Ok
Isn't it more fun just to find out? I feel you've learned more in here than actually playing.
Probably not.
At least when something goes wrong now, the "excuse" will be that the wrong information has been given, instead of blaming it on a faulty decision of the one getting the information.....
i got 60+hours
Hands up everyone in 4 figures.
I think I'm well over 1,000 perhaps even more.
Derek got most likely over 2,000 hrs.
Both of us have learned most of the things you ask us about by experiencing it ourselves.
Learning from a "book" is one thing. Experiencing things is a whole different thing. Because everyone reacts differently and thus something one person tells to do, won't work for another person.
Yeah its called subjective opinion
Thats what usually happens through word of mouth
sigh
OK, let me rephrase it:
You're not playing your game, we are.
Everytime you run into something and ask us: "What's this?", "Can I use that?", "How to deal with this or that?" we give you advise, which you then follow.
Kinda like you're playing monopoly and roll dices, then use the outcome that suits you best.
If you want to play this game and experience it like it's meant to be, go out there, make mistakes and learn from those.
Like we all did.
mistakes are setbacks
i have yall to avoid them
its like i have generational wisdom backing me up
Mistakes can be fun.
Yet still trying to biome skip.
You learn from mistakes.
Or at least, you should.
But seeing this answer, I doubt you do.
And that's exactly my point.
We're here, holding your hand to help the "young, scared, WildFrog."
The moment you got something you don't know about, you ask us.
You need to experience things alone, otherwise you will come back here with your 4th, 5th, 100th character and still ask us "what's this?", "how to deal with that?"
I died
Saw drake and then wolves cam out of nowhere
i also saw the stone monster slow fella
i got hit with fall dmg and then wolves finished me off
was weird angle
but that's just all because I was too greedy
got bit more than 4 and I even looted some spiral room
obsidian arrows seem to be superior option now
They're great pretty much till the end.
excellent
if you are using troll or root armor, the level 5 workbench will be helpful in upgrading those
upgraded my troll set to lvl 4 now 40armour
thats was the idea yes
for mods, has the valheim community abandoned the nexus mod manager? ive seen most people go to r2modman manager. i remember when i played with mods a few years ago that nexus was the way, what happened?
thx for the channel, appreciate it. though it does not answer my question
I wonder where you might ask the question.
Do you guys plant onions or skip them? They dont seem very useful considering theyre only used in three recipes
Onions are essential.
what do I do when recipes don't unlock? I have all the stuff I need to craft it, but it won't show in the forge. this is the frostner in a lvl 5 forge
Onions are great for stamina. Great for farming and foraging. A gate field will make a lot of soup ๐
There will be more uses for onions in later biomes.
Is it definitely level 5?
i think it only needs 3 for frostner anyways
True.
Do you have the ymir flesh?
Try dropping one and picking it up again
Do you use any mods by any chance?
tried that
no :)
You have smelted silver?
yes, like I said I got everything I need
You obviously don't else it would work.
Maybe quit the game and restart again.
they're good. always want to have plenty of onions
ok? haha
tried, also doesn't work :/
Not to nitpick, but you haven't shown the ancient bark ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Do you have any other Silver weapon/armor recipes?
They mentioned it above.
yes I have wolf armor
Mentioned != shown.
-# Also why are all the dots turned into commas in the game ui? ๐ญ
๐
See, now no one can give you shit about materials.
Regional differences.
Don't give that vibe people are trying to help
Silly question, but have you everything in your inventory?
Also, the amount of silver is a bit low.
The amount isn't important for the recipe.
You won't be able to craft it, but it should still show
Unless it's a pre-bog witch save.
In that case it won't see one of the items as "gathered"
I've spent hours looking through that list and utterly missing things staring straight at me.
it's not there at all. my group can craft it, so I'll just have them do it and hope it shows up after a couple restarts. ty guys
Hence why I suggested picking things up again.
True, maybe dropping all ingredients and picking up again.
Am I invisible?
True. But has it been done?
So far it looks like they're taken from the chest and not dropped on the ground.
The flowers in your name tag are quite visible.
I have:
Dropped and picked up
Got my friend to drop it to me
Picked up from chest
Restarted the game
So it's in the list and you just can't see it. It happens.
Or it's a mod you're definitely not using.
Is there any chance you have used mods before but disabled them? @inland gorge
So, has your friend the Frostner in the list on the forge?
I don't even know how to mod lol, I'm just playing on my save on steam
He's already said they can make it. Repeating things isn't helping.
Yeah, they made me one but I can't upgrade it either so I guess they have to do everything. I'm a she btw
Sorry
Humour me one last time. Get a friend to count how many items down in the list the Frostner is, then do the same in yours.
Only the world host can use devcommands, right?
yup
whats a good armor for the mistlands? i feel like i'm getting bodied
What's your food?
I think you woke up Simon and Garfunkel with that question.....
ur issue prolly has more to do with how ur fighting
why is there too much fog everywhere all of a sudden(not talking about mistlands)
generally, its ok to be patient. wait for enemy to attack and then attack
Some days are foggy.
for me its most days after playing like 200+ in game days it was never foggy when i started
Some biomes are more foggy than others (not talking about the Mistlands)
i played for honor for years i beat grounded i played ark for ever i beat all the dark souls game i beat elden ring and the dlc and i just can't overcome the sheer power and durability of the soldier ant ๐
yea but i feel like its beggining to be too much foggy everywhere even in black forest and meadows which i have never seen
you gotta wait for when it's smashing the ground and then go to it's back and hit
or parry i guess works
Parry with shield, jump over, throw a spear at butt.
Or jump behind from side and hit butt.
so the back is the key huh? devious backshots inbound
This happen your first character or have you played others before?
Weather is fixed for each day, so if this is your first character, you may indeed not have experienced it before.
Bad news, though: Boomerang arrows aren't invented yet.
Butt is the weak point. All weapons deal good damage at it.
http://valheim.kirilloid.ru/weather#1 if you want a better weather day.
Another valid option if butt is not possible: Frostner deals a bit better damage thanks to the frost damage it doesn't resist.
Butt is always possible.
how to check current day
Sleep?
New weapon: Foggner. Swinging changes the weather to foggy.
does the stamina cost of blocking or parrying with a shield, get affected by any stats on that shield?
will upgrading my iron buckler reduce said cost?
Sounds like a new weather staff.
iirc the cost will remain the same. But upgrading it will increase your durability, which will help you protecting yourself better in the long run.
You can easily compare the stats of any item when having it selected and then check the values showed under the upgrade tab.
Successfully blocking requires up to 10 stamina (proportional to the leftover damage value after the reduction of step one). what precisely does this mean
is it like, if the attack is reduced to half damage then blocking costs 5 stamina?
In all fairness, I don't know.
The one who wrote it may know.
I simply try to block / parry any incoming attack, instead of worrying about a mathematic formula that may or may not end up with my character getting damage.
It's a game after all, not some rocket science class.
The only thing I know and which I actually care about is that your amount of HP is important for blocking / parrying something or not.
Well, and your timing when it comes to parrying.
The cost of parrying is always 20 but for normal blocking, itโs up to 10 depending on how much damage wasnโt blocked
Sometimes the troll hits me hard i block but still take a lot of damage like 50hp gone yet the troll gets stunned and i kill him right after, just confused why i received so much dmg maybe the aoe attacks work differently?
The two-handed attack of an unarmed troll has a melee hitbox and aoe instance. Maybe youโre only blocking one of those hits?
when does the ability to craft the yule tree go away? I am taking a break from building my giant base, but I don't want to miss out
I think January 6th?
By the way, you can hide one underneath your home (provided you foundation allows it) so you can always have the benefit of it even though itโs out of sight.
Awesome, thank you!
Is there a decent method of building to prevent animals congregating in corners? The little fuckers tend to eat all my food and then refuse to breed because they're all crammed together.
i haven't found a way, but i never noticed it stop breeding, only that i had to push around the chickens to get the eggs
if there's too many chickens/eggs, they may not breed
it kinda looks like you're at cap
Maybe I'm misinterpreting it, then. I feel as though they produce more eggs when there are less around.
Good point though, I should figure out what the cap is for chickens
The eggs are included in the total chickens/sq meter, so more chickens, the less eggs you'll produce is accurate.
