I'm not giving you any reasons to not protect your builds, just reasons to do it where enemies might function properly.
first getting a Plains farm set up as soon as you hit the plains is a PIA to fortify against Fuling patrols if you dont utilize terrain walls
All sledges have same AoE.
I've had regular stake walls at my farm on the coastline for about 4 years, I havn't seen a single piece of a wall take damage once.
👀
stake walls you have to repair
I havn't had to a single time.
lox taming would be a pain too I suppose But I already made the terrain walls for their pen by then
It's like you think terrain walls are cheating somehow.
Not cheating, cheesing.
Exploitative to a degree.
I mean good for you, friend but terrains walls just efficient
I understand, I just thought I'd raise some points against them.
It's much more engaging to have bases that can take damage in my opinion.
and it's not cheesing because you dont miss any mechanics by doing it, unless you call fortification upkeep a mechanic
Nah, it's for one purpose only. I don't stand on them and shoot. I don't want hours of work wasted.
You absolutely do, base defense objects are there for a reason, not to mention utilizing stronger walls as you progress.
it functions as a wall, so any base defenses that damage or slow em down (last I played was the patch with the ballistae) can be used along with the terrain wall with no redundancy
If that's not appealing, that's all well and good, I'm just putting out my reasons.
I've also refrained raising earth walls around my main base for long time now, first because they are cheesing and second because they look ugly.
I do dig moat tho, so upcoming ||drawbridge|| will be neat addition.
I refrained from moats because expansion is a hassle
might give it a try this playthrough because terrains walls are indeed ugly
Making big enough area from the start might help with that need to expand ever.
I'm going to re-ask this question as it got a bit swept away: if I reset the World Keys on a dedicated server, does that set the world back to Meadows level for all players, which from my understanding just means no higher level bad guys in the Meadows at night? Is there any hidden issues if I do that?
it will affect what traders can sell
Oh, yep, I didn't think of that. It will reset the purchase options, but higher level things already purchased in the world won't disappear though, right?
nothing will disappear, you just won’t be able to buy more
Your friends might disappear if you play too much valheim
how can I raise bow levels quickly? If that is even possible
thousands of wood arrows, several bows, trap a stone golem in a pit and shoot it from above, point blank, by just clicking, not holding
Shoot twigs
that works too, but I think twigs give less XP per hit
Nah the target takes much longer
do I just do the same thing as sarin said but at twig?
yeah. Though I'm not sure if that method will work as reliably, because twigs are smaller and not every arrow might connect. And it might bother you by throwing stones at you
You just stand really close to the twig and spam left click
won't it hit me with the axe and knock me back?
Make a wall behind you so that you won't get pushed away like build yourself in a small box
alright thank you guys
it doesn't matter which bows I use right? I read that I could use wood arrows above
wood arrows because they're cheap to make, any bow will do but the earlier ones are more stamina efficient
which bows do you use personally
for training, finewood is IMO best, crude bow has accuracy issues.
Hello seasoned vikings. Wanted to ask about a problem bugging me in my personal solo world (steam, local files, vanilla, survival with reduced death penalty). It's a very old world started before H&H update. In recent months, sometimes I hear the "something broke" sound nearby and eventually I notice in the ground materials of some broke piece. It happens VERY FEW times, only a single random object breaks every time, always in zones nearish where I was active. I'm 200% sure there was no stability issues in any of those cases because most of those pieces were placed hundreds of game days before the problems and even some where directly touching ground. Today I just saw it happening with my eyes, a 1m regular wood pole placed directly over the ground broke just in front of me. When I looked around, I also found a forge placed nearby (to provide me construction radius where I was working) suddenly broke too (it had been on that same ground for about 30 game days). The place this all happens is my city, lots of buildings there but spread over a very large area too; so there's LOTS of total instances but the max counted so far in any location is 57k (where the last breaks happened, count is between 35k and 45k). What could be happening? Have somebody faced a similar problem?
Hitting T.W.I.G. grants same xp as hitting enemy mobs, archery target grants less XP but you can retrieve arrows from it unlike other means.
Hello, noticed that even i got 70ms latency towards a dedicated server as a client, sometimes when other players 'claim' the area (as i understood they do if they were there first) it becomes very laggy, making it very hard to fight properly. Is there any way around this? Looks like game breaking tech.
I saw a lot of online servers use mods whose specific purpose is to improve the network behavior of the game (that's one of its weak points). In pure vanilla, dedicated servers could be rough on lag issues no matter the connection latency
I will look into it, although I am not the host. Seems like something that should work by now, wonder what is holding it back, must be some tough tech.
the problem is the connection between you and the other player
I looked into what you said and Better Networking seems to be an attempt at improvement although it is impossible to change the way this works due to amount of physics calculation that needs to be done. Looks like we are still long ways to go tech wise until this works smooth. Thanks.
what's the latest game food that stacks up to 20?
Maybe ||bread|| with the 20 stack size?
There is also one food item in current end game biome with stack size of 50.
thanks
Can also spawn Bonemass and make a platform above him to shoot at him
Or just level naturally as you progress. High skills aren’t really needed for anything
oh I just really really really really want to lower the amount of time I spend on charging the bow. I keep on exhausting my stamina 😔
Also I think it only took my friend a third/quarter(?) of my time to fully charge their bow? I watched that in jealousy haha
I have to admit I suck at building, how do I make this platform above him in detail?
Prob guides on yt. I couldn’t really tell you though i detest skill grinding
fair enough
My bows also do quite pathetic damage for the amount of time I spend to fully charge and shoot, compared to my friends who are using either melee weapons or mage stuff. We are currently at ashlands, I'm honestly not sure what else I should improve on, as a noob as I am
Bows just aren’t realllyyyy made for Ashlands. Enemies there are resistant to pierce
But if you do want to use them, use frost arrows prob
But if you do get high bow skill they’ll still be good. Bows are pretty broken, and theyre the only weapon that hextupples their dps at high skill level
Other weapons only get a bit over double damage
whaaaaaa
do people make use of adrenaline? If so how should I raise it best?
I couldn't get it up most of the time to activate trinkets 🥲
In a lot of biomes it’s tough to activate trinkets, but Ashlands is better because of mob density. Parrying and using fast attack speed weapons is good for building adrenaline
Or weapons good at staggering like battleaxe or atgeir (though it’s a bit hard to stagger Ashlands enemies)
Or a barrage of ice shards I imagine is good too for adrenaline generation.
Most importantly tjough just don’t grab a trinket that takes 100 adrenaline to trigger. Something like 60 adrenaline is more manageable.
My favorite trinket is fins of destiny because they have a 10 adrenaline activation cost. But those are mostly good in swamp and mistlands. Kinda useless in Ashlands
is it ||cooked bonemaw meat||?
you have to parry and dodge or fight more actively somehow. the game was changed so parry costs zero stamina instead of tons of stamina and dodge is greatly reduced, so normal gameplay now is supposed to include a lot of parrying and dodging
I do spam dodges but that also means I run out of stam pretty fast haha. I should take notice of my stamina bar more frequently, not just when I couldn't do anything due to lack of it
Parrying.. uh is that the effect that staggers mobs when I block them just in time? I can't do it really well
It's a pity I couldn't really make use of adrenaline if I solely rely on bows then
if you’re actually dodging you should get stamina back, if you dont see the yellow sparkles you didnt need to dodge
you still lose more than you gain and it interrupts regen unlike parrying
yeah parrying is the PINNGGGGG sound that staggers mobs. if you’re solely relying on bows i cant help you they sound like a nightmare for adrenaline i dont use them
rip
i would practice parrying things, just go out to a handful of greydwarves or something, its the most op thing in the game
I recommend trying out melee. I sucked at parrying initially but learned over timr, and it feels much more engaging than bows imo
Not necessarily stronger, but more fun
yellow sparkles?
Practicing in Ashlands may not be the best environment tho
i think yellow? maybe white? when you dodge and actually dodge something that would have hit you it does a particle effect
I probably can't see it in the mess of combat lol
dodge meaning utilize the invulnerability frames of the roll, not just reposition yourself
huh
you’re invulnerable from when you start rolling til about when youre upside down
I thought I had to dodge to get out of the way, I didn't know it comes with iframes
you can roll directly into a troll who is down smashing his fists and take zero damage
damn
it sounds like youd highly benefit from just messing around with a few greydwarves for a bit. practice parrying them, dodge roll, look for the roll sparkles that say you i-framed damage
before you fall into just using a bow because you cant dodge or parry, cuz the game only gets harder, and imo you miss out on the game if you just use bows
Twig has good variation in his attacks i really like practicing parrying with him
i guess you could do that too
keeps you on your toes while being completely safe
pretty safe fighting 3 non star greydwarves too
and working on timings of an actual mob in the game youre gonna be parrying
@barren rivet would you ever recommend parrying with bear paws, since their parry bonus is much higher than their block armor, meaning it's hard to block and not parry?
