hp you have, or is missing?||
|| missing, just meant it gets better the more u have cause then u can lose more too||
||the damage is based on the dealer's hp?||
More precisely ||0,2% per missing health point (from you)||. So higher max HP for player is more beneficial.
yeah the more enemies there are the more damage you can do off a juicy proc
with a dense group of high hp enemies it will just go round and round doing way more than the base 75 per enemy
||how much missing hp does bloody jotun's bane require for breaking even with more full and standard||?
There is no such weapon, gems can only be used on Ashlands weapons.
i meant tier 3 jotun's bane with blood enchant and tier 4 with nothing
Jotun Bane is Mistlands tier 1h axe.
You must be thinking of berserkir axes
is there no ashlands 1h axe
There are only berserkir axes.
wow.
This is Jotun Bane.
then. uh.
how much hp do you need missing to break even between tier 3 berserkir axes with blood enchant and tier 4?
i thought (and it's probably how to balance it) iolite had a chance to jump to ONE nearby enemy. like chain lightning. not spray lightning.
Does it not? I think it's just one enemy at a time, but can keep going as long as there are more nearby.
in the clip i just posted it appears to just split in a fork to everythingi and then bounce and keep forking
I see what you mean.
It's like 2% more damage from 10 hp lost, so probably like 20-30 hp would cover the difference
I wonder if that's just the visual effect though? it looks very similar to the visual from the Dundr.
that's a serious favor for blood berserkir axes versus wood...
if you're missing 90 hp that's substantial
i think its as the wiki states, there's a 30% chance to bounce to nearby enemies, and there were enough enemies and enough initial bounces that 30% just became 100% and math broke and everything died
I'm not sure if it increases chop damage tbh, but if it does that's indeed a good jump in damage to trees
surely someone's tried this.
Seems so, according to a reddit post i saw just now
Bigger question is how much you have to be missing to break even with a lightning enchant
In which case the answer is probably like 150+hp or so, depending on the weapon
:c oke
Maybe more like 200, as long as its not a slow weapon like 2h sword
you get that its versus trees, right?
i remember doing the math at one point for single target, but with the also chance for forked lightning whats the point in red
I do not
there's a point where trees just die in 2 hits or 1 hit and an extra 10% doesn't change it dying in 1 hit or 2 hits and i wouldn't try to stress about minmaxing wood chopping too hard
Nothing but sneak attacks
Or really, really, really wanting to optimize Fader kill speedrun or something
and if you are minmaxing woodchopping you're using a battleaxe so irrelevent anyway
#u#
what?
i mean if you're trying to math endgame minmax wood chopping with blood axes and jumping off your roof to increase your chop damage, why arent you just chopping down 5 trees at once with a battleaxe which is faster than blood axes
fiiiiiiiiine i'll stick to unenchanted berserkirs
lol no im saying use battleaxe!
Battleaxe = 2h axe
Not berserkirs
i'm aware... i didnt feel like explaining that most of my targets are single trees anyway
Oh lol
i'll admit
in black forest is very fun
you dont like planting your trees closer together?
i only plant oaks or defensive spruces
Yeah, wiki states EACH nearby target 30%, not one at a time. Big badda boom!
yeah... its pretty gross.
when it hits, yeah.
i got one more juicy bounce testing it out before my helmet and shield broke lol
it's rare enough that it's a nice treat and not completely op broken
imean compared to other gem weapons its broken, but..
yeah, but no more than it ever was.
if you get enough enemies to gather up i think you can just axe the outside of a charred fort and kill everything inside
lightning is a balanced weapon
yeah they should probably also make it not bounce off inanimate targets to balance it
and only bounce no fork
Itâs kind of funny making a bunch of little build piece and hitting them, watching sparks fly to nearby enemies
but im cheeseterminator2000 so it must be destroyed
About to face fader, any spoiler free tips?
Best foods and weapons you can get. Utility meads are very useful.
Don't stay still too long.