Hm, would be nice to see the optimal chicken density (lmao) for production then in terms of speed. since if you only have a few chickens, then it'll underproduce in terms of speed
I feel like I could end up with some sort of diagnosis just off of the phrase 'optimal chicken density'
Shouldn't be hard to work out.
OCD- optimal chicken density
That'd be a great wiki entry without further clarification. Simply:
The optimal chicken density is 2Cm^-3```
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YU8SXNCmwQ - you can design one yourself pretty fast, but as long as the eggs roll down far enough, to a fire warmed area, you can keep making chickies for as long as you have the food out
Ah shit, nice
I've followed this before ๐ I wasn't a huge fan as the rate of production seemed slow unless I was regularly nearby
animals don't breed unless you're nearby. A chicken tower with 8 hens that has the eggs dropping out of the 10m radius produces eggs pretty fast though
We do our best.
you need to be nearby animals anyway, so finding a way to incorporate it into your usual area is best, yah
you guys deserve better than fandom, I really wanna introduce the wiki people here to the guy who runs the osrs/lol/minecraft wikis
We're good, thanks.
Alright, I will contain my agenda until further notice
Yeah, this is no place for agendas. I'm not moving 1005 pages to a new server for precious little gain.
When we hit 1.0 we might consider it.
well god bless the wiki dudes, honestly
I am well aware of how much work people involved in wiki curation do for very little gain
Oh, I didn't mean monetary gain, we're all volunteers. I just think the work involved in lifting and shifting at this stage outweighs any advantages there might be.
Yup, no worries, I just used the same word in a different context, not that I misinterpreted
How do i turn fog off
You can't.
Hi, such a question, is there a mod to regulate the hoe terraforming area?
Hey does anybody know the textbook/effective way to get hare?
i see
spawn hare
Do you guys think its too late to get my friend into valheim considering that were already almost done with the mountains ๐
It's never too late.
How would I even like go about it though?
Should I just give him the stuff or let him catch up with my help
is there an ingame chat for talking to everyone in the world?
Yeah its 4 of us and were a tight friend group
I can explain everything to him but I mean like I really dont know if its better to just drop items to him or let him discover them
if you do the Bronze x5 and your crafting perk pops, does it give you 5 extra, or 1?
ive got 2 tamed wolves will they be ok if i run them home?
yah
Does the bonemass locator spawn in crypts?
yes, as well as larger stone buildings in the swamp
Just 1 extra
ew, ok, so i guess i'll keep doing 1 at a time then, thanks
If abomination is very resistant to pierce 0.25x means my atgeir does 75% less damage?
sounds like math, probably.
Anyone with math phd lol
Sounds about right, if not, close enough
But yeh you can look at it like that or that your weapon is doing only 25% of normal damage
Okey then follow up question, if I use a literal iron axe vs iron battle-axe is this even a stupid suggestion? It's a moving tree afterall
It'll do normal damage, it isn't weak against chop or slash afaik
Does stagger limit mean my atgeir's ultimate ability will only stun 1/3rd of the time? Or knockback in that sense
Sounds plausible, I'm not too sure on that though
Give it take, though I've never used it. The aboms attacks are parriable, though.
I kinda haven't gotten the hang of parrying, i manage to do it unreliably 50% of the time
I generally use a sword or axe with an iron buckler or banded shield. But yeh parrying can be tricky.
Wait if u parry with a shield is it always gonna block damage?
Compared to say atgeir blocking?
Depends, if you're early to parry then yes. But if you're late to parry you're likely gonna get hit full on.
Though, that last part is pretty obvious.
I've never tried blocking with an atgeir cause I don't use them, but I imagine the blocking is better on a buckler either way.
I see
Is there a way to know where an abomination is? Or am I supposed to always be surprised by one popping up in front of my face?
look at night time
There's a stump
getting used to the texture of it i can now see abomination nodes from a distance, its hard to explain they look like suspiciously placed greener than usual stumps.
Yeh that
I always mean to try to get a picture so I have one, but I'm most always looking to avoid them in the moment
Looks about right
It's just damage they can't retaliate against until they do get up, so unless you just don't want to for the sake of a "fair" fight, I don't really see why not
Iron or Root armor?
They're both good
Is one better?
Also where are these annoying turnips!? Iโve looked everywhere in the swamp!
They're tough to find, you're looking for murky yellow flowers
I Found some in the mountain staircase to hell type of structure lol
That's debatable, but the root chest is viewed as one of if not the best chest piece due to its pierce resistance. That coupled with iron leggings and helmet gives you pretty good armor plus the pierce resistance. Which a fair number of enemies deal pierce damage.
iron axe on aboms is really fast, it's like 2 buckler parries
maybe 3 if your axe damage isn't super high
wdym
get under the abom, when it goes to hulk smash you, parry it with a buckler
Parry staggers the aboms, then you can hack away
i donbt have gear yet
No worries, just for future reference
Right now Iโve got full iron armor, an iron mace, a reinforced shield (I think thatโs what itโs called), and a fine wood bow.
What next?
mace does great in the swamp... except for the aboms ๐
you can use the reinforced shield though
dont have mace
honestly... iron axe for chopping trees, an iron pickaxe, and you're set
Why do we want to kill the aboms?
Bet ๐
To get the root armor
iron bow
the trophy gives fishing bait, the roots let you craft the cool armor
I have an Abom trophy! How do I use it as bait?
since you're using iron armor, it slows you down, for mountains, you should definitely find the bog witch and make the speed mead
lets go
the preparation table
Go to haldor, get some fishing bait, and then use the prep table to combine them
Serpents trophies, lox, fuling, and troll make baits as well. I think drakes and leeches too.
(Iโm not looking anything up, only aloud to ask actual people for advice) ๐ first play through
A trader in the swamp
She has many things you need
many cool things!
Oh! Random encounter?
it has spawn locations, the first location you pass, is the one that's made the permanent location
๐
BOING slash slash slash, BOING slash slash slash
Sort of, there are several possible locations she and the other 2 traders can pop up throughout the world, but the first one you come across will be their permanent place in the world... yeh what iamsent said lol
Please tell me they have that impenetrable bubble ๐ญ
it does... but that one sometimes doesn't work that well ๐
Yes, though it is broken occasionally
๐
it "usually" works though!
got eeeem
you know, i don't make the iron armor much, i forgot how cool it looks
You usually use root?
troll, then root, then fenris
A less cool silver armor
๐
yes, i don't use silver either... i think i remember what it looks like ๐ฎ
how many abominations do i need t kill for a maxed root set?
probably like 10-12
Give or take
I went into a crypt and found an entire root armor set in one of the chests..
you must be playing modded?
Well my buddy did not me
gear doesn't spawn in chests, so something is changed
well...
if he happens to find a lvl4 silver sword in a chest, you may want to have a conversation with them ๐
๐
Iโm rolling mace, one of my friends are rolling ancient spear and the other iron sword. Good?
yah, those are the 3 things i mainly use
We thought itโd be good for variety
i also use axes a lot, because i have it on me at all times
two completely random world seeds look insanly familiar
looks like it's 66 roots for a maxed set, so 14 aboms
is there anything that dictates if a seed could have similar terrain, like mountains and lakes
another down
Noice! Keep it up. Going to bed, good night everyone. GRINDING TOMORROW
have a good one!
I cant seem to nail blocking thjo
1/3rd of the time i have it i block before i get punched with like 2seconds even before i egtt hit still i take dmg
are you solo?
you can block earlier than you'd think, you can also keep tapping the block button as well
if you're playing with a group, sometimes the timing gets a little off, if you're not the host of the area
Wait before I go, how do people have roles like โgraydwarf?โ
i think it used to automaticlly give some roles
Gotcha, they should put some more roles you can choose from that could be your favorite mob or something ๐
Anywho, cheers ๐ป
4th abomination down
I feel like dodging works better than parrying most of the time
There are many differences between one handed and two handed axes.
Battleaxe is bit slower, but has wider hitbox, no MTP and primary attacks has 1,5x multiplier to stagger plus additional knockback. Secondary attack is quick and deals 1/2 damage but has 6x multiplier to stagger and more knockback.
Both axes can be used to cut wood, battleaxe has a small advantage when hitting multiple trees/logs thanks to no MTP property.