Parrying with bear claws is good
well yeah of course theyre made to parry
theyre my safe defensive weapon before i get bronze buckler
buff 2handed sword block force when 🫠
you mean block armor?
if that is the one yes
giant metal stick 🥺
but it shouldn't be on par with shield, that'd be too good
what is it that you cant parry? evasion mantle would help, and yeah cant make it as good as 1 handed
id rather make their block armor worse and give them more damage
Since I run heavy+magic, anything in the ashlands that is 1star is deadly
FFE diet
well you shouldnt expect to parry things then lol
its based on max hp block armor isnt your problem if you have 1 hp food worth of hp
you choose the non-parrying playstyle
I still parry to get bonus dmg and kill them as soon as possible, but the moment a 1star joins the party parrying is a struggle since they now join the mass that im trying to kill 😭
I should try running HHS next time 🤔
HHS diet is probably my least used diet in game
or evasion mantle basically turns 1 star into no star
idk, but its all about your food and gear choices. of you kind of use hp food you can kind of parry
imean if you use bubble who cares just parry with a bubble
can a maxed out ashland user parry 2stars with HHS
no carapace buckler, that thing is busted for parrying
free damage sponge
I doubt it, but check the sheet
sevrahn whispers again
the list must be checked
again, if you were using bubble, who cares just parry with bubble
while looking for 2 star boars it's adviseable to kill all the other boars not just for the meat and scrap you need but also for the boars to respawn differently so you can do it again
right?
sure, where are you looking for 2 star boars btw?
the meadows around my meadow base (or kind of literally anywhere)
starred boar appears once at runestones
oh.
can i see my distance from spawn in meters with f2
not sure
but the edge of the map is 10.5 km away from center
so about 10% away from center
On HHH I parry 0 stars on vhard with like 60% of my stagger bar filling using carapace
I imagine HHS should be fine too, though I guess it depends what you’re parrying with. “Not carapace buckler” isnt very specific
Is anyone able to drop me a stone golem trophy n a cultist trophy I need one of each n I'm struggling to get either BC they r apparently difficult to get
why not just spawn them in then?
Don't know how
if your friends can't do that for you get better friends
What's friends?
named martyr and doesn't know what friends are...
What's that supposed to mean
if you're doing it right a martyr makes many friends
the only good reason to be a martyr is to make a point
Martyr is sumone killed for their belief
this is off topic anyway
sorry
here for how to enable console
wrong chat hold on
It doesn't work
hey uhm, can non-hosts get stuff from commands with creative enabled? I am not too familiar with the system yet
the host can give items
how good is the root harnesk in the plains, ive heard a lot of good things about it but is it really that good
Yes it’s that good
It essentially makes the most common/annoying enemies harmless in plains and mistlands, and kind of also in Ashlands
In plains it makes deathsqutoes and spear throwers harmless
Only thing is it does make you vulnerable to shame. And torch fulings.
So have some fire resist on hand
should i take it off during yagluth
holy shit me and my friend just tested, he had the root harnesk on 7 damage, i had no root harnesk 48 damage
my host will have to be afk for a bit, and leave the server on
We are trying to spawn seeker soldier trophies I suppose, I wonder if you have any suggestions for that? Maybe we could something else other than farming that mob
log onto a world of your own and spawn them in with the character and then log back in?
lol yeah I should have thought of that thanks
Mmm very nice
And it only gets stronger if you up the difficulty or face a starred mob (not that deathsquitoes can have stars)
should we take it off during yagluth?
@raven grove #memes-and-clips message did you build this yourself?
You can it is basically mosquito-proofing you. You could also use a mead for that as well. Could use it for yag just dont forget to chug when time hits 0
Just drink fire resist for yag. Fire resist fully nullifies the weakness AND gives you resistance on top of that
What weapon is best at killing bear in black forest stage
bronze sword/ abyssal razor/ fire
early axes, you can only parry their swipe but you can do half their hp in one parry
appreciate it man
Seems like you're getting different answers, but as Yacko said early axes is very nice if you are able to find the parts for them in meadows
Once you get black forest stuff though, a bronze sword is pretty nicce, or once you beat a bear you can make nice weapons out of their drops
Alright appreciate it ill try an see
In short: generally any weapon with slash damage. Swords have strong secondary attack.
any tips for killing queen?
psssst: You can build certain things while inside dungeons
like what?
If melee:
- Weapon 1: ||Mistwalker/Krom are strongly suited against her, if Mistwalker pair it with Carapace shield/buckler||,
- Weapon 2: ||AoE option against her adds (Demolisher/Himminafl/Bilebombs)||,
- Armor: ||full Carapace or Carapace/Root Harnesk combo||,
- Meads: ||major HP, Ratatosk, lingering stamina, poison resistance||,
- Tactics: ||you can time sword secondary attack between her attacks, dodging or parrying works well but her attacks have huge knockback, which can be negated by standing between her and wall||, also ||you can fight on top of the arena and fall out with feather cape to have breather if things go down South||.
If magic: - ||use all staves except Dead Raiser which can be meaningless, Ember staff works well as both damaging Queen and her adds, keep your distance and use shield bubble, eitr mead also helps||.
Benches, torches, stuff like that
One of the things you can build is very useful
bear paws and bronze sword and early axes work great, any other axe or a knife will also work well
❔
hello there is a way to cheat in the game ? like in creative mode or smth like that
or to give u shit and stuff idk with infinite stamina
use console commands, it takes a bit of fiddling to get used to it
^
Look up how to use console/devcommands
Can spawn stuff in and change rules like stamina drain
Greetings Survivors!
I made the Food Prep Table, then the fish Press next to it, put a couple fish in, was expecting fish oil, but nothing happens, the fish just sit in the press.
What did I miss to get it to work right?
Thank you!
That sounds like a mod... a question for #mods-discussion
oh, okay, ty
im on my first but tehcnically second playthrough, is 4 crpyts good enough to setup a swamp base?
I technically look for ones that have ten or more, otherwise I would just make a portal on top of a crypt and a few odds and ends there and look for better if only 4. Portal there and then cart home or sail back after building one or the other.
Finding the bog witch for example is a good reason for a swamp base.
Today I learn that by default some stuff aren't allowed to pass through portals, like metal stuff...
For my first playthrough my friend made it so that we can bring resources home through wood portals so I didn't know, but jesus, do players just bring a cart with them all the time?
Cart, boat or both
If youre sooo far out. Id just build a mini base. Bring over surtling cores through a portal and build a furnace. find some copper make a forge rq and then build the item you want. If the metal is for a base add on than yeah....you gotta travel back to your main base to place it.
Have you made a boat yet?
first time playing the game, wondering if the mist in the mistlands disappear after killing the boss of the biome? The biome looks pretty nice just to bad with all the mist (some patches have no mist 🤷🏻♂️ )
no that won't happen, killing the boss doesn't change anything visually there
Aight
Lore-wise the boss isnt related to the mist itself at all, they just choose mist because is a good place to hide. Since most bugs preffer dark places
Hey folks, does PC-PS crossplay work? thx
Once PS5 version is added the crossplay will work between it and other platforms.
Hey, is there anything other than rested that boosts exp gain for skills? Thanks.
Only rested buff, nothing else.
okie dokie, a tree fell on me and I died. It's so much effort to try level up multiple skills, like cooking for example when a tree is gonna lower it again 😅
rite of passage
You can change death penalty settings from world modifiers, second easiest setting has 1% skill loss penalty. 👍
Welcome to Valheim, viking.
it doesnt remove it, just reduce it
first lesson. Have some kind of food on all the time, even if it's just leftovers when you're doing housework
yeah that
oh yeah, it's not the first time, won't be the last time either. I just didn't see the half tree stuck up in another.
