Hello! With a friend we created a valheim server to play together. It was my friend who created it and when I connect to it alone without my friend the map is not saved and is reset. How can I fix this problem?
Thx ; )

regal ocean
# steep tusk Because it is accurately stating that neither is better while giving you the res...

That’s fair, I see where you’re coming from. But I literally just started playing and am very ignorant to how the weapons in this game work. I have no idea which ones are best for certain situations and if one is better than the other. I don’t see it as a disservice to provide me with a little bit more information when I’m asking for help. Which you have now done so thank you.

steep tusk
regal ocean
#

So if I wanted to, I could just main the flint spear for the entirety of the game?πŸ˜‚

steep tusk
#

Could, yes.
But there is a spear in almost every biome so it would be recommended you just upgrade to the next tech level of spear as you progress.

#

Spears are my personal favorite weapon at this time.

#

Highest attack speed in the game goes brrrrrrr.

tired root
#

Aren't spears as fast as knives?

#

Or knives slightly faster.

#

But I agree, spears are very good.

nocturne maple
#

Close, but no. Knife has three animations vs spear one animation. Spear is only faster than knife finisher.

tired root
#

Yeah, I had to check that and at least 2 first hits of knife combo are faster than one spear hit.

steep tusk
#

Exactly.
Spears not having an attack chain is what makes them so fast.

tired root
#

Finisher was a bit slower but barely.

steep tusk
#

And the alt fire is technically their finisher if you use the fast attacks to stagger and then just explode them with the throw. 😁

tired root
#

I like usually initiate with spear throw and depending on the target if it gets staggered I run at it, pick my spear and finish it quickly.

steep tusk
#

I usually only throw it at deer πŸ˜„

tired root
#

Yep, I haven't made crude bow since I learned to throw spear.

upgraded iron set not worth making

we have the boar on the boat but his health is too low to harpoon him out again

frosty frost

Oh, just destroy the boat πŸ˜„

gloomy dagger

but then it will fall in the water and we still cant harpoon him ;-;

frosty frost

It should eventually go to land i think, and then you can just build a fence corridor to push him through

tough hare

You could try to build a wooden wall around your ship, before destroying the ship. If you create an opening towards land and set up a fenced off path towards the spot you want it to go, it may head out that way eventually.

gloomy dagger

why cant i hang a stone pillar on a wood-iron beam?

desert monolith
gloomy dagger

that should have tons of support, its wood-iron all the way to ground

There are other ways too - i'll have a video out on it soon with some tricks/tips that I havent seen mentioned before - so maybe soon you'll have some extra ways.

The point is just try and be creative. If you want to skip straight to mistlands for whatever reason - go for it.

#

If you want to kill Queen "glitchless" - you'll need to kill Moder - no way around it due to requirement for black metal to make Gildr table etc

desert monolith

then in that case you dont need anything to kill queen - go to her front door, place a portal looking in, and port yourself inside naked if you want

desert monolith

just 4x surtling cores for the portals.

I think the "chair" trick works too - in which case no cores needed

I would advise not marking everything because then your map is cluttered and it is hard to find things.

#

I only mark berry bushes if they are in clusters of 5 or greater.

#

Lorestones definitely not worth marking.

tired root
#

I mark them simply with a dot mark and use letters like:
M = mushroom
RB = raspberries
BB = blueberries
CB = cloudberries
*TH = thistle (not necessary in every place, but one area for example)

regal ocean

Do berries regrow?

steep tusk

I only mark mushrooms, Blueberries, carrots and turnips as plants on my map as they're somewhat harder to come by.
Raspberries and cloudberries are so easily to spot, I don't see the need to mark them.

Well, cloudberries I usually mark only in one area.

Lorestone: Where I left the Boat.

The only typing I will ever do I using Campfire and typing "M" to denote it is a mushroom cluster and not a berry one.

tough hare
#

Yellow Mushroom: No need as they're found in sunken crypts, burial chambers and troll caves and respawn in the first two for sure.
I don't even mark the mistland and ashland mushrooms, as you will be able to plant the former and find enough of the latter. Same with vineberries, btw.

Animal spawns: no need for, as they wander away from it anyway.

Metals: Copper and Silver are marked. Either for direct mining or for a possible later mining journey. I will most likely mark Flametal later too.