It's currently a weapon type that suffers the most compared to other 2h weapons as there are only 2 of them in game and they slow you down by -20%, which is injustice IMO. But it is great when you learn to use it.
A combination for me worked better
Damn
So do you use the battle-axe then?
I like it a lot, I have now crafted both of them that can be crafted during my latest runs.
It can decimate Abomination easily thanks to added stagger multiplier.
Plus great against groups.
Additionally, never not funny to launch Greyling or Neck down from a cliff with it's secondary attack.
I really tried to use the Crystal Battleaxe.... it's so cool looking, but I just couldn't handle the attack speed and slowdown
I mean, the movement speed penalty is hefty, compared to atgeirs and 2h swords. Fortunately Ratatosk Tonic helps against that and using 1 or 2 Fenris armor pieces.
Or keeping it unequipped when running.
And slower attack speed should mean more attack damage IMO.
Like most enemies: parry, hit. Or atgeir secondary, then primary hit.
but its kinda above me
Move a bit so it gets lower.
im a tough situation here in the swamp
low stamina and water and im getting chased by some other sdtuff
I logged back in and the wraith was gone
interesting
I cheated death probably
i need 66 root for a full root set for it to have just 2 more armour than troll set ha ha
but i get poison and pirce resistance 50% and bows +15skill
50% poison resistance from the mask does this mean Il take half as much dmg from poison or that it will be harder to poison me lol
so armour wise just as much as full iron set, interesting
at least lvl idk whats max for iron set
well, it's 6 more armor total, but when your armor is only 36, having an additional 6 armor, is about 17% extra armor, and it makes a difference in the mountains too
and yah, you're getting some bonuses, including bow bonus, which is great in mountains
it reduces both damage and the duration of the poison effect
inventory space in the swamp is huge too, as there's just so many things you want to pick up - having an extra slot (no poison pots) is nice too
poison is relatively easy to avoid once you know the biome though, the pierce resist on the harnesk is much more valuable.
is it possible to go down this
wym
Kill it you mean?
btw awesome method to kill these is use bonfire
i go super early to swamp when im basically naked and just use bonfire to kill and get early root chest
you can learn a LOT watching speedrunners
it's a good method but if you're new imo you're better off learning how to actually fight first before starting cheesing things.
prolly
because not doing so will bite you in the ass in later biomes ๐
tru
as for killing them iron buckler and 2 BF hp food are definitely enough to parry its attacks, should be good to just block too
i know you can easily block them with the same food and a l2 bone tower shield
This game is really fun and I enjoyed playing it immensely, but once I got to ashlands it felt like one person wasn't enough to navigate it or do anything without being swarmed
You need AoE damage. Also getting the black forge/galdr table upgrades ASAP and upgrading your Mistland gear to level 4 will make things much more comfortable.
Yeah I had a lot of upgrades and new stuff from that biome
Because I kept throwing myself at it for hours
any enemies in particular you have trouble with?
just the sheer quantity of them and how difficult it is to escape them
I can deal with a few of any of them but when I've got a dozen enemies and more approaching from behind idk what to do
yea ashlands is like that. gotta be careful
i find it's generally better to pull and kill as you go in Ashlands instead of trying to bypass mobs
watch the skies for vultures & fallen valks and make sure you're kiting in safe areas
you can oneshot marksmen, twitchers and voltures with the ripper as you go, you can easily outrun warriors and kill lava blobs by simply running past them, so they're not really an issue if you pay attention.
asksvin and morgen should be pulled from afar to an already-cleared area since their terrain destruction makes a lot of noise (same as mining basically) and pulls more enemies.
Valkyries should also be pulled from afar (you can see them from a long distance) and a sneak attack with a ripper easily takes half their health.
If you do happen to get swarmed focus on dodging and staying alive and let the friendly fire whittle them down a little before you jump in to finish of the rest.
alright take it slow
I've been trying to run past enemies and I always get surprised by how long they chase you for
once you get into the groove of it you'll be killing enemies as you go, but yes, especially at the beginning
meant ot send this pic but got attacked
yep that's a recipe for disaster in the ashlands. don't do that lol.
not when it's filled with water. You can (rarely) find dry ones though if the ground is a bit higher and the mountain has similar structures
oh its the samwe thing, ive gone down one theres just a chest, thought for a swamp its different
got full set
lvl 1
kinda sad there's no cape
Is there a set amount of iron you need for the gear/armor/crafting stuff?
I just found 4 huge crypts and was wandering if I can wrap up the iron age with just that
well yeah, once you've built and upgraded one of everything you only need more iron for building. You do need some iron for gear even in later biomes though.
ok, I see, so no set number i guess?
according to the wiki it takes 1373 iron to craft and upgrade one of each equipment piece and upgrade it to max. Add the cost for crafting stations to that and that's how much you need if you don't use any for building.
ok, ty
There is a set number but that number depends on what you want to do.
I for one need less iron than my mate since I don't create the iron armor, since I go for root but my buddy makes the iron armor.
The bog witch can appear in some unexplored swamp areas right?
it's hard with crytps, and likely 4 isn't enough, especially considering you use a ton later in the game too. plus, each crypt can give you 25.... or 120. it's so random.
I would say, shoot for 400 iron, just so you don't have to go to the swamps for a while ๐
hi guys i need a help.
I want to move my local world to another pc and host it locally from there.
Do i need to just copy these files
i got a fulling totem
You'll need a few of those to summon the plains boss.
Yoooooooo was good
Same! Me and you are at the same place rn in the game ๐ช
ye that should work
had a whole ordeal trying to get world files from a friend then upload into a hosting third party service
make sure to get all forest, height, and map files
Just the fwl and db will do.
You could do a (steam)cloud save and then load the save from the cloud into the other PC.
That way you will be able to play the world on both PC's without having to move the files all the time.
Deer cape looks really good with this set by the way!
ok thanks guys it worked
Enjoy the extra inventory slot!
wdym
If you don't have a cape...
i do
That was a hypothetical statement explaining the other statement you hadn't understood.
If cape not necessary for set bonus, cape not necessary.
Can elect to not wear cape.
If electing to not wear cape, +1 to available inventory slots.
No.
yes.
No.
Yes.
It's literally still there.
forever forgotten it shall be
is there absolutely any point in even reading those runes?
are they just a story
Lore
Is there any point in reading them besides the point in reading them? No.
is it possible that my ship destroyed a part of the rock?
Some do have compendium messages, but they're not necessary for anything
838 messages in 7 days. That's...impressive.
Story is bad?
Yes.
You're on a roll with self-answering questions. ๐ญ
Saves us being on hand every 10 seconds.
castle in works
got raided 3 times by trolls and 2 times by swamp ppl :/
I think im gonna sneak into the plains again to get tar somehow somewhere just for the roof, cause the hay roofs look bad imo especially on a castle
That's more so conversation for #building-discussion or #general
Yall will do everything in your power to get rid of me xd
Nothing of the sort, but this is the help channel after all lol
Sure, if i want to tame a lox, is all i need to do, sit around it for 30mins straight?
I doubt anyone has reported you yet.
And feed it a few cloud berries
Cloud berries hmmm
Or flax/barley ๐
Yeah, don't have any of those xd
I saw clips of ppl building the ground up around loxses, is that a good strategy or is it likely that they will climb out?
Additionally how many cloudberries would one lox want in order to be tamed?
There was a reason I made that comment yesterday.
Basically the Valheim-help channel turned into a WildFrog-chatbox.
Could I instead build myself in a box and wait out the 30mins?
I help when i can, the more i know the more i can help its a win win
They can be found in the plains, cloud berries are puffy yellow berries that grow on the ground. But yes building a ground wall is best because they will pretty much just destroy anything else just by touching it. Just make sure the inside of the wall is sheer and tall enough so they can't path out. As for how many, I'm not sure i just throw stacks of them down cause you'll have hundreds of cloud berries pretty quick just from walking through plains, they're very abundant.
I think this runestone came back up lol
is it possible they are programmed to go up?
I believe they just take into account the ground height directly beneath them and are aligning to that level
Huh?
hmmmmm
I can't believe he's laugh reacted to it.
I can. I'd already something like that to happen. Unfortunately it did happen. ๐ฆ
have i done everything right for them to start breeding?
Hard to tell, do they have food?
If both say happy then they will have babies eventualy ๐
do i have to be in the area?