You definitely need fire resistance, movement and health/stamina/eitr meads are also great
Thank you friends
Attacks that start at half health are gonna suck. So unless you wanna wear the root harnesk for pierce resistance to them, get out of the way
if im not too late good luck, everything is telegraphed clearly and not a suggestion, standard âdont stand in the fireâ mechanics
Are there any pre Mistland light sources they don't prevent spawn? My surtling spawner base is so dark but even torches have the 20 meter spawn prevention. It's very annoying. Surtling trophies are not very bright at all
weapons and set up matter, he has a bit of HP, the biggest tip to give is a spoiler so I won't do that, also another tip, enjoy the boss music haha, I would drink ALL THE MEADS like Joelkkii has said, the easiest Fader cheese if you like cheese has to be done before you start the fight but his locations are so easy to find anyway so not a problem
IMHO Fader is easier than Queen if you do it smartly
The dvergr circlet but they also aren't very bright
Swamp keys on item stands or piles of dragon tears is about it.
how is the geyser not providing light?
Any tips finding traders?
Get on a boat (I prefer to use karves because it has less water displacement and you're less likely to get stuck) and just follow along the coastline going from continent to continent until you find them. If you don't get too far from the coastline you'll trigger the spawn and be able to see it on the map. Even in nomap games, you can usually see the ward lighting up the area from the boat, it's pretty easy to see it at night.
Oh, and wear a root harnesk so you don't die to random deathsquitoes while sailing close to a plains if you can?
I understand maybe a 10th of that given im new to the game
But i get the general gist
Didnt even know there was a trader but i hazard a guess since theres coins
You'll likely find them just throughout the normal course of exploring unless you're very unlucky.
Also is there a general gist for what damage types is best against what enemies?
Each trader has 10 potential locations in a normal spawn. Once you find one, it'll 'spawn' in that spot, and it'll be set as the location for that trader.
The color of the damage number tells you if they're weak/strong/neutral against damage types.
If the damage number pops up yellow, it means they're weak to that type.
White is normal/neutral. Grey means they're strong against it.
Seems like slash is a jack of all trades then
Thats what ive been using
Mind you i still havent beat the eldar and by the sounds of it theres a lot more bosses than i first thought
Elder is weak to slash type.
Wait... that's not true. đ
I just like using axes on it cause it reminds me of a tree. They are weak to fire though.
Most folks have a weapon type they like and stick to it, since skill levels aren't easy to raise especially when they start getting to 60+ and you get a lot of benefits from sticking to one type.
Going versatyle is the way
between 0 skill level and 100 you get a +140% damage boost, and a stamina cost reduction up to 33%.
The damage boost is mediocre after your skill hits 75
It's even more pronounced for archery.
Since your arrow pull time is affected in addition which increases your damage by reducing draw time between arrows, which further reduces your stamina cost.
Between 0 to 100 skill level, your bow is about 7x more effective at max level.
It's such a big difference that at a 90+ skill level, you can kill a stone golem faster with wood arrows than you could with a blunt weapon with around a 50ish skill level (Golems resist all physical damage except blunt)
this is just not true
I'm doing it right now.
I'm in the Ashlands in a no-boss challenge with mountain gear.
If you taken an iron mace and a hunstman bow, the mace will kill it faster
And killing ashland critters with wood arrows.
And it kills things as fast as a frostner, which I also have at a 80+ skill level.
Okay, bud.
Fenris set?
Nope. Mostly wolf gear with a root harnesk.
ahh makes sense
Arrows kill you too fast otherwise.
Agreed. I don't take it off once I craft it.
It straigt up cancels 1/3 physical damage you take
People would riot nowadays if it got nerfed
It's 50% and applies before armor reduction.
Which means a 150 damage hit will be reduced to 75 and armor is applied after.
yeah ik?
I was just saying it's a lot more than 1/3 đ
i meant like pierce, blunt and slash as in physical damages. It cancels out pierce (it gets lowered to oblivion) so it cancels out 1/3 physical damage
Turns 200 damage hits to a manageable 40~50ish.
Even with just mountain gear.
Ah. Yeah. I see what you mean.
You can survive a lord reto hit with that armor if it's one of his pierce attacks
Yes, it basically trivializes all pierce.