I had eaten some, just not enough to survive the tree at terminal velocity 🙁
Thx, so no dates as of now, correct? 🫰
Correct. No exact dates other than during 2026.
wait that can happen? 😭
Tree falling on you and you dying to it? Yes.
please tell me someone has beaten a boss by felling trees 😭
there is no way right?
i think if the monster is big enough they don't get damaged by trees
they can damage anything
but against heavier enemies they need to be moving faster so it will be difficult
I actually saw eikthyr take a big chunk of damage yesterday from a tree he chopped on himself XD its possible I guess
this is a bit redundant to ask, but it has been 2 years so I'm wondering
Would you still recommend this video? Are there more posts or videos on the performance topic I should also check out?
My laptop is pretty potato, and I am running with everything at the lowest possible and turned off, but at best it is 20-25fps in the wild and 5-10fps at base, with a lot stuttering. I don't want to give up trying yet but it does seem like my fella has no hope.
the video was already 3 years old then, it was still beneficial. it's not gonna make it fantastically better, but it might improve it some
alright
There might be newer one too, IIRC.
I have to search for them then
There are graphic options in the game that weren't there in the video, so I guess they were added later
is it alright if i burn all my cloudberries on medium stamina potions
I mean theyre pretty plentiful
I dont really use stamina potions
Fire resistance tho
Hi @broken fjord
i couple them with eikthyr buff for extended swims and sometimes at night when i'm not rested
You playing without a map ?
swimming traumatizes me... First deaths and all that
Is it okay to swim long distance then?
eikthyr buff reduces swim stamina useage and stamina potion refills your stamina in any circumstance. you can also stay in the water still for two minutes to rest until the stamina potion timer empties
interesting
i used 2 stamina potions and a health potion the first time a leviathin near shore sunk into the sea to survive
I am gonna keep that in mind
hey guys, i want to build traps, I have a lv5 workbench, created a mechanical spring, have found black metal and bronze nails, but still it doesnt show up in my workbench, how can that be=
have you made iron nails yet?
yeah but they are no ingredient
as long as you've made iron nails once is what counts in many cases
Question about playing with mods:
Do I have to uninstall mods before playing in a world hosted by a person with no mods? Primarily talking about not-client-side mods.
try #mods-discussion
yeah still doenst show up ±)
oh my, it's all the way down, thanks
Not entirely sure on this, but it might need something other than a regular workbench, like a black forge.
Bc its in ur hammer
build them like you build campfires in your misc tab
is there an option to turn interface off completely for sc
i remember i did that , but forgot how exactly
ctrl f3
ty
Hello Vikings, I finished the ashlands, killed the final boss and just finished the mini bosses for Hildir’s quest, is there something else to do, or just preparations for the deep north ?
now you can finally play the game
restart with a challenge, build, prep for deep north, explore, etc
I’m eager to start using magic, maybe level up my skills
Did you find mysterious locations?
No what is that ?
Oh I stopped going into those caves when I thought they only provide portals mats and bones, good thing I marked them on the map, thanks for the hint
they also give soft tissue if you need that
Yeah and that I have a lot of tissues I guess I need to expand my sap farm
Some putrid holes might have special vegvisir for the first location, which will point to the next and the next to the last.
You made my day guys a new thing to do in valheim, I was a little sad when I killed the last boss
do traps also work when you are not around= Or because nothing is rendered in, its useless if youre out of range=
What I also did in my most played world is that I built outpost bases in each biome, collected all the trophies, crafted all armor sets and weapons and made all food items and put them on display per their biomes.
what would the traps be trapping if nothing is rendered in?
well i had hoped for rabbits lol. But what is the point if you have to be close= CAn just as well use a bow then=
if you want passive rabbit gathering wood spikes are way more cost effective. still have to be close enough for things rendered in but they love running into spikes
do what i do and equip fenris gear, 3 stamina foods and run around mistlands with a sword
Is the ashlands doable without magic? Because there are a ton of staffs, and i dont want to bother learning all of it lol
you never need to use magic at any point, like all weapon types it's optional but more effective for certain fights
Ashlands is beatable with any weapon.
bows too? 🥹
Bows, one of the best weapons? You bet.
fr? 😭
What have I been doing wrong
Anyway uh
when it is described in the game that something is "resistant" or "weak" (or "very weak"? I remember seeing that somewhere) against something, is there an exact modifier, uh numbers, to go with such adjectives?
Yep that's how I do it lol
resistant and weak are 50%, slightly resistant and slightly weak are 25%, very resistant is 75% and very weak is 100%
they're applied before armor so in most cases the harnesk will make you take less than half of the damage you would take otherwise
wait the root set bonus adds another pierce resist?
So how does it stack?
the strongest resistance is used. this means resistances can override weakness too
that sounds like something that might be gone in a future update haha
I'd like to see it get bonus armor against pierce instead of % reduction so it loses value in progression like other armor pieces
so the pierce resist from set bonus does nothing because the harnesk already provides it?
the set bonus doesn't have pierce resist
weird, I guess someone needs to correct the wiki then
I am not in the game so I can't tell sadly
the full set row is showing the effects of all pieces worn together
if you look at the page for the set bonus ('improved archery') you'll see it only increases bow skill
ah my bad then
From what I can see, the wiki describes this accurately.
yeah I read it wrong
once hildir appears somewhere she's there forever and won't appear anywhere else, right?
Same as other traders. 10 possible spawn locations and first activated will spawn the trader and disable other locations for good.
Check the map table in front of her.
Unlocking farming set requires visiting in ||smouldering tomb||.
Do you only have your primary and secondary attack in valheim or do you get abilities like in other rpg games your sword could have many abilities when that’s equipped like in mmorpgs or is valheim just basic skills generally?
Most weapons have a primary and secondary attack capability, as well as a combination pattern. Depending on the class or weapon itself, you have different specialization effects. It's generally that simple.
Valheim doesn't have any capability to train different attacks or special skills in your weaponry.
I.e. your 1h sword will always just swing (primary) or thrust (secondary). The damage type(s) can be different for specific weapons, like Mistwalker, but it still does the same attack animation.
Ok perfect i just wanted to be sure, thank you 🙂
is there any way to stop buildings from being damaged from rain besides roofs... I honestly hate that mechanic
Has anyone experienced any changes in spawn suppression very recently? I've noticed deer, boar and greydwarves spawning in my settlement, even just a few meters away from a campfire, in the last week or so? Previously no problems at all with spawn suppression.
🔥
You’ll need to mod it to achieve this #mods-discussion
In order to try help you, you’ll need to provide details like a vanilla world, multiplayer or solo, on a server or just locally etc? Are you using mods?
Once you get to ashlands, yes
Ah, yes, of course. It's a single player, unmodded, pre-bogwitch-generated world on the most recent patch. Up until recently, a large area around my base was spawn-free.
I realized I swapped a few workbenches for campfires in the same spots, so I wonder if that's causing the problem somehow. They should have identical spawn-prohibition areas though.
Shouldnt change much unless the workbenches had upgrades near them previously 🤔
what does ashlands provide? 👀
The ||shield generator|| 😄
oh yee
Agreed, which they do not. I can't figure out why it would be happening.
Only other thing i can think of is you having the original workbenches placed really precisely to they juuuust covered everything and the campfires that replaced them are just slightly differently placed. Thus uncovering some spots where enemies can now spawn 🤔
I tried to avoid the possibility of that by building in some overlap to my spawn-inhibit circles. 🤷
The only thing I could think of was that somehow the behavior of campfires was changed subtly? Like if they're extinguished, or entirely covered by stone blocks or something.
A unique "warzone-like" experience
No updates since february afaik.
what to do with chitin when you have a fully upgraded abyssal razor and harpoon?

->
harpoon cannot be upgraded?
@nocturne quarry #screenshots message You can use the chair hack to get in or just move on to the next one.
release them back into the sea and youll find them more easily in future valheim runs
@halcyon moss #screenshots message It's a fir tree. Cut it with a stone axe and go in.
Hey, what does the crafting skill effect? I just got an extra bronze bar which was nice. Is the chance technically higher if I make bars individually instead of x5 at a time? Thanks.
Crafting speed and chances for extra yields.
for every single craftable item? in which case, it's better to just make x1 at a time to boost chance?
Only for items like arrows, nails, bronze bars, etc. Not for weapons, armor pieces or other equipment.
But for bronze it's better to use 1x recipe for more possible extras.
anything stackable can get a bonus
Holding the shift key will allow you to make 5 of the same item. You can get more extras this way.
Are two health-based foods and one stamina-based food the best combo for bosses or the other way around?
i just find it funny honestly
https://discordapp.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202320491377856512/1500840452390387722 This conflicts with what you say. I am unsure which is true.