I think so? No too sure about that, try looking in https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Taming#Breeding ๐
They could be a bit closer to each other.
But as long they are both happy, unalerted and close enough they start to making out (as hearts and sounds will imply that).
what would be the most viable weapon/armor combo for the queen/ashland landing? or do i have no choice but to branch out a least a bit into magic?
I would say 100% mistwalker from melee options as well as carapace buckler (thats currently best parrying shield while even including ashlands stuff) and for armor carapace is certainly not bad, i managed to get through ashlands just fine in the ptb ashlands so now it should be even better ๐
For the queen fight the same but i would take also shit ton of bombs with you ๐
(also ratatosk tonic with heavy armor is just amazing ๐ )
hmmmm.... is root harnesk still worth running or is the peice resistance overshadowed b y the massive upgrade in armor
Oh the harnesk can still work quite well while being more situational, i just preffer straight up more armor than dealing with fire weakness
I was reading online that with mountains, apparently they have different structure types. The only thing I've found out about so far is the 'Thorn' mountain which is apparently third tallest. Is there any further information catalogueing mountain data?
I know that the 3 highest mountains have names ๐ค do you mean that by structure types?
I do, yeah.
I had presumed that the algorithm for generating a biome would be entirely the same across the board, so I'm curious now if there are pre-designed mountains, or rather, that a max height is defined for specific ones?
All maps are part of one "master map" ๐ the game selects a chunk from that and thats your map basically, you have to get lucky and you might get one of the really high mountains
Winter has posted version of it with the 3 mountains marked here if you want #valheim-chat message ๐
The height is pretty much constant apart from starting area that will change the height around spawn, so if you get unlucky and one of the tall mountains would be in the exact centre of the map it might get flattened
That's insane, thanks for that information.
You are welcome
Whats the "silver axe" or whats the next upgrade after the iron axe
You get new axe in plains ๐ mountains dont have one
I guess I'm now curious if all terrain generated is part of the master map
ok thanks!
Oh yes, with you can find on it any seed you play on ๐ actually its kinda funt trying to find it
Is the linked image in the post you sent still relevant to most of the terrain generation now? Since ashlands has changed
OH I think I see it now. Like is it
terrain map = pre-defined
biome map + spawn point = seed-driven?
I believe only the centre of the world can be a bit different while ashlands and probably even deep north areas can be pretty different, rest of the map is still coresponding to the master map on the immage ๐
Thanks, this game is insane the deeper I look
I think that is accurate, yeah ๐
man, it looks like mountains are entirely determined by height
Yepp that seems about right ๐
I should have a bit more complete version of the master map i found without different biomes (only meadows as a base and mountains) if you want
I would love that, genuinely
You should have it in messages ๐
Crystal Battleaxe is Silver axe.
Oh, true that, you get a battle axe there but no one handed axe ๐
Oh ok thanks
I just started and need help learning the game can anyone help me
The raven will help you ๐
I know the best helper is Hugin ingame.
he aint helpin that much
What help do you need?
I'm sure you would figure it out by yourself too but you are also free to ask. ๐
In case you need someone to join you in your game, or you would like to join a game with new players so you can figure things out together; you could also check this channel: https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510 to find someone to help you in your game.
For any other questions, feel free to ask here.
lox can spawn any time in plains right?
Yep
do we still need to rub public test mode to get the bogwitch ?
Nope, its in live branch for quite some time ๐
There is no currently any PTB patch to be tested.
i want to transport a ton of wolves overseas to my new base whats the best and easiest way to do it
Use temporary floors to put them above the longboat/Ashlands ship, destroy the floor, and breed them at destination. I haven't done it before but I don't think you'd be able to transport more than 4-5 per trip
just got to ashlands and my portal is constantly getting destroyed by fire, any way to circumvent it?
how would i get them off the boat when we get there destroy the boat or get them to follow me?
Shield generator protects from weather effects, one of them being fire rain.
thanks!
Or build under fireproof structures.
why is it that when i name myself in valheim it switches the letters between capital and lowercase
whats the interval between Ticks for health regen
guys, best HHS food for ashlands
Four options:
1: build a shield generator,
2: Turn off fire hazard modifier (if that's on) for some time
3: You will get a device to shield your portal from the ashes falling down
4) Over time you will be able to build another - fire resistant - portal. Which also has the benefit of being able to let ores / metals pass through
10 seconds
Just dock close to where a monster is and they will jump off by themselves.
Also, wolves can swim - and a pretty long distance too - as long as you don't sail too fast.
So if the "plank method" doesn't work, they will still follow you as long as you keep the distance not too large.
The fire hazzard modifier doesent matter in ashlands since there Is always fire rain there ๐
how long can they swim?
I had them following me for quite some distance. Took me 20-30 minutes to get them from the mountains to where my main base was.
Most of it was done by paddling or by sailing at half sails in a Karve. And even at half sails there was a chance I would go faster as they were swiming.
Entering Ashlands or after getting ingredients in Ashlands?
Entering: Honey glazed chicken, Misthare Supreme, Fish & bread.
Afterwards: Piquant pie, Mashed meat, Roasted crust pie.
From my experience salad is better because you can make large amounts of it easily
Surely it is easier to make, I agree. But I wasn't sure if they asked the best/easiest option or the best stats stamina food.
If one is good at fishing anglers then surely they can make lots of Fish & bread with a bit more time.
True
hello, is it normal for bodypiles inside crypts to spawn new draugrs the second i kill them ?
if yes how tf am i supposed to clear it
Don't kill the draugr first, kill the bodypile
they kill me in like 3 hits how do i do that plus they block the corridor leading into the room
I typically leave some of the scrap piles in the way so they can't come into the corridor, sneak around the corner until they aren't aggro anymore and sneak a shot or 2 at the bodypile, rinse and repeat if it doesn't explode in the 2 hits.
thanks ill try that, still it would be nice if the spawner had like atleast 5 second cooldown or something
i tried looking for a mod like that but no luck
Running a dedicated server, like that the playfab integration allows me to use just a 6 letter code instead of ips and such, but lately its been very unstable. Anyone got an idea where to get the ip and port for pure steam servers?
Should be able to get that info from whoever is hosting the server.
I'm the one hosting, you think it's just my ip?
i guess i could try lmao sorry its late over here
Well, yes. I'm not sure what else it would be. And the ports are the ones you've specified in your server setup.
im still failing to connect but it does seem to recognise the server
how do we knoiw if a mountain is high enough for silver ? Is this?
Generally if obsidian is spawning then silver will too.
While using cheat keys, I installed an item that did not disappear. Is there any way to turn it back? That item ruins the view around my house.
You can load in previous world saves, before you spawned it in.
Or just delete the offending item.
tysm i try now
tysm sir
I think I succeeded. I love you so much
I think I succeeded. I love you so much
That's a bit extreme, but I'm glad you were able to sort it.
Haha, no problem
correct. this pic was posted a few months ago in one of other channels.
He wouldn't have said it if it wasn't correct.
Yep, this Is the more complete version i talked about a bit later ๐
*If i thought it wasnt correct ๐
|| (But thank you kindly ๐) ||
Why Smiffe no make master map a perfect square? ๐ญ
Smiffe didn't make the master map. It's actually been made in reverse by combining normal circular maps into one large image.
Smiffe made all.
Hey guys, I'm looking for advice on LAN setup. My buddy and I have two PCs, both connected to an offline router (new place, waiting to get Internet). We want to play valheim, but I'm having trouble setting it up. Is there any way to play together with just two machines? I can start dedicated server from steam, but then it won't let me open the game. I am dual booting, and I have valheim on both windows and Linux, same thing on both OSs. I am technical enough to figure some things out, but my hotspot sucks so I'm trying to do it without installing docker
that master map was acquired by modding worldgen to not generate any biome other than meadows and omitting the world's edge, hence why it's so clean. it would go on for presumably infinite distances if it wasn't cut into this specific relevant shape, had a convo with jere about that a year or so ago, got confirmation of my top 3 tallest mountains ranking being correct that way, as the nearest mountain taller than polaris is iirc way beyond the range you can normally get a world in
this example did still generate rivers, that's a lil unfortunate. i wonder if it's possible to also remove the extra layer of noise that adds a slight bumpiness to terrain
Is the fenris set viable into the end game (mistlands/ashlands)? I cant stand being slow and much prefer the speed i get from this set over the other armours.