Other thing I do mark are buildings, but usually the wooden ones are marked as "huts", the ones in the BF are "stone towers" or "Stone tower ruin". All crypts, Frost caves and troll caves are marked too, as well as Draugr or Fulling villages. And all end up with a cross through it once I'm done with clearing them.

tough hare
# regal ocean Wait can you even tame deer

Can't tame deer in Vanilla Valheim.

However, if you manage to trap one, it's possible to build a boar pen around the deer and keep the boars in it.
Just expect the deer to run around a lot when you feed or cull the boars .

Also, "pro"-tip: Make sure your boars are in an enclosed area. So walls and roof so you keep the save from a later event.

regal ocean
tough hare
#

For taming yes. But for breeding boars having them in some sort of a shed with solid walls and a roof is the best.

regal ocean
#

Ok thanks

#

Can you tame neck?

tough hare
#

Nope.

#

There are 4 creatures you can tame. One from the Meadows, one from the Mountains, one from Plains and one from Ashlands.
You are also able to breed chickens at some point and the animal you can tame from the Ashlands can also lay eggs which you can hatch at your base.

Stop trying to solve it and just experience it.

regal ocean
tough hare
#

No, unless you find a boar with a single or two stars.
In that case tame it and breed it with the ones you have. As soon as you have offspring, kill the ones without stars and keep the ones with.
Each star doubles the amount of things they drop, so having a couple with two stars saves you from a lot of hunting. And in a way also takes away a bit of the exploring part.

Me and a friend got to the fire island a week ago but the island is just impossible. You can't even place down a portal that won't get destroyed within minutes because of all the monster spawns. We just kept on dying and dying which was really frustrating. We tried spawnproofing but the monsters just keep destrying everything. Is there a way to build a base and prevent mob spawns which they won't constantly destroy? OR is there some commands we could use to do it? If we can just have stable portal that won't constantly get destroyed it would make our lives way easier and the island more enjoyable, but constantly having to re-make the big boat to get there sucks. Overall it was just not challenging or the likes to go and conquer the fire biome, it was just annoying...

# karmic breach Melee, my friend as a mage

Okay, mage wants to keep distance against enemies, cast shield bubble for protection, throw fire balls with Ember staff at groups since it has good AoE and deals also high amount of blunt damage along with fire (they aren't immune to fire). Frost staff is useful against single targets and for slow effect. Dead raiser is not necessary, but can be useful as distractions for enemies when they have shield bubbles on.

Melee wants to have good protection, high HP and moderate stamina. Any Mistlands weapon (except Jotun Bane) is viable against Ashlands mobs, but Silver weapons are also useful due to added spirit damage and lower stamina usage. AoE weapons like Himminafl or Demolisher are very useful against groups of enemies. Avoid blocking/parrying starred warrior attacks if you don't use buckler and until you learn their attack patterns. Frostner is also useful for keeping enemies away due to knockback and slow effect.

Both mages and melees benefit from mobility that Ratatosk tonic and Lightfoot mead grant. Also HP/Eitr regen and Lingering stamina meads are good to have.

Usually as long as the egg is in the same area where you see the fire icon, it should be good

#

Make sure you don’t place a stack. They have to single items to grow and hatch

honest cedar
#

I'm using the eggs from yagluth, tried placing them single in all sorts of locations around the fire. I might just rebuild my coupe

thorn spire
#

Sometimes it takes a second or two, you should be able to hover over the egg and it will say (warm)

brave parcel
# echo sparrow i asked because i'm FAIRLY sure from having built my own base around spawn (lite...

I think you may be right. My first base was a bit further and did not seem to have as many spawns with far fewer base items spammed everywhere, then I upgraded and moved my base closer to the stones and genuinely have greydwarves spawning on my door steps despite having a grotesque amount of base items spammed.. Not really looking forward to breaking everything down just to test this though :

thorn spire
#

@honest cedar Maybe share a screenshot if you’re still having trouble

#

@brave parcel , @echo sparrow I’m pretty sure I’ve read before that there is a permanent spawn location right in the centre of the stones that can’t be suppressed

honest cedar

works fine but, in my future playthroughs unless something like my suggestion RE the center is implemented I will instead be building a small outpost near the stones with a portal and building the MAIN base, elsewhere

knotty dock
#

hello, before on the map I could see numbers, now I can't, how can I put them back?

honest cedar
#

@thorn spire This is what I mean right now. How close does the egg have to be? It's still "too cold"