Depends, some prefer HHS and others HSS, depending on their playstyles.
which playstyles go with which food combos, like typically speaking?
if you want to parry things you need a lot of health, especially in later biomes
So bronze is a special case because there is a recipe for making 5x bronze. If you use that recipe, the crafting skill gives you a chance to get +1-+5 extra bronze. If you use the bronze x1 recipe and hold shift, you still get 5 bronze as a minimum, but the crafting skill allows a chance to get +1/3/6/10/15 extra instead. Also, since you're crafting 5 times, you get 5x the skill increase this way.
what are the meaningful differences between ||black forest buffet platter|| and ||swamp dweller's delight|| besides the ingredients?
what happens to loot in your boat if it gets destroyed
turns into floating wooden crates
does that only apply to certain items?
i had a bunch of black iron in my boat and it completely vanished
It was in the storage, not just in your boat, right?
yes
Its possible the boxes were destroyed too, but i dont think they get targeted
Nothing, but you can eat both(and meadows one) at the same time
wolf jerky is... much cheaper
Iirc Swamp feast has 1 hp/tick more than meadows and black forest feasts.
While at swamp era if I find Bog Witch early I like to eat portion of each feast for total of 130 HP and 155 stamina. They also save item slots from food items.
oh.
Accordkng to wiki meadows has 2hp tick while bf and swamp both have 3
So I recalled correct.
Feasts also lasts almost twice as long
All feasts have duration of 50 minutes.
What do I need to read again? 👀
swamp and black forest feasts have 1 more hp / tick than meadows, rather rhan what you said here
the um.
the mistake was... relevant...
given i asked this
oh also
@tired root in case of any mistake: swamp dweller's delight is not kept behind bonemass. that's just mountain logger's
someone was wrong about this iirc...
Mountain logger stew is behind Moder.
Bonemass doesn't unlock new feasts.
triple feast before moder?
DEATH TO CLANKERS
seems like you support a diet of three meals at once in 50 minute intervals?
nothing better than coming out of elder and running 3 feasts. feasts are the goat of early game
For exploration/material gathering it works well. But for combat I like using HSF diet.
what's materially different about HSF?
I like the balance they bring. Especially with the best options in later biomes will bring significant difference vs all feasts.
On Xbox how would I be able to access cheats I know how to pull up the menu but I don’t understand how to input the commands
Type devcommands into the console 🙂 that will enable you to use other commands
I found it only works when I put a / infront of the dev command thing but I dont understand why when I try to do like Godmode or fly and spawn ext it don’t work I’ve tryed with the / and without the slash
They you have opened chat 🙂 not console window
I’ve only been able to open the chat window using lb and the 2 squares I can’t open the dev one with like lb,Rb,Lt,Rt ext
I kinda thought that they took it out of the game and the chat window was like the new way to put them in but maybe not
Go to settings and on the first page there should be "enable console" option, then try the LB + LT + Start 😄
but what's better about HSF at swamp/mountains?
FFF gives you 9 hp/tick
HSF only gives you 7
and FFF lasts 50 minutes for each of them
I should have clarified that I generally use HSF at the end of mountains/early plains state.
I don't bother too much with the HP/tick stats.
what are you eating at the end of mountains?
Wolf skewer/eyescream/seafarer.
hmm
ok.
before seafarer HFF has 2 more hp than HHS
HHS if wlfskwr/es/ssg is 166
HFF is 168 if wlfskwr/meadows/bf
why do you eat Sailor's Bounty but not Serpent Stew?
Depending how many serpents I gather, I save rest of the meats for later use. Sailor's bounty last for long time.
ok.
With that food combo I have 156 hp and 181 stamina against Moder.
soo... yeah. wolf skewer/eyescream while a bit lacking on hp/tick is 86 stamina/health together
2 early feasts together is 70
you're playing optimally 😔
Few Hp/tick stat less doesn't matter that much in the end.
I like having more stamina, but not too little HP, so I find HSF generally good and balanced.
FFF misses out on 16 stamina/hp yeah
Also, its better to eat 2 mistlands foods and a plains feast than plains, mountains and swamp feast
until i unlock mountain logger stew hhs is a better idea hff
same here just retrograde
better to eat wolf skewer and eyescream than any of the lesser feasts
you probably picked up on that tho
FFF generally becomes viable after the biome boss?
I'm using dathost as a dedicated server
Can I kick a member who forgot to logout?
I'm the admin
feasts are kinda useful if you wanna get eitr on a build which doesnt spec for it
People in #dedicated-server might have more insight
Not after mountains i would say, since then the best biome food will usually outperform earlier feasts
is it possible to have a multi floored garden?
or is it impossible to have multiple levels of dirt like that
Best you can do is terrace gardens or maybe trying some dirt pillars to reach a second floor for something like that but otherwise, it's as Larsi says
ty
so FFF is a good option during swamps after finding the bog witch and late into mountains after defeating moder and... that's it?
Some like also using feasts for longer building sessions.
heq
Feasts start falling off after bonemass imo
the serpent feast is good going into mountains
Well that one is the exception
Since its harder to get but more powerful than others
what about um.
the mountains feast after moder?
Id say its decent. Middle of the pack plains food with cheaper cost and double duration
and sailor's bounty remains in that position as well into plains?
since it's basically the same thing
Weird...I was having a hard time logging in to my server.
Hard to get but yes
I’m assuming I can’t join a server that has mods if I’m on Xbox right
Probably not but moght depend on the mods
What graphic settings do you guys use for balance good graphics and good fps?
any serverside mods that dont require clientside should work (serverside qol for example). anything that is both client and server will not work
is there a fix for the bug where you crouch everytime you exit a menu in game like a container or your inventory? saw people mentioning it online but didn't see a fix
maybe i'm holding ctrl too long to quick transfer items actually lol but it's weird bc there are other people saying the same thing
actually I'm pretty sure we were all holding ctrl too long lmao
is there anyway to plant a tree on a roof like a large tree
Only by raising terrain up to the roof. Perhaps you could hide the pillar of terrain by building some wood or stone structure around it and incorporating it as a structural support pillar?
yes this could work for the idea that i had i wanted to do something like tree on the top of gondor
Keep in mind terrain can only be raised 8 meters from it's original level. So if your roof is tall it could be tough to do
right i haven't built anything yet im building on top of a mountain so that means i would have to just build the tree closer to the point of the mountain
Heyy, is the mistlands still the earliest biome we get magic?
damn
they prob not changing that
is there any magic that heals others?
Is there a limit on how many pins one can drop? I've got... a few.
pins?
chat how do i find tin it says it spawns in the dark forest but i can not find it
By water in bf
thank you
Any tips for dealing with Yagluth?
I've been fighting the same MF for seven real hours.
Between the infinite mob spawns and my resistances just not seeming to matter, how do I actually hurt this HP sponge?
Get either silver sword, Forstner or black metal sword. Get barley wine for fire resist and just go whack at him 😄
Fully maxed silver sword and in easy mode.
Half the time he just seems to out heal the damage I did.
He also figured out how to hit me through his pedastal
I feel like I'm fighting prime Mike Tyson rn 😭
If thats the case then you are a bit too passive in the fight, try to get to how behind and hit him there. If you do it right then je will be trying to rotate towards you and not actually attack, Its quite common tactic if you don't want to fight him normally And want easier time 😄
Did he get buffed?
Last time I fought him (two years ago) I climbed his back and just kept reapplying the frostner until he kinda stopped.
This time I feel like yaggyboy figured out Kaioken
I think Yagluth remains unchanged.
Oofta.
Guess I better just grab the frostner again
Hope my old character has it 🙃
Use barley wine and frostner maxed out and itis relatively easy. He doesnt spawn units, so be sure to have cleared all camps and tar pits in the region.
Yeah figured out where the fulings keep coming from. There's an entire camp on the other side of a hill from us, once the fight begins they run over.
Rn I'm restocking all my potions and food before trynna get that frostner.
If you stand right in front of his face the meteors can't really hit you and you can wack through that phase.
Rolling through the beam works as well.
I had that as well lol, together with a tar pits. Both if which i didnt find in my recon. I started the fight and boom here they came lol
When it comes to the beam, I've found jumping over it and slow walking away throws his aim off a lot do his own meteors hit him?
For me it's the darn skeeters. Genuinely the worst part of the game imho.