It's still okay for mistlands, but you'll be happy to find the new armor in ashlands
There's also light armor in the mistlands, if you wanna be a mage though as well
Sweet, thank you.
Is there a limit to how far a raft can go in the game?
The only limit is your bravery.
No, but you may eventually need to repair it due to bumps into rocks and such
okay good to know. I wasn't sure if there was a boundary or something, because it randomly stopped for a moment and I was getting worried.
Also are the areas that boss stones will be located, can they be islands? or are they all connected to a single landmass? Is it normal that I have to raft my way like this just to get to the second boss of the game?
Fairly normal yes
lol
Though if you've already been into a black forest, you should have access to a better boat
im not complaining, I just want to make sure im not overdoing my patience with this game
and damn, I didn't know you could eventually build a boat at that stage. shit.
Yeah, the raft is like using IE / Edge to install Chrome. You spend as little time as possible
well, im using the raft ofcourse, thats the first boat.
erm .... so fully upgraded embla armor, fully upgraded mage staffs..... and I still get easily destroyed by like 4-5 skeletons in ashland if I just make 1 mistake... what am I doing wrong? or Ashland is just not for mages and I suck?
like even my skeleton just.... wither and die.. and they are just standing
like... they are just walking
they in water
Forget bubbles and skeles. Staff of the Wild (Friendtacles ๐) ftw
Ok.. bubbles are still good. But Friendtacles
does bonemass and bogwitch always spawn in the same swamp?
thats a strange question....yes?
They can, but it's more likely to find them in different swamp areas. The swamp w bogwitch on my server doesn't have a Bonemass spawn.
They definitely don't always.
what food should i cook for early game? im about to fight elder and so far ive only eated cooked boar and deer meat as well as honey
Pretty similar to Haldor and Elder spawning, might be somewhat often the case but they certainly don't have to ๐ you were just lucky and/or didn't explore many other swamps that had conditions for her
Make cauldron and some soups, stews and jam ๐
should i go for stamina foods or health?
HHS or SSH works well ๐ depends if you want more stamina to dodge and weave or more health to tank more hits to your face. (H - health food, S - stamina food)
much appreciated
You are welcome
if you want to block/parry you'll probably want two health foods to avoid being staggered. If you rely more on dodging you can get away with one.
Being mage in Ashlands is totally viable and many people find it easier than melee. Your Skeletts, however, can have hard time without the shield bubble. And in that pic they are in water which damages players and all non-Ashlands mobs (plus few Ashlands mobs like voltures and dvergr).
If you have raided any fortresses and gotten any gems (2 of 3 of gems used in new magic items) you can craft 2 new elemental staves and 1 summoning staff that can help tremendously in there. If you have not, then Ember staff is good against groups and Frost staff is good against single targets. Fracturing staff can be useful too against bigger targets like Fallen Valkyrie. Keep shield bubble constantly on to have that extra protection.
For more mobility, you could try Asksvin cape for the small running boost and reduced stamina cost for running & jumping while wind is back. Then you could use Ratatosk tonic for speed and Lightfoot mead for jumping boost and keep avoiding enemy attacks better. Also remember to utilise eitr meads (lingering or instant).
Hi im new to valheim, is it possible that theres a modder spawner if there is an egg on the mountain?
The mountain Moder Is at can have the egg nests, but Its no guarantee the Moder altar will be there
If i spawn proof a little plains island to grow barley, will mosquitoes and fullings with lox still spawn?
If the spawn proof area is big enough to cover the whole island then no.
And i can spawn proof with work benches and fireplaces right?
dont waste time with skeletons. mage gameplay is the strongest and also the easiest. you basically just throw down vines and kite around in the vicinity of the vines until all enemies are slapped to death. you can aoe fireball if you are swarmed by voltures. when your bubble goes down, you jump away and cast bubble while in the air
does anyone know how to relocate animals? I recently tamed a boar and its a good distance away from my base.
Best way Is actually to wait with taming until you have them in the place you want them to be, since they chase after you while still wild ๐
ah, well thats unfortunate
the pig has already been tamed
i tried pushing him manually but he just runs back to his original spawn
You can use hatpoon if you found some leviathans ๐
does fuling totems respawn?
i still haven't beaten elder yet so i dont know what those are XD
also is it weird for me to still be in black forests while being 19+ hours in the game?
Oh not at all ๐ enjoy nice and slow first feel, you can find the leviathans in the ocean but i will not tell much more to not spoil more than i already have regretably
Nah
You can rush bosses and biomes, but taking your time isn't a bad thing
We stayed a full week in the mountains bc me and my mates had trouble getting together online
Then in a single sunday we beat the mountain boss, went in the plains, explored a huge part of it, beat the plains boss, all in a single afternoon
But since we had to build new buildings, upgrade old stations, build new stations, etc etc, we ran out of basic ressources like wood and food lol
would this work...?
Hi guys, newbie here. I'm trying to undermine a massive Copper Deposit, but i can't get any deeper under it. Any tips?
Can I put a cart on a boat?
Mine the parts of it that touch the ground, if what you're trying to do is to explode it
if you want to build a base under it, then ggs
yeah, you have to build a ramp and then destroy it to let it drop
i believe i've seen people just do the boxes from the cart onto the boat more effectively
Also do boats function the same way as carts?
I mean if there's lots of stuff in the boat storage, will it become less maneuverable?
Nope.
ok, ty
a harpoon works really well, you just have to turn on PVP (cross the swords in your tab menu)
if I find a 2star boar in the map (far away from my base), until I kill it it's gonna be there forever, right?
It should yeah
I noticed that you can upgrade the deer hide set to lv3 but to do that, you need workbench lv4, which you get with bronze; but at that point, you can already sew the troll hide set or forge a bronze armor; what's the point in upgrading the deer hide set then?
Well you cant upgrade the troll armor to lvl 4 untill mountains, and carapace untill ashlands, its just a way it is ๐
does upgrading armor sets so far make them viable for later biomes?
Yes, each lvl4 armor is basically as strong as the lvl1 armor of the next biome, however each biome is balanced to be doable in lvl1 gear
can I fit a cart in a Karve?
station it nearby the workbench, and your workbench will be upgraded to craft superior stuff
how do i get finewood tho
chopping block is a workbench improvements, those are stations that improve on another work table
ohhh
find copper and tin, smelt them together for bronze and craft a bronze axe, that will allow you to chop the white trees you saw in the meadows that will give you finewood
thank u good sir
de nada amigo
what weapon should i craft for the bronze?
The bronze atgeir is good for trolls
And you'll need an axe at some point to chop birch and oak trees
depends on your likings, personally I play mostly with dagger + bow, but while you totally should develop your own gameplay, it's important to keep in mind that certain weapons suffer more damage from certain weapons rather than others
for example, 3rd boss is resistant to slash and pierce but is weak against blunt, which makes swords and daggers weak to him but will make maces very effective (just an example)
this applies for all kind of enemies in the world
after you get some experience, you can rambo trolls like I do with a flint knife, hi-framing his hits after you learnt his attack patterns and going in for critical strikes
but again some enemies I just can't take down with the weapons I like -- doesnt matter how much I like knife, it'll take me ages to take down a stone golem for example
Before I get bronze, I roll through their attacks and use a spear/knife
After you get some experience, you can Rocky trolls like I do with bare fists. Hi-framing his hits after you learnt his attack patterns...
I find light weapons to be very rewarding, I don't like to be pinned down the ground and barely move, I like to dodge and move and have plenty of stamina --but that leaves me vulnerable, and sometimes just one hit can be fatal
@steep tusk mock me all you want, I literally did this moments ago while exploring for little islands in a full deer hide set ๐
@spark violet this is just to show you what game experience can let you do, although I was lucky to survive that one hit I got, it can be rewarding to take down foes like this!
Nevertheless, I suggest you first try with heavy armor and shield+blunt weapons, so you learn creature attack patterns and learn to block or dodge them ๐
Ok
so far i like the game, been building my house mostly
(btw I have no idea how the special attack didn't hit the troll, or I would have taken down a big chunk of his HP in critical strike)
Someone who's been around forever recommended an atgeir and you told said person they need more game experience. ๐
@true steeple git gud newb ๐
I did not tell them they need more game experience, I'm just saying this is not something you can pull on your first playthough most likely, but if he enjoys flashy/fast-paced gameplay like I do rather than heavy damage slow playstyle like atgeir and heavy armor, he'll need more practice and learn attack patterns.
