Have you tried sailing from your starter continent?

Yes, you have to get materials from mountains to make higher level workbench, but you dont need it really and it is intended to get it AFTER the swamps. What armor, weapons and food do you have?

Technically you can by fishing or luring trolls to break the outside muddy scrap piles, but both of those ways are slow, painfull and inefficient 🙂

You can only lift ground to a certain height from the original level, so as you get to deeper ocean you will not be able to raise ground above water

The idea might work, but you will run into the protected area around the spawn. Meaning you will always have to build around it.

It would be an easier idea to find yourself a nice Meadows or Black Forest island and build that base over there.

Can even build a temporary base and find a nice plains island later for the permanent base.

Workbench upgrades are only needed for equipment upgrades, not building. That being said, one of the workbench upgrades available at Meadows tier is pretty cheap to make.

You can use it for sure

It can work, but the problem are the leeches.

They will "eat through" your boat - aka destroying it - to kill you.
And when you walk through the water, they will attack you; while you will be slowed down or even have to swim.

Which is why I recommend using an entrance from another biome. Doesn't mean you have to do that, but it will be more safe.

Flatten the area around his altar, run behind his back the moment he appears and hit the bottom of his spine. When he starts to turn around, turn with him so you can keep hitting his spine at all times.

Since he can't see you, he won't be able to attack you.

Works well with Frostner or silver / BM sword.

He's an undead. Both those weapons do spirit damage; which works well against undead......

BM sword is good because it has more damage.

I can't tell about how the Iron Sledge, Atgeir, (Battle) Axe or Spear do against him; but I do know that a bow is pretty useless, unless you're able to avoid him to aggro on you and you can shoot at him from a distance. But even then it'll take a long time with frost or silver arrows to kill him.
With that in mind, a spear will most likely be having a similar effect.

yeah, that's how I killed Moder (with poison/needle arrows) but that's because she was refusing to fight me and kept getting stuck on a rock. Same with the Elder. But so far I've exclusively used iron mace/porcupine, silver sword, and whatever axe I have on hand for weaponry, so I think the silver sword should do just fine.

What about food? I was thinking either fish wraps or lox pie, bread, and the mountain feast, plus ratatoskr potion + fire res. Should that work or should I switch any of them for something else? Switch out the feast for eyescream for infinite energy, or prioritise balance/survivability?

Or am I trying to overprep?

If you got any serpent meat, try to get Serpent stew instead.
Combine that with Lox Pie instead of Fish wraps and you got the best possible health.
Mountain feast can work due to it being balanced in HP and Stam. If you want more stamina, however, using the bread as a third one is good enough.

In general going HHS is the best on foods, as it will give you enough stamina to get out of the way.
Also, Bonemass Power. 😉

I dunno about the Ratatoskr potion as I haven't used it - haven't defeated Yag since BW release - but Fire Resis is still a good idea.

More or less, yes.

You got two "kinds" of serpents.

One spawns at night and despawns at day time. So if you run into them you need to kill them asap or the opportunity is gone.

The other one spawns in storms - and often in night storms - and doesn't despawn.
Which means you can mark their location on the map and return once you're better prepared.

Leviathans spawn at fixed spots and disappear the moment you trigger their sinking through mining.

There are two methods to kill serpents.

Both uses the boat, but one is a "gun platform" as you use it to kill the serpent with a bow.
Disadvantages of that:

• You can hit your own boat;
• The scales and trophies can and will sink, making getting them a bit harder.
• You will to let go of the rudder, so the boat will slow down, meaning you have to break off the fight to catch speed again.

The other method is to lure it to land, use the abysmal harpoon to drag the serpent ashore and kill it.
Disadvantage of that:

• the serpent may break off the pursuit, meaning you need to aggro it again before you're close enough to the shore to use the harpoon;
• the harpoon and the dragging drains stamina, meaning using any weapon on the serpent is impossible, until you regained stamina.
  Meaning you will have to drink a stamina potion or a tasty mead to get that stamina pumping.

Disadvantage of both methods, you will most likely run out of your rested bonus by the time you find and try to kill a serpent.

Leviathans do not re-emerge. Once they're gone, they're gone. You won't need many unless you're REALLY unlucky.

Usually mining the barnacles until you got 30 of their drops is enough. If you can get that from a single Leviathan, you're lucky. If you get it from two, you're doing well.

Serpents don't respawn at the same spot, but they can respawn at other spots. So it's always a good idea to keep your eyes peeled when sailing.

It's also a good idea to put the harpoon in your cargo hold when sailing; just in case.

The game is build up in squares.
So some of the squares are meadows, other are ocean.
And some are having two biomes.

So a "full ocean" biome is a map grid that only has the ocean biome and nothing else.
Since it borders another biome, the ones to its side will be "partially ocean", as they have a part ocean and a part of Meadows / Black Forest / Swamp / Plains / Mistlands / Ashlands / Deep North in it.

Can't remember if you need it, but I don't think you do.
You can always save 20 or so flax and plant it again if you do need it.
Same for barely.

I usually keep 15-20 of the plants available for harvesting in case they're needed.
Or in case I need the seeds, as I find the seed plants better looking. 🙂

Yeah, it has good control ability due to the combination of frost effect and knockback, damage wise bit better in Mistlands against most mobs than all phys damage weapons and while not the highest damage dealer after Mistlands it carries you well in Ashlands too.