Half the time they kill me I didn't even know they were there, just suddenly I'm back in bed, naked, enjoying my sucking chest wound lmao
Last time I tried, his head blocked the meteors. Didn't pay close enough attention if they did any DMG to him though.
They pass through anything they can't damage (yagluth and enemies)
Then it just looked like it. It felt like a safe zone.
There are more ways for avoiding them. Root Harnesk reduces their damage significantly due to the pierce resistance, or if you have found Bog Witch she sells ingredient for consumable that prevents them stinging you.
Although, they have very low hp so any hit could easily kill them.
Has anybody tried leading one boss fight into another? Is that even a possibility
they won't fight each other, bosses are friendly to all enemies
this means a fuling shaman can shield any boss
Like I needed more reasons to clobber them lmao
I've had them shield mosquitoes before that was fun
This advice gets floated around a lot, but have you tried using root harnesk? (Swamp root armor chest piece)
It's my main armor piece, specifically because of the bugs.
That or just leather pants for the raw speed
how does sweet bread compare to the simultaneously available feasts?
you could check wiki. But it's slightly weaker than mountain and ocean feasts ,43 vs 45, and of course degrades quicker
it has 4 regen instead of 3
oh yeah, regen is the only positive IMO
and stack size/carryability
yeah, but that's only for really long trips. Feasts will last whole ingame day before they start getting significantly weaker
how do i make sausages again? its been a while and im at swamps now, i have thistle entrails and boar meat but the recipe wont show up
you need the cauldron improvement, you probably don't have turnips
you could also use silver if you have an especially tall mountain cold resist and stagbreaker
but you'll eventually need turnips anyway
What do I do about these pits of death from mining copper? https://discordapp.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202267437647527977/1501214675684163614
try to get a troll in there
It's funny you say that, at the top there is a troll cave. Opens straight into the pit.
You could level out the edges a bit and use grass function on the hoe to make it look more natural. I have done that a few times
i've forgotten how many pieces of copper make an outpost
10 for forge cooler, 6 for forge, 4 for mead ketill.. i feel like i've forgotten something
fermenters.
oh, to bring with? gotcha.
yeah it can't go through portals
haven't got there yet
still at mountains
mountain? ok that should be it. You'll need 5 more for the caudron upgrade when you get to plains.
Obliterator, if you want one.
too expensive skip for now
I just read online there are iron veins in the swamp. Are these worth it if I have wishbone? Or should I keep hunting for crypts
Just keep it up with crypts 🙂
Calling them "iron veins" is a bit generous anyway. It's just the occasional scrap pile, like those in crypts.
Yep, they just have a bit different drop rate for stuff 😄
Not worth but fun
One of the few cheeses im ok with because its so dangerous pre swamp tier
And u get like just enough for one thing
@iron delta #screenshots message #mods-issues 😄
@stoic trench since we haven't started dm-ing yet:
do you ever stop eating 2 feasts? i've heard feasts get worse the later into the game you progress
great in swamp, okay in mountains/plains, not sure about mist/ashlands but it's not looking up
Everyone eats differently and likes different combinations. Don't try to find the perfect recipe or follow what other user's do. Just do your own thing! You'll find a good combo you enjoy
Feasts are usually worse than the top tier options of the biome they are in
the only really good feasts are Mistlands and Ashalnds because they offer a decent amount of stamina, magic and food
Yeah youve been asking about food combos for over a day lol. Look through the options in game, on the wiki or on scarlets crafting sheet.
i guess i'll stop 👉 👈 toomuchdogg if you're reading this would you dm me
what is scarlers crafting sheet
People are gonna have different options, just see what works best for you
Look into pinned messages in valheim-chat channel 🙂
Its in scarlets megapost in the pins there
i um.
i actually wouldnt have to ask as much if scarlet laid out lousy options that weren't worth pursuing just so i could know ×w×
dumb question but i just started this game maybe a couple hours ago when should i fight the first boss?
Honestly kinda whenever, have meat and honey and a flint knife and leather gear, no problem at all
Whenever you like pretty much 😄
If you have a weapon, shield, + maybe bow and arrows and some food you are good to go
just make sure to do it eating good food and rested and use flint knife or flint axe maybe a shield
Or never lol
For the first time I'd go for some higher gear than just minimum, because it is the first harder fight and you are still learning the dodge rolls and such.
I usually do it with a bow and fire arrows. Takes longer but is the safest bet
Just make sure your bed is a bit away from the altar 😉 If you die you don't want to have to deal with that loop. Couple hundred meters at least, outside the range.
When u make tier 1 armor and weapon from a biome (deer and flint for you) and have the biomes food u can progess at your leisure pretty much
i was able to do it just now thank you all!!!
While that is true, a bit extra preparation makes it way easier.
Like going for lvl 2 or maybe even 3 if you can swing it.
The antler you received allows you to make a tool that can be used to extract resources from the next biome. Definitely explore and have fun and keep an eye out for the bird
Basically though the next biome is ||dark forest|| if you get to a ||swamp|| or any other that isn't ||dark forest|| or meadows you are in for a hard time.
You can now craft a tool that will help in the next biome and you will get new recipes to build and cook when you explore and grab the stuff from the next biome.
are crossbows worth it or should i just upgrade to the spinesnap? My bow skill is level 30 and idk how good crossbows are at low level
They reload slow, but crossbows have no falloff at range making it easy to snipe stuff
Crossbows are slow but shoot straight and pack some damage.
Bows shoot in a curve and need to be charged but are still faster than crossbow, both are good but depends on your playstyle.
If you want to stay ranged I find bows better but if you like to get some damage in and move closer for melee crossbows are good.
i see
Crossbows are a good secondary. Bows are a good primary
Also leveling up crossbow skill is stupid and takes forever
Good thing it's not crucial 👀
Think of Crossbows like a powerful sniper, bows more like a faster infantry rifle, for comparison to other games. They both have their places, but if you use them wrong you're in for a bad time.
And like other games, no scoping at point blank with a sniper is still pretty good
Bow exists to solo queen by being a coward and running away
Bonus points for doing a 360 first
Can Fish respawn?!
Yes, I usually mark where schools of fish are spawned near my base to quickly check them.
Fish are like all other creatures in the game, IIRC. They have rules that govern where they can spawn, and the same areas can often spawn more, but it's not like they have specific spawn points.
In my experience they do spawn in the exact same places.
When traveling I will see a cluster of fish on a single point, and they will begin to swim away from that point only after being rendered.
Except I know that fish are IMMORTAL, the only way to get rid of them is the obliterator or the dreaded preparation table 😉
I love throwing fish into my hot tub.
I've always wanted a water moat with level 5 pufferfish infesting it. 😅
Challenge accepted
should i get root armor or stay with my bear armor
Root is a bit higher armour rating, resistance to pierce from chest and some poison resistance from helmet, bear has a + slash damage or something so bear is more offensive and root more defensive, root also has + bow skill so if archer there is no reason not to swap to root, and also looking like an Ent is awesome 🙂
i see
I sometimes play naked until I aquire root set haha
do use bear and troll on occasion too though depends what I encounter
oh
though the extra stamina regeneration of the berserk buff is really powerful
i say if youre afraid of getting poisoned or shot, take the root armor but if you are on a side quest take the bear armor
There is poison resistance mead too, which provides very resistant modifier and is better than the resistant modifier from root mask.
but is it worth the neck tail
lets be real who pops a potion every time they see a blob in the swamps
I don’t use the elemental resistance potions
the thing what makes the mask a lot better is the fact that the effect is permanent as long as you have it on
I personally usually use poison res mead only in boss fights, Bear armor stays until Fenris armor.
IMO the mask is pretty bad comparatively. Poison resist positions are so cheap, have a stronger effect, and don’t require you to sacrifice your helmet slot
But it’s very preference based. Some people value the inventory slot / potions resources, and not needing to micromanage potions
thats true
im in the deep end of hating micromanaging stuff like food and potions lol
rather just eat honey, bear meat and deer meat and go
I’m in the deep end of maximizing potential
Though it is a bit limiting/boring for me just clicking a potion rather than making intentional armor choices, which is why Ive stopped using the potions
but im trying to learn to make food because this playstile is a bit harder
uhh so when i was creating my newest world i removed the seed, i was wondering if its still possible to see what seed i was given because this map is lowkey fire
Are you on steam?