I know you're salty with me Sevrahn but chillax
Why would I be salty?
Also I think you're confusing Atgeirs with something else if you remember their rapid attacks being "slow" paced.
Battleaxes are the slow 2h weapon, not atgeirs
โ๏ธ
Atgeirs are those polearm-ish weapons, no?
I was more referring to short range weapons with very high speed values, but I have never really played atgeirs so I couldn't tell, can you confirm?
(pretty much daggers are the only ones with that playstyle I like, especially the dual wield daggers)
i just encountered a troll
I hope you killed it?
Good. Enjoy the new armor.
Now go find yourself some bones, as you will need those.
i have bones
what bronze wepaon should i craft
i watched a video saying the atgeir was the best
It depends what you like to use, but atgeir is a strong option.
I mean
It could be if you like that playstyle. I prefer one handers myself. I really like how the mace swings fast and staggers in bronze areas.
i think im going for the crusade shield + sword combo
Sword in bronze age is good, yah
are mistalnds as a biome safe for a portal for swamp exploring?
If youโre not at least in plains gear, probably not
They're the biome after plains, so what do you think?
what can i do with coins tho
You can craft nice coin piles or use them later at one of the three different traders you will find.
Save them for money sinks known as traders you can find in first 3 biomes.
theres a trader in meadows?
mistalndsd are soooo dark
where
That trader is a bit further from spawn point.
A bit further out. Usually meadows on other islands. And this particular one is usually close to the Plains.
im suprised i havent found him yet
Most likely because you haven't been sailing yet.
yeah this
From 3000 to 5100 meters from center.
how do i craft boats
Radius of the world is 10000 meters.
Craft nails.
k
You will get the recipe when you get the right materials.
Equip the hammer from time to time and check if you see one under the first tab.
If you don't, you may be missing some item.
This basically works for all things you can make. Either on a work bench or the hammer.
Have you crafted bronze axe btw?
nha
It can be used to cut wood your stone/flint axe couldn't.
Yeah i forgot to craft it
You get one material for better boat from those trees, found in Meadows.
At what point of the progression can I start Hildir's quests?
"for a portal for swamp exploring" what do you mean by this?
atgeir is insanely strong mainly because of it's special attack. you spin and stun everyone around you
He means he's once again exploring far beyond what his character is able to; which is being in the Swamp without having Bonemass killed yet.
oh so hes like asking if hes rdy for mistlands
I like the sword buckler combo
thats good too
The stun is amazing
whats not clear about it
You can start it the moment you discover her and accept the quest.
However, the bosses of the specific biomes (Black Forest, Mountains, Plains) are a lot harder as the usual enemies for that area.
So you may consider doing them after defeating the boss of the biome, so you got early next biome gear or maximum gear of the biome the bosses are in.
ok, I see
whats this
What does it look like?
It's the far harbor, you've won the game
If you wanna die
If he entered Far Harbor, he'd better be careful to not run into some Mirelurks......
really??
Yes
Well, yes.
He will one shot you for sure
Wrong answer. The right answer is:
"Why don't your try and find out?"
Certainly
This would be a perfect FAFO moment.
(FAFO = fuck around, find out)
I'd call that a "GASU" moment (Go Ahead and Screw Up)
No
Yes
*Yes (but quite hard to do)
Yes ๐
At Swamp level?
I have serious doubts about it.
Oh yes, it would be quite hard to do as i said, but i believe it is possible ๐
Oh well, I entered the plains with my Black Forest level character in that biome's maximum gear and survived. But barely. And only because the only things I encountered were Deathsquitoes and only because I had my workbench and portal already up.
So it may be doable.
Still not advised to do so, however.
Maybe spamming secondary attacks the way that starred dvergr don't get knocked away. Like against that pole.
But get constantly staggered by secondaries.
would it get staggered?
Yeah, that is the question tho. Atgeirs have 6x stagger for secondary attack and afaik 40% of max life is the limit.
If every secondary hit connects then it should keep that dvergr constantly staggered.
But very risky at that state.
I guess it is about salt then ๐
how did it go?
Fight them both
Can i despawn them
I tried fighting them for half an hour
And the healthbar barely went down
Do they not despawn?
You can't despawn them.
You could try to lure one away from the altar and fight it somewhere else when it's alone.
Otherwise, run away, stock up on the right potions, the right weapons and the right armor and try again.
One trick you could use is running up the indestructible trees and try to hit it from there. At least that way the ads won't be too much of a problem as you can deal with them one at the time too.
How many withered bones do you have left?
Many, why?
In that case, activate dev-commands and debugmode in the console, exit the console and press the "K" key.
That'll kill all monsters in the area, including the bosses.
After that, open the console and use "removedrops" to get rid of all the loot dropped from what you just killed.
When that's done, close console and summon Bonemass again.
Will my character be killed as well?
No
Am i supposed to do this in the server's console or my chat?
server's console.
And only if you're the host.
The console, chat commands aren't the same iirc
I completely underminded a Copper Deposit. It's floating, but doesn't collapse?
Break some of it
The hitbox of a copper node is quite large. Check if there's any tree, rock, log or even the floor near it.
IIRC you will need at least 2 meters between the node and the surrounding.
Meaning you may have to cut some of the bottom for it to collapse.
Need to have at least about 2m of clearance around it
How do i type in console
i see it in front of me but i dont think i can type in it
its a dedicated server so technically i am the host, but maybe this was meant as if I am hosting and playing at the same time
If the game is not being hosted on your PC, no console for you.
awh thanks! yeah we have yet to do our first Fortress, that's why. all fire based damage staffs. would do no damage what so ever. Only the Iceshard missle staff was <<okay<< but it would take all my mana just to take down 1 enemi.
Remember: Ember staff deals also blunt damage, so it is still effective against groups of enemies. Almost all enemies take fire damage too despite being in fiery biome, though they are either resistant or very resistant.
But eventually it will become easier.
Ps. It would be a good idea to carry some melee that are effective against groups, like Himminafl or Demolisher.
Anyone knows why this Copper Deposit just doesn't collapse? It's completely floating, 2m free everywhere and i've hit it multiple times
2m clearance is not a guarantee, the invisible hitboxes are squares that don't even remotely match the visible shape of their fragments, so in some places you need less than 2m, and in some you need way more than 2, 2m is just the most reasonable number to recommend as general advice.
the ground below looks pretty steep, which is always a bit of a problem because the squares are not tilted along the terrain, so my guess is that one of the bigger inner pieces is still "touching" the ground, keep chipping away at whatever is closest to stuff
Yeah the issue is that for some reason i can't dig the bottom out more
you can only dig or raise ground for 8 meters past its natural shape, copper deposits are so big that they almost always go below that, thankfully you can split them down the middle, that's usually what allows them to shatter, but it does complicate things a little as the submerged fragments can also reach up into the air with their invisible boxes to keep the rest afloat further up than you'd expect
Ok, so probably next time just mine the Ore, right ๐ ?
it's so janky that you kinda need to have a feel for it for it to be worth it, yea ๐
but that's mostly because copper's fragments are so huge, the fourth biome's metal (||silver in the mountains||) has tiny fragments and is an absolute breeze to excavate and shatter, i highly recommend doing that still
Sometimes not every node is able to be completely popped when that happened for me with copper Iโd try split it in half and see which half is the half that stays and is connected somewhere
Anyone got a good guide or something for a decent starter house? Cause mine right now looks like this:
You may find something useful in this channel https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202303747053846608 or the ones below that.
I don't think there's a "general" setup as everyone has his / her own preferences.
put your workbench upgrades under the floor
Or on small platforms on the wall. Or even behind the wall, but close to the workbench.
You may even consider to move your workbenches out of your main building, thus creating more room.
You will eventually have a
-
workbench + upgrades;
-
Forge + upgrades
-
stone cutter + upgrade
-
black Forge + upgrades
-
Gjaldr tabel + upgrades
-
Artisan table + spinning wheel
As well as a -
Kiln;
-
Smelter;
-
Blast Furnace
Out of these, the first group could be done in one building, with each crafting station at one wall and the stone cutter, artisan table and spinning wheel in the center.
