Hi! I'm trying to get a local Valheim Dedicated Server working with R2modman. I know to launch the server through "Start modded" and have added the path --doorstop-enable true --doorstop-target "C:\Users\tiger\AppData\Roaming\r2modmanPlus-local\Valheim\profiles\Default\BepInEx\core\BepInEx.Preloader.dll" to my start_headless_server.BAT file

I get the error that it is "incompatible Version". I can get the mods to work in modded local Valheim, but only experience this issue when launching the dedicated server... is there something I'm missing?

You can reduce it to 1% with world modifiers (at least i believe those should be accessible in some way even on dedicated servers), completely dissabeling it is only possible using devcommands which afaik is impossible on dedicated

Then i am affraid you cannot turn it to 0, the command would be setkey SkillReductionRate 0 but that is under "cheat commands" which admins cannot use, "admin commands" are ban, kick, stuff like that

I have been hunting Valkyries for the last 3 weeks or so. An hourish most every day of the week. I have killed every one that I have encountered and I am only sitting at 40 kills (no trophy yet). I assume Valkyrie spawns are completely random, but just in case that is not true I am wondering if there is a better way to encounter them than roaming the landscape.

They spawn more if you go inland i believe, and quite often at the ruined towns or close fortresses, thats about it tho i believe

No, I rotate through the 5 I have taken over

5% drop is pretty painful. Need 90 kills for a 99% probability of getting one. IIRC stone golems are also 5% and I have only had one drop in all my time in Valheim, so I was prepared for the same with the valkyries

I start mining the copper itself also from the bottom, if you do it properly the last 30-40% or so will pop

Not bad at all. It's how I usually do things. Anything broken can be repaired, nothing in a chest is lost if it's destroyed. You just want to get a workbench back up in the area ASAP after an event like that to make sure things don't despawn.

During a raid, just walk outside your walls. Enemies won't break anything if they don't have to.

Nope. They just drop where the chest was. Similarly, items in a ship's hold will also be stored in floating boxes and not disappear if a ship is destroyed.

however we are able to craft bolts for the crossbow but not the actual weapon, we have tried uninstalling and verifying integrity on the files but this did nothing

So we have restarted and attempt to place in different locations, to include an entire black marble room thinking that was the needed solution.

Alright so I did something stupid. I was going back to my swamp portal to repair pickaxe and didn’t notice a wraith and abomination following me (comp sound was off) now they destroyed the ladder up to the portal, I’m hiding in the sunken crypt under it and there’s like 5 or so draugers out there complicating the situation. I got like 1/6 durability left on my frostner too. Any tips? I’ve never fought a wraith before.

If you really want to play it safe, you could wait until daytime- assuming the wraith was a night spawn.

Wraiths are fast but they always move directly towards you and only have one attack so they are very predictable

Nothing an atgeir or a iron sledge can't fix, but yeah you don't have that with you - have to risk it for the biscuit, if you do do a corpse run if portal still intact will be easier, you could try ninja-rebuilding that ladder to get away too, maybe lure them away with some creative acrobatics?

Not sure what happened but I guess the abomination got bored because I just left my hole and it was gone. Easily took care of the wraith without the additional complication.

Was able to rebuild ladder and will now repair to go find that pesky tree so it’s not an issue later

Were you playing on your server in early Bog Witch patches era?
You probably have a corrupt stack of crafting resources. Replace the stacks involved in crafting that piece of equipment one by one wiht a fresh one. Be careful to not put new items in that suspected corrupt stack of items. Another way to identify if a item stack is corrupt is to throw it on the floor. The corrupt stack will have a number next to them, e.g. a stack of 30 Iron will look like this when you drop it and hover over it via mouse Iron[4] x30

Bucklers have a Parry Bonus when you achieved a "close-call" Parry, and it multiplies the damage you deal later

It reduces poison damage by 75%, and that’s before armor is applied, so you take less than a quarter of the damage than you would without the mead.

Should help a lot. If you are poisoned and take the mead after getting poisoned it won't affect to the current poison.

There is a world modifier to change that but killing serpents allows you to get two very strong health foods

You need an iron cooking station for them though

Swamps has quite a hop in difficulty especially for unprepared players, but with proper preparation and taking it slowly at first you will survive. Learning to parry with your shield and enemies attack patterns help a lot too.

Also avoid going there during night.

Yes and no. With good preparation, the right tools and knowing how to block and dodge roll it is quite doable.
He can also very easily be cheeses.

Iron mace is the best against him, anything blunt will do better than bow and arrows.
Prepare the area around the altar so there isn't much in the way to slow you down.

Finding turnip seeds is quite important as they (turnips) are required for a cauldron upgrade, which unlocks recipes for new foods.

If you find him too hard currently you might want to back off and try later after finding turnip seeds and getting better foods, you might want to search from the areas you've been in case you haven't actually searched any seeds. They look similar to carrot seeds but have yellow flowers.

Okay. So you have 2 valid options:

1. bruteforce the boss now, learn his attacks in the run and overcome, or
2. back off and return later, find seeds for carrots and turnips and farm a bit, takes time but you get better foods.
   Also, if you return later, you could practice dodging and blocking/parrying to survive better against the boss. Bosses don't despawn.

I'd highly suggest the seeds route. Make a bronze cultivator. Food is key to Valheim, you can't get by on just gear. Food is your health and stamina. Even if you defeat Bonemass everything after will be harder until you get better food.