If not, and you need crossplay cuz someone is on Xbox, MS Store or AppleStore, you will have to do some throuble-shooting. E.g. playing behind VPN for example is not compatible with crossplay in most cases

No, the places will be very even and easy to build in, you just need to bring the hoe and the pickaxe 🙂

I think you can raise the ground by like up to 8m and dig it down by up to 8m from original height something like that to make a completely even area, takes a while but can be done in meadows and black forest and plains quite easily, takes some patience though and some stone to raise the ground (and pickaxe required having killed first boss)

I sometimes just live out of one of the prebuild houses you can find sometimes before I kill first boss.

The more powerful the system, the more crashes you will see, as powerful system have to be properly configured to be stable, more so that weak ones.

Check the most common issues in that guide at least to have an idea of what's happening to players.

my workarounds are stone floors a few high on the part that is not high enough, and also making the other higher parts a bit lower

you can stack like 8 stone floors on top of each other to give some height

what I do in this case is, I lay some stone floors, and also some walls on the side sometimes, make them clip nice together in one corner and work from that, not sure if I got a good pic to show but it can be done, if the wall touches the ground on the side it will be blue (100% stability)

seeker soldiers are always a pain to manage. Try to hit its back, it's his weak point.

I value all info, fandom tables can't be too wide, that's the inherent problem, in particular i was looking for biome, but after checking every column i'm also interested in the recipe, duration, where to cook it (other than the most obvious colums ofc).
Healing per tick is interesting but i could live without it, tho if i get to choose I'll always prefer to have all the info in a table, bonus points if i can look at it completely on my screen. Having to scroll every for every column isn't reasonable imo, which is why i dont want to work with the wiki to begin with.

You can drastically decrease your chance to get overwhelmed during the day and being rested will allow you to fight and recover much more efficiently

Fire arrows work really well against both skellies and greydwarves. And in dire situations keep torch on other hand, regular greydwarves are afraid of fire.

With arrows you also need to account for the drop of the arrows, so don't aim at the target, aim higher

One thing you can do to get the feel of the game:

Turn down the difficulty slider. Or even set it to passive enemies.

The former won't make it easier for you to hit them, but they will be weaker, making it easier for you to remove their hitpoints.
The latter will make them passive, meaning they will only attack you when you attack them.
That way, you can pick one of a group, attack that one, kill it, attack the next and so on.

It's a good way to practice the fighting in this game until you get the hang of it.

Another thing you can do is kite them. Run back to where you got more overview of what's happening around you.
Sure it gives the monsters the chance to get all around you in an easier way, but it will make it easier for you to run away too.

And finally; I'm personally not a fan to fight the monsters while having zoomed out on my character.
I feel that the position where the mouse pointer / crosshair is at and where it looks to be are too far off for me.
So instead I zoom in completely, making it a lot easier to aim with the bow.
So perhaps go to your base, put a 2x2m wall piece up on a pole and us that as target practice to find out which settings you like for your bow?

Depending at the materials you got, put the 26° sloped wall pieces along the side. Both the reverted and the normal one. That way you create a nice railing.

As for the area underneath, you could try to remove some of the pillars, move them under the 2nd to the left staircase and use the area in between the pillars to store something. Can even close the opening with a wooden wall and / or a door to give it the impression of a closet.
Or use a iron door and put Harry Po.... a Greydwarf or Greyling in it.

Once I got the copper I need I simply set the resource modifier back.

flint knife is nice because you can jump quite easily on a deer without being noticed by it and you do 6 times more damage, it's an instant kill. Flint spear and bow are also good to kill them because you have a big range. You can choose whatever you want between these 3 weapons, it depends on your preferences.

hey all im super new to this and also this is my FIRST ever survival game! im in the look out for silver i have the wishbone and ive been to all mountains i can see and not a single bit of silver, once ive checked the whole mountain ill use a free cam fly to double check and still NO silver, any way to kinda guess where mountain bioams would be or just run untill u find one live i have been doing? thankyou!

well, you could just run around and look for one, or throw your world into the map tool to show you all silver nodes (and basically everything else)

The mountains need to have a certain height for them to have silver 🙂 around 120 or 130 meters iirc. You can also use obsidian to roughly judge the height since it has only a few meters lower minimum required height to spawn.

Hey- I'm having an issue with connecting to any server. My wifi is completely fine and I've uninstalled and installed back Valheim multiple times but it always says "failed to connect". This wasn't happening until recently and nothing's changed- I checked also the local files and there aren't any other things installed like mods. I play on Mac, does anybody know a solution?? Would greatly appreciate!

The Valheim Map Generator site does not show where silver nodes are.
So I dunno what you've been using, but afaik that's the only site people use to get locations.

The only way you had them generating slowly was mods.

They have always generated at the same rate and with the same conditions.

So your 100% is misfiring or modded.

In that case you should've been able to find silver.

If it doesn't work in the mountains on your starter's island, look for Hildir and activate her quest.
The Howling Caverns are often found quite high in the mountains - at least, on my maps - which also means you will find silver there.
Combine that with the comment about the Obsidian made earlier and you can't go wrong.

You have sadly hit the teraforming limit, ground can only be terraformed 8m up and 8m down from its original level