With a row of chests for all your crafting resources in the center too.
The second group can be put in another building, with the raw metals and charcoal / wood close to it as well.
In one of my first games, I used a similar approach as the Stronghold games, meaning the crafting stations were all located outside under the walkway of my outer wall. It required a lot of walking back and forth with resources, but it worked.
Keep in mind, your the only limit in this game when it comes to building is your own creativity.
Thanks guys, gonna look into it ๐
whats the ideal weight to reach for a cart to still be taken around without too much effort?
Maybe 1500
0
I'd say somewhere between 0 and 1500.....
Can grausten floor be used as a roof for shelter and crafting? Also, does it suck to put in a grausten floor roof? I've got a cross stich of wood iron beams that feels unnecessary.
so much? 1500? isn't it super slow?
A bit, but it's mostly manageable, maybe 1200 is better
Depends how high and how wide you plan on doing it, but yes it's possible
does throwing stuff far away from my base start bloating the server and can cause issues/lagging?
Just go toss it in the ocean, it'll go away eventually
thanks for the tip!
but... does it?
As long as it's not in range of a base item to prevent it from doing so, it will despawn after a few in game days
uff, that's great then!
Afaik items underwater over 2m depth will despawn even when being inside the base item radius.
You can also get an item from Haldor which will help you turn those items into coal.....
yeah I'm aware, just asking when I can't have one with me on the spot
Heck, even better
can I fit a cart on a Karve?
Never tried with a karve but it's possible with the longship though
should I make wooden stairs to push it through?
You can certainly try
mmh although maybe it's better to spawn it on the boat and leave it there
Mayhaps
Better than cart, you can break cart when it's full of stuff so it creates those boxes that hold the stuff that was in cart, they are weightless so they can be lifted in Karve easier. Although they are weaker so you could sail carefully with the boxes in Karve.
that's genious
Sooo. do enemy NPCs actually try and destroy your spawnpoint if you die near it?
But like I said, they can break easily so careful then. ๐
If that spawnpoint is a bed; they might, as they will destroy everything that's between you and them.
The only thing that's never going to be destroyed is the spawnpoint at the sacrificial stones.
would it make sense to make a solid main base in this little meadows island here? (it should even be outside troll range too)
or should I better look for a place where I have at least 3 biomes at the ready?
That's entirely up to you, island bases are neat. Especially in Plains later.
well I died to a troll which I don't remember ever going near the bed. But then the next thing I know im being spawned back at the sacrificial stones and the spawn point bed was destroyed when I came hiking back.
It's possible the troll destroyed the bed at the same time it killed you if you were too close to it.
It's even possible the troll destroyed it when trying to get to you if you for whatever reason circled around where that bed used to be.
damn, I guess im unlucky.
So there's one game mechanic I don't totally understand. The bed can't be "exposed" and has to have a roof, but then it needs a "fire" next to it. A standing torch doesn't work, so the only thing is a fireplace, but a fireplace has to be touching grass or else it will smoke whatever containment its in. Is there a point in the game where im not sleeping outside?
The fire doesn't have to be right next to your bed, If you place it outside your house on the side that your bed is on it should work fine
You can also get hanging brazier's later that can be put on the ceiling and I think work as a fire
I see ok
but a fireplace has to be touching grass or else it will smoke whatever containment its in
?
What does this mean?
Touching grass has nothing to do with smoking whatever containment it's in.
It needs to touch solid ground or a stone floor to burn.
Can't build campfires on a wooden floor.
If a fire is covered in an area covered by a roof, the smoke it exhausts will cling onto it. If you don't know, you can suffocate the player, its a status effect called "smoke".
As for the containment, you need a certain height for the smoke to get away. You can do that with a chimney, an open spot in the roof or by placing the fire outside the house.
Ok, how did we solve that problem in real life when we invented fire and brought it into our homes?
Hint: ||Chimneys||
well yes, I suppose, but then I suppose I have to break wooden floors just to place it. I don't know, its just weird to me.
the game clearly wants it to be an outdoor fireplace by the looks of it
Prior to stone floor you just have a cutout in your wood floor, yes.
In both cases you just build a chimney so the smoke has somewhere to go.
They game does not clearly want all fires outdoors.
Especially given the second fireplace has to be placed on a floor.
aight, point made
Point of curiosity: did you not grow up in/currently live in a part of the world where we have and use indoor fireplaces?
Reason for question: "Chimney" seems blatantly obvious to me, but I did grow up using a fireplace irl, so the connection was immediate.
Wondering if that is maybe the disconnect of why you didn't consider them as an option?
To their defence, not all games have "fire makes smoke" mechanic so it is not always so obvious.
something I noticed and wonder - can frost caves (marked on my map with FC) only be found on mountain areas that are gray on the world map?
They often are there as they like to spawn on the slopes (no snow on those so they are grey on map) but i have seen few on top of mountains surounded by snow ๐
oh sick, thanks. I've asked too many frost cave questions recently lol
Hey guys, I'm looking for advice on LAN setup. My buddy and I have two PCs, both connected to an offline router (new place, waiting to get Internet). We want to play valheim, but I'm having trouble setting it up. Is there any way to play together with just two machines? I can start dedicated server from steam, but I can't join from my PC or the other one. Ports are open and other LAN games work, but I can't figure valheim out. Anyone have any ideas?
Asked yesterday and didn't get any ideas, still can't figure it out today
I take it you've done all the usual bits? Setting up server's start.bat to use your PC's IP, -port 2457, forwarded 2456-2458, checked firewall settings, etc? Only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is some routers play weird with DHCP because your PCs IP isn't static.
I was under the impression I didn't need to port forward for LAN, but I think I've done everything else correctly. I will look into router settings , thanks for the advice!
All good. I'm not strong on networking but I know when my partner was setting up our home network his primary issue was dealing with router having LAN isolation settings, some issues with wifi security (remedied with cabled connections), and still port forwarding issues with the router heh
Okay, thanks! I'm happy to hear it's possible, I read a reddit post where people were saying it was disabled through an update to the server menu. As long as I know it works, I'll keep on figuring it out
Do serpants always drop only 4 serpent scales?
Sometimes I wonder why I bother with the Wiki.
Because you hope someday someone will reply here and say: "I checked the wiki and it was so nice to have all the info ready for the taking. Great job!" ??
No, I don't do it for the respect (that would be stupid!) It's just to save everyone's time.
I did look at the wiki, it says 8 idk how reliable it is and i am asking here
I only got 4
Well, given that I wrote that line and it's the same answer I'll give you here I hope that's enough. It's 8-10.
and i checked for 5minutes in the spot and there was still only 4
It's very reliable.
Scales sink if you don't get them fast enough.
Which is most likely what happened to you.
And IIRC the sinking of scales is also mentioned at the wiki.
means my friends mustve stolen it
i killed it on a shore
land, until knees deep
Arms spaghetti?
Well, if you mention that the first time you ask a question, it'll make answering it a lot easier for us.
no yall just like to make fun
No,we've both now given you answers to your questions. (and have done for the last week, all 1000 of them).
Do I now?
And I got that told a few minutes after I told someone else why I try to help them.
you complain that you were mislead to my question yet you didn't answer it directly
Huh? I said 8-10. What more do you need?
my favorite part of the wiki is when I start a new playthrough and I can't remember the recipe to craft something and I'm like "wth am I missing!?"
And what does this suggest in your opinion?
that was not your first answer to my question
You said you killed a serpent and got 4 scales.
You didn't tell where you killed it, which means it can be on land or from a boat.
Which in the latter case means there's a probability they have sunk.
Since I didn't know where you killed it, I gave an answer based upon the assumption you were on a boat and thus they'd sank.
If you had told me right away you killed it on land, I wouldn't have made the comment about scales sinking as I would've known they couldn't sink.
Capice?
I give up, I'm just going to mute you. Imagine being that rude to someone trying to help you.
ironic
What is ironic? That you have NO manners and just insult the people trying to help you?
Hah! I had that the other day.
Found out it wasn't an ingredient, but an action I hadn't done. In particular, killing a boss....
fair enough
I always forget to make a spring and grinding wheel which unlocks the crafting station upgrades
"Why I can't build Blast Furnace for Black metal, I have the mats for it!"
checks wiki
"Oh, right. Time to kill Moder first."