Then press F5 (if nothing happens go to settings and select "enable console") and type printseeds
ohhh thanks
what about making copies of a world is that possible?
as a back up i guess
yeah answered my own question
You just need to copy the .db and .fwl files 😄
right thanks
asking about backups, when a friend sent me his .db and .fwl files, and I copypasted them into the worlds folder, that world didn't show up right away in the world list. The save did show up in Manage Saves however, and I had to select it and clicked "Restore backup"
Is that how it normally works? I feel like I we might have done something wrong. I mean it did work out in the end but I panicked a little when I didn't see the save after copypasting
Might be better to paste it to worlds_local folder, but honestly have no idea
the impression i got from this server was that there are ||drake|| raids, but i never read about them in the wiki. did i fool myself?
It's ||true||.
dam
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Events You can look here, tho there are even later raids listed, so carefull spoilers
It's boss army raid, so beating mountain boss will disable it for good.
"a cold wind blows from the north" yes i remember now
Not fun. I lost a lot of wolves to that one. And the something stirs in the cauldron or sum
Does bow level/damage increase the elemental damage of arrows (fire/spirit etc) or only the pierce damage
It might increase just the bows dmg, not arrows
Bows have their own damage separate from the arrows. They're added together when you hit.
I was going to say if I only care about the spirit damage part of my arrows should I go back to using a Finewood bow for the lower stamina cost, but then I remembered Spinesnap adds spirit damage as well
Yes it does.
how far does finewood bow go?
Isn't it an early game one?
finewood has same max velocity (=range) as huntsman bow. The next three are higher.
However the difference is pretty low.
The huntsman has better accuracy than finewood and makes less noise than other bows tho 😄 which is quite nice, but not necessary ofc
In 1600 hours I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I felt like bow noise was an important factor
and honestly, range is not an issue if you learn how to use a mortar. I've taken out targets at the render limit just because I know how high to aim.
hmm i wonder if im looking from the correct place because the latest .db and .fwl files were last edited in 2022. where else could they be stored than in C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds ?
do you see worlds_local folder?
found it thanks
I ran printseeds, and console gave me world seed: 0/
ive got no seed lol
Hello guys
Is there any guide for chosing right armor and weapon set for biome ?
I really want to test some light builds since i find the speed and movement really in my playstyle
if you're looking for a guide like this you should probably check YT
there are no guides like that here because ultimately it's all up to personal preference
Do you have any recomandation ?
how does one get that odin dlc stuff? theres nothing on the steam page
i've never looked for any so i wouldnt know
but as general rules, full troll is decent for early sneaking and bear with bronze helm gives higher armor with no movement penalty
i don't think crafting heavy armor is possible before black forest and i don't know if there's a strictly light armor during swamp
Only early supporters have had chance for that, meaning people who contributed in Alpha/Beta version of Valheim.
sigh
There are following armor sets: ||Troll||/||Bear|| armor in black forest, ||Root|| in swamps (has -2% ms penalty on chest and legs tho), ||Fenris|| in Mountains, ||Vilebone|| in Plains, ||Ask set|| in Ashlands.
With light armor do i need to pair specific weapons?
ive seen something with Fenris in mountains with the fenris claw
OR weapon pairing doesnt matter
You can really use any weapons you want, there are no requirements.
Probably the best is to go for whatever you feel comfortable with. If you liked the sword and shield combo in the Bronze Age, continue with that in the swamp and mountain as skill and muscle memory is important.
Some armor sets might grant extra skill points for specific skills (like Fenris and ||Root||), or damage modifier for certain damage type (like ||Bear||, ||Vilebone|| and ||Ask||).
But I love the fist weapons paired with a mace and a spear. Spears are usually really cheap to make and do good damage.
you can also wear any helmet you want with 0 movement penalty ❤️🩹
even if the other setpieces are heavy
Was using the spear this run , really funny tho
Helmet fun here
will def put it ahah
bronze helm my shiny beloved
do be aware that sometimes a full set will grant you a bonus you won't get wearing a somewhat heavy helmet
Nowadays I use ||Vilebone|| chest and legs paired with Carapace helmet when venturing to Ashlands after Mistlands.
Does bears spawn in black forest even if you cut down all the trees?
Gathering materials and terraforming won't affect to random spawns.
Okay thanks. Just want to make it easier to spot them
random question, is there any way to become a shapeshifting fenring?
how to get ectoplasm faster than visiting burial chambers with (ghost skeletons?)
Really no other way aside from getting the “a chill down your spine” raid to happen which is random
do all dungeons have some kinda signs to spot them as I run around?
I have only visited swamp crypts and ashlands forts unfortunately, and the green flames/beams were nice
I remember I struggled to find a burial chamber? I wasted a full game day in a dark forest near base and gave up finding it
They have that blue mist near them, but nothing that's easy to spot from further away sadly
The easiest way to find the burial chambers 'blindly' is just walking around until two or three skeletons jump out of the bushes. That lets you know one is nearby. :p
oh I think I found one like that
but it was just blue mist and skeletons around some sort of stone house and there is no prompt to enter it or anything? I walked around it and walked through it multiple times, it was just empty
Theyre also around stone buildings that arent dungeons. If those stone buildings arent there there should be a dungeon
wow I found a fake one
heart broken
you can also not talk to hugin when he shows up nearby
this makes him keep showing up at new ones
if you want to reset your hugin tips you can do so in your settings
To add on to Elite's comment, pump raid rate up to max and sit in your base until that raid happens
Why are your armor sets redacted?
Spoilers
I put spoiler tags just in case. Tap them and they open.
Ok.
guys where can i find valheim mods
Heyy, is there a way to rename a world save please?
You have to change all the names in the save files for that world, never done it, but from what I've seen others say in here it should be possible
You CAN change the name, but it will still show up with both the old and new name.
You need to rename YOURWORLD.db and YOURWORLD.fwl.
There was a website you could upload them to rename, but it stopped working with newer versions of valheim
does this mistwalker actually make you see more in the mistlands? Or is it useless?
it clears some mist but not as much as a proper wisplight
cool to have
you can usually run through mist without any wisplight just by zooming in your camera tho
By itself it pushes back the mist a little
Yep, 5 meter radius of clearing compared to wisplights 10m 🙂
is it ever raining in the middle of the ocean but not on land
the false stops and starts to the raining seems too inconsistent to be random
I mean, if you have a storm, it rains pretty hard when sailing on the ocean.
And the rain is not random, afaik.
Each biome has their own weather i believe, so yes. You can avoid fog by sailing to a coast sometimes too this way
So I'm kinda new and i found all 3 merchants. is there anything i should buy? i bought the fishing pole and the weight belt but that's it so far. i was thinking about the basic clothes for farming and stuff but idk
i beat bonemass btw
Buy almost everything at least once, some items may unlock new recipes later.
Little correction, almost anything from others except Hildir, she sells mostly clothes.
They also unlock more as you beat bosses
Hildir gives quests with minibosses to unlock more stuff for her
Hildir isnt very useful imo except for the farming stuff
And i guess building/landscaping
You should def buy ymir flesh from haldor
Stuff from Bog Witch is definitely very useful. You might like to buy lots of cured squirrel hamstrings.
Most useful trader item is the spices from the bog witch and haldors belt, at least ino
But some of the bog witch potions are strong, like the ratatosk as stated above (squirrel hamstring)
Also, fishing in this game is kinda unimportant. Best thing fish are used for is sailors bounty imo
You can get away without ever fishing. It is an easy way to get ok ish stam food in bf tho
Also technically fishing in plains is good for the fish and bread, but that is painful
There is one strong stamina food later, which requires certain fish. Some other fish also are required for meads/potions.
That's pretty useful one tho. Not needed true, but very nice to have. And it's not too bad fishing trollfish for them.
Can also find fishing rods in frost caves rarely
the moder I was going for is completely surrounded by mistlands, any ideas on how to get past it without dying? I don't want to spend hours trying to find another moder
Surrounded fully? Is there any mistless areas?
not a single meter, I was fucking pissed
Being very quick about it then. Eikthyr power helps with running and jumping. Ratatosk for extra speed.
but I can't see shit, I'm going to get stuck
You can, when you zoom in your view as close as possible and keep moving fast.
Eh u can see enough just put on fenris use eik and rat and nothing will touch u
Better find another moder spawn
anyone got a link to the parry spreadsheet
check the first pin in #valheim-chat
from before all the other pin
thanks
use your hammer and a building piece that has a direction to it, use that to hold your direction at least, just keep going uphill-ish til you hit mountains. bonus points if you can drop a portal in case of ambush. sometimes you get dead on your boat before you can even get ashore 😭 though….