#

Oh it takes time for them to turn warm

echo sparrow
#

in my experience anywhere the player gets the 'fire' status effect is close enough, but you're right it takes the dropped egg a bit to "realize"

Will thistle be important at some point? I have so much but never used it

echo sparrow

also you will need it for one of the first, if not literally the first, food unlocking upgrades (which is one of the most important progression steps for upgrading stats, getting access to better food)

regal ocean
#

Ok cool thanks

echo sparrow
#

no prob

#

a good rule of thumb especially early when you tend to have more inventory space is to just collect and keep everything, build more chests to hold it, rather than throwing it away and letting it despawn--you'll be glad later when you find uses for it and need a few stacks handy

placid urchin
#

iron atgeir has a block armor of 28, block force of 40 and parry bonus of x2, the iron buckler has 28, 30 and x2,5. does that mean i can parry stronger monsters with the atgeir but the damage i deal them afterwards is lower ?

echo sparrow
#

the multiplier is applied to the block force upon succesful parry

#

e.g., a parry with iron buckler is 75 based upon these stat figures

#

while an atgeir would be 80

steep tusk
echo sparrow
#

both/all parries, i think, just do an identical double damage--and I think that's actually a function of it 'staggering' them--there are monsters, bosses I think, immune to stagger and so for them parrying a lot less valuable, only really decreases the "oomf" of the hit (because your block armor will be higher), but a round or tower shield does that arguably about as efficiently and more reliably

steep tusk
#

Parrying bosses is a waste of stamina, yes.

echo sparrow
#

exactly

placid urchin
#

thanks a lot for all the explanation, so if i got that right the iron atgeir is slightly better for parrying and blocking damage than the iron buckler right ? but the damage will purely be based on the weapon

true steeple
#

Staggered enemies always take 2x damage. It doesn’t matter if they were staggered by damage or by parrying, or what item was used to stagger or parry them.

#

They block block equally well, but the buckler will parry better

echo sparrow
#

oh also, 'block FORCE' is different than block 'ARMOR'

true steeple
#

Block force is knockback

echo sparrow
#

to be clear--force reduces KNOCKBACK only IIRC--ARMOR is what reduces the damage

steep tusk
#

Iron Atgeir parry is 56 at all ranks.
Iron Buckler parry is 70, 85, 100.

true steeple
echo sparrow
#

wait both do?

true steeple

Block force IS knockback

steep tusk

☝️

echo sparrow

oh it knocks THEM back?

steep tusk
#

Yes.

echo sparrow
#

ohhhhh, weird lol--see that's a stat I never cared about too much, learn something new every day

steep tusk
#

Not caring about it is the correct approach.

rugged mica
#

guys is it able to transform server from not dedicated serwer to dedicated serwer ?

echo sparrow
#

but yeah ARMOR is what you want for blocking damage and succesfully parrying--I DID think it was weird the stat numbers were suggesting the ategeir would parry BETTER lol

placid urchin
#

i thought that it was weird aswell

steep tusk
#

The only shield Iron Atgeir beats is Wood.

placid urchin
#

but is the parry bonus is still applied to those numbers ? so 56x2 for atgeir and 70x2.5 for the buckler ?

true steeple
#

Those numbers already have the parry bonus applied

steep tusk
#

☝️

true steeple
#

The block armors are both 28

placid urchin
#

ohhh of course, thanks a lot yall

steep tusk

28/34/40

the real 'blocking' of the atgeir is the spin secondary attack--spin and stab

steep tusk

Raises hand - swipe attack, just roll and avoid all damage
Both hands on belly - poison vomit, just turn around and walk away from him to avoid all damage
Puts hand into armpit - adds spawn, run in direction he is facing and once the ball hits the ground you can one-shot all enemies before they have time to attack, avoiding all damage

echo sparrow
#

oh that's why you're dying
go find a bee hive, and make some poison meads

steep tusk
#

None of the swamp foods require honey.

echo sparrow
#

yeah but fighting bonemass without poison resist and with the best available gear by that point is just asking to die, or at least making the fight so much harder and longer

steep tusk
#

If you're still eating honey in the Swamp that is problems 1-9,999 and you should start by fixing that.

echo sparrow
#

because you REALLY have to avoid constant very difficult to completely avoid poison damage

steep tusk
#

Also, as I just explained, you can do the entire fight very easily without being hit once. So dying in two hits shouldn't happen either.