In my case it was the mountain feast. Thought it would be great food combined with Serpent Stew and Serpent Meat to kill Moder.
Except...........
it only unlocks after you kill Moder.
Still a good feast to kill her the second time, but for the first time..... I don't think so.
and somehow the magic lightning shotgun takes bloodstones and not iolite... still throws me off
Sea feast gives same amount of HP and stamina as Mountain feast.
I know. But in this case the thrill of unlocking it was also important.
I spend somewhere close to 26 hours exploring mountains before I got onion seeds. Probably less, as I took a detour fighting Brenna and looking for the Bog Witch. But getting that feast was a reward for something I struggled to get so long.
Oh well, I will get a new Ocean feast up, jump to the mountains, kill the winged Mother Lizard and craft the new feast for the Plains.
Which is where the real fun begins as I can snipe off a lot of Fulings.
I hope. ๐
Yeah, I also like Ocean and Mountain feast combo for Plains, plus the best HP option.
I was quite lucky in my Hard world I started some time after Bog Witch patch, as I found her in my 3rd Swamp plus Haldor and Hildir in the same continent. Then I was lucky to find quite many Serpents near my base in few nights.
Feasts and the new meads really have changed the early/mid game for the better!
is the fall damage in this game ridiculous or is that just me? i feel like i'm the ||devergr|| falling from a skyscraper when i'm dropping 2 feet off the side of a hill
No, it's really forgiving. It caps at 100 HP.
not on a misty death run ๐ ๐ญ ๐ญ ๐ญ
I used to get smooth 60fps on lowest settings now it fluctuates between 40-50 is there any change?
Well, it caps at 100 no matter what biome you're in. And by Mistlands you should have FAR more health by then AND a feather cape.
yeah but i'm saying i got cooked and i needed to drop 3 feet and died from a tiny drop lol
You don't even start taking damage below 4 feet.
could've fooled me
if i take damage from falling the same height as my character probably a little taller regardless if it's under 1.0 that's not a forgiving fall damage system
You don't, so the system is working fine.
you do but alright derek
As I said you don't take damage from or below 4m.
And then even then, after 4m it's only 6.25 damage per metre up to a MAXIMUM of 100.
You can always logout just before touching ground and login again to avoid dmg if solo
i guess my cameras zoomed out too far? idk i'm just not feeling the stats like they are, but i also don't know the details of the game along heights and all that so it is what it is but it don't feel like it when youre nakey trying to get your stuff back ๐
that's smart too i'll have to try that sometime, i'm not solo but still a good idea
How can i start a Farm
Create cultivator, cultivate land, plant things with cultivator, harvest food when it's grown.
i am new how can i make a cultivator
Do you have a forge yet?
no
Ah, you're a little way off farming then.
i am Pre First boss
You won't be farming for a while, but there's plenty of food out there.
ok ty
Berries and deer/boar/necks meat is your best bet for now
Whats the best food combo for mages?
Seeker aspic:85 etir. Ygdrasil porridge: 80 etir. Fish&bread: 90 stamina.(Replaceable with omelette or salad for ease of crafting) or misthare supreme: 85 hp
Oh, our first bot of the year, lovely.
anyone able to hop in my server and help me fight Moder?
And you've posted it in #valheim-help because...?
really makes you think doesnt it
I apologize if this is late to say. I didn't know whether or not the game had firespread mechanics yet, (I had only killed eikthyr) and something of such seemed plausible since the entire world is apparently destructible, so I guess I kind of shied away from the idea of making one. On my part, I should have just asked you that instead. Anyway, I thank you for helping me, and I did make a chimney as you suggested.
Next level is understanding the smoke has a timer per particle.
So once you start making large enough buildings you don't even need chimneys. It just collects up in the rafters and despawns before ever having enough to come back down.
Thanks and happy new years. I can officially say that now.
Hey is there a secret mechanism that makes it so every time a player enters a boat the wind must be a headwind? Or does the headwind cycle every โx minutesโ and Iโm always just unlucky ๐
hello @muted hatch thanks for your mod. More World Traders
Unlucky
yea that used to happen a lot when i was playing with a friend that was lagging
Anyone knows how the character backup works in Valheim?
For ex. i teleported, got dced, lost all my inventory
If i restore to a earlier character backup, where i had died
Will i be able to find my tombstone somewhere or is the gear gone?
You could try to do that, but it's easier to just spawn in what you've lost with devcommands and then keep going.
Every time I die, does the no skill drain effect timer reset or is it a set timer for said effect?
Think it's a set timer, tho on 'normal' death penalty there is still skill drain
Right after u die, it tells u top left corner 'skills lowered' (by 1 on 'normal')
Hello all...I recently lost access to my server...(the host shut it down)...and I have sinced started over but have no way to repair my high level equipment at the moment...I was hoping someone with a Black Forge could do me a favor. and invite me to their server so I can repair my weapons and armor....Please
Try asking in #dedicated-server channel, i think you will find more ppl with servers there, I havent advanced that far yet
What launcher should i use for valheim, launching from steam gives me either standart or vulkan version, whats the difference?
Vulkan is a 3D graphics alternative to DirectX, if you aren't sure just pick the regular launcher and you will be fine
As said in Valheim chat, you may have better success in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510.
Also a kind request, don't post the same question in two different channels in a short timeframe.
It's considered as spamming and it's very annoying to see the same thing being answered in two places, thus messing up the channels intention.
can someone suggest me a loot filter mod that dont require the player to tamper or edit the files
Someone in here may know it for you: https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202934289898151966
Any tips how to get back to my gear? I got clapped by a troll and he also broke the Portal. And my boat is there as well...
Create a raft and back-up gear, circle around that spot until you find a good landing spot, land, shoot the troll from a distance and run away.
After that, just circle around until you get to your items and recover as much of them as you can.
Or you try to take the troll out, giving you more time to get your gear back.
make a new boat
If the combat is too hard, you can always exit the world, set the world modifier to an easier combat mode to deal with things, exit the world again and set it back to what you used to play at.
where can i find carrot seeds
In black forest, white flowering plant ๐
Is it correct that if the height difference between 2 spots is too big, you can't really level it? You just either have to lower one spot with your pickaxe, or raise one spot with your Hoe. Is that correct?
Yes
However there is also a limit to how much you can alter the terrain even using those
You mean with the 8 meter difference? I saw that on a clip somewhere
But now i'm just talking about a little bit of leveling
Yep, you can alter the ground up to 8m up or down ๐ for normal leveling you dont have to concern yourself with those
Got it, thanks!
Also, maybe one more stupid question. How do i fill gaps like this. I tried it with the Hoe but it stays a bit of the same
Right click with hoe and select raise ground ๐
Oh, so for small gaps like this i do need to raise it a bit?
You could use a wooden wall pice (1x2m) with adjusted snap points to close it.
Or that ๐
Got it, thanks!
It needs to be under the Hearth (large stone fire)
GMMAS is currently open (Glorious Moose Multiplayer Assistance Services) for a very short while. Need help with a boss? Tombstone recovery? Building advice? I'm your moose.
Try 2 next to each other it should work, tho you could use hearth
You can get away with multiple campfires, but go with @clever juniper's advice.
I never knew that 2 fires would work for that station, interesting, thanks!
Hearth gives better comfort too. If you can make it, campfires are obselete (at least at a base).
Gets you better comfort and more fire range ๐
Hearth is good!
What's the best way to beat abominations?
Sword + buckler is my favourite, or leading them into fire geysir ๐
I'm trying to spawn in a mage staff in a test world but it won't let me pick it up. What am I missing?
Which mage staff?
spawn charred_magestaff_fire
Ok. I'm looking for the staff of embers but I can't find the spawn name
its id is StaffFireball ๐ you can look up items on wiki and they have their ow id on each page ๐
ahh, I was looking at the wiki and looked right over the box. thanks
Hello everyone, im relatively new, and wondering if someone can come to my server, or I to theirs, and get some items? please.
The best place to ask that is in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1024264966712340510
I'm sure you will find lots of likeminded people there.
Also:
There's no need to ask the same question into multiple channels.
It's considered impolite and only makes tracking questions a lot harder to do.
Your welcome! Glad you're enjoying it, lemme know if you have suggestions or feedback
how do you use commands