Hello everyone!
I was wo dering if anyone had advice for setting up a modded server on linux
I've run a few servers on windows before. Am I still able to use the Valheim Dedicated Server option from steam?
Probably best to ask in #dedicated-server or #mods-discussion .
thank you!
test
passed
any tips for putting gates in my terain wall? can't seem to make them fit cleanly
Heyy, so my in-game tag is capitalised every other letter. What might be causing this?
Hi i need somehelp in mods
Can help you in #mods-discussion
@vale spade
Thanks
Hi guys, im having a problem where whenever i login in a hosted server i get in without any problem but instantly after the access the missing connection icon starts to blink and i get disconnected after like 1 minute, what could it be? I dont have any internet issues, and my friends have no problem in the same server
Usually as result of playing over VPN. Do you have any installed (or the host of the world for that matter)
If you are all on Steam, easiest solution would be for the host to disable crossplay option before starting their world as a server
none of us had VPN, im on xbox app and he's on steam, might be just a moment issue? Had it all night but i never had problems
Then you do need crossplay to be enabled.
Would be a good idea that you both double check that you don't have something like this in your network adapters list.
(start - type and open device manager - expand the list of network adapters)

Hey does anyone know a good server to join for resources for my main world?
make a farming world?
Thanks in advance. I was hoping to join one that was partly set up with portals to bioms alread built to save time?
If that exists?
people probably dont want others to join their worlds just to take resources and peace out
Thats fair but I know there are places like that but i can't find one. Something like Jotune world possibly?
Im not trying to ruin anyone's world
My friend owns our world and I was hoping to find a quick farm world to play in while he's gone since I can't access my main world
you can check out #1024264966712340510
If it comes down to it ill make my own but was hoping to save time but ok thank you for the help
Hello i have a question, Are two-handed swords good?
yes
flatten the ground where the gates are
is it possible to create land bridges across oceans?
have you considered swimming betwixt rafts?
depends if the ground underwater is close enough for you to build a support
you can raise underwater ground with a hoe and stone in your inventory
tips on gathering lots of blueberries for black forest ||feast||?
one big tip is pin every cluster of them onto your map so you can do a blueberry run easily when they respawn whenever
or get the mod planteverything so you can plant blueberry bushes at base 😎
river? maybe... oceans? hell no
Not really unless you use commands to give yourself anchor points as you go further into the ocean
maybe if u allow flying (cheating) and build with iron poles.. but honestly idk how ocean is really deep
i managed to connect two landmasses, but there was a rock in the water in the middle
Someone on youtube actually tried building a land bridge from the Ashlands to the next nearest continent. He got shockingly far out, but the center of the oceans between continents is just too deep to build on.
That's terrifying, you could leak the scourge of Ashlands into the rest of Valheim. 😨
this is the location of the bridge i made, going top left tip through the island and hitting the tip across
That distance actually looks doable. You already made it?
oh i made it 5 years ago, i raised ground, its entirely made out of stone and there's room enough for a longship to sail unde it
Oh my gosh that's amazing. Can we see photos of it? I've been trying to find a good bridge design that's still big enough to sail under.
you can see my character in the second image in the middle for scale
What did you snap the first layer of angled beams to in the lighthouse thing?
i think i started on top and built it down
there's an iron beam going up the center
Ty
I cant find the words to describe how much I love that build.
check out the second level storage in the big building #building-screenshots message
Man Im loving all your stuff.
i do tours of my settlement, its much bigger than this lol
Hi, i'm trying to catch all fishes but i'm struggling with the magmafish, does it only spawn at the shores of ashland or i can fish it where the ashlands water begins?
U can fish it on the border of the red n blue water. First one i got was one that jumped out of water there. Some blue water is in ash biome sometimes, sail the border. You can also find them close to shore but fishing there is more perilous
Thanks u ^^ yea i was trying to fish them o nthe shore but the archers weren't too happy about it :x
will activating eikthyr's power account for Fins of Destiny's whole adrenaline cost?
Forsaken activation grants 10 adrenaline
✊
yes.
hi guys my builds go green to red* instantly im currently bui, lding a second floor for my house does anyone have an idea what am i doing wrong
Builds can only be built so high - especially with wooden structure pieces.
If you're going high you'll need either core wood or iron beams to support the structure from the ground
omgggg
was that the reasonn i was using normal wood
soo i cant support that 2nd floor unless i use those woods u mentioned
It's fine to use wood but you'll need to throw in some stronger foundation pieces here and there
tysm bro <3
moved to #valheim-chat
As in you moved it? if so, why?
it wasn't help relevant, this isn't the place for a livejournal
A, It was help related... they needed help with completing a roof on a build
B, moving chat is not your call to make when I'm helping them
no.... this was related to this post #valheim-chat message
i'd originally posted that here
happily #u#
more relevantly
how many stamina foods should i pair with fins of destiny?
Depends on what you’re trying to do. Usually I use 0.5 stamina foods, with or without fins
i'm trying to cross a river ocean lake
If you wanna swim far they benefit more from activating eikthyr or downing a swim potion to make stamina usage zero, rather than upping your stamina
If you end up running out of stamina mid swim you could also drink a stamina potion
hello i defeated the yagluth boss but didn't get a torn spirit is there a reason for this?
I have posted here before and had no response. For some reason, my game won’t transfer to my new computer. It’s downloaded oh my guys are there, but my world is gone. The map is 0% searched, even though it shows the same world name. Can anyone help me here? I don’t know where else to go for help. This is labeled help.
Ok,
- Is your save game LOCAL or CLOUD?
- If it is CLOUD, you need to transfer it to LOCAL.
- Once it is local, you need to transfer the correct folders to your new computer.
- On Windows (assumed) it is usually at: C:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\LocalLow\CoffeeStain\IronGate\Valheim (if I remember correctly).
Just move the entire CoffeeStain folder over to the exact same location on your new computer.
Could be without the CoffeeStain and just IronGate. (I'm on a Mac, and I'm writing this from memory).
There is a known bug that if you kill Yagluth on the altar, the dropped torn spirits might end up below his altar. The only solution is currently to spawn the torn spirits in via devcommands. My apologies.
I remember using the atgeir spin to harvest crops back in the day, but I've heard now there's a scythe for that. Is the scythe better than the atgeir for harvesting crops?
I'm old fashioned. I just pick them one by one. 😄
that's awful
I think the scythe might use less stamina. And no. Why is it awful?
slow and tedious
but there's ways to make it slightly faster
I actually don't want that. 😄
I do, for some things
But yeah, I'd just give it a try with the scythe.
farming is one of them
I like to build, cultivate my crops, harvest, forage, you know... living the life. 😉
well even stardew valley, which is focused on that, had a tool to improve harvesting after popular demand
And now you have one too in Valheim. 🙂
yes, I'd like to know if its better than the atgeir before making one
scythe also improves with farming skill, less stamina bigger area and levels farming, no more atgier
Like I said, less stamina.
Didn't remember the bigger area.
I never used atgeir for that, didn't want to accidentally ruin my harvest.
I just used the scythe, it uses like 5-6 stamina. Very low.
Scythe also enables you to get the extra drops from farming skill, atgeirs dont
the real strat is fireball staff
I love picking, can't stand the scythe 😂
😄
Wait, BIGGER AREA? this may change my gameplay
R u talking about the huts? I havent played in a while but I dont remember a harvesting tool other than the little guys
probably the ||iridium|| scythe
the scythe that you get in a cave. It was added in 1.4
damn I recall the wrong material
I trusted u and deleted gold 😂
oh I just checked wiki, there are both the golden and iridium version
I couldn't recall which one is obtained when so well anymore, it has been too long
P sure the gold is from the cave, flint makes u iridium
gold is from the cave yeah, but iridium is from farming mastery apparently. Wiki told me that but I don't really remember much that I did
I think I have gotten them at some point, but again, I haven't touched stardew for a while
Question
Answer
I placed a campfire in my house on the 2nd story and it keeps going on and off and we dont know why
Also happend in other builds
Smoked out or not roofed
Does it have enough clearence for the smoke above it?
Thanks for the help :)
yup, the higher your farm skill the bigger the scythe aoe its very noticeable
Tyvm
is there silver in ice caves? I'm in one right now and am wondering if i can put my belt back on or if i need the wishbone
Nope. Use the be.t
*belt
belt?
purchased from one friendly dwarf, it increases your carry weight by 150
Why did my pig ran off from me?!