People don't use it but it's super effective against Fader since most his attacks deal pierce
I always use for Fader haha
How long will it take for me to fight the dragon if itâs my first time? I have max silver wolf armor and the crystal battle axe
battleaxe is the greatest weapon in the game. but you're gonna want something faster and better single target. sword spear club whatever
battleaxe is too slow
also bringing a bow is recommended and make sure the area is clear, Moder is a lot harder if other mountain things join the fight
Thanks đ Im definitely gonna die but weâll see what happens haha
You can pull it off with the battleaxe, I have many times, but it never hurts to play it safe. You can always utilize your axe skill with a 1h axe and shield.
you start swingin at the wrong time tho and that fast bite move is gonna get you during the first swing
Nah, not if you jump in with it
Use terrain to your advantage. Build earth walls you can use to evade the frost breath, random workbenches it'll go after instead of you etc.
people like battleaxe? đïž đïž
Everybody has a type.
it's soooooooo slow
crystal baxe is pretty cool, but silver sword is the coolest đ€”ââïž
Battleaxe is slow? You must not have used it.
i just did this most recent playthrough, but after a while i had to craft silver sword again
it looks nice in my bedroom wall thought đ
Ah, well you must not've used it very well, just recently had someone say the sword is faster and I matched their kill timing.
I mean sword 'is' faster. He didn't say the DPS was faster.
oh i mean the actual swing is sooooo slow, not how fast you kill enemy with it
It has a faster attack with less delay between hits.
Ah so it's more of a preference to see yourself moving faster I suppose
And smaller likelihood of getting hit while kiting. Not the biggest fan of the sword heavy attack though.
I wish there was a better reason to use it.
yeah i never use it, only slash
Almost every other weapon has a use case for the heavy attack, I don't think sword does though.
Ah, this is what the Battleaxe secondary is for
Poke them back, jump in with the primary swing.
They won't detect you quick enough to swing before you land yours.
It has a pretty slow wind up for a poke though, and doesn't have the utility of one handed hammers that do the same thing with a similar delay and a bigger knockback.
But... axes are cool and drip matters. đ
sword heavy attack is pretty goated tbh
3x is a lot
just gotta get real good at reading
It's just... it takes the same amount of time to do it as the 3 attack light combo. With the third hit doing 2x damage.
Which means for the same amount of time, you actually end up hitting harder with the 3x light combo over the single heavy 3x.
Yeah, with no damage reduction for multi enemy hits, one of the biggest advantages of using a sword.
love that
i've counted the frames
secondary is slightly higher dps than 123 combo
main use is after a parry tho
still, if you can chainstun it may be worth just holding normals
There is a cost though, once you press the heavy attack button you're locked in for the charge up.
yeah that is unfortunate
If you're only accounting for pure DPS, sure. But how many of those times do you get whupped while you're charging and something smacks you out of it?
depends, before or after feather cape
jump -> sword secondary gives you a lot of the mobility needed to safely do it
Hammers work in a similar fashion but there's a clear use case.
or again, in response to a parry
The knockback is enough that nothing can counter attack.
hammer is for playing ping pong with enemies that lock onto you like reto
That doesn't apply to swords.
its a good time
There just isn't enough of a benefit to the sword heavy over the 3x light. That's what I mean by there's no real reason to use it.
Daggers, spears, hammers, axes, atgeirs.. there isn't one real other weapon type where that argument would apply.
There's a clear use case for heavy attacks. Swords don't have that.
isn't the "secret combo" most dps anyway
yes lmao
sword still has among the strongest cancels
attack insta hold block attack
the commonly known secret sword combo is actually lower than spamming m1 tho
lol
but yea if you can manage the time you spend animation locked, sword secondary is good and fun
I wish it had a different heavy though. I don't know, maybe a flourish that does little damage but guarantees a stun if it hits.
Just something that's not the 'this thing hits a little harder but leaves you vulnerable for longer'.
i should frame count those animation cancels lol
would be very interesting balance-wise
there's one that's like 8.2x per second if you use a berserker mead
If you're doing animation cancels in a situation where it'd actually make a difference you're much better at this than I am. I'm usually busy just trying to make sure I don't catch a stray hit and get insta murked.
yea most of them are not useful unless you're sweaty af
which in this game, what's the point
I thought the higher damage ones were patched out with the ashlands update too, yeah?
eh some of them but there's always more
I didn't even know about the emote/heavy spam until after it was patched out.
their main use is to give my hands something to do while waiting for friends
Is there a way to turn off the hud? Mostly asking for screenshots
I think you press ctrl + f3 for that
ctrl-alt-f3 if thtat doenst work
Wish that was a little easier but at least it exists
If you have a macro program you can make a single keypress translate to those 3 keys.