What's technically the better option,

1. Level 3 Black Metal Shield with higher durability, block armor and block force or
2. Level 2 Carapace Buckler with higher parry bonus
   The focus is on parrying, so the buckler sounds better, but not sure how much the lower block armor/force goes into the equation

Are you just trying to join random servers? That typically won't work, you need a password to join any server.

If the focus is parrying, the Carapace Buckler will be superior, and still functional for overall blocking. https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Blocking

You could also make a Carapace Shield, and that's basically just a straight upgrade to the Blackmetal shield. But the buckler is still superior for parrying becauase of the multiplier.

To expound: there are no official Valheim servers, everything is community/individually run. It's fully playable solo and locally, and many (including myself) would argue that starting solo is ideal for learning how the game works before worrying about multiplayer. Or starting with other new players as well all together.

I usually keep a stack of all elemental arrows available, but frost are one of the most valuable. They're great for sea serpents, and also slowing enemies in biomes like the Mistlands. It's definitely utilitarian though.

Yeah, replace them with the 26 degree peak pieces, that's about as close to a flat roof as anything in the game gets. Unless you get into some funky stuff with stone, but that has its own challenges.

You could leave the floor pieces underneath if you wanted to keep the flat ceiling inside, or sandwich them in between to keep the look with just a little bit more thickness.

Thats entirely up to you, my first mini base if usually repurposing one of the abandoned houses and go from there. Lets look at it, looks like ocean access (good), looks like its maybe not in super easy walking distance to black forest (I don't like that, I want some Black Forest nearby to walk to without a portalling needed) and then the rest comes down to how beautiful you find the locations, lots of mushrooms around is also great in the Meadows if you have that. --- Just my 2 cents

Have you made a wisp light?
If so venture out into the mistland and look for dvergr settlements, they have some long box (not the square ones) that you should break, they will attack you if you break them, you can either kill them or find a way to cheese open the boxes or kill the dvergr.
Keep your eyes open for giant skulls, if you find them mine them and what is in it.
Look for the dungeons and build a portal close to it and raid it.
Look for a spot that you can easily defend and that has green grass so you can cultivate shrooms or pick up the shrooms you find along the way.

Find a dungeon (they are sometimes under dwerger building) look for blue light in the fog they have pois at them. Avoid gjnalls the big loud flying things. When you have ten dark cores find some ygfrasil roots and put sap extractors on them. For eitr mine a giant skull with a black metal pickaxe. To make the eitr put sap and soft tissue in the eitr refinery.

you definitely can, though in some situations it may be impossible with the location of the vein and the limit you can dig down into the terrain.

best MO is to dig down around the sides and then under it, cutting into the vein and surrounding rocks as needed, and if it's still floating their midair you'll need to build some steps to reach the lowest part. At some point you'll destroy enough of it that was too close to other "grounded" terrain/rocks that the rest of it will pop.

If you have level 4 troll armor, iron is only offering 2 extra armor for a substantial hit to mobility. Especially in the mountains, that mobility can be big. Although I usually just farm out enough iron to level the iron armor as much as possible.

When you have chosen a building piece with your hammer which you plan to build, you can switch snap points by pressing Q or E. For example, 4m horizontal log can be added underneath those middle supports by choosing top point for snap point without the need to demolish building pieces around.

It looks to me like you might be reaching the height limit of what grounded core wood can go, if a core wood pillar connected to the ground going straight up isn’t strong enough, your next upgrade to structural/height integrity will be iron yes. Well if you have one and you have enough copper / tin to make the bronze, it's always a good idea to upgrade the bronze pickaxe, as it will increase the durability. And thus the time you can use it.

But - and it's debated over and over again here - you may as well skip the bronze pickaxe until you can make the iron one.
Reason: the antler pickaxe can be repaired using a workbench and you can usually craft 3 from a single Eikthyr kill; while for the bronze pickaxe you will need a forge.
However, given the bronze pickaxe does a bit more damage and has more durability, some players say that swapping it for the Eikthyr one once you do have bronze is useful.

There are pros and cons on both using the Eikthyr or the bronze one, so in a way it's also what you think is the best thing to do for yourself.

Then there is not much you can do, dont make large builds so there is not many instances around. And if only for you then always try to be the first when going to any area, that will make you the "chunk master"

hello, in the valheim wiki webpage where it explains skills, it says experience gain of knives is 1.5 per attack so my question is that i should be getting 2.25 per attack if i have rested bonus ryt or does the webpage says it like after rested buff calculated?

Me and my friends have been curious and talking about fall damage being capped at 100. Is there any particular reason for that? I say it's along the lines of a more simple answer like "100 is a good round number" and my friend says it's because "The devs considered what terminal velocity would be in game and capped it that way"

Complete guess, but I would think it was the result of play testing and feedback from the mountains. Why they chose 100 is unknown, but a cap was probably determined to be a need.

Oh yeah the cap is 100% a need, otherwise there's no risk with the mountains, the sealed towers, or even building larger bases, I'm just curious why 100 was the number that was chosen

I think they can, iirc then i have seen a screenshot of it some time ago, but if thats the case they are extremely rare as i have never seen one myself
Edit: Checked and only one type of the ruins can have it, and on top of that its really rare for it to actually appear in that one.

I can only guess but that's probably the amount of damage that corresponds with a high fall being fatal most of the time until you get to the mountains

Has anyone else experienced portals losing connections recently?
I have a portal hub and one portal always loses the connection after 1 or 2 uses and does not reconnect until I rebuild one of the two involved portals

It's possible this is caused by a mod (I'm on xbox, but the portal hub was spawned serverside by a mod)