echo sparrow
#

if you don't mind cheese and it taking awhile, you can always just build up into the indestructible trees (which USUALLY are near enough the spawning altar, unless you get some weird swamp island spawn) to make a platform then shoot him to death with arrows from there--I recommend bringing like 3-5 stacks of arrows at least, and a workbench covered up there to repair the bow wouldn't hurt, since with his resistances this method will take AWHILE without frost arrows

#

i would log on and help but I am not gonna be at my pc for hours

steep tusk

echo sparrow

native parcel

oh wait, you are so right!! thank you!! i have barely every played in the mistlands so i wanted to make a huge main base in the plains as a starting point 🫑

plains and mountains are the best looking areas in the game πŸ™‚

ripe bone

would agree if not for mistlands

regal ocean

ripe bone

short cosmos
#

mistlands blows, it only looks good with all of the mist removed, even then it doesn't look that good imo

ripe bone
#

Its the most absolutely GORGEOUS vivid vibrant biome, removing all of the mist is absurd because theres all sorts of valleys without it and you can go above it and around it etc etc...

#

mistlands > plains > mountains > black forest > meadows > deep north > ashlands > ocean > swamp

short cosmos
#

those all sorts of valleys are useless since they don't have mines, or camps 99% of the time since they aren't considered the main mistlands islands

#

plains is the most beautiful biome imo & mountains the most unique, if mistlands was removed from the game I'm sure everyone would be happy πŸ™‚

ripe bone

everyone as in like 36% of people

I know i would be up in arms

ripe bone

Its really not pretty in any way, its gloomy, its tedious to have a base in

its the best biome for content....and the best biome never to really stay in.

i think they all have their own vibes that can be built in and look really really cool!

short cosmos

plains > mountains > ashlands > swamp > meadows > forest > mistlands > ocean imo

even mixing and matching looks awesome. ashlands build pieces in the black forest look so cool! or making something in the swamp?? awesome too!

ripe bone

i was too but i'm going back and forth

short cosmos

if it was content I think

ripe bone

the black forest has fucking amaazing little details and ferns and plants, just down amongst the ground and stuff.

Mmmmmm

#

ashlands > mistlands > mountains > swamp > forest > meadows > ocean > plains. πŸŽƒ

#

The plains really really underwhelmed and disappointed to me the first time i got to them

#

no light armor, an armor set made of iron??, no blackmetal armor?, less weapons overall?, no magical effects on any of the weapons?, useless lox cape and useless linen cape?.

short cosmos
#

lox cape is awesome, padded armor looks cool, black metal weapons are cool, the biome looks amazing, sealed towers, stone formations all around, etc

steep tusk
#

Lox cape is probably my favorite in the whole game.

ripe bone
#

Cool cool.....anyways, still useless.

#

the wolf cape exists, enough said, no reason to use the lox cape.

#

padded armor looks fine if not disappointing for the lack of some crazy looking black metal armor, it should be a medium armor set or something.

short cosmos
#

wolf cape is ugly and lox cape is easier to get πŸ˜‰

frosty frost

echo sparrow

didn't the original plains lack tar pits and the sealed towers? i could see how without those it would feel kinda barren

steep tusk
#

Yes.

echo sparrow
#

as is, think it's a great spot, totally agree though the earlier capes need more to distinguish them mechanically

#

lox & linen capes literally are no better than the previously available wolf cape

steep tusk
#

Still felt fine tbh.
It's Plains.
When you think of plains-type terrain irl, you're not imaging crowded, busy, populated areas.

echo sparrow
#

it's 100% down to aesthetic preference at that point

steep tusk
#

Ah, interesting. Ashen is the only cape with notable armor stats.

echo sparrow
#

i wish all capes had some unique buff to at least give some argument for them--especially when they're the only piece of armor that arguably never goes obsolete/diminshes value, since all BUT the ashen 'combat cape' have identical armor

frosty frost
#

If you will wait around 10 minutes i can join πŸ™‚

steep tusk
#

Which actually makes my Ashlands warrior armor better, lol.

#

Because the Ask set gives you the stamina cost reduction, but you lose 10 armor per piece (30 total) compared to Flametal.
But the Ash Cape gives you 14 of those 30 points back. (18 armor vs. 4) and gives you even more stamina reduction.