If youâre okay with exploiting, yea
Actually insane how much damage you can do
Can necks be tamed?
Are maces any good?
They have same primary attack pattern as swords and more knockback. Secondary attack has high damage, knockback and stagger.
They are also effective against certain enemies.
I like to do no boss runs on hard+ games, and honestly I don't think it'd even be possible if I didn't have frostner to deal with swordsmen and askvins safely without burning through too much of my arrow supplies.
Wait theres secondary attacks?
Im such a dumbass of course there is
The spears one is to throw it
Why didnt i think other weapons could do the same
I uh
Dont know what any of that means
Im still a bronze scrub lol
Oh, it just means I don't kill any bosses, which locks me out of a lot of end game gear.
So I'm using mountain gear, to fight things 3 biomes higher.
It would be like taking bronze gear into plains for funsies.
Ah
Is there a general rule of thumb to enemy weaknesses that you could assume?
Idk im still trying to figure out what weapon i should main, all i got is a sword and the bear claws to my name
Dang....I feel like Moder should definitely be an exception lol
Moder unlocks tears and that lets me craft everything in the game.
Would defeat the point of a no boss run. Since technically that's the 'only' boss you need to kill to be able to build anything and everything.
Every biome has its own quirks but when starting out, I almost always main spears.
They attack fast, have a throw that you can use to take out enemies you don't always want to get up and personal with, and unlike bows you throw first instead of 'drawing' first.
Pierce is generally the worst. A lot of enemies resist it, almost none are weak to it
Slash is pretty good all around. Not much weakness to it, but also very few have resistance to it
Blunt imo is best, because it is kinda like slash in that not many resist it, but also a lot of enemies are weak to it.
But itâs usually good to have two different damage types so you can swap depending on what enemy you face
Yeah, by the time you get to mistlands, you usually want to start switching to either hammers or bows as a main.
Or go for magic once you have enough refined eitr.
Donât discount a weapon just because itâs pierce tho. IMO Bow, Atgeir, and Spear are super strong despite doing pierce
Just nice to have a mace in the back pocket
Bows also have the distinction of letting you exploit elemental weaknesses kind of like magic.
And the default bow you'll carry into ashlands have spirit damage, which just about all the charred enemies you'll find there will have a vulnerability to. And you can bring frost arrows that just about everything there is weak to as well.
And I don't know if devs just really like bows or something, but bows stack adrenaline 2x faster than melee weapons. So trinkets actually become really useful if you're using a bow with a high enough bow skill to rapid fire the thing.
There is way to tell about resistances and weaknesses indicated by the color of damage number:
White = enemy is neutral to that damage type,
Yellow = enemy is weak to that damage type,
Grey = enemy is resistant to that damage type.
I don't use blunt weapons after swamp really. Didn't think they were good for anything afterward...
Frostner specifically is useful all the way into Ashlands.
Hell, I've seen a dude parry twitchers and charred marksmen with a bronze buckler, then take em out with a copper knife.
Every real* weapon has its uses đ
(Fishing Rod and Tankard wouldn't be real weapons in my book, even though they do damage/block)
@spring gulch
The slow lets you circle seekers and askvins and exploit their slow turn speed. Doesn't matter how many stars they have if they can't actually turn fast enough to hit you.
You can also use the power attack to kill charred swordsmen without worrying about their feints and whatnot because the knockback guarantees their swing won't land.
Silver sword or Mistwalker is faster to be sure, but Frostner is 'safer' especially if you're playing harder modes where you can and do get 1 shot by certain enemies.
I've never crafted a frostner lol. I've used my silver sword all the way up to Ashlands then crafted the mistwalker to deal with the other enemies faster
Higher blunt skill increases knockback too. Once your blunt skill breaks 70+ it gets really nice.
Specifically for the exploiting turn radius thing. That little extra bit of knockback while it's still facing away from you keeps you safe where a mistwalker can't.