2* boar, tamed just sprinted off into wilderness
i havent tried to tame anything yet, did he come back? ;-;
Doesn't look like it, luckly i just found out he at least made a 2* Baby who seems to be chill and eats peacefully
But i still dont get it why it sprinted off
Ruffus, why? q.q
He must've had important things to attend to lol
did you go for pens or a big hole?
glad he left some kin behind tho haha
he went to place where i found him
i dragged him for good few minutes agroed when he was still untamed, figured he tries to go back to his spawn point but why? he got tamed and all
I think the wiki mentioned this somewhere
about boars spawning from specific set pieces would try to come back there no matter what, and you are better off getting an offspring and then go from there
or something like that
bug or feature?
no idea
Well at least he left his kid-
OMG HE WENT OUT FOR MILK
lmao
Yes, when taken too far from spawn point they spend their life trying to get back.
Once you make some little piggies and are happy with their star rating I recommend killing the originals and going with the babies whom now have a spawn point presumably where you wanted them and will now stay.
I’ve watched both boars and wolves cross oceans just to get back home.
Damn..
Yeeep required two players, a boat and a harpoon to get them back again until we trapped them in properly haha
do higher tiered pickaxes help with terraforming? or is it just better durability and more damage to ore/rocks? just thinking of sticking with antler so i dont have to move my forge
ur correct its damage and durability terraforming is normal
gotcha, tysm
Any reason for a tree to be launched at me horizontally doing over 45 damage and instantly killing me? What's causing it to launch sideways instead of just falling over like all the others?
Yeah, that's so unbelievably stupid. I'm done with this game at least until 1.0. I don't know why a tree can't just fall over instead of staying upright and being launched at me with enough force to do over 45 damage in one hit... genuinely a waste of my time.
Trees are kind of weightless but are still influenced by gravity if that makes sense, so even the chonkiest tree (oak) you can still push it with ease, yes even a greyling can push it if they want to.
in your case yours probably just got caught on a another tree's branch and the gravity just said "screw you" and decided to speed up lol, the faster the log falls = more damage
Plus it sounds like you're still early game, trees wont be much of a probably once you eat some food preferably health rich food
also trees are unpredictable with their falling
unless you push em yourself
Taking over 45 damage from a tree getting launched sideways is absurd. I simply shouldn't have to prepare like I'm about to fight a boss to go cut some trees, it's unreasonable... I'm fine with moving out of the way but not when after the final chop I get killed instantly because the tree is launched sideways.
sounds like a case of the tree clipping into another and glitching out which causes it to speed up instantly killing you
Your not alone with the tree shenanigans, we've all been there
It's become the norm for valheim players lol
that you'll eventually die to a tree either in a dumb way or by other means
You'll get used to it
plus you're still early game, theres more "bs" later compared to just a giant stick on the ground
I have never died to a tree. It is NOT nromal for a tree to get launched
Something as basic as gathering wood shouldn't be.
I get it yes, but later on you'll have enough health/armor where you can just tank the tree or even just take like 1 point of dmg
Its an annoyance for sure but you gotta get used to it
besides tree physics has one advantage and is that it makes farming for wood easier
a domino effect you should say
tree clipping at its finest
Whoa you haven’t Valheimed until you v tree and lost
the tree is the final forsaken
though i have cut wood in valheim for literally many hundreds of hours total and that hasnt happened to me
trees falling onto me killing me, sure, probably over a thousand times, but not that
I wouldn't be annoyed if it was just me not moving out of the way in time or from another tree falling on me afterwards. That is completely different to a tree coming at me still completely vertical, at such speed it's within the same half second as me making the final cut... it's absurd.
hi if i want to play new world with old character, is it possible to forget recipes? and play it such as new character too?
Iirc there is a command for this, let me check
Resetknownitems maybe.
Yep 😄 exactly that ^ @timid narwhal
thanks i can enjoy it again 😄
It seems not need to use console, typing /resetknownitems on chat box should work.
i have console so it is working
Yeah, but FYI.
im not sure you will enjoy later game if im being honest. wait til you sail too close to a plains and get instakilled by a mosquito you never saw coming type stuff
No, I have played the game a lot but I recently picked the game back up and dying to buggy trees repeatedly, it is extremely off putting. I've had trees fall on me, stagger me, whatever. But over 45 damage in one go, that was completely unavoidable, it's annoying several deaths later.
thats actually kind of strange. never happened to me nor have i heard of anyone else getting that
unless its just so common that no ones mentioned it to me lol
repeatedly this happens?? that is extremely rare to take so much damage instantly after cutting a tree, sometimes they hit other trees and knock them down and act crazy vis seesaw physics but it shouldnt be that big an issue.
do you have tree mods or something?
Maybe he was just in low health from the beginning
But indeed
45 damages is too much for a tree, I never got more than 4 damages with falling trees
I don't play with mods. It's not happened repeatedly, however I have taken absurd amounts of damage from trees. I'm usually fine with it because it usually doesn't kill me.
Yeah, like I've had 20 maybe 40 at the very high end from a tree, but a tree hitting me so soon after the final cut and doing 45 damage is ridiculous.
i mean the reason i consistently survive trees is i always run away
and you don't max out at 45 hp very long it makes sense to dye to silly stuff like that in the early game
Without visual proof I would have to assume this is an exaggeration or a misunderstanding of the physics at play that lead to the tree swinging toward you. I've culled entire islands of their trees and have 1500 hours in Valheim, and haven't once encountered what you describe. 👀
Shakes fist at physics
I wish I was playing it on xbox at the time so I could capture it, like the last 30 seconds or something. I don't know how to go about setting something like that on pc and I can't be bothered to either.
I don't know how I could exaggerate a tree killing me within the same second as my final axe swing doing over 45hp of damage as it got launched towards me. It's what happened. I'm not saying it launched me across the map or something. Believe it, or not.
gravity being gravity in valheim
most of us died to it at least once... or twice
I understand, I already stated I don't believe it. 😅
does crystal heart and bonemass effects stack?
so if you have 2 slightly resistants do you get resistant?
the most powerful resistance is used. this means resistances can override weaknesses but they don't stack with other resistances
serpent shield pierce resist can stack with other pierce resistance because blocking resistances are applied earlier
This has happened to me as well. My guess is that it was some weird collision interaction with nearby trees/rocks, maybe coupled with the fact that I was playing on a server so network interference might have played a role too
But it's rare for me, it happened 2 times in total
actually better question
was it 5 gigs of my friend's wireless hotspot data that valheim used?
or was it perhaps an updating steam game?
i have several heavy steam games
Question.. is it worth it to craft and use big weapons (2 handed Axe, 2 handed Sword, Himinaffel etc?) I kinda wanna play a warrior/tank build but are those weaons even viable? Or is a Shield and sword always better ? What advantages do they have?
Atgeirs are great for crowd control, since the secondary attack has 6x stagger, and hits in full circle around you with good reach. 2H swords have powerful single-target secondary that is also good for staggering, and great followup. I never really got used to 2H axes though....
in general, they're more active weapons, rather than reactive shield gameplay where you usually parry first and then attack
Ok and what food armor etc would ubsuggest if i wanna play like this ?
HHS, HSS or HFS, usually light armor since you need to dodge with them
So no heavy armor ?
it's not ideal IMO, since you won't parry much
having the movement speed for easier positioning and dodging is more valuable I think
I mean its not liek the game gives u a lot of choices
Like how many ,,light,, armors are there ? 2 ? The troll and the root armor
Heavy armor isn't bad imo, but light armors won't give you a movement penalty
Each biome has light armor except Mistlands.
Quite a few more
light are leather, troll, bear, fenris, vilebone and ask
Black forest got another one.
Bear for example
root is kinda medium armor since it has movement penalties, just not as big
Btw another question
How in Odins name am i supposed to survive the Ashlands. I get wiped even with end level gear
Its not like the mobs are strong but there are millions of them
it's tough, but doable. Make a portal on a pillar close to shore, so you can go back easier when you die
Even if i have destroyed the pillars they just keep spawning
AoE weapons can help when surrounded, or letting bigger enemies hurt each other with their attacks that deal friendly fire.
One defensive hack: ||Root Harnesk helps a lot against large amount of enemies attacks since they deal mostly pierce damage||.
@tired root what's the plains light armor?
vilebone. Gotta venture out at night ot get it though