Even with both weapons having frost proc.
knockback is the worst thing about maces for me
i wanna hit the enemy, not push them away
obviously in challenge runs u might want that but for normal game naah
Haha. I would agree with you but I have so many hours in the game that I have to find ways to keep things hard enough to not get bored.
And that usually means I either play hardcore, or some equivalent of VH or higher in terms of difficulty, or both.
That means safety over DPS more often than not.
Even if I'm not playing hardcore if enemies have 2~3x the hp, I like having higher skill levels to even the field a bit, and dying a lot would make it harder to maintain those levels.
Any tips for healing? Is there any poultices? Or do i really have to disengage and wait it out
Meads.
You can craft potions using kegs.
Health food will give you a higher heal per tick compared to stamina food, so take that into account as well if you want to speed up natural healing. And of course, always fight with rest bonus.
You can always top off if you need to by dropping a campfire anywhere and sitting next to one for 20 seconds with no enemies nearby.
Not get hit, parry, block and dodge roll are your friends.
If things like trolls/bears keep getting you, it's not a bad idea to just load up a single player game, turn on god mode and practice parrying/dodge rolling until you can do it in your sleep.
It'll take you maybe an hour at the most but if you stop dying every time you make a mistake, it doesn't take that long to figure out their patterns. And valheim is very forgiving with their parry window compared to actual Soulslikes.
And this game actually takes into account your current hp/block skill vs enemy damage in their parry/block calculation, you can look up the exact formula if you're inclined, but you'll also get a general sense of what you can parry with what gear at certain difficulty levels.
The food you eat (or rather your HP) will matter too for parry/block calculation. Certain hits you can parry eating three health foods won't be possible to parry when you eat one health and two stamina for example.
When I've played hard or vhard on permadeath, I liked to pick DPS or Stagger over all else
I wanted an enemy to be dead or stun locked, not knocked .5 meters away from me
But I can see how the knockback approach can be appealing
Honestly ive gotten good at dodging and parrying.
aight good to know. All i got to my names are meads but id win
Yes, in last biome
in the last biome??? đ
in the last current biome
okey thenk u
If you don't want to wait that long, you can always change the world options. Can set it to allow regular portals to portal metals
But many find that detracts from the travelling aspect of the game
Ngl the traveling aspect is just afk in a boat for 20-30 minutes till I get back to base
If they added ocean content (which I know they won't) it could be more worth it to use regular portal settings
going to ashlands early is also an option
for me the travelling aspect is going for a 3 minute run to bring metal from a crypt or mountaintop to my base
Can't stand making a base at spawn and then transporting everything for an hour
Same here, I make 1 main base in the meadows and eventually I'll take the time to bring some iron and silver over for upgrades and some building.
Most of iron and silver is used in a temporary forward base that once I'm done in the biome that the base is for it gets abandoned with only a portal left there, so I can go back if I ever need to be in the biome again.
Once I get into the plains and I find a plains that is next to a mistland I'll make a new main base and the meadows base is converted into a big farm / breeding base with a portal hub to not so frequently used portals.
Is there fishing? I see fish in the seas
You need to find trader who sells fishing rod.
Bummer
You might eventually stumble upon them.
whats the discord server for the BRS
if you don't find this trader there is also a rare POI in the 4th biome where you can find a fishing pole but very limited bait, the trader is not too hard to find there is some tricks, sometimes if unlucky just need to sail a lot
what are the most valuable things in frost caves besides crystals, necklaces, and vegvisirs?
Yeah, Fenris hair and claws. You can make neat armor and weapon from them.
do fenrings appear in frost caves at night?
so fenris hair is sometimes in da chests?
Rather on the walls near the altars and on the pedestals đ
ohh
Fenris hair is plentiful. Theyre also on walls in hallways, just break things
Anyone have join problems last night
Like if you were joining your friends sorry gotta specify
AFK? I wouldn't dare miss a chance to put on a sea shanty and sing to the fish while I bring my hard earned materials home. đš
??
Guess that's a no, keep in mind no service is provided by Valheim itself.
#screenshots message How do I place corewood beams in the direct center of these existing beams?
I think if you attach a 26 roof top piece, snapping the centre to the end of your corewood beam, the bottom edge of it should match the centre of your beam.
you ought to be able to snap a new beam onto whatever the beam next to it is snapped on? you know about the different snapping points i assume?
alternate snapping points like by pressing Q or E with a building piece out? i think thats hotkeys unless i changed them
rudemann got it yacko.
'preciate it.
i JUST realized what you meant too lol sorry.
it's alright âșïž đč don't beat yusself up.
i thought you meant like.. beams in the center of other beams like layered like a mozzarella stick
i do that to fortify my beams with woodiron
mozzironella *stick
Fenrings don't drop fenris hair. Ironically....actually they drop nothing remotely useful đ€Ł
Their trophy makes for a cool trinket though.
Where do you find volture and volture eggs easiest? Coast?
The nests are found everywhere, but coasts are maybe little easier areas to manage.
You see the voltures before you see the nest, sometimes you can see them further away inland, but easier to manage on coast yes
Voltures can also spawn in the oceans with the spikes
Obviously, dont go looking for them there
you need the trophy for bait
I know you need it to catch tetra but I feel like those frost cave ponds always deposit their tetra just outside the pond.
I don't think I've ever actually bothered fishing for em. I just walk up to the pond and grab all the fish laying at the edge.
yeah, that's fair. There aren't usually more than one or two still in the pool.
That's one thing I would love to see fixed at some point. I love making fish ponds in my base, but I end up spending a lot of time throwing fish back in the water.
is the game done yet
No it is not fully released yet
You certainly can đ lots of stuff was added since covid times
If you havent played since thrn you still have 100+ hours of new gameplay to get through and plenty of sidestuff and changes
how much time does it take to make a stone portal in ashlands in your opinion??
and how far is it i think 30 45 min boat ride i guess
With a bit of luck you can get it pretty much as soon as you land if htere is a morgen cave nearby
I've never done it. It won't take very long if you don't die but if you haven't been to ashlands yet and you're going early you will die a lot
so we dont actually need to go to ashlands that early i guess i should stick around in my little base more
imma sail those scrap irons back to base đ
so i unlocked the blast furnance, is there an equivalent charcoal kiln? i would like to smelt more than 25 wood at one time so i dont have to make like 10 charcoal kilns to get sufficient coal.
Not really but you can either build more of the charcoal kilns or make a portal circle to all the surtling spawners you can find in the swamps.
is there a deconstructor in the game? would make transporting ore through portals possible for me
like make a ton of nails, teleport, deconstruct back into ore.
No, but you can enable metal teleporting through portals from the world settings.
me and my friend were in the ashlands, and 3 morgen came out of the ground, one of them was a one star, it was pure daytime, is this some sort of event?
was this on PTB?
PTB?
public test branch
no
oof. i've had two come out right next to each other before, forget if it was day or night. never had 3 at once. i think they do sometimes spawn near on top of each other, probly RNGesus just came down to smite you.
hm strange, 3 seems above normal spawn limit unless something really weirrd going on with zone border spawns
anyone else experience stuttering? I got the game 2 days ago everything runs fine just micro stutters every few seconds iv tried high and low settings and tried changing the render distance with the dev commands haven't been able to fix it anyone had this problem or know any fixes?
There can be more than one at the same time in form of those that emerge from ground around the ruined areas in Ashlands.
Those are one time spawners, they can also have stars from those spawners.
yeah I thought 2 not 3
Is there a trick to getting serpents to spawn? Bc I've sailed all night, during storms, and they just don't show up....
are you actually in ocean biome?
Did you remember praying Rngsus?
Jk, but yeah they don't spawn always each night. But sometimes they might spawn bit further and be easily missed.
U need to have valuable cargo and low ship hp and have spent ages getting said cargo and then they show up
This ^
It also ups the chances if you're playing no map and you're lost
The wind needs to change into a headwind too, I forgot that fun part
Ah okay lol. And do they respawn in the same general spot?
Also second question that's driving me crazy. Someone told me that leviathans have eyes, but I am hopping all over this thing and looking under as best I can, and i don't see anything resembling a face...
IIRC they have no set spawners, they are randomly spawned. But having both conditions (night & rain) increases the chance for their spawning.
They have face:
YOOOO
